DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE IF YOU SUSPECT GRASS SEED INHALATION. Have been going to them for years, since they were in a smaller clinic. Things changed when they built a fancy new building of their own on the river, and now it seems to be mostly a monetary focus. My friend is furious that they "let her dog die" and I had my own bad experience when I brought my own dog in for evaluation on a suspected airway obstruction. Instead of looking at the airway obstruction, they ran over $400 in various blood tests-including pancreas for some damn reason! When it came time to address the airway obstruction, they said they don't have the specialized equipment- which is the whole reason I brought her in. We live in the Columbia River Gorge, and this is a semi-rural vet hospital, and they don't have the expensive equipment to diagnose a simple grass seed (which can be deadly). When I asked why they don't have the equipment I was told they just can't afford it, and nobody there is trained to operate it anyway. I told them I thought it would be a good idea to get this because grass seed problems are very very common around here. Apparently the nurse didn't like my audacity to suggest what I would like to see in a vet, and had the owner call me back and tell me off for 10 minutes, then tell me to come and pick up my sick dog - that they would not treat it. Wow. Just kicked a sick animal to the street. They were very careful to hold my pet back until I paid. Imagine, kicking someone out of your practice and expecting payment! But it showed me their priorities and that they do this OFTEN. I understand owners are upset when their pets become sick, and I wish they would also, and show a little compassion. Nope- out the door with you! Update: She was taken to another vet, who quickly noticed a swollen neck, so they put her under anesthesia and checked out her airways- what I wanted Columbia to do! They found no obstruction, but he as a type at inflammatory laryngitis cats get, and an experienced vet would know about. Treating with cortisol. I really feel like Columbia run all those vague tests to run up bills, and they started doing that when they moved into their new fancy building. It's so transparent. The folks at Columbia vet were awesome! Our adventure doggo had a mouth full of porcupine quills and couldn't eat or drink. Columbia vet emergency services were awesome and able to get her in as soon as they opened and took great care of Bella. While she was in alot of pain she wagged her tail when I brought her in because she knew they were going to fix her. They had to sedate her due to quantity and depth of quills. Was sent home with antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds with clear instructions. In addition to quick and professional service I was pleasantly surprised at reasonable fee that was much cheaper than alternative emergency services in Portland area. read more

We have dogs and cats that we take to this vet hospital. We have been with them for quite a while, starting in their old location and moving to the new one with them. They are caring, friendly and always answer all the questions you have. When we had to put our German Shepard down several years ago, the vet was so sweet and kind even coming out to put our Zena to sleep in the van so she wouldn't have to walk in. Many tears were shed and I know how much they are. Fast forward to our newest member of the family a puppy we named Taran, they were so awesome! Not only answering all my questions but also giving me hints about dealing with my new little bundle. You don't always get the same vet each time, but I know all of them at this point and each one is fully qualified to take amazing care of your beloved furry family member. read more

This place is absolutely amazing! The vets and all of their staff are so caring and compassionate. You can tell they are doing what they love the most for those they love the most, the animals!! Highly skilled and extremely knowledgeable but they don't expect you to speak veterinarian, they explain everything in a way you will have a clear understanding of exactly what is going on with your fur baby. Only reason I have them 4 stars instead of 5 its because their a bit on the pricey side. I'll still be taking Polly there though because she's worth it!! read more

I took my puppy here to get her shots that were necessary and told them when she was born and they started her parvovirus vacation series (round of 3). They came to my car and got my dog, but didn't ask me what breed she was and just took her. After the third dose of her parvovirus they told me that she needed another one because she was too young when they gave her the first one and I was responsible for paying for it ( not cheep) Also, when my puppy was getting her 1st shot the vet called me when I was waiting in the car with my daughter. I had her on speakerphone and the vet told me that she was concerned of a heart murmur that was significant and she most likely need heart surgery or she was going to die. My daughter was crying hysterically. I told the vet that I probably wasn't going to be able to afford that option and she suggested that I relinquish her to someone who can afford her treatment. Fast forward a year my dog is happy and healthy and her murmur went away and I will never go back to this place. The end, thought I'd share my experience. read more

