We had the pleasure of celebrating our anniversary with dinner at the Columbus Grill. It was simply delicious. I had the Rack of Lamb and my wife had the Salmon Beurre Blanc. We received generous portions of the entrée as well as the mixed vegetables. Our hostess suggested we take a booth along the front window, since there was a birthday party in the main dining room. This was perfect for a quiet evening dinner. The only thing lacking was a Rosé wine for dinner. They had run out, so we settles for a Riesling. I had hoped they would have Mateus Rosé , a Portuguese wine. Maybe next time, since we definitely will be back. read more

Colombus Grill was a great surprise to me. For many many years I have been looking for a good Portuguese restaurant around Virginia and Colombus is the only restaurant that has not disappointed me. My friend had the Sunday brunch which includes a bunch of traditional Portuguese dishes and it's all you can eat for a generous price of 16$. I had the Colombus stake. It comes in a marble hot stone with French fries and 3 sauces. As an appetizer we had shrimp turnovers a sort of Portuguese fried dumpling with a great flavor shrimp filling! The Portuguese name is Rissois de Camarão,now don't forget that name because it's the best appetizer you can eat! read more

I recently had my wedding reception here. Ana and the staff were amazing, the food was so good and my guests are still talking about it. Ana went above and beyond to help when my wedding cake from a different vendor was not delivered on time as promised and were they were unreachable. She was able to get me a new cake from cakes by happy eatery delivered within an hour. She also was able to help with a dress issue I was having as she used to work in a bridal boutique. The food and service are unbeatable, they more than made up for the cake fiasco from the vendor I originally went with! The decorations were beautiful, they really made my big day perfect! read more

My family and I came here for brunch November 2019. We were a group of 14 people. We were definitely not impressed by the taste of the food and the variety. Nothing really stood out for us and it was passable, at most, definitely wasn't worth the price. Our tab came out to more than $350 after drinks (juices and sodas) since everything was so overpriced. The tip was automatically added to our check, although our server wasn't the best and most attentive, and seemed overwhelmed by the big group. I have been coming to this restaurant for many years and it has been absolutely remarkable. Not only is the food amazing but the service is top of the line. I recently got proposed to in mid year of 2021 and of course I had to contact Columbus for not only to be my caterer but to also rent the private room they have for my bridal shower. And the execution of the party, food, decoration, and service was amazing! I got married this year on May 15th and I chose Columbus Grill to be the caterer for our wedding after the amazing work they did for my bridal shower. The owner Nuno and his assistant manager Ana were absolutely amazing with communicating, organizing and executing everything that was asked from them. Even with a hiccup with the venue not having the proper equipment needed for catering, both Nuno and Ana made sure to make anything possible. I am so very pleased with all the work that was put into our special day and will forever remember the amazing work Columbus Grill and the staff did to make sure our dream wedding came true. This seems to be one of those joints that uses a microwave as their primary piece of kitchen equipment. You order the food, they put the prepared components together, microwave it, and bring it out. The staff was all really friendly, the bar looked cool, and its banquet hall is probably good for large group events, but I can't recommend it for its food. read more

