I don't get mani/pedicures very often; I think I've only had a half a dozen in all my many years, so I don't have a lot to compare this one to. Ever since the news a few months ago about how badly some technicians are treated, I've been hesitant to have my nails done, but my sister wanted to go & my nails were pretty much a mess, so I figured why not. We arrived at about 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon & didn't have to wait at all. However, a short while later, that would've been quite a different story; by the time we left, their wait was an hour and a half! The store seemed clean, and the technicians seemed happy -- although, it is always a little disconcerting when they're chatting with each other in a language I don't understand. But, since my sister was there, we just carried on our own conversation. They were cognizant of the foot bath water temperature -- mine was a little too hot for me, so the technician cooled it down. And, unlike in the past, when she was cleaning my nails and cutting them, she took care to be gentle. It hurt a little (I tend to get ingrown nails on my big toe), but it wasn't awful, and it was nice knowing that she was straightening them out. The warm towels on my legs was a nice touch, although I'd appreciate it more in the winter than on an 87* day. She also humored me by painting my nails in 2 alternating colors as I requested. The only thing I had any trouble with was figuring out how the massage chair worked; it was fine at first, but when it stopped, I had trouble resetting it. She did push a button & make it go back to the right position for me, though. She did my fingernails well, too. She got them closer to the same height and filed them square, which I hadn't had before -- and I like it! I'm not sure how often I'll get my nails done, but when/if I decide to do it again, I'd definitely come back here. And $35 for a mani/pedi definitely seems reasonable. read more

I found colorful nails while searching yelp for nail places that opened early. I called right around 9, and Kim was able to take me for a fill in the next 5 minutes. The nail salon was clean and Kim did a great job on my nails. I get a fill and I am pretty picky about liking my nails looking short and natural. Kim kept checking in with me to make sure my nails were short enough and didn't have an issue filing them down more if I asked. I've been coming regularly for a few months now and now Kim doesn't even have to ask and know exactly how I like my nails. I've also had Shayna paint my nails and she also does a good job. read more

Been a frequent customer here for many years and Kim called and yelled at me claiming I missed multiple appointments (not true). I've heard that she has done this to many people before so her behavior doesn't surprise me. Very sad because Lee is a great tech. However, it's not worth supporting a business owner who is disrespectful to customers. There is a way to approach a situation and she handled it like a child. Very disappointing. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday after my old nail tech basically destroyed my nails. I walked in and was a little bit early for my appointment but they accommodated me right away and made me feel comfortable. I like my nails really long and one of my nails was completely split down the middle. My nail tech (Lee) was very attentive to my damaged nails and made sure I was comfortable the whole way through. She added tips to my nails so I could keep the length and perfected her application of the dipping powder, and got my shape perfect! She was extremely clean while she was working and I also noticed the salon was very clean in general. I think my search for a great salon is finished. I've had great experiences here! I regularly get my gel nails with regular polish done bi-weekly. I also get regular pedicures. Every time I've been to this salon, with the exception of one time, I have been more than satisfied. There are only three people working here that are able to do gel or acrylic nails. Yet another nail salon on Orchard Lake Rd. But this one is now on my short list of go-to nail places. What can I say? They got me with their check-in coupon on Yelp. I needed a shellac mani before I left on a mini-vacation, so I made a same day appointment. There were about four people working. It was the owner who did my mani. From the looks of it, it's seems like they have some pretty loyal customers. The owner was super nice and personable. He also did a meticulous job to make sure my nails looked great with the sheer color I picked out. He even offered a free fix if they started peeling within the two week mark, something I was very impressed with (I've never heard of any other place which offers this). Pricing is on par with other nail salons. They also offer a huge selection of shellac colors in various brands, along with a fresh selection of regular polishes. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this place and I will definitely put it into my rotation of nail places. read more

