    Shaved Kale Salad

The Mission is a lovely place to have lunch or dinner. We have eaten on the back patio and inside. Although inside the lighting is so dark that even my 2 1/2 yo granddaughter wasn't happy until her eyes adjusted. I thought it was just my old eyes but no. I love love their guacamole made at table side for you. That is must have. Their salsa is also very good. I just had the kale salad again after a hiatus and I must say it is as delicious as I remember it! I added the two large shrimp. You might think that $16 for two wild large shrimp might be a bit extravagant but they are huge and tasty. Our waitress was wonderful. I just wish it weren't quite so dark inside.

We went to this hip restaurant in Old Town last night. The playlist was amazing with songs from 1982 through at least 2018. Our server Christian was extremely attentive and polite and did a great job. One of the walls inside is made up of Himalayan sea salt bricks which radiates light from the kitchen and is pretty amazing. I want one. We ordered the table side guacamole which was great and a generous portion. For entrees, skirt steak tacos with white bean purée, and mahi tacos with mission fries. All very good. If you like tequila, the cucumber jalapeño margarita is refreshing. Very well done and bravo Christian.

Ambiance..really nice..but we had to sit outside and it was warm. Kind of disappointed thet they couldn't accommodate us inside even though we had reservations Food..loved the fresh guacamole and grilled corn and tostados..so many good flavors. The fresh corn tortillas came on a Himalayan salt and that was interesting. The cheesy rice was good. They didnt have a changing table in the bathroom either...so not right.

Modern Latin cuisine at its finest! Love this spot in Phoenix as it was highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Love the dark mysterious upscale chill vibe. Service was perfect and our waitress was professional and attentive. Food came out timely and was amazing. Wanted to try the braise beef taco but they were sold out that evening but the mahi mahi taco was the best I've ever had. The mahi mahi was super tender and flaky. Perfect combination with every bite. Didn't expect much with the flat Iron steak but boy was I wrong. Perfectly tender and cooked to perfection. The appetizer crispy pork was good as it was a different take on a lettuce wrap but amazingly better with the amazing finger licking cola lime glaze!

This place exceeded my expectations in the best way. The cocktails were divine and fresh, the grilled corn, guacamole, and salsa tasted fantastic, and we loved the Mother's Day cocktail special Thanks to our bartender Brian who made everything just how we like it. Absolutely will be back.

This was an exceptional meal - maybe some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Everything was incredible - the food was all fresh, bursting with flavor, and delicious. The chicken taco was to die for - but everything was just amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful - it's an upscale elegant spot with intimate dim lighting, but it doesn't feel stuffy. The service was also incredible - the servers and staff were so lovely and made us feel very welcome. This was a brilliant meal, and I would 100% recommend this spot - it was the perfect way to end my time in Arizona. I will definitely return again if I ever come back to Arizona!

This was such a great find for a nice dinner with upscale casual vibes and delicious food. They have ample space both indoors and on their patio. Our server was very friendly and kept checking in on us. Since I was do in with a vegetarian friend, we opted to get a lot of vegetarian dishes to share. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of vegetarian options that tasted incredible! To start we got the chips & salsa (on the house) and the table side guacamole. When I tell you, this was the best guacamole we have ever had believe me. A chef rolled out a cart with all their ingredients and asked us what spice level we prefer. We went with the mild option and he made our guacamole fresh with all the ingredients tableside the guacamole had a strong taste of lime, which tasted really good. Then we got some Gorditas, which had an interesting creamy flavour. It had your traditional corn gordita, but it also had a drizzle of balsamic which was an interesting mix. Tasted delicious regardless. We also got a couple taco types to share both vegetarian. One was a butternut squash, and the other was brussels sprouts. No I'm not a huge fan of vegetarian tacos, but I will say these were done really well. When we were replacing our order, our server told us that we have ordered really well. And boy was he right because we had lots of leftovers but no regrets because we wanted to taste everything and everything taste delicious. We ended the night with coffee and a pumpkin bread pudding. This was not our favorite. It was on the sweet side, but the coffee combination with the sweet bread pudding tasted OK. Will likely go for the churros next time. We were sat on the patio vibes were amazing. There was a nice breeze. There is a free parking lot right across the street. Our total came to just under $90 before tip, which was very surprising given it was a fancy place and the food was delicious! We will definitely be back!! thank you for the food and a great night!!

