This was such a beautiful hotel!! The view of the water is stunning and the sunrise and sunset are jaw dropping! It's right on the water and there's even a restaurant in the middle with great prices! The room was cozy and clean and had a very decent sized bathroom. There are benches near the water and lots of spots to sit and hang out!! I would come back to Ogunquit just to be able to stay here again! I do feel it's also important to note that I was here during off season, so there weren't many people and it was very quiet! I'm not sure how it is during peak season. read more

Very misleading when booking a room last week. What was advertised was a room with ocean view, not correct it's a partial. When checking in get ready for shocker as some rooms are across the street over looking a parking lot at $300/night..we were ripped off and they would not change our room. Furniture in room was so low that sitting at a round table your chin almost rested on it. They even did not provide room service, only if you asked for it. AC unit came on all night long, very noisy , every 10 minutes . Sleep was a massive chore as it blew right on to the bed. TV worked! read more

We stayed one night on the off season and overall the stay was just decent. The prices are high due to the location and being right on the water. Only a few rooms get an ocean view. But the location is great cause you can walk to everything. The rooms are a little dated but the beds were comfortable. They told us they would text us when our room was ready and they never did so we had to go back and ask. They have a small indoor pool and a small outdoor pool as well. I see lots of negative reviews. We had a room on the ocean side second floor so we had a clear view of the water, but we booked this in February for a late August stay. People complained of shared bathroom and having to stay at a location across the street. This is nice if you have the location by the pool. I was able to just sit outside my room with a book and look at the ocean. The grounds are beautiful, the pool area is nice. The hot tubs and fire pits are nice. There is plenty of seating and a large grassy area facing the water that is lovely. The location is terrific and right on marginal way. The room for two is ample. My complaint is that there is no gym but I guess you're at the beach. Staff was nice. Do book early and make sure you get a room ocean side. read more

We had a wonderful time at Anchorage By the Sea! It's right on the water and the scenic "Marginal Way" (that Ogunquit is famous for) is right out front. It's walking distance from the adorable town shops and restaurants and even the beach! We drove to the beach and didn't realize how close it actually was. So it's VERY central! They have an indoor AND outdoor pool with four hot tubs (although only two of the four of them were actually hot, and the other two were the same temp as the adjoining pool). We LOVE hanging out in the pool. They have a sauna as well. It would have been nice if the bathrooms/changing rooms were a little bigger, but they worked for us. I also would have liked it if the drink station near the pool was operating as it would have been awesome! I also wish the pools operated a bit later. I think they close at 9... and I think 10 would be better. They have a restaurant that I only had one breakfast for and wasn't impressed, but we didn't try the other meals since there are so many amazing places in the area. We did get drinks for the restaurant which were very good. In front of the restaurant there are nice grounds with plenty of places to sit and watch the ocean. They even had a couple games, tough the corn hole was very broken and should have been removed/replaced. The rooms were nice enough. Our room was across the street, so next time we visit I would try to get a room closer to the ocean, but we still had a great time. Even being across the street, we could still see a bit of the ocean from our balcony! So yeah... there area things that could have been better... but we had such a good time and didn't want to leave, so I have a hard time giving a place like that less than 5 stars. If I could give no stars I would! We walk into the room and the smell was awful. It smelled like someone had had a dog living in the room. We called management, they sent us a guy who literally sprayed febreze all over the room which became uninhabitable. They agreed to change our room to one that smelled a little better. My kids were running around barefoot in the room for a little while. Then we noticed that their feet became black as if they were walking outside for hours! The carpet is FILTHY!! Like has never been cleaned or changed since the place was built. This is a health hazard and honestly they should get a visit from the health department. Plus we paid 700+ a night which is 5 star territory. Also they did not get the memo that the pandemic is over because they still do not offer daily room service. You have to ask for new towels and they do not clean your room and make your bed daily. Please trust me and do not be tempted into booking this place at all. Go anywhere else! Anywhere! It's awful. Bad - gave us a room across the street (didn't even know that was an option, shared bath (also not told to us or written in description), tv didn't work, shower took forever for hot water, and didn't drain. I've stayed here before and it was always good, but this time was awful. We were supposed to get adjacent rooms, but did not, not even close. We stayed in the "Towers" overlooking a gas heater. The rug was filthy. The building needs repairs and updating. Dinner at the restaurant was just OK. We paid $42 for a very small steak and the salad came with the meal instead of prior to the meal. After complaining, they gave us a credit for the "resort fee" but it never showed up on my credit card ($30). read more