They are horrible! All they care about is Money if I could give a 0 I would the only reason they got a 1 was for taking my sons dog after hrs when he was hit by a car. But no follow up aftercare instructions and we can't even use the images from the X-rays and mri they got paid for because they aren't good enough. This was my sons dog who is a combat veteran and this dog is. his emotional support dog that got him through some of his worst times. They wouldn't see him for follow up until the balance owing was paid up and follow up paid in advance they even said he wouldnt qualify for their Angelfund because the dog has to be under 7 which he was the day they saw him but turned 7 for days later. My son laid his life on the line for his country and this is how he was treated shame on you! I should of listened to my neighbor when they said you were horrible!!! read more

So extremely disappointed with the service and care my pup has received from this vet. The first incident was given a take-home flea and tic oral medication that was not the correct one for his age; at the time he was 4m , the medication was for 6m and older . At a cost of $60. If Ididnt read through the instructions when I arrived @ home I would have just given it to him trusting the vet knew what he/she was doing, called and all they said was oh sorry about that, you can come back and we can swap it out for the appropriate one must have been miscommunication. I decided to give them a second chance. BIG MISTAKE.I dropped him off this morning to get neutered. I received a call 2 hrs later with them stating they were so sorry, but there was mis communication, and he was given 2 doses of the pain meds .This can cause vomiting and diarrhea. , but that they would do blood work @ no extra charge and will send me home with gi protection meds , and if I wanted they can give me a free no charge blood work check up again in 48 hrs ... as if they are doing me a favor. Clearly, the communication issues are ongoing . I will not be taking my pup in for any additional treatment here. read more

By far the worst veterinarian clinic I've ever been to in my life. My 100lb dog was hit by a car, at around 9pm. They were great about meeting me at the clinic in a timely manner. However once I got there they didn't have a stretcher or any way to transport my dog safely inside. We had to use a blanket I had in the back seat to get him in the clinic. Once inside the clinic they gave him narcotic pain meds without weighing him or asking me what he weighed first. They spent maybe 15 min examining him and then told me he had no broken bones and that he needed to rest for at least 2 weeks. They gave me some anti-inflammatories and sent me home with an $833 bill. I had only brought $300 with me and told them it's stop by the next day in the afternoon to pay the rest. The next day they called me first thing in the morning to collect the rest of the bill, they didn't even ask how my dog was doing. After a few days my dogs condition hasn't improved and he was in alot of pain. I called them & they told me they couldn't help me whatsoever, until I paid the remaining balance on my bill and they wouldn't schedule a follow up unless I gave them $300 up front. I'm also an Iraq veteran and my dog was a certified ptsd companion animal but they wouldn't offer me any of the charitable grants they receive for veterans to help me pay my bill. Because they said I was avoiding them. I ended up taking my dog to a different vet clinic however Columbia refused to release any of my dogs medical records. Until I completely paid off the balance meanwhile my dog was unable to walk and suffering in extreme pain. I got him into the other clinic and within a few minutes they diagnosed my dog with severe nerve and spinal cord damage as well as some internal bleeding. He was in extreme pain and I ended up having to no choice but to euthanize him. If I hadn't of taken him somewhere else my dog would of had to suffer for way longer then necessary and I would of had to pay alot more for the bill. They literally told me they thought my dog was faking it. I won't ever take another living creature here in my life. read more

The staff are ALL AMAZING, KIND, FRIENDLY,, CARING, COMPASSIONATE individuals, and most of all Dr.Kendra is absolutely unbelievable at what she does!!! They are all lifesavers!!! I literally drove 2 hours just to come here because of the stellar service, and I can trust them with my fur kids!!! This vet promotes working with owners and their pets but that is not how they operate. They are not honest about how long they have been in business and promote their new location which in turn means, bill, bill, bill. You will never get to see the same vet twice and WILL always get a differing opinion. The "new" owner has allowed many pets to live in pain without managing the veterinarians who are most often very young and green. Her expertise left my dog in an anesthesia stupor and did not recover, finally forcing my pet to be forced into the back of my car and it was very difficult to get him into the house. It is very hard to transition from a Veterinarian to a business owner: this place is a mill which needs to churn out patients to pay for their expensive, new facilities. They have left my neighbors dog without the proper care and limping 75% of the time. No effective medication or compassion. Go somewhere else where the compassion and care is based on just that, not dollars. read more

Worst experience our last 3 visits here!!! No communication, all day or all night waits and this time 3 hours to get triaged with only 5 ahead of us and when asked if they were going to triage him at that point they said we are welcomed to go to another hospital if we would like to get seen sooner. They are very fast and organized when payment is due however. We are down to our last pet and because of this "caring place" I will never own another pet as long as we live here. read more