Chorizo porchetta and beans. Delicious! I would return for this dish. I highly recommend La Mission.

The food was truly outstanding and we enjoyed every bite. The chef is creative and the dishes are innovative. I loved the chorizo porchetta. The service was attentive and we liked our server. She had good suggestions and was knowledgeable. The ambiance is hip and noisy with tables close together. I was surprised to see children but happy that they accommodated our request not to be seated next to a table with three kids. It just doesn't seem like a kid place at all.

First time at this restaurant based on reviews. Cute establishment with very dark lighting. Very crowded and kind of loud. Service was efficient, and friendly. Complementary chips and salsa. Chips were good, but very salty. We did the tableside guacamole, which was amazing. One of us had the shredded beef tacos, one of us had the mahi-mahi tacos and two others shared the Carnita tacos. All of them were tasty. They sauce on the pork was different... Kind of a barbecue sauce. Pork was incredibly tender. There was a side order of black bean purée that was enjoyed.

We had an excellent lunch on the back patio. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos and my husband had the shrimp tacos but we switched because the shrimp tacos were too spicy for him. Both were good, but the Mahi Mahi tacos had a better flavor. For dessert, we had the pumpkin bread pudding which was excellent! Service was friendly and we got our food quickly. The patio area was shady and pleasant.

The Mission is a MUST EAT SPOT if you're visiting Scottsdale! I got recommended by so many people to eat here and I'm a huge guacamole/taco lover so I obviously HAD to make it over here. I sat outside on a sunny afternoon and it was just delightful. The service was so quick and everyone was so kind. I ordered the tabelside guacamole (mild because I can't do spicy), the Tecate Skirt Steak tacos and a side of the Oaxacan Cheesy Rice. Every single item had me drooling for more!! The guacamole was unique in that it is made tableside and includes hass avocado, jalapeño, red onion, fresh serrano, garlic, sea salt, lime, tomatoes, chipotle puree, cilantro, cotija, & toasted pepitas. I was obsessed with this guacamole and wish I could have taken it home with me. The tacos were to die for honestly. The steak was so freshly cooked, soft, and tender. There order came with 3 tacos and they consisted of morita salsa, avocado, lime, cilantro, & cotija. Perfect mix of items for tacos. The cheesy rice was absolutely incredible. It had jalapeño, corn, soy, & lime. It was so yummy. Such a wonderful experience here at Mission! PS: do yourself a favor and visit the church next door after you finish your meal!

The food was great upscale Mexican with a twist. Hand pressed tortillas flavorful salsas. The smell of carbon mesquite filled the back patio. The ambiance was bright patios and club dark in the dining rooms. Service was friendly and efficient. Hot spot in the old town area.

My golf buddy and I took a day trip to Scottsdale and we were excited to find the Mission for our lunch. Beautiful space. We were seated right away in the back room patio. We decided to get the table side guacamole and it really lived up to the hype. So fresh and delicious. I will try to replicate at home but there were so many ingredients. It's worth having them just make it! I was disappointed in the grilled street corn. There wasn't much flavor or grill marks. I wondered if it was frozen. The pork shoulder tacos were a little sweet for my taste but it was a healthy portion for my friend and I to share. We asked for flour tortilla and they only brought 2 vs the 3 corn tortilla. The waiter would disappear for a long time and there were only 3 tables seated in our back room. The rest of the restaurant was empty. I'd like to give this place another try, mostly for their guacamole. But I'd try some other choices.

Do I need to make a reservations for two?

I would suggest it, especially for busier days and times but you're able to walk-in as well, just might encounter a wait.

    Is there outdoor seating?

Yes! There is an awesome smaller covered patio in the front with a fireplace and also a larger covered patio in the back. Get a table on the front patio if possible:)

Do servers wear masks still? Visiting Scottsdale but feel uncomfortable in restaurants where staff is not wearing face masks. :/

They were last time I was there, but that was almost a month ago. Call them and ask. Their information is much more accurate and up to date than any Yelper can give you.

Are sandals with nice jeans and button shirt appropriate?

Yes that is the perfect attire! I've even go as far to say that bringing a coat (hopefully not needing to use it) wouldn't be a bad idea for this :)

How is the fried chicken torta?

    Yes it's causal attire

    What's the dress code here?

Casual, fun. I would not overdue it. No jacket but no cutoffs. Jeans are ok but dress them up a bit. No club attire.needed! It can be warm in there because it's a small space. Have fun!!

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.
