I have never in all my years have had a real complaint about a haircut and I have 3 daughters with long hair as well as myself with long hair. We don't get haircuts very often, but when we have we have normally gone to the Geneva location off and on over the years. We don't have anyone particular we see, but have had decent haircuts over the years with everyone we have seen. However, the haircut that my youngest daughter received last Saturday, 1/18 at noon by Amanda was pretty devastating. I know this is dramatic, but hair is pretty sacred to a lot of people. My youngest daughter who is 13, has particularly beautiful long red hair. We showed her the picture of what we were looking for, which is the same exact picture that we have showed every stylist for at least 3 years, without an issue. It's always the same haircut communicated as long layers, clean up, show the picture attached and that's it. Amanda said she recommended that we cut off to a certain point which was below her waist, and showed me and I agreed which was a pretty normal recommendation. You can't really be near the stylist in that studio as it is crowded and everything is so close together. I trusted that everything will go well since it wasn't really asking much. My other daughter was also getting a haircut at the same time so I kind of sat between. I'm so mad at myself for not watching her closer. Towards the end of the cut I noticed that Amanda was diffusing her hair so I walked over and asked about it since I thought that was unusual and since blow outs and hair washing are part of the cost and you have no choice to take them out of the price. I knew right away that the cut was horrendous and she ruined my daughter's hair, but I unfortunately already checked out and tipped both stylist well about 20 minutes before since my other daughter was done and had to check her out. My daughter's hair is chopped, meaning the choppiest, most terrible layers that I didn't think was possible. Nothing goes together. She literally ruined her hair and it will take at least a year or two to maybe get back to where it was and able to be blended better. A year or two! That's how much damage she did! She cut way more off the bottom than she initially showed me. Her hair is cut in a severe v shape which has never been or happened before. Her bangs are an inch above her eyebrows. Nothing is blended in and somehow she made it incredibly frizzy with this cut. I think the pictures will say it all. Again, this is the same "haircut" that she's had for at least 6-7 years of her life with the same instructions and results every time. Her hair was still very wet when we left and not styled at all. On side note I have had a few times in the past few years where they have either skipped the washing or blow out portion of the haircut on my daughters. I have never complained but if it comes in the price, it should be done everytime. I know there is technique and some artistic deviation that goes into a haircut. However, this was a heinous, violation of a haircut. We get sad looking at it. It'll grow out but it'll take a long time to get there. They just lost 4 customers because we are never going back there again! Again, I think the pictures will tell the story. 1. Picture of my daughters hair 1 month before the haircut 2. I am honestly so upset right now.i just left the hair salon I told Michelle that I had my brothers wedding today and I left looking worse than I came in. She didn't even bother washing my hair good, as of right now there are pieces of WET hair. My hair feels so dry doesn't even smell good. I'm just so upset at this result if she couldn't do what I asked her for which was simply just a bouncy blowout then she should have said she couldn't do my hair. $70 to have a birds nest on my hair is crazy. I came in and asked for a long shag. So it started off fine. Telling her what I wanted. Than it was time to wash my hair.. there was no scalp massage. Any kind of wash you would typically expect from a salon, didn't happen.... Than thru my cut, no conversation, what so ever. I watched her, and she was making nasty faces at me thru the entire cut. Than it was time to blow dry, she used a dirty round brush on my hair, I know it was dirty because I someone else's hair on it before she started. Then as the blow continues.. I see smoke coming off my hair and than she finds more knots cause by the hair dryer, and just rips them apart. She don't bother trying to use any tool, she just used her hands and ripped them apart.. not only that, thru the entire appointment, she was wiping her running nose on the back of her hand than continuing to cut my hair. No gloves, didn't wash afterward... nothing.. All I expected was one hair appointment to not be traumatizing and actually get what I ask for.. What is so hard about that... read more

Terrible experience. Not only did my hair look horrible & I cried when I got to my car, they also somehow didn't see my name in their system. I had a new account with no appointment (appointment was made on my old account) so they let me just walk in. Then they charged me a no show fee of $160 even though I just gave them almost $300. I have tried to get in touch with the manager 3 times and they refuse to speak to me. This is genuinely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more

