I hate to leave a 2 star review for this place, especially after coming here since they opened years ago but be forewarned that the portions and quality has hit a new low. I ordered my go to Pho that I usually order. The price has gone up again to $13.99. Ok, I expected as much but don't skimp on quality. The garnishment of been sprouts, basil, etc was served on a teacup saucer instead of large fresh plate and would barely fill the palm of my hand. The soup broth was definitely lacking the beefy wholeness I was used to. It was full of fat chunks, stringy tripe, barely any top round and what I will call a tan mystery meat. It tasted like pork which doesn't belong in what I ordered. The Pho w ice water plus tax before tip totaled over $15!? A couple beside me ordered fried spring rolls which did not resemble anything I had ever seen. Rice paper fried on a grill. I definitely won't be returning anytime soon if at all. Omg. Found our favorite pho place. Old school Vietnamese restaurant in Tucson. It's tucked in the corner of the Lee Lee supermarket shopping center. Very easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Everyone working here is a boomer. That's a good thing. Paper towel rolls, disposable sauce cups and an array of sauces on the tables for the convenience of patrons also speaks to the efficiency of the place. Pho broth is flavorful. Not as many "goodies" in the bowl as Pho Newton but the broth is better here. Only negative is: for an old school Vietnamese pho restaurant, complimentary tea is standard. Not here. read more

I've been going to this Vietnamese Restaurant for over 5 years and it is my favorite place to get pho in Tucson! The service is great and they have a very friendly staff. I always get the same thing and it's super consistent! Their chicken/pork broth is so refreshing and I recommend getting fried garlic with your soup! We stopped in for lunch after shopping next door in the Lee Lee International Supermarket. The Vietnamese cuisine did not disappoint! Fresh and fragrant spring rolls filled with pork and shrimp and accompanied by a rich and thick peanut dipping sauce. My friend got the seafood pho, which he enjoyed - especially the calamari style rings and noodles. I got the grilled pork chop combo (#28) and really enjoyed the julienned pork and the steamed (pink) pork egg cake, which was light and flavorful. This place is mediocre at best. I was hoping it lived up to it's four star Yelp rating, but it doesn't. The menu is extensive, so I'll give them another try, but I wasn't impressed at all. So the place is tucked away in Lee Lee's Asian grocery store and there is a cooked meat market in the store where you can buy roast duck or pig. I was meeting a large group so I understand the challenges of the place, but I only saw two servers. The place has a lot of clutter, there's a fair amount of restaurant equipment on the dinning room floor. Example there's a range and an oven sitting near the back. So it's not exactly the most organized place, but it gets worse. I pick up the menu it's a little sticky OK so maybe it's just the menus, I grab the hoisin sauce it too is sticky, the siracha is sticky, so everything is sticky. I'm afraid to see the kitchen if they can't mind the minor details like this. I've been to a ton of places where it wasn't the cleanest place, but the food was phenomenal. Not the case here. The food was just meh. I ordered the egg rolls. Initially I was excited to see what appeared to be rice paper egg roll wrappers, but the egg roll filling wasn't impressive at all. The flavors of the filling weren't distinct like the better egg rolls with onion, pork, carrots, or wood ear (similar to mushrooms). I suspect they don't compress their egg rolls overnight, a trick in many Vietnamese restaurants, to make the egg roll more uniform for frying and not breaking. I was served a bowl of broth with a chunk of beef. This was new to me and I've been eating Vietnamese food as long as I can remember. It was flavorful and a nice surprise. The backbone of a good pho is the broth. This broth was thin, lacking flavors like roasted ginger, anise or spices. It was like thin beef flavored water. The noodles didn't have the texture of a fully cooked pho noodle. Not a good pho. It's meh food, bad service in a dirty place. I'll try them again to see if they can do other dishes well, but this go around, not impressed at all. read more