Visiting from western Maryland. Never ate at a Mediterranean restaurant before so I figured I give it a shot. When I arrived around 2pm the place was practically empty. I took a seat at the bar. I asked the bartender what she suggested for me to order, she insisted on the rack of lamb. This was also a first for me but I found it tasted absolutely amazing. Went on a Friday night for a parents night out with my husband. We had 7pm reservations but despite being the Friday after Valentine's, and a Friday night, the place was pretty empty. First impression was it smelled like dirty cleaning water from a bathroom. The menu was pretty limited, including the wine list which didn't have many offerings of just glasses of wine. The service was perfect. They have a nice looking bar, too. Wine bar fully stocked, too. My date and I ordered the bruschetta for our appetizer, it was so fresh, and the flavors and textures were on point! I had the Mediterranean Pita sandwich. This was our 2nd time. Since our first visit was so fantastic, we expected a lot. But I was disappointed. Whenever we go, it is usually not so many customers. So we could sit down right away. This day, bar was a lot of customers. Maybe because of that food did not come quickly enough like last time. We ordered assorted cheese plate. But clearly amount of cheese became small. We ordered stake and cod. Stake was OK, but cod was very salty. I do not know if it is typical for Mediterranean style of cooking or not. But my blood pressure became sky-rocket. Out of child menu, butter and cheese pasta, which is basically mac and cheese, but it was greasy. More than butter, it was just oil. My wife and I have been to Columbus Grill a few times and we are happy to have it added it to our rotation of go to restaurants in Manassas. After passing it many times and wondering what kind of restaurant it is, we decided to give them a shot one night when we were looking for something different. The atmosphere is casual, but the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing. The only downside is that they tend to be a favorite place for large dinner parties, and the open design of the restaurant carries the noise of large parties throughout. (This was the case on our first visit - a large group of local teens were there for their Prom Night, and their voices carried throughout the dining area.) I've been here a few times over the past 5 months and have tried several dishes. The Portuguese specialties are the way to go. The Columbus Steak - served on a hot rock with three house-made sauces - is a treat for any carnivore. Equally pleasing is the Bitoque - a strip steak served with a fried egg on top. And if you are daring, try the Sardinhas Grelhadas - these are awesome. But the most awesome thing on the menu is their Seafood Veloute - this is one of the best soups I have ever had. There's been a couple of misses on our visits, however. The paella is ample and well-seasoned, but the shrimp and rice were overcooked when I ordered it. On Saturdays they offer a few dinner specials - one is usually some type of fish stuffed with crab, and that's a winner. They also have a special pasta - my mother-in-law tried one of the pasta specials and it tasted a bit off and strong in the seasoning. As other reviewers have noted, sometimes they can go a bit strong on the salt or seasoning. But overall, the hits far outweigh the misses. And their desserts are awesome - I still have happy dreams about the Drunken Pears! Happy Hour at the Columbus Grill is perhaps Manassas's best kept secret. Monday - Friday, 4-8PM they offer nearly all of their ample selection of tapas and appetizers on special for $6. Circumstances of fate led the wife and I to eat dinner here twice last week, and we dined on a wide variety of tapas and enjoyed all of them. The calamari and Portuguese sausage portions were huge and the Spicy Tuna Cocktail - chunks of tuna sashimi ans cucumber served with a spicy thai sauce - is awesome. Pro Tip: Get the shrimp and beer, and use the bread to sop up the sauce. The only downside is that the Happy Hour tapas are only available in the bar and patio area. You can order them in the dining area, but at full price. The bar area is nice, but there is little seating except for the bar. And the beer selection is rather pedestrian - your typical imports (Guinness, Newcastle, Stella, Heineken) and American large "craft" brews (Blue Moon, Sam Adams) But there are a couple of nice exceptione. They have Sagres, a nice Portuguese pale lager, on tap, and represent local craft beer with Devil's Backbone Vienna and Bold Rock Cider. I'm a bit weary to try the brunch based on the reviews, but I have generally been very happy with my visits so far, so I'll give it a shot one day. Going here for dinner has been great .. but if you are looking for a nice happy hour to unwind with some great cocktails, cold beer, and awesome food specials, that's where Columbus Grill really shines. read more

The wife and I went here last night since we bought a ton of special deal restaurant.com coupons. We're weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by how good this place was. It was very nice to find a good and reasonably priced Mediterranean (mostly Portuguese) restaurant in the area. We bought a bottle of Portada wine... only $17 and a very good red. Their wine list was very reasonably priced with some available by the glass. We started with some tapas dishes... The calamari was well breaded and had a nice taste to it. The mussels were very good and fresh and the marinara they were served in complemented perfectly. There were bits of feta cheese in there as well that really added to the flavor of the mussels when you ate them together. Lastly we got a tuna and avocado seviche which was awesome! Next we each got a bowl of soup. I got the Caldo Verde which was a potato and stock based broth with kale and Portuguese sausage. It was rather light and had good flavor. The fat of the sausage really permeated through the soup. Tasty. The wife had the Seafood Veloute which was a very nice seafood soup with a creamy lobster base... very much like a buttery lobster bisque. We each had a small Caesar salad next, and these were not really Caesar salads. They were more like garden salads with croutons, cheese and Caesar dressing. Nonetheless they were good and crisp. Finally it was time for the main courses. I got the lamb. It was four lamb chops in sauce with vegetables and roasted potatoes. I ordered medium rare and got more medium. But, even though they overcooked it a bit, the flavor was really great. It was not overly gamey and the seasonings really came through. It was rather tasty. I actually picked them up by the bone to gnaw off all of the meat from the bones. The wife got the quail in the lemon sauce which came with a brace of quail (look at me using appropriate numerical terminology...), an arugula salad and shoestring potatoes (fries). She really enjoyed the quail. We wrapped up the meal with dessert... a flan and some bread pudding. Both of them were good. Oooh! I forgot to mention the bread we got at the start of the meal. It was very dense, moist and tasty. It was good for dipping in the mussel marinara. The sweet butter they served with the bread also went well. The service was very good up until after dessert when the restaurant started filling up more and it took quite a while for our server to come back to clear our plates... and then a while again to bring our bill... and then a while again for him to return with the copy for signing. Outside of that last 15-20 minutes, the service and experience was great. And best of all was the price! A bottle of wine, bread and butter, three tapas dishes, two soups, two salads, two main courses and two desserts for just a little over $100! That's REALLY good in my book! Our party of 3 stopped by on a Friday evening to a relatively quiet restaurant. We started with an appetizer of Shrimp Santa Maria (similar to a bang bang shrimp from bonefish) and it was just so-so, The sauce was too sweet for my liking and the shrimp were a tad overcooked. My son ordered their specialty of Columbus Steak. It's (2) NY strip steaks sliced thin and served on a hot stone which seemed like a very cool concept and we were all excited for the presentation. However, we were quickly disappointed as the steak was so thin the hot stone would cook it to well done in no time at all. Once we quickly removed the stone my son said it was seasoned well and had a good flavor. I ordered the Filet a La Bordelaise which is an 8oz filet mignon sitting on top of a portabella mushroom and that is all sitting on a mound of garlic mashed potatoes covered in a mushroom gravy. All the flavors were great and was very complementary and made for a hearty meal that I struggled to finish. The filet was cooked to my exact temperature and seasoned well. My only real complaint is that I wished they used aged steaks. Aged steaks (wet or dry) provide such a more robust flavor. Lastly, my daughter ordered the kids chicken strips and fries and she seemed to enjoy them. The service was good and they do have a unique menu with a nice decor. I'll be back at some point to try some of the other interesting sounding dishes. read more

