I wouldn't call myself a "regular" except maybe for the last 4 months, but each time I have needed physical therapy, Columbia Physical Therapy has seen me through it with A+ results. Most recently I had a Total Knee Replacement that required an extensive amount of PT. What a team they have at the East Greenbush facility. The staff at the front desk are friendly and now greet me by name as I walk through the door. They are always cheerful and accommodating. Amy Travis has been my main therapist and has taken me from severely hobbled, where on day one I used a walker and now show nothing more than a mild limp, which is getting better all the time. Jenna was Amy 's partner when Amy wasn't in and together, they made a great team. They helped me get going, gently at first, then with more challenging request as I progressed. They knew I was uncomfortable but "no pain no gain "right? They were right there with me cheering the progress and urging me on. They have a deep knowledge of what needs to be done and why and will take the time to explain it to you. Of course, the answer to "is this really necessary?" will always be "yes". As someone who plays quite a few recreational sports and was hoping for a speedy recovery, I was hesitant on finding a physical therapist. Looking back, I'm glad I chose Columbia Physical Therapy. I had a knee injury that caused a significant amount of difficulty in doing simple things. Within the first week, Stefanie had me regaining stability and practicing stairs. By the end of my therapy (6 weeks later), I was on a treadmill running 5 minutes at 6.0, doing single leg deadlifts and leg presses. This will allow me to hopefully return to the field after gaining some muscle back, but this is still months ahead of where I thought I'd be. Columbia Physical Therapy was great with scheduling. They worked around both my work and vacation schedules. If there were specific times you wanted to go, there are multiple therapists that you can pick from so you didn't have to be with one the same therapist every time if you didn't want to. There facility was clean and the personnel was super friendly. Knock on wood that I won't need physical therapy again in the foreseeable future, but if I do I know I'll be back with Stef at the Valatie location! read more

I just "graduated" from physical therapy on both of my shoulders for biceps tendinitis and related shoulder overuse injuries that were so painful and limited my ability to even raise my left arm. I was in constant pain that sometimes woke me up at night. The entire team was courteous and considerate from the ladies at the desk including Anne, Stephanie and Lisa! (Forgive me if I left anyone out!). Michaela did my initial evaluation and then I saw Amy for the majority of my sessions but I also saw Adrienne. All the therapists who worked with me were friendly, knowledgeable and sensitive to my needs (some of the exercises and stretches were painful especially in the beginning). They all worked me hard and sometimes (all the time?) made me sweat! I asked a lot of questions and gave them info on my at home situation regarding my shoulders and they always provide thorough explanations pertaining to my circumstances. Really, I cannot praise them enough. My shoulders are not perfect (hey, I'm a senior citizen according to my age but not in my head!) but they are so much better than they were! My surgeon wanted me to have in person therapy as he wanted my arm physically stretched which couldn't be obtained virtually. The PT office I was hooked up with was going to be closed another month from the day that he demanded "in person". My surgeon's office found Columbia in Valatie and I was hooked up with them for the next 24 weeks (twice a week for almost 50 visits). Barb was the initial contact I had and after finishing my paperwork with her, I was introduced to Lydia. Knowing nothing about PT I couldn't have been paired with a more perfect therapist. Lydia knows her stuff and guided me effortlessly. Lydia continually stayed in touch with my surgeon and would explain all to myself (being a very naïve person). The office comradery was a joy to jump in the middle of to participate in their bantering. Karen, Stephanie, Steffie and the previously mentioned Barb and Lydia are a great group of professionals. I knew nothing and they all collectively treated me with skill and gentle "bedside manner". If you are deciding on PT I recommend Columbia Valatie office with absolutely no reservations. read more

I haven't reviewed Columbia Physical Therapy for several years since my first experience although I have been back many many times. My review will be the same now as it was then. They are terrific!!! I still think they take too much pleasure in delivering their therapeutic torture . Even more then their professional skills I appreciate the way they interact with each other and the way they deal with their clients. They seem to sense the different personalities and deal appropriately. They actually make you enjoy the temporary discomfort they inflict on you as they push the envelope to improve your condition. Be frightened each time they say they have something new for you! Seriously, they are a family and once you start with them you become part of the family too. When I tell my orthopedic doctors I am heading to Columbia they all indicate the respect they have for the group. Even the practices that have their own PT units. Following a long, very painful haul with a seriously arthritic hip, I finally took the leap for total hip replacement surgery. After reading reviews and an endorsement from my surgeon, I chose Columbia PT for my post op recovery. I was assessed and followed by the same therapist (Melissa) for my entire experience (in both the East Greenbush and Valatie offices) and was exceptionally pleased with the confidence she inspired, her knowledge, patience, professionalism, promptness, sense of humor, and the depth of her attention and coaching to move me forward to reach my goals. My only other experience with PT (in a different practice) was for a shoulder injury. The difference between the two experiences was beyond comparison. I went to Physical Therapy to help alleviate chronic pain in my back and both legs. My back has been a problem for a long time but my legs were a result of a car accident this past summer. I was particularly excited to see that they offered aquatherapy. After my first session in the YMCA pool, I felt I had found sometinhg that I could continue to do on my own. After 8 weeks, 3 sessions each week (1 in office 2 in pool), I felt great relief in my back and my legs and was able to resume long walks. Upon conclusion of my therapy , I joined the Y and hope to continue swimming 3 times a week. For ne, it is both an important physical activity as well as mentally therapeutic. I liked the coordination of office and pool activities. All of the staff were professional and interested in my "complaints". I would highly recommend this Physical Therapy and pool experience. I have just completed my final session of physical therapy at your facility and want to take a few minutes or words in this case to let you know how pleased I am with the outcome. Four days after surgery for a total knee replacement I met with Denise Bilka PT and we began an every other day schedule of what I often would describe as torture. Never did I think there would be so much involved to make the knee feel whole again. At times I would beg Denise to stop and all I would hear was "5,4,3,2,1 (and I have never heard anyone count so slowly) good job." I must not fail to mention her partner in crime, Samantha Webber PTA, who was a very able substitute. They were both equally tough but as I can see now both did a tremendous job to get me back to walking normally and with no discomfort at all. Top notch. I was prescribed physical therapy for tendonitis in my ankle and chose this small, family-owned practice for receiving treatment. I was assigned two primary therapists and occasionally worked with a third, back up therapist for treatments over about five weeks. A thorough initial examination and evaluation process measuring flexibility and range of motion started the process with measured markers for current status. I received at home exercises for homework between sessions and I was asked regularly how I was doing and my responses were heard and had an effect on treatment. Everyone from the person at the front desk handling appointments and payments to the therapists and even the folks using the facility for an ongoing exercise program were friendly, efficient and effective. I felt like I got what I needed from the process and was treated well too. What more can I ask? read more

