Avoid Comenity Bank at all costs. Many retailers use this bank to handle their credit cards. I signed up for a Venus card not realizing that Comenity Bank would be the bank holder. I paid my for my purchase online within 2 weeks of the purchase as I did not want any added fees. 4 weeks later I received an email that I had a balance. I checked my own bank account to see if the money had cleared, it had not so I immediately called and they could not tell me why It did not clear. I went online through my own bank and then paid again and closed the account because I was upset that my first payment did not clear. I closed the account and paid my balance in full. One and a half weeks later I received another balance from Comenity Bank. They are charging me for the payment that did not clear even though they could not tell me why it didn't clear. My bank account had the money in it. The cost of the fee is more than half of my original bill. I am now contacting the retailer Venus and the Better Business Bureau. Comenity Bank is a leech and suggest that you find a different bank to do business with. read more

Call at unreasonable hours. I'm closing all my accounts. Worst customer service ever.

Absolutely terrible experience. Very rude customer service and highly unethical lending practices. A very fee driven business with an "I don't care about you attitude". Customer service will leave you frustrated. Harassing and threatening voicemails left on multiple occasions. Very very rude. read more

I have been affected by family losses, family illnesses, and now covid-19 has put me out of work. I contacted the Bank to explain the situation and see what I could do about having everything deferred for a period of time. Instead, they offer me a payment plan. Remember, I am currently laid off and have not started receiving unemployment and do not know when that will be coming. The person handling my situation was very blase and nonchalant about the whole situation and pretty much told me I was screwed. So I didn't take any of the options because I can't promise to pay something when I have no money. I have been a customer of theirs for at least 7 years and I've had a rough year. One rough year and they will not help me in any form or fashion. My other credit card companies are helping me. My cell phone provider is helping me. But Comenity Bank won't help me. Good luck to the rest of you. Once I have paid off this card, I will never EVER apply for a credit card for a storefront that works with Comenity Bank. Never. And I recommend everyone else do the same. read more

My husband opened this account to have an emergency dental procedure done. After a month or so, I paid the account in full. I was, however a few days late as I was recovering from a knee fracture and my mother-in-law was in hospice care for about a week before passing away. I explained these issues and asked if I could get a break on the late fee. I was VERY rudely told it couldn't be done. However, we weren't billed. I thought it was taken care of. WRONG. In October, I got hit with 2 months of late fees PLUS a penalty on the first month's fee. The late fee is supposedly $27 a month, but my total was SIXTY-SEVEN dollars! That's a $13 penalty folks!! OK, paid that and was told we had a zero balance and the account would be closed. Wrong AGAIN! Today, I had a bill for 2 months late fees and interest again. I called, and this time they DID remove one month. But, to charge late fees ON the late fees, and only bill every other month so I get hit harder? AFTER I paid the account in full in August and explained hardship? I worked for banks for over 35 years, and I know the way they are doing the late fees is both unethical and illegal, and I plan to pursue it. read more

Comenity is the credit card company for Pottery Barn. They are deceptive and I believe criminal in their actions.. We ordered some furniture from Pottery Barn in November of 2018 and then when they were unable to deliver it for some time we cancelled the order. I must add we had paperless Comenity Statements. In January they sent us a notice of late payment. So in late January 2019. I immediately called the credit card company after receiving the late notice and they were great. I explained the situation and they called Pottery Barn and then they credited the purchase of $1500.00 along with ALL the interest and late fees. Then when I looked at the February statement I had an interest charge of $32.21 on a balance of $177.86 plus the $32.21. I was extremely busy so I sent them $300.00 knowing I would deal with this issue when I had time. Finally in May I spent some time to call them and explain the situation and that there was no way there should be a $32.21 charge in interest on a $177.86 balance. They said they would put in a dispute and get back to me. Today I called them and was on the phone for over an hour speaking to one employee and then her supervisor. Speaking to the employee today she claims that the interest rate is 28.99% EVERY MONTH! I told her she was incorrect and that would be illegal. She stood by that ridiculous statement. I asked to be transferred to her supervisor, which I was. He explained to me they were charging me interest on the revolving balance on the returned items because the return credit was not posted until late in January. My point is they admitted the charge and interest was not valid and that is why it was all refunded in January, interest, late fee and purchase price. They do that and then charge the interest the next month AFTER the money was refunded because I had a balance of $177.86 which triggered the revolving balance interest. Remember the first person told me 28.99% of 177.86 was the $32.21. Poor math for someone working for a bank. However, here's the real kicker, the supervisor said "you already paid it so there is nothing we can do" I did explain that I had been busy and paid it to buy me some time to get to a point where I had time to deal with trying to recoup my lousy 32 dollars. IT'S CRIMINAL. They should train their people better and they should take better care of their customers. So for $32.00 dollars I will spend any free time I have and find forums to post my experience. I hope it was worth it for them and I hope you all take notice and boycott Comenity and Pottery Barn for their association with Commenity. Please also notice complaints flow into this site almost daily about them. I have a number of cards and never have issues with anyone else. Please avoid them. read more

