I love this dog park. It is separated by dog size and of course the big dog side is larger. When there are no huge dogs over there, I'll take my medium sized dogs there. There is a nice pathway all the way around that I love to walk while my dogs play. There is also plenty of shade. The small dog side does not have the space for a walkway, but has plenty of seating for hanging out with your dogs. There are water fountains for humans and dogs on both sides and rakes and shovels to use as pooper scoopers. Pretty much everyone that goes there are friendly and attentive of their dogs. The parks are poop free most of the time, but sometimes there is a missed pile. The fencing is pretty secure, but very small dogs can get under the fence between the big and small dog areas. Just keep an eye on your wee pups. Parking is very close and there are plenty of spaces. There is also a playground nearby if you have children old enough to play on their own. Another cool thing is that Ivan was a Tucson PD Canine and this dog park is a memorial to him. read more

This dog park is nestled in the back of Purple Heart Park. You can park at Purple Heart and meander through or you can park right outside the dog park. The park has a large covered seating area as well as three benches without shade throughout. The park is dirt with some needleless desert plants around the edges. A paved sidewalk lines the perimeter for easy walking. There are the standard dog poo disposal cans with rakes/shovels available. I've always found this park to be clean, owners are pretty good about picking up after their dogs and the county staff empty the cans fairly regularly. Ivan's spot is divided into a large dog and small dog section. Some large/small dogs will still run along the fence in-between the two parks with each other and its adorable. Humans who frequent this spot seem to be friendly and overall keep a good eye on their pups, we've yet to encounter any horrible pups or humans. My dog is much older and sometimes gets a little trampled at busy dog parks with aggressive dogs, but here she can meander along the edges easily without getting caught in the mix of larger, more energetic dogs. read more

Great dog park but even better people. I've not meet too many poorly behaved dogs, or if there is an anxious one then the owners are usually attentive and accountable. The pet owners here are amazing. I often see them sweeping the side walks and leveling any loose gravel. Generally no more than 10 dogs so it's usually a small to medium crowd. They also provide tennis balls, poop scoopers and poop bags. Separate play areas for small vs large dogs. read more

My kids and I love this park. There are plenty of places to walk on trails, go to the dog park, play at the splash pad, swim at the pool or run around on the playground. Pretty safe for the most part. I like this park and have been coming for years. It could use a nice dog park but it's nice for a good jog.

In really like this park- it is a memorial to a K9 unit that got killed in the line of duty- take a second and read the placard outside on your way in. The people who come here all seem to be really responsible dog owners- any signs of aggression are immediately taken care of and everyone is happy to pet and make friends with each other's dogs. The grounds are really well kept- there is a little path that runs through the park for people to walk on and there is a good amount of landscaping with trees, rocks, little hills and tall grass for the dogs to play in. There was also an abundance of balls and Frisbees for use, which is nice. There are people and dog fountains as well as a large covered seating area. The park has separate areas for both small and large dogs. A few people brought their small dogs into the large dog space- but they first asked every single person if it was alright. I think there is a lot of good vibes in this park and I'm happy that it's located close to my home. read more

My four-year-old and I were watching a baseball game. He had diarrhea. We charged past the port-a-potties and made it to the "real" bathroom just in the nick of time. We survived to tell the tale. Fill in the details...it's as gruesome as it sounds. The two stars is not for the park - it's nice enough - it's for the savages who couldn't be bothered to properly dispose of their used toilet paper. Side note - I used to make fun of those women that put a double layer of toilet paper over the seat, and then proceed to hover over it to do their business. Well, the joke's on me because I'll bet none of them have ever walked away with a piece of gum stuck to their cheek. read more

