Arik Young, our tour guide, made the tour interesting. He told us stories and made multiple reference related jokes. I would definitely recommend doing the regular cave tour. There are many stairs and it is dark in most spots but he warns and points out the spots to be cautious of. This is definitely a to do when coming to Arizona.

Should you have any familiarity with the Disneyland ride The Jungle Cruise, and enjoy the humor present in those employees, you will love the Colossal Cave tour guides. Both times I have done the classic cave tour, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself because of my entertaining guides. It's made me want to come back for the other tours available, which sell out very quickly. Don't be concerned about ability to complete the classic tour, there are no restraints on physical abilities to be able to walk through. Make sure to hydrate plenty before, as this is something that can affect your experience exponentially. After you're done, make sure to get the prickly pear lemonade at the little cafe and check out the gift shop. Visit Colossal Cave for 70 degree year-round weather in Arizona and because Emilio has long luscious locks (iykyk)!

The tour guides truly love their work and are so informative of the caves history! The prickly pear lemonade is delicious!

By far the top of the list as far as must do's in Tucson !!! Fabulous experience. I will be back for the other tours for sure . There's a great hiking trail you can access from here after cave tour that was beautiful. Enjoyed every second here .

Colossal Cave offers wonderful guided cave tours which takes about 45 minutes, I believe 300 steps throughout, a fairly mild elevation on a stone paved, well lite path. Enjoy historical tales mixed with geology lessons. The cute snack bar offers a variety of snacks, hot dogs, pizza, and French fries... Arizona Teas and other goodies & drinks. Appreciate the well cleaned bathrooms. The views from the cave entrance are spectacular views and where you'll find a well furnished gift shop with something for everyone. Fun & educating for all ages. Highly recommend.

I came to Arizona with my siblings for the first time,This tour was awesome for our last day here! :( The way up there os super easy and check in is in the gift shop. Super easy cave adventure but there are some other cool ones to do that are more adventurous! Our tour guide Eric was cool, he is well educated with facts and has good jokes! Eric had to fight off a giant man eating tarantula that caught a child and spun in a web! The child survived because Eric was brave and threw the spider down a cave hole, IF YOURE SCARED OF SPIDERS ERIC HAS YOUR BACK NO NEED TO WORRY AT ALL!!! 10/10 would recommend

4/8/2026 (noon tour with Eric). Our group was among only six groups ever to see the silverback gorilla at the lowest level, near the open shaft. I highly recommend keeping your iPhone camera on the lowest light setting possible and making sure you are at the front of the tour. RIP Kyle.

The cave tour itself is very tame but they do have other tours for anyone who likes to explore more adventurous areas of the cave, that involves more physical activity than walking and ducking out of ragged formations. No issues for anyone who is vertically challenged. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. The site has a gift shop, it's where you check-in for the tour. You can buy tickets online and veterans have a discount, just show them your military ID card when checking in. They have ample parking as well just be cautious when entering since the road tends to narrow down as you make your way to the parking area. The cave is warm, so I suggest taking the tour during fall or winter time. Lastly, remember to tip your tour guide either with cash or through their QR codes conveniently by the entrance of the cave.

Ask the Community - Colossal Cave Mountain Park

I'm 6' 5" and a big guy , will that create any issues for me in the caves?

I'm 5'10" and had to duck in a few places but I would call and ask for a more definite answer.

What time of day is best to take the tour when it is hot?

    Morning

How much do the flashlights cost?

You do not need to purchase any equipment for the tour, at least for the classic tour. You can buy souvenir ones in the gift shop for around $10 dollars though.

    Is this handicap accessible?

Not at all. Once you get inside the cave it's all steps/stairs and narrow corridors.

My daughter and I did the ladder tour which is better than the walking tour because you go up ladders and wear helmets.

When you realize it is surrounded by half a…read moremillion dollar homes, you also understand that they only put the dog park here as a selling feature of the developer. This is very popular in Texas except they have very nice parks in the new developments with trees and grass and all kinds of other stuff that dogs hate. Here are the kept all that stuff out of the park and basically they have ground that feels like concrete but looks like dirt and they've thrown some rocks down on it because we know how dogs love stepping on rocks. There is no shade in the dog park, there is no water in the dog park, there is no trash can in the dog park, there are no poop bags in the dog park except one someone has kindly tied on to the fence. They have a fire hydrant and a plastic tube for the dogs to go through and something for them to jump through. Now outside the dog park they have a nice shaded structure with a nice water fountain and a trash can? Which means you have to leave the dog park to go throw the poop away? So anyway after a little over 2,000 dog park visits all across the country, this was a bit of a disappointment for me and young lady

We stopped first at the visitors' center. We had a park pass, but otherwise here was where we'd have paid our fee. We checked in with the help desk to ask about short hikes. I admire the rangers for probably answering the same question a hundred times a day, 5 days a week. There is a loop road within a mile or two of the VC. It is unpaved, but it has 2 nice short hikes along the way. However, you should note: while 80% of the loop is 2-way traffic, the other 20% is NOT! Hence, unless you want to do more than a single pass around the loop, you should enter at the end nearest the VC and proceed CCW around the loop to the other end. We did 2 hikes here. The Signal Hill trail is on the side of the loop furthest from the VC. The Valley View trail is on the leg closer to the VC (but after the point where the road becomes 1-way). The Signal Hill trail is short. It descends from the parking lot down to a wash and then up around a hill. At the base you can see some rocks displaying petroglyphs. When you get to the top, you are quite close to several rocks with large carvings (spiral circles, etc.). There was adequate parking divided into a lower and upper lot. It may get crowded at other times, but when we visited (early) there were spots available. The Valley View trail is a bit longer but is mostly level. It winds through cactuses for a while until it ends at a point which overlooks the land to the west. You get a huge vista from this point, though on the day we went there was a lot of dust in the air which cut down on the view. Parking here was limited, but people just parked along the (1-way) road after the lot filled up. That could add a bit of extra hiking. Neither of these hikes is that strenuous. We spent a bit over 2 hours here, but it would have been a bit shorter if we'd started the loop at the correct end.
