Been here a few times, but never wrote a review. It's my second time here for Taste of Oakville since their menu had interesting dishes. For my appetizer, I got a green salad which had a nice dressing to it, tiny tomatoes, and tiny cut up figs. I would have liked bigger pieces of figs (if you are going to include it in the menu). For the main dish, I got rainbow trout which came out smaller than I imagined. It should be cooked well since it was a thin piece too. The spinach rice was a nice side and the salad had a nice colour to the overall dish. My partner's short ribs were not tender and it was hard to chew on. He said the meat didn't fall off the bone. For dessert, the walnut cake was moist, however the pistachio ice cream looked and tasted fake. Service was pretty good. The washroom at the back, near the kitchen was clean. Overall, I have given them three tries and each time, I didn't feel fully satisfied. I don't think I'll be going back. read more

I ended up at Colossus for a friend's birthday so we made sure to have a reservation. We came with a group of 8 and were seated promptly. It's not the biggest space but there's ample seating inside. The menu has a lot of the Greek classics/staples and having tried the Port Credit location previously, I fairly knew what to expected. We started out with Saganaki, fried calamari, and dolmades. Everything was cooked well and made to order and good flavour overall. For the main, ended up splitting the stix platter for 2 among 4 people. Thankfully we did the split since it was such a big portion that was more than enough for all of us. It also gave us an opportunity to try all the different skewers on offer and the lamb was the highlight for me with the sausage being the biggest surprise. Overall great experience last night! We had dined at the Port Credit location probably 8 years ago, so it's been awhile since we've been here. I did remember it being good and portions being generous. Last night we visited the Oakville location. We planned to eat a few other treats later in the night so we decided to just split the pork souvlaki meal. When ordering I said we were just going to order one meal and share. When the food came, to my surprise, there were 2 plates, each with our one meal portioned out! I was so surprised. I didn't even ask them to do this. As you can see from the picture, they were basically 2 full meals almost. I couldn't even finish mine! I took some home. My bf cleaned his plate but he was defs not still hungry. He also mentioned how he really liked it ( he's Greek) and it felt healthy. I agreed. I loved the rice and tzatziki. The potatoes were such a generous serving and it was the perfect amount of salad. The pork was the slightest bit a tad dry but I'm not complaining at all. It's my one little critique. When the bill came, there was a $3 charge for a "split meal". However, we weren't bothered by this because we both ate and were satisfied for $30. It's rare to find that anywhere these days at a sit down resto. We are for sure coming back. read more

We had a girls reunion. I like the décor, it's the Greece theme of course. We had appetizer with cheese triangles and bread. The server set the cheese on fire, assuming to burn off some alcohol or fat, it pretty much filled me up even before my main dish arrived. I ordered a pork souvlaki meal and it came with a small plate of Greek salad. Again , I was pretty full, had to take away some rice and pork. One of the girls came late, so we just sat around and drink coffee, we ordered three different kind of desserts to share when the last girl showed up. Too much calories on a single day. Definitely worth the money with big portions. This is a bit out of the way for me, but good for people living in or around Oakville. read more

June 17/2022: Dinner with friends. This was NOT a good meal folks! The place was hopping for a Friday night so it's a good thing we made a reservation. Our server "no name on check" was harried & rushed. On several occasions she left the table without us completing our order to her & made mistake on the order as a result! The place was noisy as a rock concert & not as clean as it should have been (dirty cutlery on the floor). In a word, the food was "terrible". It was way too cold, it lacked taste of any description & the portion size was way smaller then it should have been. I'm my opinion, this is NOT. A do-over. read more