I love this dog park, mostly because of the community it's in. It's on the smaller side, but is new and definitely well-kept. It's pretty dead in the middle of the day, but starts picking up around 4 and usually has a good amount of visitors by 5-7. I've only been once in the mornings, but have seen a bunch of cars parked there at 6-8. The park is open until 10 and has solar lighting so (especially in the summer) later at night is a great time to go. There is no grass here which is kinda a bummer, but the small gravel they chose for the substrate here is still pretty easy on dog paws. For the dogs that love to run, they do sometimes go sliding a bit when they have to stop quickly. I love that they have provided a few small shade trees and lots of fun bushes to go explore in to make it a better experience for the dogs. For the owners there's a nice shaded seating area at the end of the park where you can rest and still keep an eye on the pups. The best part is most/all the people and their dogs I've met here have been great. Everyone is super-friendly and keeps and eye out for each others animals. There have been a couple times friendly play has gone a bit too far, but there is always someone to step in before it gets too bad. Plus, as this is the only true dog park in the area, most everyone takes extra care to make sure the park stays nice, donating rakes, shovels and brooms and making sure all the area gets cared for. read more

This review is for their dog park: This must be the nicest dog park in Tucson. No their isn't grass but the landscaping is beautiful. There are plenty of bushes and trees for my pups to run around and sniff. They have a large and small dog off-leash section. This place has never been too crowded, which is good and bad at the same time. It is nice to have this beautiful space to yourself, but you want your pups to play with other pups.... So come on people! If you live in Rita Ranch and have dogs, definitely check this park out! I have been to Udall and to Reid dog parks, and comparatively this place is beautiful. There is gravel and not just straight dirt on the ground. My dogs don't leave quite as dirty as they do from the other parks. There are plenty of bags to pick up after your pup. It has a nice concrete path in the large dog park which I used to get a quick run in, while my dogs got their run on. This park is great to hang out in, especially with the beautiful weather. This is a wonderful area to play, sit, run, jump and even worship. Sometimes, my old church has a "Spring Fling" service at this park. It's large enough so while we're doing our thing with the band and the jumping castles other park goers while welcomed are not overcome by the noise. By that I mean they can hear it us but it's not like we got the bass cranked up. But on this day, it wasn't spring like at all. We drove the mile to the park just in case the clouds decided not to just look cold but also let loose some rain. We had the park to our selves except for a few other brave souls or kids/dogs who don't understand bad weather. A great time was had by all and we got some much needed exercise. read more

I'd imagine that any non-native of Tucson would get a bit petrified of possibly being hit over the head with a shovel and getting buried somewhere in the desert if someone was lugging them all the way out to Rita Ranch. It's an off-shoot of Tucson that sits distant from essentially any other vicinage in Tucson. Over my 14-year span of residency in Tucson, I have discovered there really isn't another neighborhood quite like this one. There isn't an abundance of activities to partake in. In many ways, it comes off as it's own civic that caters to the needs of its residents. But if you're raising a family and are looking for peace and quiet while still adept to having restaurants to eat at, grocery stores for shopping and accommodations for children, this neighborhood is for you. That leads me to Purple Heart Park. This is a tract that boasts a skate park, which even the most ardent skater would absolutely fawn over. I'm not a skater and, as I approach my 32nd birthday, I have surpassed the appropriate age for a skateboarding apprenticeship. Yet, when I drive past it, I have to resist the urge to pull off to the side of the road, knock a kid off his (or her) chariot on skates and attempt to complete the million-point combinations I frequently consummated in the old electronic diversions inspired and approved by Tony Hawk. What prevents me from accomplishing such a feat are the impending assault and battery charges (likely against a minor) that would ensue shortly thereafter. Additionally, PHP (I just dubbed it that, so I own the rights now in case you try to steal it) has a vast collection of sporting enclosures. If you like soccer and baseball, then they have you covered. The community pool is a nice escape from the blistering heat the sun provides to the Old Pueblo. The "lifeguards" are nothing more than a group of teenagers that like to fornicate in the outdoor showers (clothes are still on at least) despite the pool being littered with children, but that's really the only drawback. It's a clean pool in the middle of a grand park. My lone complaint regarding Purple Heart Park is that lack of a single basketball hoop. It's such an expansive nugget of land that it's rather disappointing to not have a quasi-dwelling for pick-up basketball enthusiasts. Aside from that, however, this is a fantastic park that I will cruise over to as long as I reside in Rita Ranch. read more

