Rustic describes it well, and we were actually in a semi modern cabin with running water. I noticed on another review that someone felt like they were camping in a garbage dump, and that's exactly what it felt like. I wish I had read that review before I went. The cabins are situated around a ton of junk, and around a bunch of permanent RVs with junk all around them. There's a lot of broken boards, an old boat that hasn't moved in forever, and honestly just playing crap everywhere. It could be easily fixed up and all the trash picked up in one solid a day with a couple workers. The review I saw that mention all the junk was over a year ago and the owners said they were going to take note but apparently they have done nothing. They have some goats to eat some weeds, but they have the goats in a pen not too far from the cabin we had and I could absolutely smell goat piss. We stayed for three days, so use the bathroom building for shower, etc., for three days, and for all three days the same black hair in the sink and un emptied trash stayed as is, and I'm quite certain during those three days, no one came to even check the bathroom. We wouldn't go back because when we go to stay in a cabin in a state park, we are looking for a nice scenery and unfortunately, it really does look like a junkyard. Needs much improvement!

While this place looks very rustic on the outside. They were very modern and neat on the inside. They were by far the cleanest place we have stayed at in the Gould/Walden area and we've been coming up here every summer for 5 years. The hosts are super friendly and took such great care of us. Gerry (with a G) and Millie are quite crafty making purses out of cowboy boots, fur coats, hats, boots, gloves, cell phone cases, clutches and more. The breakfast buffet is served from 7:30-9:00, the website hadn't been updated with the change and said they close breakfast at 10am. We arrived at 9:30 and were quite sad to find the buffet closed, however Gerry and Millie reopened the kitchen and made breakfasts for us! We promised to show up before 9am the next morning and found a buffet of the usual items including several different breads and fruits and breakfast burritos and home made green chili! We came back around 5pm from our adventures and Gerry invited us over to the main building for homemade ice cream! What a treat. Then they shared with us the tools of their trades for the various arts and crafts they produce. Very sweet of them. We stayed in the Bear cabin and it was perfect for 4 of us. It has a queen size bed in a separate bedroom and two twin beds in a loft. The small, but very functional, kitchen included a small fridge, a convection/toaster oven, a microwave, a 2 burner stove and a sink. A great experience... we'll be back next year if not before!

Milly walked us over to our cabin , The Wild Rose, and even found something for us to stabilize our kickstand on our motorcycle. There is also fruit, cereal and pastries. You can add supper to your stay by just letting them know the day before. There is not a menu, this is more of a bed and breakfast situation. Trust me though, the meals will not disappoint. ! Ours was a melt in your mouth steak cooked exactly how we wanted it. Served with bread, salad, potato, corn and cheesecake with fresh peaches! Our cabin was spotless and so comfortable. We enjoyed time on the screened in porch. We saw moose and deer by the pond located just steps from the cabins. They also provide fishing poles if you want to fish their pond. There is so much more to say but I encourage you to check it out on your own. If you are looking for peace, quiet and beauty, this is the place! Please note that our cell service was very spotty. That is actually a relief for us but the main office does offer wifi if you need to be more in touch! You need to visit Milly, Jerry and Toto!

On 8/1/25 I contacted the hotel and spoke with Danielle because when I made the reservations through Booking.com the price I was quoted to pay was $310.00 for the 2 nights. After reviewing my bank statement I was charged $310.00 and then $250.00. When I spoke with Danielle she could not tell me why I was being charged amounts that did not even match what I was to be charged. Danielle could not tell me what the additional $250.00 charge was for- originally she stated that "you did not even stay here it looks like you cancelled your room" and I had to explain to her that we did stay there and what room we stayed in. She then stated she was not sure what was going on but she would get a hold of the manager (she was out) and they would call me back in 30-45 min. I never heard back from anyone. 8/2/25 I called the hotel once again to speak with the manager and spoke again with Danielle and explained what the situation was and she took my information and said she would have Jenn call me back the following day since she was out (this would have been Sunday). I never heard back from anyone . 8/5/25 I called the hotel and spoke with Danielle and she stated that Jenn was out for a bit and would call back. Jenn called back and left a message so I returned her phone call. She explained to me that I was charged $250.00 because they felt that we had smoked in the room and this was discovered by housekeeping and I guess verified by the front desk- news to me since not one of us smokes! From what was explained to me, if we would have gone back to the front desk to let them know that our room smelled like smoke then it would not have been an issue. If I was a smoker and knew that I had done this at the hotel I would not be fighting a $250.00 charge but I am not and this is not acceptable. Where our room was located there were several people smoking right outside the exit door of the hotel by our room- but it was not us. I have never been treated the way the staff has treated me during this whole issue- customer service is not acceptable - no follow through. I asked why I had not been contacted after all of the messages that I have left and Jenn's comment was " I call back on messages that I get when she originally stated that she had talked to me previously and we had never spoken about this issue until today. After reading the most recent reviews that patrons have left in the last month regarding their issues like: incorrect charges, rooms that are not cleaned or wallpaper falling down and dog feces in the doorway there are a lot of things that need to be changed.