I called Mario Tricoci today to make an appointment for my hair to be washed and dried. I had just had knee replacement surgery so I needed a little help. I was quoted $60 and told them I thought that was high for just a wash and dry. They asked me to hang on while they checked with their manager. She then came back on line and said $25. We went right over and Kathryn washed and dried my hair. I asked my husband to tip her $10. We went up to the cashier with Kathryn following. The cashier said our price was on the screen it said $60. I told them that we had been quoted $25 they said no it was $60. This was obviously a bait and switch. In desperation I scheduled a hair cut at Tricoci. My previous hair dresser at a different salon I felt like never took initiative to do what was best for my hair. I was constantly disappointed in my cuts and my hair never looking healthy. Tricoci definitely revived my hair! After cutting off about 3 inches and properly adding layers in the front and a few in the back, I felt like I finally had a hair cut that flattered me and was healthy!! I'm upset I can't come to this location anymore. The last time I came in for a all over color, I was told I was not going to like it and I have "too much hair". It's a repeated complaint from the colorist. She cancelled the appointment and didn't offer another type of quick color treatment. Very expensive for such a poor service. I scheduled an appointment for a cut and color...and just 15 min. before my apoinment they told me that they change the stylist and I have to wait. When they were working with coloring my hair then they told me that they chande the stylist for my hair cut. Guess the result were HORRIBLE. Plus they all were in rush and made me wait. I have long hair and they really messed up the color and I got a ugly brassy color and not to mention the hair cut. What a bad experience and never going back there. I would not recommend this place. I've been loyal to the Mario Tricoci brand for 23 years, frequenting four different locations in that time frame based on where I'm living. I've always had positive experiences, but I was so disappointed with my most recent visit in Geneva. I chose a colorist based on online reviews from other guests. She was so cold and unfriendly (no greeting, no conversation, not even a smile, rough with my hair) that I have never felt more uncomfortable sitting in a stylist's chair. For the last 13 years, I've requested the same service and have always been charged the same price. This time, I was charged additional fees without discussion. Only as I was leaving and passed by her chair, she decided to initiate conversation (for the first time) by asking if I was happy with my color. This was totally unlike any experience I've ever had at any of their locations. Not singling anyone out because everyone has bad days, but it was awkward enough that I wouldn't go back - at least to this location. read more

Last minute I called and booked my son a haircut. The stylist gave him a woman's cut and I tried to tell her before we left to fix things. When we got in the car my son was so upset. So, we went back in the salon and asked her to fix it. I told her clearly what we wanted fix. I wanted them to use the clippers on the side because it looked like a woman's cut. She took him over to wet his hair and she kept saying I don't understand what you want. I got upset then because we showed her pictures and were very clear. Then another stylist came over to help. She cut off all the hair on the top of his head and left only a poof. He hates his hair but did not tell them because he said they ruined it. He said why bother at this point? My mistake was making the appointment and trying to have them fix it. I thought he liked it when we left after they fixed it but he hates it. He said there is no point in telling them because clearly they could not cut his hair. We had to take him somewhere else to fix it but there is no fixing to the top because they cut all the curls off. But the sides are at least fixed now. I called the salon yesterday and still have not heard back from the manager. Just a terrible experience. My bad for expecting to get quality service. read more

I have been going to Mario Tricoci Hair Salon & Day Spa for years and have tried all of their services at least once except for hair. I've had my makeup professionally a couple of times by several different artists- but Laura is my favorite. She did a great job for my wedding and the wedding of my best friend- and remembers me by name each time I come in, even if it isn't to see her. I regularly see Alberta as an esthetician. She is excellent and friendly, and I love chatting with her each time I visit- usually once a month for my eyebrows. I believe the waxing prices are fair and comparable to other places I have gone- she just does a better job. I also see Toni one to two times per year for massages, and she is also excellent. Another person at this location who always remembers me when I come in- even though I don't see her as often. The massages here are more expensive than a lot of other places, but I also find the treatment here is more special- they have a spa where you can relax and enjoy yourself before and after your massage. They also offer a variety- my favorites are the signature and hot stone. I really recommend saving up for an 80 minute massage- it is really worth it. I've also used their manicure/pedicure services. While I haven't really been disappointed, I haven't really been impressed either. The techs are friendly, but the services are usually twice as much as other locations for about the same level of service. They do have some unique offerings here that other locations wouldn't have, so that is an option. I don't believe that appointments are required, but I always make one online before I go in to the salon. They can be quite busy! read more

A few years ago, I would say that this was my go to spot but things have definitely changed. I was incredibly sad to here that my favorite colorist, Hailey, was no longer working here. I knew I wanted to see her, so I reached out to find her and heard horror stories about this place. She was let go for the must unethical reason I've ever heard. I have been to the Geneva Tricoci a few times during the pandemic. I found it to be very safe as far as the limited amount of people, masks, and sanitizing. I was wondering how one could color hair without removing my mask, however it was effortless for the colorist Gina. My cut with Daisy was the same great experience. I have used Mario Tricoci, various locations for different services. My worst service ever, at this location was hair color. After my color was applied, I was told to sit and cook for 40 minutes. 20 minutes into it I got up to go to the washroom and when I got back my seat was given to another customer by another stylist! For the next 20 minutes, I had to stand around or sit in the washing chair while my color finished cooking. There was no other seats available not even the seats on the waiting bench near the coloring area. Also, I brought in with me the color I wanted. The stylist didn't bother looking at it. I initially thought she must be so good she can figure out the color without inspecting it that much. Until I saw the color I ended up with. It was much darker than my usual color. The colorist was so busy she wasn't available to talk about it and how to correct it. I called the manager, the best she could do is refund the color service fee (not the tip and not the blow dry after color ). She told me to buy a clarifier to lighten up the color OR come back and sit in their chair for another hour for a color treatment. read more

