The service was great. I also enjoyed their extensive tequila and mezcal menu. The only downside is the parking -- it's pretty small and shared with Lou Malnati's next door!

Waiting for the brick and mortar to reopen hasn't been too bad since I can still come here and get everything that makes for a fantastic experience. I'm f you've never been you should go and if you've been, but not to the truck, give it a try. I think you'll be as happy as I am that I came by. Enjoy!

We tried quite a bit of food, but somehow didn't leave feeling heavy or overly full, which honestly says a lot about how fresh everything is and how it's prepared. It's definitely not fancy design-wise, at least not yet. It looks like they may still be finishing or building out the new restaurant. But that really didn't matter once the food came out. Fresh ingredients, great flavors, and the whole meal felt like getting a little taste of Mexico right here in Arizona. We'll definitely be back

I got the empanadas which were out of this world, I'm not sure how they make them but they are pretty addicting. I can see why they're so popular. They'll also validate parking at the garage. We came for dinner before a show at the Mortgage Matchup Arena (which is just a quick 0.5 mile walk over). Happened to hit happy hour, which was just a few dollar savings, but nice. We tried the following: -Empanada Pabellon with Pernil: loved the plantains inside mixed the pork! -Empanada Colombiana Beef: good -Pollo and mango tostones: the tostones itself were a bit tough to chew on -Ceviche mixto: I've never had fried calamari with ceviche but it was nice and refreshing mixed with it! -Piña Tiradito: presentation was lovely and tasted just as great! I can never taste the fruit or make out the flavors for ciders and I'm a sucker for anything guava so was excited for the Sazon guava hibiscus cider, and while it was nice, sadly couldn't make out the flavors. Overall, cute space with bites to share and we'll be back as the burritos sounded good as well.

Their drink menu has some classics like margaritas and old fashioneds, as well as specials that are pretty unique and have some unique flavor combos. I had the Mango y Chile and my friend got the Mojavito. We started with chips and salsa and got both salsas. I enjoyed both but the green salsa was to die for and I wanted to put it on everything! I ordered the blue crab enchiladas and cannot recommend them enough. There was a ton of crab and the cheese ratio was perfect. The beans and rice and toppings were all complimentary of the enchiladas. My friend got the birria flautas and brussel sprouts. I did not taste them but he said they were really good. My only complaint is that our server was not super attentive. She checked on us when our food came but never came back to see if we wanted another drink or to refill our water. It looked like she was helping make drinks for the well, but she ignored our side of the bar for the most part. No biggie, but just wanted to make note of it. I will absolutely come back here and try their other menu items, along with a few appetizers.

Extremely disappointing experience…read more We went to Chico Malo for happy hour and ordered several items directly from the happy-hour menu. The photo I've attached was actually taken during our visit because I was planning on doing a review of their happy-hour items, so I happened to have a picture of the menu showing exactly what we were looking at. For our last item, I pointed directly to the "Chicharron de Ribeye" on the happy-hour menu, which is clearly listed at $12. I told our server that I didn't know how to pronounce the name, pointed to the item, and she confirmed the order. We ate our food, and when the check came, I noticed we had been charged $60 for a ribeye. I immediately explained that I had ordered from the happy-hour menu and specifically pointed to the $12 Chicharron de Ribeye. The server brought the happy-hour menu over and insisted that wasn't what I ordered and that I had ordered the regular ribeye. This was incredibly frustrating because I literally pointed to the $12 item on the menu when ordering. We had already ordered multiple things from happy hour, so why would I suddenly order a $60 entrée without being told that was what I was ordering? The biggest issue wasn't even the misunderstanding -- it was how it was handled afterward. Rather than acknowledging the obvious confusion and trying to find a reasonable solution, we were told there was nothing they could do and were left paying $60 for something we never intended to order. And honestly, the food wasn't impressive enough to make us want to come back anyway. If you're in the area, I'd honestly recommend going to Blanco around the corner instead. The food and overall experience are much better, and I'd rather spend my money there. After this experience, we definitely won't be making the drive back to Chico Malo. Save yourself the money and go to Blanco instead

We both tried two different things on the menu to share and glad we did, both Krispy Chicken Torta and Cuba Torta was amazing! Fried chicken was perfectly crispy throughout the whole sandwich! We enjoyed our visit, service was a bit slow, not sure if they were understaffed, it was well over an hour, nearly 2hrs in by time we were done. Place is more spacious than the Gilbert, upstairs looked spacious. Not sure if it's common for them to have birds flying around inside but didn't like the potential idea of it pooping and landing into guests food or beverages, or even on someone in general, seemed by the employees reaction, it wasn't concerning leading me to believe it's often.

Dos Gordos scratched that itch for me, and it's only a hop, skip, and a jump away from my home. South Phoenix and Laveen don't have a ton of great casual dining options, but this small business is a great place to grab a bite. Situated in a strip mall, this restaurant in a corner unit has a cool layout and a fun interior. It reflects the owners' love for Mexican culture. There are lots of seats inside, and a great little patio for when the weather is nice. They have a solid menu with enough variety to satisfy all your cravings. Their carne asada breakfast plate is an all-time favorite for me, but this last time was a budget trip, as mentioned before. I had a couple $5 margs that hit the spot and stimulated my appetite. I opted for the hard shell tacos. They weren't actually fried, which was a bummer, but were they good? After two margaritas, YES. (And probably after zero margs.) My dining mate opted for nachos and they were delicious. I was particularly impressed that they didn't skimp on the toppings at all. They were loaded and super affordable. The service is always great here, and the value makes it worth it. If you're thinking about stopping in, I encourage you to give them a try.