First time staying here in July. Came here for a one night getaway with my husband. Room was great, but my goodness parking is a DISASTER!!! You do NOT have a reserved parking spot. We left to check out York for 1.5 hr, came back and NO spots!!! We drove around for 45 min hoping someone would leave. The front desk told us to park in front of the gazebo where traffic comes and goes! I didn't want to chance our car getting hit, so we parked illegally. If we get towed or ticketed, it'd be on the hotel. I have never been so stressed on a vacation and WILL NOT return here again. Please keep you that in mind when booking here. read more

I agree with most of the previous reviews: the location is amazing, but the staffing and attention to detail is frustrating. Positives: my kids loved it. It was easy to walk to beach and we spent so many hours in the pool. For the most part, we really enjoyed it, too! But again, thats all about the location, views, and pool. Negatives: It is clear it is not family owned, as it doesn't feel like they take pride in the place. Our feet were constantly dark brown, despite recently bathing and wearing shoes outside. The floors in the room must be filthy. There are so few umbrellas (and it was 100 degrees and straight sun) that it's a huge competition to get the shade. The restaurant was understaffed, we couldn't order online, so it took forever. Mostly the staff didn't seem like they knew what they were doing. There were dirty cups all over the pool area (so rude of the guest, for sure, but the place sets the expectations low), the towels would run out, my daughter had an allergic reaction and threw up on the bed and I called at 9 am -- had to call back at 5 because we still didn't have new bedding. This might all sound petty, but it's all the thoughtful things that were missing. They have lawn games that were broken, a water and coffee station that was empty, and a long wait time for most things. Feels like they are just relying on the location to do it all for them. Room and property were clean and nice. The front desk staff seemed efficient. The outside pool area was nice, but very crowded for our visit. We wanted lunch by the pool, but not enough staff to handle the crowd. We got take-out nearby....felt like they were missing a big opportunity by not staffing up the pool area. Additionally, plan to get to the pool at open to ensure you get a chair. We just recently stayed for 2 nights for my best friends birthday. We had the best experience in the upstairs bar area, 360. Our bartender Sherri was great. Not only does she make the best rum punch in Maine, she is friendly, outgoing and provides great service. Great spot, great view, great staff! Paid over 500 a night a room, our room was not ready on time, couldn't enter until 4:45, room was dirty, seems like a previous guest wiped their makeup off with the shower curtain and it wasn't removed during the room turnover. There is really minimal maintenance here. On the lawn there are multiple umbrellas in the seating area that have fallen and that have just been upside down for a couple of days. Stayed here for 3 nights for a family reunion. My family does it every year and over the last few years it has slowly declined in service, cleanliness, and quality. This is probably the last time I stay at the hotel, unless there are big changes. First off, prices per night are steep around $500 for a room that was across the street from the ocean. The building used to be locked and needed a key to gain entry, but it was unlocked every time I went into the building day time and night time. Trash cans around the property are constantly overflowing with take out containers and pizza boxes. The rooms are very outdated with old amenities. TVs are easily from the 2000s that use old cable. For $500 a night per room, I think they could upgrade TVs with streaming capability. The coffee uses cheap K-cups with powder creamer that I would expect in a motel 6. They do have real cup mugs which is nice. We had a nice balcony with an ocean view, but sitting in the chairs that are provided on the balcony are so low that you're staring at the railing. In order to see the ocean I had to switch the inside chairs. The balcony is so dirty and covered in algae it looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The screen door also fell off multiple times trying to open it. We called for wine glasses on two different nights and it took 45mins to be brought to the room. Staff seem very annoyed that we were bothering asking for the glasses. The pool area has signs everywhere saying it closes at 9pm and getting back from dinner was usually late, so we didn't bother with the pool until one night we strolled by at 850pm thinking it was closing in 10mins, but stupidly we trusted the multiple signs. Around 930pm the pool was still filled with people, so we asked the staff and they said pool closes at 10pm. I was infuriated due to the signs being incorrect and my family and I could have sent more time at the pool, but we didn't know the signs weren't up to date. We sat at the pool until it actually closed and there was multiple teenagers running around jumping off of the waterfall into the pool telling people they didn't care if they got kicked out cause they weren't staying there. The employee at the pool had his headphones in so who knows if he was even listening, but he saw these teens jumping off the waterfall into the pool and didn't stop them at all. One family with small children left due to the disruptive teens. This hotel is not what it used to be at all and it's very sad to see. read more