If I could give then zero stars I most certainly wold. This company not only lies, but uses discriminatory practices when deeming credit worthiness. I contacted them about being denied for a Full Beauty card to inquire as to why one of the reason stated was no record of ATTENDANCE of 4 year education program. Well, at first I thought there were talking about student longs, which I never had any. But upon looking closer I did see the word attendance. I have been to school, indeed I have an Associates degree. So I couldn't figure what in the heck they were talking about. Upon calling them they directed me to Experian and Equifax for further information. Having dealt with credit reports during my past employments I knew I'd never seen a credit report reference any client's educational history. But, instead of arguing I went ahead and called both credit agencies. Both confirmed that they do not report educational history. When I called back to inquire why they shifted the responsibility to the credit reporting agencies and flat out lied. I never got a straight answer. I pointed out to them that this is an unfair and discriminatory practice, as there are lots of people both famous and not famous who have not finished high school but are able to take care of all their financial obligations. Then on the flip side, there are people who have Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees that have delinquencies. Seeming untouched by this she goes into a spill, all the while trying to talk down to me like I don't know what a credit card is and have no understanding of them, the lending process... etc, about people being able to pay back their credit obligations and that being one of the things they look at. I swear, I had an out of body/character experience. I informed her that I've worked for more than one international bank and at one time had several credit cards, which I decided to close. I am fully aware what a card its, what is deemed as credit worthiness and I've NEVER been ask about my educational background by ANY other lender. Whether it be for a store card, mortgage or general purpose credit card, personal loan, car loan, small business loan, secured or unsecured loan I've never heard of such a practice. Indeed, I never asked any of the thousands of clients who's credit applications I processed anything about their educational background. In closing it's not the fact that they turned me down for the card, as they certainly did me a favor by doing so. Upon reading some of the posts here and other places about them, I can only imagine the nightmare which would have ensued had I been approved. It's the fact that they engage in unethical practices, just flat out lie to you, shift blame and then have the nerve to talk down to you when you call them out on their antics. !!!!RUNNNN PEOPLE, DON'T WALK, IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!!! read more

The worst customer experience EVER. Had a DISPUTE that lasted 9 months and comenity bank never wanted to resolve the issue. Comenity bank even canceled a dispute and said we cancelled the dispute which is completely false. I had a credit card for Christopher and Banks through Comenity. I agreed to paperless billing but for some reason I was not receiving their statements through my email account. Recently, I got online to pay my $80.00 bill and found out I had racked up 2 late fees. Since I work 10 hour days 6 days a week its not surprising that I forgot to pay the bill. I own it - my fault. But when I called to ask if they would consider taking one of the late fees off, the representative just talked over me, louder and louder. She told me that she had called me because my account was overdue. I told her that I had made the call and asked if she could just take a breath and listen to me. Nope - she just kept demanding full payment that was up around $150.00 by now. I finally paid it off and asked them to close my account. A month later I checked my FICO score and found that they had made a report and my "excellent" credit is now just "good"! I will never have another credit card associated with Comenity Bank. read more

I wish I would've read the reviews about this bank before I decided to get a Victoria's Secret card. This is the WORST experience I've EVER had with a credit card or bank. They've done nothing to notify me of a $8.72 balance owed 5 months ago, and continued to charge me late fee's and service charges after multiple attempts to clear up this charge (I called every month) So at the end of January I called yet again, got the late fees taken off, paid the remaining $8.72 balance (which by the way was shipping fees remaining after returning an online purchase) and I closed the account at that time. I just got a notification, finally they're sending me email statements, that there's a $41 balance!!! Posted 5 days before I made that last call and paid/closed my account. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN??? I was on the phone with their rep on the 23rd, paid the total balance and closed my acct, and they backdated and posted another late fee on the 18th?? If I could give these A**HOLES a negative 5 stars I would. Do your research before getting store credit cards, the interest is ridiculous and they screw you!! WATCH OUT!! By the way, the online purchase and return was the only transaction I ever had on this card. I never even got to earn points toward VS merch, which is the ONLY reason I got the card!!!!!! read more