Lots of sports practice for kids and families playing outdoors. This is a meeting location for A.A. & N.A. Locate meeting times on the A.A. & N.A. websites. People here are great! I absolutely love this dog park! Granted, I've only been to like 3 dog parks in my whole life... but this one is pretty great! The dogs and doggie owners that come here are courteous and respectful. It is a very clean area with shaded seating and water fountains for your pup. There are lots of toys left around to play fetch with your dog too! I love this dog park! I have been searching for an awesome dog park in and around the Tucson area and this easily steals the spot as the best. Dog owners are courteous, pick up after their pets, and bring friendly, (licensed) dogs to the park. There is small gravel so I don't have to worry about my dog running around in the dirt or mud. It is paved, has cute bone shaped benches, and shade for hotter days. Large and small dogs are separated and there are spacious areas for both. Each side has it's own drinking fountain and pet owners are kind enough to bring their bags from home for waste disposal. There were some toys left in the park as well. A good place to bring your dogs if you're concerned about their well being in other parks around the Tucson area. Will definitely be coming back again. read more

Great place to take your dog and have it run around. Usually early morning and early evening are the best times to take your dog if you want it to socialize with other. The park is divided into 2 parts - Small dogs and Large dogs. The large dog area has a nice walking path around the park. There are plenty of places for you to have shade while you sit, or you can go out and play with your dog by throwing one of the many balls. There is a fountain for you and one for your dog. There a many bowls around for you to fill up if your dog does not want to drink out of the fountain. read more

Purple Heart Park is a great park for almost everything. It has all the sports amenities, dog parks, garbage cans for throwing trash out, an abundance of benches, lights for night time walking, and beautiful walking trails for my wonderful dog, Sadie, and myself. I just came home from our 2nd night time walk and we thoroughly enjoyed the plethora of little leaguers and families. Needless to say, Sadie got all the attention as usual. The park is clean and very safe for after work walks. This is important for me since Rita Ranch doesn't have street lights in the enclaves of its developments. The park is open until 10:30pm and is well attended by Rita Ranchers. read more

The city just opened a new off-leash area at Purple Heart Park at the end of May, and it's absolutely beautiful! There's a large packed-dirt surface (much better than the pea gravel at 22nd and Kolb) with a circular walking path, lots of boulders and benches to sit on-- even a few benches shaped like giant bones!-- and a doggy fountain. You can really tell that they put a lot of love into the planning and upkeep, and the park is absolutely beautiful. It looks like they will be installing lighting soon, which will be nice as it continues to heat up and you don't want your dogs running around in the blazing sun. It's a little hard to find, since you can't really see it from the parking lot, but once you turn in, park on the side away from the pool and follow the path east, it's tucked into the back of the park. There's a huge metal gate with paw prints up in the air, so once you spot it, it's easy enough to get there. My only complaint is that there's no shade other than a few little wispy trees, so it would be nice if they had built some sort of ramada, but other than that, it's a lovely park and I will definitely be bringing my dogs back soon! read more

The dog park is super cute and divided into small and big dog areas...complete with dog bone shaped benches, pooper scoopers and doggie drinking fountains. I love that it is open until 1030pm!!!! It is super well lit, so I like to go every night for the dogs...plus I can get a few miles in jogging or biking too. We like to find baseballs that were hit out of the park...and it's fun to watch them play...Chachi, my youngest chihuahua wants a sk8 board and Spunky, the older chihuahua wants to try out for the team. There are rakes and shovels for picking up messes, a walking path for owners, as well as a ramada and lots of benches to relax on while the doggies play.