On Sunday, my mom was in a car accident. She fractured her pelvic bone, her dog flew out of the car ( but was ok) and totaled her car. My brother called me in a panic because all she wanted was to make sure her dog was ok and to get her home. The vet told my brother that he had to pay $369. If he could not they were going to charge my mom $25 a night + the $369 until she was able to pay it. $150 of it was an after hours fee. What kind of a pet hospital operates like this? It's like her animal was in impound. Clearly they are in this for money and not for the animals or for the owners. I would NEVER go here and just imagine how they would treat my dog for basic care with this mentality. The best vet clinic in the Gorge! Dr. Kendra Moulton is fantastic. She is very thorough in diagnostics and treatment options. Their new facility would rival any "big city" clinic but without the high prices. They are now even open on weekends! YAY! I changed from my old vet to CVH as they have mobile equine service with good scheduling ability (you don't have to wait a month to get a farm call). They now have haul in ability for those that prefer it. With horses and alpaca having the ability to get treatment easily at home is great. Most other vets are limited in the size of their clinic that they cannot get out same day if needed. One of my horses had a cut above his eye that needed stitches - they squeezed me in and had Dr. Jesse (who is great!) out in 30 minutes. No scar to boot! :) Dr. Moulton has been caring for our two dogs as well - one with a serious immune disorder and another who is aging. She referred us to an internist when he wasn't getting better and has been with us managing his disease every step of the way. The care she shows is far above what I would expect given how difficult her job must be. Lastly, I feel that the admin and vet assistant staff are all so professional, compassionate and accommodating. They know our animals are family and make every effort to help with scheduling, picking up of medications, etc. I have recommended CVH to several people and now to YOU! read more

Dr. Kendra cares for my dogs and horses with the upmost degree of professional kindness and concern. I moved to Eugene, Oregon but just drove my dog to Columbia Veterinary Hospital on Monday to have Dr. Kendra care for him. I completely trust her and I knew she would give my dog the best treatment. Andrea at the front desk is awesome as well as all of the other staff here. I completely trust this place with my animals and know they will be given the best care, at an affordable price. I took two cats 5 months ago. Paid in full. 2 days later one cat died mysteriously. Then 6 months later the clinic sent me to collections by mistake! Due to their error! And no statement or phone call or anything. Just sent my info to some third-rate collections agency. It was horrible. And in the collections letter, they even misspelled the word 'judgment.' Honestly, I wasn't that impressed. I had read a lot of amazing reviews prior to coming in, but my personal experience was not stellar. I will admit their pricing is good. However, their front desk staff are quite aloof. I gave them the benefit of the doubt my first visit (everyone has a bad day), but nope, again, didn't even get a hello on my second visit. The tech who took us back was also quite reserved, and didn't even greet my dog. It really seemed like the staff working did not like people or animals. Anyways, the vet was ok; nice enough, but definitely not the most thorough that I've encountered. On another experience, I had a dental cleaning done, and dropped my dog off at 7:30 AM. I was told he would be done in the late afternoon. I got a call at 4:45 pm that they had just started, and would need to pick up my dog the next day. Which really isn't a big deal, except that I purposely took the day off work for the occasion, and it was very inconvenient to have to get him the next day either before or after work. I would have appreciated if they just asked if I had wanted to reschedule, or had communicated earlier that there would be the possibility of needing to stay overnight. I also did not receive an update from the vet following the procedure, which seems strange to me. My dog was safe throughout his procedure, which at the end of the day is the most important thing, but all in all, I wasn't thrilled with the experience, and I think I will be going elsewhere in the future. read more

Not really a new business but it seems like it. New offices, new doctors, new attitude. I first took my cat there several years ago and I thought it was so-so. The male doctor was pretty good technically but his pet-side manner was nothing special. I went in in February with my cat again. WOW. I had to walk out again to look at the sign and make sure I was in the right place! New everything, but mostly NEW ATTITUDE. I felt very cared for. Dr Lindsey loves on my cat like it is her own. She took much time in explaining the issues we face and was a real straight-shooter about health care options and the costs of different treatments I am so loving what is happening here. A breath of fresh air in the dalles. God knows the Dallas needs that!!! read more