This is the absolute worst! I made a payment plan with them so my account wouldn't close and they instead of calling me to let me know there was any issue with payment cause there shouldn't have been (I had the funds in my account and they took out for another account I have with them) they decided without notification to close my account! Did not even call to warn me that there was any issue in the first place! I get a call from someone that works with them and I have to hear it from them that my account was closed for non payment and that I have 6mo to pay my account of face legal action! They harassed myself and family members with phone calls for missing payments in the past like 20 times a day til i gave them a payment, but can't let you know when there is a problem after I tried to fix after the fact! I was perfect with them til recently cause of some personal issues and they assured me that it was not going to be an issue and I wouldn't have to worry about the account being closed. If I could give them a zero I would! Once I have my open account cleared I am closing the account myself and NEVER doing business with them again! read more

I'm a Licensed Financial Adviser and deal with this bank almost everyday. I usually negotiate payment arrangements for my customers with lower interest rates and minimum payments. If you want to know about it just email me at thalysucart@icloud.com and I'll send you a proposal. We call the bank together and apply the rates over the phone, you receive a letter in the mail in 7-10 business days with your new terms an conditions. read more

I have a Dental First financing through Comenity Bank. DONT EVER deal with this company! They will gladly charge you a huge finance charge (hundreds ..mine was $603!) if you don't have it payed off by the 18 month payment date even if you have paid diligently on time every month. THey will not notify you via email nor phone call to let you know this is going to happen. When I called and spoke to LeRoy..the account manager for Dental First, he said, Well it's there on page 3!" He refused to adjust my account or do anything to alleviate this financial burden. They are getting away with robbery. read more

Comenity handles the card account for Zales and I have had nothing but problems with them. My husband is deployed and every other account of his was notified of SCRA as his active duty status was reported on his credit EXCEPT Comenity. Stupidly, I did not nag him to set up a automatic payment with them or have me added as an authorized third party since I was facing him being gone for an entire year and had bigger concerns. We missed several payments and now that I am aware of this issue I get nothing but the run around when trying to submit his Title 10 orders. I faxed them, then called to check the status, couldn't do that since I'm not authorized on the account. I log in to his online center and get nothing but circles when trying to talk to them there. He has no access to call these people what with being in the Middle East and I am getting no where with this process. This is by far the worst banking experience and I would highly recommend that you avoid this bank at any and all costs since they have no respect for our service members. read more

I carry Debt Cancellation Coverage on my credit accounts to cover my balance in case of a medical emergency. I experienced a medical emergency and attempted to file a Debt Cancellation claim only to find out that Commenity Bank had cancelled my coverage with the third party vendor without notifying me. Therefore, I had no coverage when the medical event took place. Conversations with Commenity Bank customer service representatives resulted in their agents yelling at me that Commenty could not cancel the coverage and later that they had every right to cancel the coverage. Needless to say, Commenity Bank has put me in a horrible position that will have long-term negative repercussions on my credit. read more

Comenity honestly doesn't even deserve 1 star. Comenity Bank is a scam. I had a plan with them from my purchase from Kay Jewelers and I never once missed a payment for that purchase. I paid everything exactly how it was explained to me and followed the guidelines as I was supposed to. I then find out after the entire thing has been paid off that I paid my last payment 10 days late because that's when the autopay lands compared the the end of the plan. They intentionally set up their plans to end BEFORE the due date so you accrue interest. How messed up is that? They intentionally set you up and don't tell you the details to push you into a position of debt. I am baffled how this legal. This is a scam. This is setting good people up to fail. This company is what you think of when you talk about the slimy people of this world. To add to that their customer service is told about all of this stuff and supports it! They tell you they can't do anything about it and get angry with you. I was SUPER nice on the phone because I knew it wasn't their fault I was in this situation. The company they work for is just crappy right? Well it definitely seems they aren't any better! Nobody wanted to help me, nobody wanted to understand. Why I continue to be nice even though everyone involved with this company is trying to scam me I will never know. I highly recommend staying away from the name Comenity! If you don't have a choice BE CAREFUL. Read through everything thoroughly and make sure you don't make the same mistake I did! You have been warned! Not by Comenity because they give you absolutely no notification of this happening! read more

There should be an opportunity to give negative stars. I have never been late with a payment or have I ever missed a payment, their "customer appreciation" is that at the end of August my interest rate is going to go up to 27.5%. I called to cancel/close my account because Kay Jewelers isn't worth that rate. If enough customers were to close their credit cards accounts that a being "serviced" by Comenity, then just maybe the retailers that use them to handle their credit services will "fire" this greedy company. read more

