I cannot say enough good things about this salon!! This past week I visited the salon after an awful experience elsewhere for a cut and balayage. I ended up with stripes of pink and platinum blonde all over my head, absolutely nothing like what I had asked for, and had an additional almost 3 inches of my length chopped off! Immediately upon leaving the other salon I emailed Colour Line in tears hoping to get in for a consult ASAP to see what can be salvaged of my hair; within 30mins I received an email with an appt for a consult the next day! I saw the owner, Kris, who went over my options and directed me to one of their stylists, and thankfully was able to get me in for the appt the same day. I saw Michael, and all I can say is wow! He is absolutely amazing at what he does and is a true artist (and magician apparently, lol). From beginning to end the whole experience was great; all the staff was welcoming and friendly and Michael made me feel so at ease throughout the process. Being nearly 7 months pregnant, and not the easiest of pregnancies, I was so excited to try something new to make me feel good and pretty again. After the disaster that was my head following the visit to the other salon, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to accomplish that for a while; but luckily I found my way to Michael at Colour Line and with his hard work I feel amazing and have had countless compliments already! I am so happy with my hair, I'm just going to tell you right now that this would be six stars if I could give them. After a fairly traumatic experience the last time I was at Zano Salon in Downtown Naperville, well, let's just say I waited wayyyyy too long to even attempt another salon visit. Eight months and a new city later, I obsessively trolled Yelp looking for a new salon. Took me three weeks to finally land on Colour Line - and Allyson, specifically. I called for an appointment and just under three weeks later, I was in. While I was a bit irritated at first that it would take three weeks, I totally get it now. Allyson is a freaking genius. But let's start with the basics. The salon is bright and colorful, with a huge magazine selection and a carefully curated product selection. (This gets important later.) Receptionist was on the phone when I arrived but Allyson came right out, and GAME ON. We chatted about my (admittedly dry and not attractively sunbleached) hair and what I'd like to see. I brought pictures. She told me she could do what I wanted and HOW she would do it, which I actually appreciated a great deal. And then she was off to mix color. We chatted quite a bit (normally I've got my head in my phone, or a magazine, but she was really delightful), she got my color in, and I was moved to a cute little waiting area with every magazine imaginable. Win. She gives a damn good head massage, too. So, my color turned out PERFECTLY. It was exactly what I wanted. And the texture felt soooo much better. I braced myself for the hard sell on products - this is the part that absolutely killed my soul at Zano - but... there was no hard sell. No sell at ALL, actually. In fact, she gave me samples and then told me to try and use what I already have at home, and if I wanted to come back for specific products she used, I could pop in anytime. What is this sorcery? No hard sell? Samples?? WHAT? I bought two of the products on the spot anyway, and fairly certain I'm going back for two more this week. I love this place. I love my hair. I love Allyson. I've already booked my next appointment. (PS... the prices are insanely reasonable for the quality and service.) read more

She also taught me how to properly do a blowout for my haircut and gave me pointers on what kind of products to buy for my hair type. I just had a wonderful experience with Ashley. I've been between stylists for a while now. Since I have curly hair not every stylist knows how to make it shine. Ashley talked with me about what I do at home and what I prefer so that she could give me a beautiful style that I can actually recreate myself. Not only that but the salon is taking plenty of precautions for COVID; masks, temperature taking, social distancing, plexiglass where appropriate etc. It made me feel comfortable and I'm glad that they care about keeping their customer and staff safe. Mask Nazis! Playing God. Awful. Actually confronted me in the parking lot before I even got to the sidewalk. I have been there before, on oxygen, and Elin and the management knew I was a person with a disability who had made the appointment, 2 months ago. No one called me to express concern or ask about my vaccination status. No one asked me about a "reasonable accommodation" which is required by law. She came out the door to confront me about not wearing a mask, and she had to "check with management" before allowing me in the door. Leaving me standing in the middle of the parking lot. I am a person with a disability, wearing oxygen full time. I have had TWO vaccinations, NO ONE ASKED ME ABOUT MY VACCINATION STATUS, ONLY THE MASK WHICH IS A FACADE, for what intimidation tactic is the question? Illinois law does NOT allow businesses to discriminate against people with respiratory disease. In fact, the law specifically recognizes people who cannot "medically tolerate a face covering" . FURTHERMORE, YOU CAN'T EVEN GIVE A PERSON WITH SHORT HAIR A HAIRCUT WHILE WEARING A MASK. UNBELIEVABLE. All this for a simple haircut. How terribly sad, unfair and discriminatory. read more

