On 25-Friday-2016 I spent a grueling 38m 54s completing The CrossFit Games Open 16.5 Rx, 21-15-9 Thrusters @95lbs and Bar-Facing-Burpees... two movements which are the bane of my existence. With the completion of this workout I met my goal of completing the 2016 CrossFit Open Rx and exceeded my expectations with a placing of 78th (of 228) in my Division for Western Canada. I can't remember the last time I was involved in a physical activity that I enjoyed this much that had so many benefits...I'm leaner and stronger than I've been in years, my posture has improved dramatically and my hip which has been paining me for the last 10 years no longer hurts. Over the last year I've heard from many visitors who say that Jesse and his staff pack a lot of programming into each class. I can attest that this programming build success and would recommend Cranbrook CrossFit to anyone who is interested in trying CrossFit.

I let Google Maps navigate us there and it brought us to a house on Spokane St. There were quite a few cars parked along the road, so I assumed we were in the right place. Seriously, if it wasn't for the cars, I might have thought Google Maps was taking us for a ride. You walk up to the house and look right for the passage to the back. Down some stairs and you open into a beautiful garden. I'm not going to say much more - you have to experience it yourself. But yes, it's pretty much completely outdoors, so your experience will depend on the weather. I asked for a menu and it was explained to me that they only offer one pairing of food daily, a soup and a sandwich or just the sandwich. This day's offering was ham and brie on a Swiss bun and potato and leek soup. This is all made on premises by the cook, Roland. I met Roland and Nina after we ate. Such a pleasant couple. The weather cooperated. Lunch was great. You know the food is good when you catch all the staff grabbing a bite here and there between visits to tables. The ambiance was super relaxing. So glad we found the place. Bring a camera.

The rooms are dated and from the late 90s/2000s, which in itself isn't terrible. However the magnet door cards that can't hold the door unlock info are not. We went through 7 cards on our three night stay. Also the hotel doesn't not offer or let you know about having your room made up. With multiple people staying in a suit at the very least you think they would drop off towels and coffee, this is not the case. Even if you request to have your room made up they will not do it. If you want towels, toilet paper or coffee , get it yourself with the attitude to match. Pool is small and only one of the hot tubs was working. AC needs a cleaning as we all left with a cough and stuffy noses that went away when we were out of the room. Upon check out the staff cannot even be bothered to ask how was your stay, it's like they already know.

We had a 1 bedroom unit and it was nice but very basic. We found the bed to be very uncomfortable and it was difficult to get a good night's sleep. When we were there in June it was very quiet and there weren't many other customers. The restaurant on the premises is now called Buckhorn and Main and it is a decent restaurant. They have coffee in the lobby during the day and my husband said it is very good coffee. My husband is a golfer and we were offered a special rate if he played 1 round of golf on their golf course. I enjoyed having TV's in both the living room and bedroom. We could both enjoy our own programs in the evening.

We chose our room, unpacked and enjoyed fresh brewed coffee and homemade cookies before heading out to explore the town. The house and room is warm and cozy unlike other heritage homes in which we have stayed. And the breakfast? Wow! Delicious! Gladys sent us happily on our way with fresh baked muffins which we were to fill to eat at breakfast. We will definitely stay here again on our way through Cranbrook.

Just to start off I am a intermediate level snowboarder but I also ski and a moderate to high…read morelevel. Overall the hill was nice but I think there are things that won't make me want to come back here anytime soon. First is I don't love that the majority of the blue and green runs are off a single chair, granted I understand that they are limited with what they have but I find for the beginner level people it is difficult to really move off the main quad chair which does move fast but is a bit of a wait. As well due to the main run being the nicest and easiest there are many many kids on it which does make the run more difficult as you try to avoid them and since you have to pass over the road it funnels people quite a lot. Second is I found the black runs were not only packed with moguls which is fine but they were very icy, and there was a lack of powder. The blacks also feel a bit unkept as they didn't seem very well groomed and not much snow to cushion. I do have to say I only went here for one day of skiing and hit about 10 different runs in the day. I did enjoy the ski out and the lines were not super long which made the day much more enjoyable!

It has very few greens and even those are blue-like in their steepness. That said, the mountain is beautiful! So natural and majestic - almost humbling to look at. The ski instruction and all the staff we met - in ticket office, rental shop, retail shop, restaurants were super warm and friendly and just seem so happy to be working here. I took 3 amazing half day lessons and went down the mountain - white knuckling sure, but eager for another ski trip sometime soon. We stayed at Northstar, which is amazing ski-in, ski-out. Sooooo convenient to jump out of bed, into your skis, and down the slope you go!

There are train tracks behind the hotel. We didn't hear the train but I think we felt the train. And outside the pool it's a disgusting abandoned train, but maybe that just goes with the theme of Cranbrook.

Checkout is at 11:00am and we were schedule to get picked up by the dude ranch shuttle van a 2:00pm so we planned to enjoy the resort for a few hours. When making the reservation and when checking in, we were assured that they would they would store our luggage behind the front desk. Upon checking out we were told they could not do that due to liability reasons so here we are stuck for 3 hours babysitting. They suggested we leave our luggage unattended in the corner of the lobby - who in the right mind would consider that?! Will certainly tell the dude ranch not to recommend the resort for other guests. Not the service you would expect from a resort of this caliber.

Everyone was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. We golfed one day with two young local guys. They were so helpful on the course, which was in impeccable shape, and every hole was more beautiful than the last. We gambled a little bit and actually won! We will definitely be back.