I had a credit card through Comenity for a medical procedure. I paid my account off in full on August 8,2019. In September, they charged me $23.13. I emailed to simply ask what the charge was. I was told that it was an error and would be refunded to my account in full (resulting me back to a $0 balance). This did not happen. I emailed several more times and had to eventually call them in early November and speak to 3 different people, up to a manager. After all this, they explained that the charge actually was not a mistake, it was the interest accrued from the time I was billed in August, until I paid it off later that month. However, the manager said that since I was told it would be refunded, they would honor it. I was very clear with the manager and asked if I would continue to be charged, and she told me no. I would have a $0 balance and there would be no additional charges. By this point, with additional interest and late charges, there was an additional $27.13. It was finally refunded on November 8 and I was back to a $0 balance. Then on November 24, I was charged a $2 "minimum finance charge" again. I started again emailing them and after several emails back and forth, they keep telling me that since I had a charge on my account October, that there is a minimum finance charge. No matter how many ways I explain to them that the charges were incorrect and refunded, and that I should have had a $0 balance, and for them to read the notes on my file, they continue to charge me. I have now filed formal complaints with the BBB, CFPB, and the Federal Reserve on them. read more

Catherines help "oh well" I will be blogging about this and probably going to the State Attorney's Office, you take my money in a NY minute, but I can't get it back because it sometimes takes 90 days to process. Wow! I have (had) a Venus Credit Card (which I will NEVER USE AGAIN!) I am never late on my payments but enrolled in paperless statements (first mistake). I never saw the statement in email and was late on my payment by two days. Without question I paid the late fee. Then in the next billing cycle they hit me with interest and a penalty of about a total of $3.00 which I also did not receive notice of so then I was hit with an additional late fee of $27!! When I realized what happened I called to ask if they would consider removing the second late fee. I have never ever had such a difficult experience with a credit card company/bank. Other reputable credit card companies consider your payment history (usually mine is excellent) and will work with you to a satisfactory conclusion. Apparently, Comenity Bank needs my $27 so badly that they would not even consider it. The representative would not let me speak to a supervisor. I told her I would likely never use the card or any Comenity card ever again. Finally, they offered up $15, only after wasting more than that in the value of my time that it took to argue with this representative. I will tell everyone I know to beware of Comenity Bank Credit Cards. I'll never use the Venus Card again. I will stay with reputable banks that allow automatic payments to post. I believe they engage in shady business dealings surrounding the late fees. . .not on the up and up. . . steer clear of Credit Cards with Comenity. read more

I opened this account in October 2016 for a surgery I had to have. And recently started getting calls and saw on Credit Karma I have a 30 day late, which I thought was weird being I just opened this in Oct and have paid Nov, Dec, and Jan. So I called and was told even though I opened the account in Oct I was billed in Oct. I asked if the billing is on a 30 day cycle and was told yes but still got a bill in Oct. that was never paid for. I advised I never received a bill in Oct. My first bill I received was in Nov. which was paid so I'm not sure why I'm showing late. The rep on the phone couldn't explain it to me either. I was offered to make a payment over the phone to catch me up and was told I was late $120.00 so agreed to pay the amount. After giving my card information I was told I will be charged $152.00 because I missed the cut off time to pay by 42-48 minutes. I asked if that can be waved as it's just 42-48 minutes and I was on the phone with her during this time and was told no, it's out of her hands. If you could avoid this card at all cost, please for you sake do so. Try Care Credit instead I've used them in the past and they are WAY better to deal with then this company. Sadly now that I'm online looking I see they have a lot of negative reviews with the same issues. I guess they like to take advantage of their customers. I seriously hope someone does something about this company taking advantage of people. I've reported them to the BBB and Consumer Affairs as well. read more

I got the Caesar Entertainment Rewards Visa Card. It was through Comenity Bank. I found many charges I did not think I should have to pay, as I had paid my bill..........early at that. When I called, I was told that anytime I pay my bill early, any charges made to it after that, up until the last day to pay without penalty, would be charged interest fees. So if I pay my bill that is due on the 20th, on the 20th, and I have until the 24th to pay that bill without late fees, and a charge comes in on the 22nd, I am charged interest for that charge. My other credit card just adds this charge to the next month's charges, but this bank charges me interest for that charge. I was totally disgusted and feel this to be totally unacceptable and akin to Highway Robbery. I will be canceling my card at the end of this billing cycle. I have also reported this to Caesar's. read more