I didn't spend very much time here as I was on the way out of town and needed to grab something savory, satisfying and speedy! I wanted a fresh shrimp spring roll. I walked in and was greeted by who I assume was an owner. She was a well dressed, distinguished matriarch and I was seated and served my spring roll by an older gentlemen who seemed to be proud of his food. The spring roll order came out quickly and for $7 I thought the serving was ample. The rice paper was moist and not hard meaning that this was freshly made. The flavors of the herbs inside brought a smile to my face and an even bigger feeling of satisfaction to my stomach. When in Tucson I'll visit here again. read more

Two thumbs up for Com Tam! Located adjacent to Lee Lees, it's a great place to stop by for lunch after shopping. 5 stars for the food. The vegetable pho was surprisingly good. Probably the best in town. The broth and veggies were just so full of flavor. I also had the shrimp summer rolls which were great. The greens, mint, and green onion were a nice touch. The peanut sauce was a touch sweet but I ate it all, so must have been pretty good. Regarding the environment, it's your typical mom and pop Asian restaurant. The service is friendly but inattentive. There are also random pieces of large equipment laying around and the cashiers desk looks like a storage area... but if that doesn't bother you, then you won't be disappointed. The soups are very good. That is all I have tasted. On my second visit, they gave me the wrong soup and when I tried to tell the waiter he yelled at me for not telling him sooner. The next time I came, I tried to verify that they got the order correct and the server yelled at me for asking. The server at the next table would not assist me when I was curious about what the next table had ordered. Overall the service was terrible. I had an awful experience. I have ordered pho before and it wasn't the best I had but it was the closest place to my home so I defaulted here. I have ordered to go prior. They are fair in their portion of meat and veggies. However my experience last night will not allow me to return. This was my experience with two employees. The owner I'm guessing has morals and did apologize but the way 2 of the front end people handled this situation is the type of character that small business needs to handle better or they get this type of scathing review. I ordered my pho to go at 625PM, my son had a baseball game so I told them it will prob be about 20 min or so until we pick up. Well it ended up being 35 min, I arrived at 7. I paid for my order and the cashier took my payment and handed me the bottom of an order receipt. I waited for 40 min, asking periodically to see where my order is. She said it was coming. Well 740 came and nothing. I asked the cashier and another woman where my order was and they said they don't have any record of it if I don't have the bottom of the order receipt. I gave them the bottom and they said I must have already picked it up they don't have any order. As in I picked up my order took it home and came back a second time to get the same order twice!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS???? The cashier person looked right at me and said she didn't recall taking payment. I went into the receipt catcher and pulled it out, went into my online banking to show it was charged and still they wouldn't refund or get me what I ordered saying I never paid or already picked up. Finally the owner came out and took care of it and said they would get my order ready I said no thanks I will not give this business a penny and wanted a refund. Which she did because I had paid and received nothing. At least she had some morals and a glimmer of customer service. I said I also want the woman who accused me of stealing food ie taking my pick up order and coming back for a second time, or not paying at all to come out and apologize. She came out and was as nasty as it gets and said If I was wrong the heavens will judge me. I said if that's how you want to handle your business I would be ashamed and embarrassed. She was clearly in the wrong and was confronted and still couldn't say she was sorry. Have you ever heard of a business accusing their paying customer of this?? What a disgrace. And they lost 2 customers that night because the woman behind me also left because of terrible service. The front end cashier had the $20 in her hand and the woman behind me was disgusted for another reason and grabbed her $20 and left!!!! read more