A great experience! I went here as a hair model (non-paying customer) and yet I was treated like royalty! The owner came over and talked to me for awhile along with the stylist in training to determine what I wanted. Originally I was set to get highlights (again), but they really thought I needed an all over lightning of my hair and then some highlights. It was exactly what I needed! When you walk into the salon, it's hard to believe you are not in Chicago. It is very eclectic in decor, yet there are some great homey touches, like the big pillows by the shampoo bowls. I am happy to report that I have (finally) found a salon home in the burbs. I came to Colour Line this spring after reading the reviews on Yelp and was paired with Rosie - I could not be any happier with my hair or my experiences at the salon with Rosie. Rosie is just a wonderful person - her personality is charming, funky, and fun, and I look forward to my visits to the salon just so that I can catch up with her. On top of that, she is a wonderful stylist and always does a fantastic job on my hair. She is knowledgeable about products but doesn't push them on clients. I can ask her about getting new products and get an honest opinion and I am very pleased with the products that I have invested in from the salon. The products are high-quality, but last a long time. I don't mind spending a bit more for a shampoo/conditioner/product if it is good quality and has some longevity. The salon itself very warm and welcoming, decorated in a colorful, eclectic motiff, and they make a mean cup of coffee. I have curly hair. Now I have a reason to wear it curly. Allyson taught me so much about how to wear my hair curly--the way I want--which is having soft, loose curls. She was able to cut, style, and teach me how to style my hair with minimum effort to get the look I want. It was literally like taking a class on curly hair as I learned so much. She transformed my hair from gel-crunchy curls to soft gorgeous curls that fall perfectly. I can't say enough good words about her other than she is as good at it gets. I have been going to Colour Line since I moved to Geneva a few years ago. The atmosphere is really warm and inviting. All the staff are friendly and the desk staff are helpful and welcoming. I see Cassie to get my hair cut and colored. She does amazing work. She is really great with dimensional color and is a detailed hair stylist, which I value. They recently changed their product line, which I honestly didn't love (really fragrant, felt like a perfume bottle was dumped on my head), but listened to feedback and brought back a line they had before in addition to the new stuff. I find it nerve wracking to find a new hair salon for a couple reasons. 1) I have found many salons to be intimidating or they don't take the time to figure out what style will look best on you. 2) It's risky business putting your hair in the hands of a stranger (literally) where you could leave really disliking the cut. And that's just sad when often times it costs an arm and a leg and your hair is one of the first things people notice about you. I had a FANTASTIC first time experience at Colour Line Hair Studio. The environment is fun and modern and all the staff I came into contact with were very professional and very friendly, both of which are very important to me. I felt very comfortable there. They offered me a complimentary bottle of water AND $20 off since I was a fist time customer along with some solid coupons for future visits. My stylist was Tiffany and I LOVED her! She took the time to talk through the style of cut I was considering and I had A LOT of hair that she would be cutting off. She took her time cutting my hair while using unique techniques; she is very knowledgeable and well skilled. I trusted her completely. I left a very happy woman! All in all, Colour Line prioritizes professionalism and excellence on all fronts and I was very impressed and had a great first time experience. Please don't believe the Instagram photos. I went in for a balayage and came out blotchy. Kris did take "Instagram worthy" photos even before we noticed the blotches. I went in for a correction and it came out worse than I expected. The best was when she said, "let me look through everything to make sure there are no more blotches." Well, she found one more!! Now I have a large blonde chunk that doesn't resemble a great balayage at all. All in all I would recommend going somewhere else. You shouldn't let clients pay $200 and leave with sub par hair. How the heck could I not have reviewed Colour Line? I LOVE this place - but I ADORE Levi, the gentleman who cuts my hair. He's beyond awesome. He understand that I have an active life and want a cut that's fantastic but simply to care for, but that's stylish and modern, too. But where Colour Line and Levi stepped up was in identifying issues I was having and couldn't resolve. It turns out that dying your hair for fifteen years isn't really good for it - and that adding product upon product to 'fix' the problem wasn't as smart as I thought. In steps Levi with a great cut and a little honesty and I now have hair that is fun (currently an asymmetrical cut that's purple, pink and orange - but tasteful!) perfectly cut, and wonderfully soft and full of life. I have super curly hair and so I went to see Allyson based on recommendations at naturallycurly.com. She did an ok job, but I wasn't blown away like some of the others. I might have given it a second chance if I hadn't found the atmosphere to be overwhelming. The smells from hair color and other solutions is so strong. Also the vibe is very urban and edgy as opposed to relaxing, so the music is louder than I would've liked, the environment is more chaotic. If I only have an hour away from my crazy kids I want to feel totally relaxed and this is not the place for that. read more

I have only had 3 people in my life consistently cut my hair. My husband and I recently moved to the area from Texas. So not only do I have to find someone new to cut my hair I have to get used to the different climate here. I am used to the intense humidity of the east Texas/coastal Texas regions. This change made finding a new person to cut my hair even scarier, because I don't even know my hair anymore! I got a boring trim from another salon at the beginning of June that was so blah. I got no shape from it. I know trims are boring, but they should give some shape back. So this time I decided that I would do a little experiment to see where I would go next. I started emailing salons/ using the contact us option. I listed out the things I needed. The biggest of these was my hair type. I have type 2a/2b curly hair (curly wavy) used to have 2c (big ringlets). (note I was only doing this experiment with salons I found on naturallycurly.com) Not even 24 hours later from sending my contact us email to Colour Line, I got a phone call from Niki. We talked about my hair and what I wanted my hair to do and if I had any hair goals. She suggested since I was new to the area and didn't know anyone that used this salon that I should come in and meet her and we could talk face to face and make sure that we were a good fit. Needless to say I booked an appointment right after our talk. There was no pressure to book. She asked me if I wanted to or if I wanted to think about it a little longer. She even sent me home with samples to try based on what we had talked about The haircut went great! She explained everything she was doing and why (which is one of the things that I loved about my last stylist back home). She showed me easy ways to polish my hair up on those days that air drying wouldn't be enough (aka date night, etc). She also explained different ways I could help out my hair on those days that I air dry. The top of my hair doesn't get much volume even with the waves. I loved getting tips and tricks that suited my 20 minute morning routine. The salon is brightly colored and is hip/homey at the same time. I loved the different type of people that were in there. I went in with nike shorts and t shirt (total college kid look even though I am not). I didn't feel weird at all. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. The only issue is that their chairs are very close to each other so talking to your stylist while she/he is working can be difficult, but it wasn't awful. They offer you a beverage when you walk into the door. It seems like an extremely professional salon. read more