Due to the lack of verifying, by requiring an email or actual US mail verification, that it was me who had applied for a credit card, or even requiring income info, etc. - PayPal, on behalf of Comenity Bank approved a fraudulent credit account in my name, based on info about me that had been hacked online. Rather than owning up to their lax, shoddy business practices, and closing the account and deleting the two small charges accrued, they are making me - the victim - jump through hoops to prove my innocence. All they had to do was contact me by phone, email or physical address - which PayPal already had on record - and ask for verification that it was me applying, and they didn't even do that. I know of no other credit/bank account that does not require verification, nor does anyone with whom I've spoken. read more

I recently got married and missed 1 or 2 payments prior to the wedding (they are expensive). I made a payment after the wedding, paying off almost 90% of my total balance. I went to use the card at a department store and it declined. My account showed the payment was received and applied to my account. When calling the credit card company they told me I was "out of luck for the next 30 days". I have spent thousands with them and looked to spend more. And in return I got an "oh well". Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I called in trying to pay my balance off in full earlier than the due date and they would not waive a $9 fee. I wanted to pay with a customer rep online because I did not have access at the time to my routing info for my bank to be able to pay online. This company has the worst customer service that I have ever seen. I talked to a rep and then two supervisors and no one was willing to waive this $9 fee. It was the coldest feeling ever on the phone, as if I was talking to a robot. All they want to do is read a script off a card and say its our policy. If their website was updated where you could pay with a debit card online, this would not be a problem and I could understand the fee. I bought a diamond ring on March 9, 2019 at the Jared Gallery of Jewelry and was set up on a 12 month promotional finance program through Comenity Bank for 1year. The sales person at Jared assured me that 12 installments according to Comenity`s payment plan was all I needed to pay off the balance with no interest. He did not give me any paper contract to sign. I got the card for the account about a week later and was directed to Comenity-Jared web page with a payment plan set up for me. Their web page displayed the whole payment plan suggested by Comentity stating that the first bill was due on May 3, 2019 and the last bill was due on April 3, 2020. There were 12 total payments displayed. The first bill was due on May 3, 2019. However, at Comenity- Jared Gallery of Jewelry they trigger the promotional balance to expire on the actual day the year ends and NOT on the day of the last scheduled payment. After the balance was paid off on April 1, 2020 they charged me $882.77 in finance charges. They set you up on a payment plan that will not fulfill the requirements of the plan. So then you get hit with a huge bill as soon as you pay off the balance. They could have easily helped me avoid this problem by having my first bill be due on April 3, 2019 instead of May, or they could have divided my payments by 11. They could have used their text message informational system and/or display the actual expiration date of the promotional finance program on the web page where the payment plan is. It is obvious a border line illegal, a scam like practice that they use to benefit their profits. This is unfair and unacceptable. This caused me get charged the interest on the card even though I had an automatic payment coming and was religiously following the plan. Their claim is that they informed me by putting some text in a lightly brown (they call it red) box on my paperless statement. This isn't good enough because the entire point of the automatic payments is I don't need to micromanage this account. For this to have ever worked I would have had to change the default billing date by knowing their system was flawed. Besides their e-statements designed in the way that they display a minimum due, a due date and a current balance carefully avoiding any information about accrued interest and actual expiration date of promotion. Once a customer sees an e-statement he/she is guided by the remaining balance, then clicks on the "make a payment" and directed straight to the page with the payment plan to actually make a payment. It is another trick of their deceptive practices. On top of that, they did not give me any paper contract to sign in the store, nor am I able to locate my contract on their web page. I am a full-time mother of two young kids and I do not expect a stab in the back here in the USA where we value honest and responsible businesses that we trust. read more

I had a terrible experience today. I called a lady named Erica who had called me about a past due balance on my Maurice's credit card. Keep in mind that they just acquired these accounts from Capital One, so I had never been contacted by Comenity before. Well I was asking her questions and she started to get very rude with me. She had been on speaker because that was the only way she could hear me and my husband looked over at me and said "Is she really talking to you like that!?" She was telling me that I should have known not to fall behind and that what do I expect. And she said that I was going to have her put a note on my account stating that I was refusing to pay and that she would expedite the collection process. All because she was mad, not because I was actually refusing. I had called in to set up a payment plan. She then said, after I told her that I was going to call back and speak with someone else that she would make sure the account came to her and she's put a note to have it go to her. She was VERY unprofessional and made Comenity look bad. I then told her that I wanted her supervisor and at first she refused to transfer me over. Instead she acted like she was and then stayed on the line ease dropping on me. Finally I got to the supervisor and asked to file a complaint. The supervisor was great, which is what earned the 1 star. Terrible experience all around. I was upset for hours after that call and cried. She also accused me of never reaching out for help and that I signed up for a card and should know that it is due and to be paid every month. Erica treated me like a dog! Here is the thing. They just got that account from Capital One (I only found out on 3/20/20 when I made a payment), so how would she have any idea if I ever reached out for help? She wouldn't! Very very bad customer service. She should not work in customer service. read more