We go once in a while when we need our pho fix. The soup is always more than enough to share and we always get fried rice or pan fried noodle. This time we went inside Lee Lees & ordered siomai and they let me eat it there. They are always pretty busy but service is pretty quick. There is always plenty of parking outside. I was excited to try this out. The reviews looked good. First problem was the service. The server dropped off the menus and did not come for 10 minutes. I finally stood up so they could not overlook me. She finally came and took my order and seemed very put out. I figured at least I go my order it. The food came and the spring rolls were pretty good, but it was the weirdest flavor in the peanut sauce, almost tasted burned. When the entree got there, it was boring and tasteless. The food at Com Tam Thuan Kieu is always excellent. This place is conveniently located in a plaza with Lee Lee's market for groceries so I always shop at the market after I eat! I've had the broken rice and porkchop dish here, the pho dac biet, and vermicelli bowls here. Everything has tasted amazing here and I love the portions here. The only complaint I have is that the people running this restaurant are stingy with the vegetables that come with the dishes. They wanted to charge me $2.00 for an extra small side of veggies. I also love their dessert: che ba mau. It's a traditional Vietnamese dessert that is made with pandan jelly, red beans, mung beans, condensed milk, and shaved ice. For my latest visit, I decided to try #87-banh hoi: this is a variation on the vermicelli dish where the noodles are drier and topped with green onions. This dish comes with a side of lettuce, pickled carrots, cucumber and fish sauce. Traditionally, this dish is eaten by wrapping the banh hoi, protein (#87 comes with grilled shrimp and grilled pork), cucumber and carrots, all inside the lettuce and dipping it into the fish sauce. It's flavorful with the taste of the grilled protein, with the freshness of the vegetables, and then the strong but sweet taste of fish sauce. Overall, the food here is delicious, fairly priced, and well portioned. read more

It is a spacious area and I was happy to find that they were adhering to COVID rules by social distancing the tables. They have a true Vietnamese menu and everything we consumed was delicious! My nephew had the short ribs noodle bowl and his kids had the beef in fried noodles and the other had a different short rib dish on white rice. I had the traditional Pho with the tendons (no, I didn't tell my relatives what I was eating). The portions were enormous. My nephew's family are not very adventurous when it came to most foods. They did love this! Notables: when you paid for your meal, you paid at the counter. The restrooms are part of the supermarket storefront and could be cleaner. My husband and I come here frequently. I get my meal over greens no noodles and he gets a seafood soup. We brought our family of 6 and it was a lot of fun. Their egg rolls and spring rolls are good. Everyone ordered various soups with egg noodles. Other reviewers here have complained about the price differences...have they been to a McDonald's lately? Surprisingly delicious Vietnamese fare for Tucson! On my first visit I ordered the Bun noodle bowl with grilled pork and crispy pork egg roll (#69). Delicious rendition of this dish - it's one of my favorite Vietnamese items. I would have preferred a bit stronger of a nuoc cham sauce and also slightly firmer rice noodles, beyond that it was absolutely delicious. The second visit I ordered the crispy rice flour crepe with sliced pork and shrimp (#10). It was very good, but I found the lettuce leaves to be on the wet side and paired with the weaker nuoc cham it was a little watered down (excuse the pun). The flour crepe was perfectly crispy, but a tiny bit too greasy for me. I also ordered two crispy shrimp egg rolls - but found the weren't as flavorful as their pork ones I had the day before (still delicious though!). They had a price increase recently because of inflation but I still think it is worth it to go a couple times a month. Be very careful of this restaurant, especially if you are picking up to go. If you decide not to tip (for walking the bag from the kitchen to the register) beware that they may decide to tip themselves. When I got my credit card statement, they had "conveniently" decided to round up so as to receive a tip. When I called them on it they claimed that I had to physically come into their store with my physical credit card AND the physical receipt. They expected me to do all the footwork for their mistake? I have been here once or twice and have always come back when I'm in the area. Great service, clean tables, and very patience when waiting for my order. Even asked if I wanted anything to drink and how long I would be waiting for my food. Absolutely caring for their customer and truly authentic Vietnamese food! Restaurant in the grocery store made it so much more convenient for me since I'm always shopping for things, and Vietnamese food really hit the spot. I love this place! This is a staple pho spot for our post workout meal! It's legit a viet spot! (Being born and raised on the East coast with a viet ethnicity - I've tried all of the best. The East coast has more diversity than Tucson)... This is the best place for Vietnamese food in Tucson! From service to taste! Really great vietnamese food. I ordered the vermicelli noodle bowl with beef strips and shrimp eggroll, on top of lettuce, mint, cucumber, bean sprots, peanuts, & scallions. The presentation was beautiful, and I couldn't wait to dig in. The eggroll was crispy and the beef was well seasoned. They also provided a side of fish sauce, which I recommend drizzling over before mixing. I believe this is a family run business, and it was very authentic food. read more