Absolutely elated to find an excellent Greek place - an absolute gem! I've tried a good handful of Greek restaurants where part of their souvlaki meals were great, but the other parts mediocre - Colossus exceeded my expectations and I'm sure to come back soon The potatoes and rice were great and full of flavour. The lamb souvlaki was huge - portion size is excellent and the meal can easily be shared between 2 if you're not super hungry. The salad was ok - the sauce is more of an oil which has some flavour but runs towards the subtle side. I'm not a frequent fan of lamb as it often has this lamb-y / gamey taste to it. And so, I'm stoked when I find dishes like this where the lamb doesn't have that taste at all. For that alone, I'd be back in a heartbeat. Lastly, the baklava was great - a nice change of pace from a pretty hearty meal. Location is nice and accessible - I ordered takeout, but the restaurant is in a neighbourhood with lots of other things to do. All in all, a great Greek restaurant. Colossus has been on lakeshore in Oakville for a long time and I'm kicking myself that I didn't give it a chance sooner! Food was delicious and fresh! Pita was perfectly grilled and Tzatziki was delicious, a perfect accompaniment to the whole meal. You can tell it was warmed up on the grill and not in the microwave. Spanakopita (spelled Spanakotiropita on the menu, I'm not sure the difference in name as I'm not greek!) was delicious, they weren't shy on the filling unlike the frozen ones you get from the grocery store. Calamari had a perfect batter, crispy and it was fresh and not rubbery or fishy at all Lamb souvlaki was amazing!! Cooked perfectly to my liking, and came with the best Greek potatoes I've ever had. Pretty much all of these dishes came with Tzatziki which I appreciated, and the amount on the pita plate was very generous and was a perfect dish to order and have on the table throughout the whole meal. I don't have any pictures but my parents ordered the Greek salad and the the Horiatiki salad (main veggies being tomatoes, onion, red peppers, cucumber, olive, feta etc, no lettuce) and they loved both! I think they preferred the Horiatiki because of freshened of the vegetables. Overall amazing food, there's so many other dishes I want to try from this restaurant. Also something to note is we've ordered takeout a few times and the takeout is almost just as good! (Fresh in restaurant is always better) I remember us being so surprised with how the chicken souvlaki and lamb stayed moist and juicy. Any time i have ordered anything chicken breast it loses most of its juices travelling home. So that was a huge bonus for my family. The meals are fairly priced and portioned, and by the quality of the dish you can tell their chef's take the time to build plates to impress. The menu includes all the fun Greek items you hope for: saganaki, spanakopita, souvlaki, moussaka, octopus. There is a variety of selection for everyone! The restaurant is classily decorated while still giving the Grecian aesthetic. Colossus came highly recommended and as such my wife and I had elevated expectations for our first visit. When we walked in, it became immediately obvious that this was a warm and welcoming environment, and at first glance all of the seated patrons were enjoying themselves. We started off with drinks and appetizers. The Homous was smooth and flavourful without being overly garlicky and the Saganaki, flambeed at the table, is a definite must have. For my main, I deviated from the norm of souvlaki and instead opted for the fried calamari dinner which came with the best Greek salad I've ever had and beautifully crisp calamari sided with rice and potatoes. My wife went with her favourite Greek dish Mousaka, needless to say, she was not disappointed. With the two appetizers and generous portions of the dinners, we had no room left for desert, but that's not a bad thing! The service is attentive and friendly. We definitely felt welcome and that our presence was appreciated. Colossus is definitely worthy of a date-night return visit! Both me and my husband got bad food poisoning. I got the melikithia (eggplant and zucchini in a tomato sauce) and he got a chicken souvlaki. If that hadn't happened I would have been good. My family did catering from here for an event. The price per person was decent at 11.50 per person. There was a lot of leftovers after as the portions were very generous. Included in the catering were tatziki, humus and baba ganoush. That got finished up quickly. Included in the catering menu was potatoes, rice, pork and chicken kabobs. The Cons: The meat was very mildly seasoned, and adding the tatziki to it made it taste even more bland. The tatziki had no flavour. My friend and I visited for lunch on Sunday, intrigued after noticing nice decor and seeing positive reviews. We both ordered the lunch meals - I got the spankopita and she ordered the chicken souvlaki. The lunch meal comes with potatoes, rice, and Greek salad. Food came 20 minutes after ordering. The spankopita was average (stronger spinach taste than what I've previously had) but the potatoes, rice and salad were very tasty - loads of feta cheese on the salad :) Meals were great value given the quality, portion size and ambience ($12/each before tip & taxes). read more

I've been meaning to check this place out for a while and I finally got a chance a couple of weeks ago (date night with my mommy). The food here is pretty good, and I really liked how the meat/seafood that comes with dishes is not skimped on. Most restaurants give a big portion of rice or salad and not a lot of the protein, so that was a major plus. My server was pretty nice, she wasn't overbearing and was able to give us good recommendations. I wish I got her name I wasn't even thinking. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the price of some of the dishes such as the appetizers on the menu. It just seemed like for dishes as small as appetizers, it shouldn't be the same price as a main course meal....besides that I can't think of anything negative to say. Now that I've been here for dinner twice, I feel like I have a pretty good feel for the place. Overall my impression of this spot is similar to other Oakville restaurants - a bit too expensive for what it is, and service that is a bit too casual, but overall a decent meal. The meal starts with a variety of breads with two dips, a delicious olive oil and an oil with garlic. The wines are decently priced, which is a point in Colossus' direction. Both times I've been here I've had the souvlaki, once chicken, once pork. The chicken was far better in my opinion, the pork was a little dry. They come with a mountain of rice, potato, and salad, but only a teeny spoonful of tzatziki sauce, which isn't quite as much as needed. I have died and gone to Greek food heaven. Hadn't come for about 6 years because last time one of my guests faced an unfortunate barfing incident due to one of the alcoholic beverages. Those days are gone. Nestled upstairs on downtown Oakville's main strip, Colossus offers the BEST Greek food in Oakville HANDS DOWN. The deceivingly small entrance leads to a sizable and comfortable restaurant, tastefully decorated in typical Greek style. Lots of blue and white, but cool touches come out through iconic art, Greek word art and thoughtful placement of plants and mirrors. Great for kids. Super friendly and experienced waitstaff. Clean bathrooms. Great for groups. Saw a number of takeout orders too. Food was fantastic. Had the stix platter to share and we still had plenty to take home. Lots of wine choices. Baklava to die for served with warm honey and pistachio ice cream. Tons of krinos candies on exit. You'd do well to show up before the dinner rush to avoid the long lines. Took a stroll around Oakville, Lakeshore and came here. We'd come here almost every time we walk around Lakeshore. It's definitely one of my favourite Greek restaurants. And arguably one of, if not the best Greek restaurant outside of Danforth. As we approach the door, there's a sign that stats Colossus is apart of Taste of Oakville. Which offers a pre-fixe menu. We glance through it and decide to order off of it. We ordered the saganaki cheese from the regular menu, because it's a must have. I ordered the meatballs appetizer and roast leg of lamb dish. The meatball appetizer was outstanding. It was packed with flavour, resting on a bed of Greek Yogurt. Unfortunately, for the main course, the roast leg of lamb was tough. I prefer lamb chops, but seeing as how I was craving for lamb and it already being on the pre-fixe menu, I took the chance. Never again. It was tough and didn't even taste like lamb. I was full, so I couldn't eat my dessert. Which was the custard (Girlfriend got the baklava). So we took it home. My girlfriend didn't like her chicken as the main dish, because she said it wasn't anything special. It tasted like something she can make herself. The average lunch we had will not steer us away from this place. We'll definitely come back. Just will make better choices next time we come. read more