The location and amenities (pool, bar, right off The Marginal Way.) Housekeeping and staff were excellent. That said, the photos are a LOT nicer than reality. We stayed in Lightship, and for the price, the room had a weird smell, it wasn't nearly as nice as photos, and the AC unit beeped EVERY TIME it clicked on. I didn't have a decent night sleep in THREE DAYS. That is NOT an $800-a-night hotel, with no view, no matter how peak the time period. That is a deal-breaker for me. Also, parking was a problem. I have been coming to this place since I was little with my parents and now come with my fiance every year for the 4th of July. Suzette who works at the front desk has been here for many years. I had to do a nice review for her. I cannot say enough good words/things about her. She is the best! Very nice and welcoming always has a smile on her face and happy to see you. She goes above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of and have a comfortable and nice stay. Her hospitality and kindness stand out and make her a real genuine gem. We have been going to Ogunquit for years. We have stayed many times at the Anchorage and loved it. This year was a different story. The setting is beautiful; however this hotel is mediocre at best. The amenities were not where they should be at the price we paid. The rooms were not clean, hair in drain, carpets needed to be replaced, walls with patches that need a good paint job. Towels provided were insufficent and only one roll of toilet pa per provided for a 5 day stay. The pool area was a joke, no chairs to be had, and the bathrooms were a complete mess, like a college frat house. Staff was extremely unfriendly. Never thought I'd say this but I'm giving this place a big thumbs down. Spend your money elsewhere! read more

I expected this to be the hotel I loved especially the location which is the best. They have security making sure no one parks there. It's a beautiful location don't get me wrong from the pool to the views to the fact you can just walk the marginal way which is probably my favorite part. The surf 360 is beautiful being a circle shaped. However it's lacking the room is small and I know people don't spend a lot of time in there but the fact two people can't walk by at the same time just is weird. The pools are cold and I don't like the two whirlpools. I wish one of the hot tubs were inside just so I can be in there while my kids play in the inside pool. I know most people love this and I'm a one off. But after being charged 75 dollars for a breakfast we didn't get and having to basically argue about it. I wouldn't be back unless it's summer time. read more

This past weekend my room had a door that needed to be slammed to shut, a toilet handle SO hard to push I was scared I was breaking it, no screens in windows and a musty smell like they sprayed something to cover up an odor. My elderly father was assaulted by the daytime bar manager, Heidi. She pushed him out of the way and he stumbled twisting his surgically repaired knee. Stephanie the head restaurant manager contacted me and told me she would talk to Heidi, I suspect nothing will done and she will continue her abusive manner. My parents were very upset and it completely ruined our break. It made everyone in my family uncomfortable knowing that this person was on the grounds and she had gotten away with common assault. My father wanted to call the police but was persuaded not to. I have since contacted my lawyer and they are in the process of securing the video tape of the bar that afternoon to see if a criminal case should be investigated by Ogunquit police or if we should persue a civil case against Heidi Rude staff, ineffectual leadership. Avoid this place, there are many other places to stay in Ogunquit. read more

This place is absolutely gorgeous and MOST of the staff are unbelievably helpful and accommodating. However, DO NOT stay in room 603! No bathroom in the room (had to use a room key across the hall to get into it), no mirrors, no hairdryer, no ice, no amenities that are expected when staying at an ocean resort for a lot of $$. We requested a room change and were gaslighted by the manager (Nicole) about our complaints. Fortunately, the other employees at the front desk were amazing and helped us transition to a far better room for our next night. We love ogunqiut and look forward to coming back...but perhaps the management needs some improvement! read more