While in Manassas, I decided to check this restaurant out for a nightcap and a quick snack. Never made it past the dirty bathroom and very rude bartender. I chose not to eat since the restaurant was literally a ghost town. I least I can see the bourbon being dispensed. (Should businesses turn off most of the lights 45 minutes before closing?). No smile. No: "How was your day?" Nothing indicating a tip was wanted for the 2- double bourbon and rocks I consumed. I really have to ASK for a water refill when your place is empty? I think I have visited the Columbus Grill at the wrong time of the day. I went to dinner late, around 9:15pm. The dining room was empty, we were the only guests, however, silence was not a problem. Clearly, this is the new "hot drinking spot" in Manassas. The bar area was quite busy and dare I say a little chaotic with semi intoxicated patrons running around, even playing a little grab ass with the servers. I felt like we were in a bar. The food was a nice surprise. Since I was so annoyed with the surroundings I guess I wasn't expecting much. I enjoyed the seafood fettechini. I am a salt fan and I generally add a little sprinkle to my meals. I skipped that step with this pasta, it was salty enough! I failed to read the Yelp reviews before going... but it seems that overly salted food is a trend here. Other reviews for this place are stellar, especially since Neal E. rated it so high, so I feel like it deserves a second chance. I think I am going to skip the brunch and maybe go in for an early dinner. Perhaps I can avoid the night club atmosphere next time around. read more