I have NEVER been late paying my bill and I call ONE time to skip a month and they charged me 27$ of the late fee and gave me a $15 credit. Therefore they jacked up my bill without telling me. So I paid the amount that was on my bill to pay, WHICH I PAID. Then a guy calls me saying that I owed $7 more dollars and that I wouldn't be charged a late fee. Look at my bill I have been charged, $38 for $7. Which is Highway robbery, especially since they didn't tell me that the amount of my bill would change because of them charging me part of my late fee. Customer service sucks!! They give you the run around and then think that you are stupid and don't know any better and can't tell when they are full of B.S. !! ~ DONT GET WITH THIS BANK !! this is the main reason why I closed my Lane Bryant account with them. I am going to close my Catherines account with them as well !! THEY ARE BOGUS !! read more

If I could give this bank a zero, I would. This bank (if it can really be called a bank) is more of a racket. They are basically fee scammers and I'm surprised legitimate companies like Trek and so on continue to use them. I have never seen a company with lower ratings than this place; it's shocking. Comenity should be investigated, but since we have few consumer protections or regulations for companies like this, one learns the hard way. I won't be doing business with them anymore. One caution for those dumb enough to use this outfit. They will hold up the initial statement and then charge a late fee. Don't accept this. I worked for major banks and the legitimate ones don't pull this kind of trick. read more

This is a horrible bank. When I was a credit card holder with Elder Beerman, this bank, which issued the card, saw no reason to report any financial activity to anyone of the three major credit agencies, Experian, Equifax, TransUnion. Twenty-four months ago I cancelled the credit card. No report to the credit agencies. Eight months ago, for some unknown reason, Comenity began reporting monthly to the three agencies that my "loan" was paid and is at "zero" balance. WHY NOW? So, now, every month, I get credit alerts from the three agencies, I have to go on line and spend an hour every month checking to see what caused the credit alert. Each time it is Comenity Bank reporting my "loan" is paid.I want it stopped. Comenity says it cannot change anything that is not factual. Well, come on, people. I am no longer a customer. I haven't been a customer for some time AND NOW COMENITY FEELS THE NEED TO REPORT ON MY CREDIT!!!! Why? This is causing me time and undue stress. read more

Me and my daughters had laser treatments with ALS, signed up with Comenity Bank to finance the charges. ALS closed their doors, and now we're fighting to get our refund back from Comenity Bank. First, they told their customers yes, we'll refund you what you paid for services not rendered. Now, they only adjusted the account to a zero balance without giving their clients the money that was paid. They're playing games and I will NOT RECOMMEND this bank for anyone. A report has been submitted to the Better Business Bureau and Channel 7 on your side. Still calling them everyday to get our refund. FB - some clients received their refund, and some didn't. They will not even discuss how they resolved those cases, case by case B.S. What's the procedure? They make up bull shit excuse just to get you off the phone. Managers don't even call back..playing dirty games. This bank SUCKS! read more

I'd give Comenity zero stars if that were an option. Currently holding a Virgin America Visa through this horrible bank. A mess from the beginning: they screwed up my initial credit card application due to their buggy website. Although the customer service reps are friendly, their systems and communications are a disaster. For over ten years, with other cards whenever I dispute a charge it can be done online and there's an immediate provisional credit while the matter is being investigated--which is usually resolved in a few short weeks at worst. Not so with Comenity. You have to snail mail a letter which then takes them months to resolve, during which time they have no clue regarding the status of the dispute. As much as I dread Alaska taking over Virgin America I do hope they'll make Comenity go away. read more

We have had comenity bank cards through Gander Mountain Mastercard for over 15 years. Recently, I had 5 fraudulent transactions roll through my card in February. After seeing it online, I immediately had to shut down that card. However, during that time, I had a statement due. We always pay in full, on time, we don't pay interest basically. However, since we shut down our old account number (the number that the statement came to our house on) when we paid on that account, the payee refused the payment, and sure enough by the next statement, we had the previous balance + the new balance of stuff that ran past the statement cutoff + interest + late fees. I have been on the phone with these people at least 2x a week if not more for the last month. As customers that habitually run almost $70K/year through this card, you would think we would get a bit better treatment/communication. The communication sucks, I haven't been updated on the fraudulent activity at all, just keep being told it'll be 90 days. I'm done. Will never do business with this bank again. Just purely awful customer support. Sure they can shut down a card, but ask them to process a payment or seek any resolution at all and you'll be asking for too much. read more