I am a registered professional nurse and have been for 37 years. Recently We have run into streak with myself and my elderly mother. We both rehabilitated at Columbia Physical Therapy. I am usually quite critical and particular when it comes to health care workers, but I cannot find 1 fault from the front desk to the owner/ operators of this wonderful facility. They are top notch! They are very dedicated, friendly, competent, and up on all of the current modalities and treatments. They really take the time to get to know each and every patient and family member, and design their plans of care on a individual basis. All of the patients and staff seem to become fast friends with each other.Fellow patients and all staff are very encouraging to each other. I'm a repeat customer for many years and many orthopedic ailments. Each and every therapist I've worked with at Columbia PT has been great! They get to the heart of the problem and take you through a course of therapy that gets you to your goal safely and with optimal results. They are professional yet casual and friendly. You come away feeling like you have made a new friend. Each and every one of the therapists work together and pay attention to what is happening in the room. They are constantly, in a very nice way, helping each other out. Everyone greets you and makes you feel welcome. The facility is excellently equipped and every tool you might need is available. My most recent PT sessions were with Ashley who took me from shoulder rehab to shoulder replacement rehab and back to full range of motion. After suffering the worst injury I could've imagined in November 2018, I was referred to Columbia PT by my trauma surgeon. I was struck by a car and endured an Open Pilon Fracture of the right leg. I never thought I'd walk again, or if I did, how much pain would I be in? I was very apprehensive about starting physical therapy, but all my fears were laid to rest the first meeting I had. I met with Michaela and Amy and they gave me hope. They had me doing simple but effective exercises in the office and I always had homework. I kept up with the exercises at home and I couldn't believe the progress I was making. Amy always met me with a smile, was genuinely concerned and listened to all of MY concerns. I consider this to be the best physical therapy group in the Capital District. I also cannot speak highly enough of Gina, who has been my therapist all these years and seen me throughout a number of ailments and painful flare-ups. Gina is so knowledgeable in her field of work and very good at what she does. From massage, to developing exercise routines that work best of me, to answering questions, to educating, she is just wonderful. My physical therapy appointment with Adrienne started pretty innocuously. I was coming in for an injury I sustained either by falling asleep and rolling off the couch, or saving a small child from a dinosaur/tiger hybrid that had escaped from a government lab. I can't remember. Anyway, the surprise was that Adrienne was a consummate professional the entire time. She made no mention of the holes in my sweatpants nor the body odor all my other physical therapists have berated me about. More importantly, I got the genuine impression she was invested in my recovery, which is itself a huge motivator to do the damn exercises when I go home. I eagerly await our next PT Session, and I can't wait to show Adrienne my collection of tin-foil hats. For when the aliens come. And I don't share those with just anybody. read more

I attended columbiaPT at a challenging point in my life in my 30's with a back injury. I had the pleasure of working with Ashley, Amy and the front desk staff. For me a big part of recovery is staying positive, and the staff is nothing but great at making sure that happens. From a chipper upbeat attitude when I enter and the fun conversations during the sessions, everything was fun about the recovery process. Some of the exercises they give you are a laugh all on their own, I cant even remember how many I labeled my "least favorite". 21 sessions over 7 weeks later I'm walking and getting scolded for testing my physical boundary's. I have been to Columbia Therapy many times over the past 3 decades and I have been more than pleased each time. This time an old injury of ten years, a shoulder, had become painful. It was a combination of tendonitis and frozen shoulder. My treatment was right on target and all the therapists that worked on me were great. My favorite is Amy, as she had treated me twice in the past, on other injuries. She knew just how hard to push me without going too far. Therapy is a fine line of not enough, no progress, too much, it can irritate. Columbia PT is great in this respect. Only once did I have to say "be meaner" like Amy does! Ha ha. Melissa Gentile, remember that name. I have had physical therapy on and off for the last 10 years with neck, spine, shoulder, leg and other issues, often unable to sleep because of he pain. Melissa did the most professional and comprehensive assessment, taught me things I'd never learned before and was able to address some of my issues on the first visit. I went home with exercises that are effective, have a care plan, including aquatherapy and optimistic about recovery of mobility for the first time in a very long time. Thank you Melissa. I have been to Columbia P/T repeatedly (since 2004?), for knees and shoulder surgeries, most recently for a bilateral double knee replacement. As always, I found that all of the therapist went out of their way to help you progress, and check on your condition. This time around, Dan, Amy and Jen were outstanding in getting me prepared for a return to work with good strength, conditioning, and great range of motion. Their work definitely accelerated my successful rehab to almost 100% in 6 weeks. I would not be returning to work, basketball officiating, and baseball umpiring without their support and effort.