I have never felt so ripped off in my life! I went to Tricocci for highlights with Gina (I have seen her several times). After a consult, we decided I would simply have her tone 3 inches of hair near my forehead - three inches! I had also received an email with a free offer for a hair repair mask. She toned the THREE INCHES and when I checked out I was told my total was $70!!!! I told the lady at the desk that I simply had 3 inches of hair toned and I had a free promo for the mask. She ASKED me for the code for the free mask and as I was pulling up the mail she deducted $20 for the mask. I asked her "do you want the code?" She responded, "no, I just wanted to see if you had the email." Are you kidding me??? She was implying that I lied about a hair mask! Then she went back to speak to Gina about the 3 inches of toning for $50 who apparently dug her heels in on the price so that lady comes back and says "sorry, but that is the price for a "hair refresh" treatment." I told her that it was THREE INCHES OF HAIR and asked what would the entire head cost for a "hair refresh" to which she responded, " I don't know." What? Are you kidding me? So I asked for the manager and she advised me SHE was the manager. This young lady was clearly inexperienced in customer service and continued to push back. I told her she would be losing a client and she then reduced the price to $30. I will never return to Triccoci. I have paid as much as $220 for color and cut with tip. I have never felt so ripped off in my life and left with a feeling of a company trying to squeeze every penny out of me. I'm done! Shame on you, Gina. Andrew ROCKS! he looked at my hair dry, before it was cut and asked what I was looking for. He did exactly what I wanted. I got a precision cut and I couldn't be happier! I have been a client for more than 15 years and have visited numerous locations. This location is by far the worst. Front desk is not friendly at all (constantly). Today i had an appointment for highlights at 6:15pm and they decided to call me at 5:52pm and cancel my appointment. Girl at the front desk said that Amy wont be able to see me today and i need to reschedule to tomorrow. Mind you i was already on my way... i complained online and they called the location - they say oh she can see you at 6.30 now...what? And they lied by saying it was misunderstanding and she could have seen me later. No it wasn't misunderstanding because I particularly asked if someone else could see me and they said no, not today. So i didnt even want to go back at 6.30 and see them- if im not welcome why would i even bother and spend all this $$? Anyway i was shocked because it never happened to me in so many years visiting this salon. I was lucky enough to go to Naperville location and get a great service like in all locations except Geneva. UPDATE: i did email my concern to the email given below a week ago. And only now Juliana (manager in Geneva) called to follow up. She basically said that she wasnt able to find the call when they cancelled my appointment but she was able to find every other call. So it seems that she just blames everything to misunderstanding- and thats that. They just lost a customer. Its not a right place to be when they do smth wrong and do not accept their own mishandling blaming it on the client. read more

Dee is amazing!!! I came in with the majority of my long hair chemically burned off from trying to dye it at home. I had never had short hair in my life, and was pretty convinced I was going to have to shave it all off. Dee was so calm and walked me through everything she was doing. A lot had to come off...just touching my hair lightly clumps would come break off. My once long hair, was now to my chin. But, I swear to you, it looks sooo good! I get compliments by strangers by how good my hair looks. She's a genius and so kind too. Mind you, I had never gone to her before. I just blindly called in asking for help. I had never been to Mario Tricoci before but I have been needing a new stylist. I called the call center and was able to get an appointment that afternoon. The call center receptionist gave me the option of two stylist and I explained to her that I have never been there so whoever she thought would be better with short hair. She explained one stylist was $40 & the other was $45. The stylist for $45 could get me in sooner, so I opted for her. I got there and she went over everything, washed my hair, cut my hair and styled it, kinda..I wish I had taken a picture. I explained my hair needs teasing, texturizing and lots of product to so anything. The stylist used some mousse, blew it dry used a tad bit of hairspray and that was it. Oh and meanwhile, a couple of stylists were sitting next to me practicing on their own hair, talking about there flaws as a hairstylist and continuing ed and what they don't like, etc. I felt like I should have been at hair cuttery. It is now time to pay and the cashier says I owe $65. I said "excuse me? I think you mean $45" she said oh no you had our senior stylist and is $65 . I explained what I was told by the call center and she said that they don't know what they are talking about. She didn't offer to work with me or anything. I loved my cut, not my styling job, customer service sucked. Can't say I would go back for any service. read more

My stylist is James Tricoci. He is an artist with hair. I've been going to him for the last 10+ years. My hair is curly and kinky and I'v always had trouble getting a good cut. Not with James. He does a wonderful job cutting and styling my hair. I trust his opinion on hair care and the best products for my hair. He's open with me and does a fantastic job every time.