DO NOT get any credit card issued by this bank!!!! I got a Virgin America Credit card issued by this bank and it sucks. This bank will always side with merchant and will not do anything to refund defective service. This bank is extremely incompetent in handling dispute of defective service and will just use whatever the merchant claims and side with them. I reserved a 4-star hotel room using this credit card and the hotel room turned out to be filled with cigarettes smoke and has an adjoining door to another room which channeled from the next room, lots of noise and every bit of conversation that I don't want to hear. I requested the hotel to do something and they refused and said there was no more room they could give me. Their attitude was I had no choice but to keep my room and just put up with the gas even though I was coughing so hard!! They could careless if I would be gased to death in the room!!! All they told me was I agreed to book a non-refundable room!! The hotel refused to refund claiming I agreed to the no-cancellation policy when I reserved on the website. I left the hotel without spending the night because the cigarette smell was making me cough and tearing me up. It was my birthday weekend and I ended up driving a long way to stay with a relative in her retirement village!!! It was the worst birthday I ever had in my life!!!!! Yet this ruthless hotel just robbed me like this, not just the money but my birthday!!! I booked a non-smoking room but I was given a room that smelled lots of cigarette, with dirty bathroom (poop stain in toilet and towels which I took photos), and I couldn't stand it so I left. I later filed a dispute with Comenity bank, but their incompetent dispute department just kept sending me the same formed letter citing the same lame and unjust reason for which they sided with the hotel, which is , I agreed to the terms that the room was non-refundable, and not cancellable. I wrote letters explaining to them that the terms didn't include the fact that the room would be filled with cigarette smell, noisy with no privacy and a flimsy adjoining door to another stranger's room. The term and condition didn't say I agreed to be choked and teared up and gased by cigarette for 2 nights. I was charged over $790 for 2 nights. That room was worse than motel 6. The terms and condition didn't put that in writing and if they did, I wouldn't have agreed to book the room. But the incompetent dispute department at this bank totally disregarded the fact that the term and condition was fraudulent and illegal, and I certainly didn't enter a legal contract because I certainly didn't agree to pay almost $800 for a room that will gas me and tear me up and that has a privacy intruding adjoining door to another room. The bank kept sending me the same lazy formed letter citing , "the merchant sent us evidence that you agreed to their non-refundable terms and conditions...". and the bank attached a copy of the merchant's term and condition and my credit card receipts as the so-called evidence to side with the bank!!! This shows me that the bank hired incompetent lazy people who can't read and who absolutely can't reason to work in the dispute department. They are literally helping the hotel to rob me !!! Do not bank with this bank , DO NOT invest in this bank, because if the bank has such incompetent and lazy people working in the dispute department, you can only imagine how it handles your deposits and invests your deposits. I personally won't even trust any financial statements issued by this bank because one weak link in one department can pretty much give you a general idea of the overall operation of the whole bank.....I will not have confidence in their financial statements to invest in this bank, and I will not have any confidence to bank with them, or trust them with my money. I will cancel my credit card after I use all the free mileage points that I accumulated for Virgin America. I just don't want to wait until one day some ID theft hacks into this incompetent bank's server and starts charging me crazy and then this bank will just side with the thieves and mails me lame receipts of purchases as the reason to side with them!!! I can not trust this bank and the credit card it issues anymore!!! I recommend Virgin America to give their business to another bank!!!!!!! read more

I had the misfortune of having my credit card account acquired by Comenity. Certainly, nobody in their right mind should never voluntarily open an account with them. Problems with them range from the irritating to what I would consider fraudulent business practices on their part. One only need look at other reviews to see the host of complaints. On the irritating side, they don't even have an app, so you have to log on to a webpage every time you want to do anything. What a waste of time and inconvenience! On the more serious side, I just spent nearly half a year fighting with them over a charge that I disputed back in May (2020). I made a purchase, had the merchant cancel, but then refuse to issue anything other than a credit. I disputed to the highest level with the merchant to no avail and, to my dismay, found the bank uninterested in pursuing this at all or taking my dispute seriously. So much for the online purchase protection that we supposedly have when making purchases with a credit card. All of my appeals to Comenity and the documentation I provided appear to have gone into the circular file. Their only response was to repeatedly tell me to contact the merchant. I tried to convince them that we should be on the same side, and should both be fighting the unethical business practices of the merchant, but it's clear that they have no interest in protecting the interests of their clients or their own business reputation. read more