The three of us were very pleased with this stay. We booked a few months in advance. We did have some issues with the original employee here who we were trying to book a room with over the phone. He was pretty bad and did not know the rules on the cancellation policy. I won't go into the details of all the wrong info. he gave us, but he was really not someone that should be in that position. We were pretty turned off and tried again a few days later, and this time had an employee who was the complete opposite of the first person. He was great and answered all our questions in detail....and he knew the Hotels policies. We booked for 3 days in late June 2024. They only had rooms available in the tower, which is across the street from the main building. When we arrived, the grounds were very well maintained. Our room was big enough for the 3 of us and included a balcony. I thought being on the 2nd floor, it would be a little loud above us, but not at all. These rooms were very soundproof. The water pressure in the very clean bathroom was a real treat. Even though our room was across the street, we still had access to all the amenities at the main part of the property and our pricing was less. The pool area was great, the grounds were very well taken care of. I tip my hat to the landscapers. The grassy area overlooking the water had great views, plenty of lounge chairs and was on the quiet side the times we hung out there. This Hotel is directly on marginal way trail that was great for early morning walks that came out to a little over 2 miles. Downtown was only a 5-minute walk away with tons of shops, coffee places, and restaurants. (See my other reviews). We really enjoyed our stay here at the Anchorage and Ogunquit itself. Some of the cons are: * Please, please, please get more umbrellas for the lounge chairs. They need to add at least 10 to 15 more umbrellas. People were scrambling for a chair with an umbrella. Many of us don't want a blaring sun on us all day. * Too many kids. Could have been much worse, but if you are coming here and want some quiet by the pool being around mostly adults.....this ain't the place. I've seen much worse, and this was tolerable but when you have 3 hot tubs and there are kids in all of them with no one enforcing the rules, that's a turn off. * The restaurant on site seemed to be a bit of a train wreck. Very understaffed. The food looked good, but after waiting 10 minutes for someone to seat us, we decided to go downtown. Another couple said that the service at this restaurant was very slow and took forever to get their food. Also, very expensive. If I'm paying those prices, I want top notch service. We would definitely stay here again and definitely in the towers for the lower pricing. read more

The hotel is in a great location, but pricey for the quality of it. We booked three different rooms for our family and they were all outdated and dirty and I'm 99% sure one of the bed sheets weren't changed. My kids feet were black from walking around the room. The indoor pool and whirl pool were incredibly disgusting , the outside one was a little less gross. Staff was decently friendly and half the food at the restaurant was ok, half was kind of gross. The outside grounds were decently landscaped. TV/remote outdated, even though I'm sure, most people aren't going there to watch TV but it's always nice to have. Overall would never stay there again. Was so disappointed as I've known other people who have stayed here and liked it. After talking to a couple other people, the consensus seems that people like it for the location, but not for the place. Next time I'll be looking for both! read more

We booked this because of the on site pool and proximity to downtown. The property is beautiful but unfortunately the rooms are TINY. They jammed furniture into rooms that does not quite fit, leaving hardly any space to move around or keep luggage. We were 2 adults/2 kids and were on top of each other the entire time, it was intolerable to be in the room. The bathroom was also microscopic, very little space/shelving to put toiletries, a separate room for the shower - which barely had enough room to close the door. When I booked the room, the map showed our room having an ocean view - which we did not receive - the booking options are very deceiving. They need to be very clear about which room you are choosing and the amenities inside. I also really dislike this trend of no room tidying without request, especially when we are staying at the beach and the floors get sandy and have daily wet towels. We did ask for service and received it after a confusing conversation with the housekeeper. The pool kept running out of towels. For the high price we paid, I expected more space. I would not choose to stay here again. I am a 14 year hospitality veteran with hotels/resorts, so my expectations are realistic. read more

The location - if you stay on the ocean-side of the property - cannot be beat. Wonderful views, access to the Marginal Way walk, and easy to walk to restaurants and shops. On-site rooms that are across the street are certainly not as convenient and have little or no ocean view. Those rooms are highly, highly over-priced, especially factoring in the dated rooms, paper-thin walls, lack of luggage racks or anywhere but the floor to put your suitcase. Robes and slippers is like putting lipstick on a pig - would rather see rooms remodeled or brought up-to-date. Front desk clerk could not explain why invoice was more than what bookings.com had confirmed, putting all the blame on booking through a third party and looking down her nose at us because we didn't book directly with the hotel - which I explained we did not do because it is more expensive and there is a punitive cancellation policy. Took no accountability and stated that guests booking through bookings.com could NOT have a printed invoice from the hotel. What? I guess so the hotel doesn't have to explain the extra charges? Exasperating. We also had terrible and slow service at the on-site restaurant. read more

I said what if it were a death in the family. No, you don't get ur deposit back. Has to be 14 days. Not very nice people to deal with. If u book there, go thru a booking site. We called directly. My husband and I have wanted to stay here for some time. I have to say we were very disappointed. We stayed in an Ocean view room and it was not worth what we paid. $400 for one night for a dated room that was also handicap accessible which we did not request. The wall paper was peeling of the wall in the bathroom and we could also heart everything that was going on in the room next to us. The front desk was mobbed during check in and we were not able to get into our room until after 4:30. The staff was not friendly at all during checkout and didn't even ask how our stay was.