I have been there about every two weeks for the last year or so and have never had a single problem. In fact, I have gone there on a number of occasions to have acrylic nails removed or polish removed/changed and I have not even been charged! I usually come during the week at lunch time but if they are busy, I rarely have to wait longer than 5 to 10 minutes. Sometimes I call and, if they are busy, I make and appointment for a few minutes later and i am seated immediately when I arrive. Do not judge them based on the bad review with pictures that was posted recently. The nails are so grown out - its easily been 2 weeks since her nails were done! when I first walked in I was greeted and seated right away to get a shellac manicure... The place is small, and it was packed with people getting there nails done for the holiday. they couldn't get my original shellac off so they drilled at it and it finally came off.. but before that I was moved 3 times throughout my entire nail experience. from one station to the next and back to that station and then put at a different station. very annoying. The nail tech that was working on me kept getting ordered to do other things while she was suppose to be giving me an manicure. The manicure was poorily done. and my shellac lasted about 3 days before my nails started breaking. In total I have 3 nails that have broke since I went and got a shellac manicure at this place. If I wanted my nails to break I would have just paid for a regular manicure. I will never go back to colorful nails. pretty horrible nail experience to say the least. The funny thing is they have advertising on their mirror about how they are on yelp and facebook.... which is why I came here because of a 5$ off promotion.. for what I got.. This place is certainly above average. It is clean and has a great polish color selection. I was greeted quickly and told to pick out a color for my mani-pedi. The nail tech introduced herself and I was sat immediately. She demeanor was chilly. She barely said two words while doing my pedicure and did not smile or make eye contact at all. I don't know about you but when you are receiving service, I appreciate friendly people. Her nail techniques were great. What she lacked in personality, she made up for in the treatment. I was relieved when she warned up during the manicure! My nails were pretty and I saved $5 for checking in on Yelp during my first visit. Last week, I was in Detroit for a wedding and found this place via Yelp. I called from another nail salon that had a 30 minute wait and they told me they could take me so we drove over. The place was nice and clean and had a large selection of gel and regular nail polishes. I did a gel mani and spa pedicure. My nail tech was very thorough and took her time. I took off one star for a few reasons...they don't take American Express. There was a guy sitting next to me (getting a pedicure) snoring very loudly but no one tried to wake him up. Definitely made the experience anything but peaceful. Lastly after 4 days, one of my nails chipped and since the gel didn't start all the way at the bottom, they look like I've have them for 3 weeks instead of just one. read more

One time I went and Brian had an attitude and was kind of aggressive while polishing if I didn't know which way he wanted me to turn my hand as he polished. I went back and avoided Brian as he was kind of rude before. Most recently, I arrived and they told me it would be an hour and asked for me to come back tomorrow, I said a specific time and was told it would be put in the calendar. I called before arriving at the shop and they told me it was not in the calendar and that I couldn't come (even though it was scheduled and before closing) due to their only being one person there. I did a google search to get my nails done with my mom, and colorful nails was a perfect location. I got a gel set filled, and my mom got a manicure. Both services were above and beyond the hundreds of times I've ever gotten my nails done! I had Thuy (I think that's how you spell his name?) and he was very meticulous and paid extra attention to detail-- I have to say the shape, polish, EVERYTHING looks textbook perfect. The facilities are clean, modern, and welcoming. Everybody was very nice! Even though I live in Royal Oak, I will be going here from now on! Do yourself a favor and try it out..! read more

Honestly the best pedicure of my life, holy cow. Don't go here for your first pedicure because they set the bar so high anywhere else will suck. Michael took his time, amazing foot / calf massage, hot towels wrapped around my calves, used the cheese grater looking thing and a scrub brush (which a lot of places charge extra for and rush through it) on the bottom of my feet - the place is old but they have a great Essie selection and the massage chairs. read more

I had the worst experience EVER here. Bryan (Brian?) did my acrylic nails fill me. From the minute I said hi I felt something was wrong. He was extremely rude, uncaring, and dismissive of everything I had to say. I'd like to think of myself as a kind person, so I know I wasn't being rude in any way. He was drilling into my cuticles to the point I could feel multiple cuts happening and I kept flinching back in pain, visibly hurt. He kept pulling my hand back to him and grunting as if I'm bothering him. I eventually decided to speak up and said it's really hurting and would like for him to be a little more gentle. He didn't say anything, just kept drilling. A couple times I would be too slow for his liking to move my hand so he can drill to the core my next finger, and he would yank my finger. When it was time to pay, he charged me 3 dollars more than usual. At this point I just wanted to leave but I paid and waited for him to paint over the acrylics. He was doing a horrible job and yanking me around and grunting and I had to ask him if he's okay. He just looked at me and continued hurting me. He then proceeded to turn the light off at the station and leave without fixing it or putting a top coat on. I just sat there in shock and didn't know if he was coming back or not. He saw I didn't get up so came back and started slabbing on the top coat and I was like "okay what's going on why are you being so rude. Can someone else do this?" He slammed the bottle on the table and smirked and left. Another employee was super kind and he came and fixed my nails. He was apologetic and I knew it wasn't his fault so I didn't say anything to him. I do plan on calling the owner and if my fingers develop an infection or continue to burn, I'm taking them to court. read more