Fabulous! I probably would never have tried this place if not for Neal E - so thanks! We wanted to go out and have a nice dinner tonight. I have been gone for a week, so it was a good time to spend the evening together without having to do much work making our own dinner. I suggested the Columbus Grill, and away we went. Much larger than we expected, we walked in and were seated immediately - right next to the front door. Well, someone has to sit there, and it wasn't so bad. Next time we'll ask to sit elsewhere, but it was fine. The dining area has some lovely sections, family-style dining rooms which are open on one side to the large room, but are otherwise private. Nice! They have a gorgeous floor-to-ceiling wine rack of dark wood along the far wall. There is a bar to the right with outdoor seating and apparently another dining area to the left, but I didn't see it. Our waitress was spectacular - Adrienne. She was very knowledgeable and kind. We liked her immensely. They have a tapas menu, but it's limited. About ten items, and almost exclusively seafood. Not for us - unfortunate, because we love tapas. The wine list was pretty impressive. Lots of Portuguese wines, which was nice. I ordered a vinho verde I was familiar with and Adrienne told us that winery is owned by the restaurateur's brother. Wow! My man got a beer and we set to looking over the menu. I was tempted by the bacalhau, but I wanted a version that was not on the menu, so I opted for the salmon while he got the crab cakes. We also ordered the chorico appetizer, I got the Portuguese soup and he got a dinner salad. The soup was heavenly. When I ordered it, she cautioned me to make sure I knew what I was ordering, and we let her know we had been to Portugal. She was reassured and it turned out to be absolutely delicious. The chorico was also quite good (though I have to say La Capilla's is better - sorry) and he enjoyed his salad. Oh - the bread! She brought us bread made on site and it was awesome! I should call and ask if we can buy that... Anyway, our dinners arrived and they were really good. The salmon was cooked very well, and the sauce on it was great! Salty in just the right amount, adding the perfect tang to the fish. The rice was tasty and the vegetables were quite good - however, we had been told they were cooked fresh to order with each meal. It was clear that there were freshly cooked veggies mixed with re-fired veggies on both of our plates (the color, texture and taste made that clear). But still, very tasty. My husband is very picky about crab cakes (he compares all crab cakes to Faidley's, which seems unfair), but he said these were quite good and he enjoyed them. At this point, we were both quite happy with our meals, but then she brought the dessert tray over. Wow. There were quite a few I would have tried, but I merely wanted to have a little of whatever he got, so I let him choose. He got the coconut cake. Excellent choice! We both got espresso as well. The cake was not terribly sweet, just enough to be a really good dessert. Perfect end to a wonderful meal. i would highly recommend the Columbus Grill - it was wonderful. We used Columbus Grill to cater our daughter's engagement party at our house. We had 50 guests and all I say is that everyone of them commented how wonderful the food was. The delicious appetizers were passed around by three of the smiling crew ...while the chef set up the amazing spread for our dinner buffet.....the young lady who managed the event was so beautifully in charge of the situation that all I did was enjoy our guests and our beautiful event. The event took place September,2016. These last months I have been so busy but today I resolved to sit down and write all my reviews for the businesses that so well deserve. I'll give this place 4 stars for being a decent, non-chain restaurant in Manssas...the menu is impressive and word on the street is that they roast a whole pig for their pork dishes. I had the red snapper which was a little tough I think but everyone else seemed to like their dishes. My mom certainly picked her quail clean. Nicely decorated and lots of wine. We went on a Friday night and there was a guy there singing and playing his guitar and the bar area was lively. The waitresses/bartenders seem to think they're working at Hooters though. I instantly picked out a new girl not because of the unsure look on her face but because she wasn't spilling out and covered in Snooki makeup...I'm all for some cleav but some of them just look out of place. read more

Hidden Gem In an area of town where fast food dominates the market, Columbus Grill is a breath of fresh air. The food here us absolutely first class! It's nearly impossible to enjoy fine dining without having to venture into Old Town or further, but CG has managed pull it off. Here are a few of my highlights, having been here 3 times. 1. Late night bar- flat bread Pizza. The pizza was unlike any other. A mix of Cheeses overt flat bread, with fresh veggies and a type of sausage that was not your typical papa johns or Pizza Hut, but more like you would see at upscale Italian restaurants. And the sauce was simply amazing. I rarely eat pizza with a fork and knife, but that's just what this experience called for. 2. Filet - cooked medium. Most steaks in this area call for A1, even Longhorn at times, but I never had to request it here. Perfectly pink with a hint of red, the meat was cooked to perfection with all the juices and flavor remaining. 3. Sunday Brunch. This is probably the best of CG. I have been to every Sunday brunch in Old town, including sports pub, City Square, City Tavern, and Ashton family restaurant, however, I'd have to rank CG at the top. The Highlights were raw oysters and clams ;(exquisitely garnished to add flavor without the need to add hot sauce or cocktail sauce), seasoned blue crabs, roast beef (cooked reddish pink on one side), and some exotic dishes that I could only guess are probably authentic Portuguese dishes with rice. They also have your typical American brunch items like omelets MTO, pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, along with the other normal breakfast meats. My favorite was the bacon that was cooked extra crispy to perfection without the burnt black color. Also a shout out to Catherine, my fabulous server, who made sure my first brunch here was unlike any other. Nothing over the top however not hole in the wall either. The menu is very nice with different choices available. I ordered the escargot, a lobster soup and the paella. My husband ordered Tortilla strips and chicken alfredo. The escargot was ok, nothing to rave about. The escargot sauce was lemony with a hint of basil. The lobster soup was delicious. The Tortilla strips were more like jalapeño poppers...confusing yes I know. Hubby wasn't feeling the chicken alfredo. The sauce was very soupy and bland and it really had no flavor although the pasta was cooked well. He then ordered the grilled pork chop, which he liked. The Paella Was Very good. Clams, lobster claw, shrimp and mussels filled the dish with a good amount of saffron flavoring...nothing overpowered this dish. Dessert was good. I had the berry tart and my husband had a chocolate cake. Service was attentive and kind. The sangria was delicious and my husband's margarita was strong--the way he likes it. One drawback: there was a birthday party in the private room yet the music was very loud and it kind if disturbed us a bit. Maybe they should invest in more soundproofing so they can have events like that however not disturb other customers. So a star taken off for that.