I recently faced a challenging situation with Comenity Bank that has left me in a dire position, and I feel compelled to share my experience. I have been a customer of Comenity Bank, holding a DELL PAY credit card that unfortunately switched to Comenity Bank from Dell Financial Services. Unfortunately, after a dispute with their customer care representatives, my account was flagged for fraud when I was trying to request a letter from them that my mortgage company was requesting. Despite providing them with my driver's license, social security card, and W2, all with my current address, Comenity Bank permanently closed my account, citing an inability to validate my identity. The timing of this closure couldn't be worse, as it jeopardizes the closing of my mortgage, putting my home purchase at risk. I have invested significant time and financial resources into the closing process, and the consequences of this account closure are severe. What adds to the frustration is the lack of responsiveness and assistance from Comenity Bank during this critical period. The urgency of my situation is not being adequately acknowledged, and I am left in a state of distress. I sincerely hope that others can learn from my experience. If you're considering Comenity Bank for your financial needs, I would caution you to be aware of the potential challenges you may face, particularly in times of dispute or urgency. read more

Please be advised that these reviews are accurate. I have had my Victoria Secret card through Comenity Bank for several years. My card remained active when my credit score was at it's lowest and my credit card debt, with other creditors, was at it's highest. However, I remained in good standing with my Victoria Secret card. Now that my overall credit card debt has decreased drastically and my score has increased drastically I was notified, through CreditKarma, that my account with Comenity Bank was closed. I initially contacted Victoria Secret and was told that my account was closed due to findings with my credit report. Please keep in mind that in return this made my credit score drop 33 points! I contacted the credit bureau, with whom they reported me to, and was told that there was no findings on their end as to why Comenity Bank should have closed my account so I was asked if I wanted to file a dispute. In which I did so. I contacted Comenity Bank who only stated that they did so due to what was reported to them by the bureau. Huh?? I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau and for anyone else who has suffered at their hands lease do so as well. You do so online and it is an easy and quick process. I will be taking further action if this is not resolved. read more

I applied for this credit card on the Wayfair website. Made payments on time, each month. Then in September they announced that they closed my account, because Wayfair doesn't work with them anymore. Good for Wayfair! Then in September I had financial difficulties because of this stupid pandemic time, and instead of making payment on 10th and made payment on 15th but I paid off my balance completely, it was $ 0. When they sent me a bill for $33 late fee, I called them I asked to remove that fee, because I made my previous payments on time, and I paid off my balance. I asked them why you charge fees on the account that currently has 0 and it's closed??! And I simply wasn't able to pay it on time I had financial difficulties. They didn't agree with that, I was super angry because in any other bank they would agree that it's the case there to remove late fee is appropriate but they didn't. I wasn't able to made that payment unfortunately. In December they sent me $68, so they added one more late fee. But thanks God I was table to pay it in December! I hope they will choke with these money. It's an evil company. And btw their automatic payment systems needs many improvements. Long waiting time on hold is another problem. read more

My response to their computer generated (no response) email. I am not satisfied at all!! I called Customer Service because I was trying to make a payment on my account on the day it was due and because it was 8:15 p.m. I was advised by your very rude overseas call center that I would be charged a $25.00 late fee. I then spoke to someone in the United States who again would not budge regarding this issue. This is highly offensive and perhaps a violation of the Fair Credit Act (I will investigate further). I find it distressing that although I paid well over the amount due on the due date (by a customer who has consistently paid well over the minimum due on my account each month) that Comenity would be so rigid and anti-customer service that they would insist on this policy, again from a customer who has always kept their account in good standing. I will pay the remaining balance due minus the $25.00 dollar fee you insist on charging and again will investigate this issue regarding the Fair Credit Act and will note a review on the major websites regarding your lack of customer service. read more

I have a few store cards that I have had for years, Jared, Talbots, and Coldwater Creek are the ones that Comenity has taken over from other banks. I got caught like many when this pandemic hit. I was waiting for a check to arrive from March 11 and couldn't get a hold of the company that it was due from as they were in CA and I am in FL. Come to find out they had been closed due to the Coronavirus. I explained this to Comenity and was told not to worry about it and they would give me a 2 month extension to pay. I finally got my check in July, I paid all of their accounts up to date and now I am being told that my Talbots card is being closed due to a low credit score!!! They knew what the issue was and still closed my account that didn't even have a balance on it as I haven't used the card since back in Dec. This is stupid and can't wait to pay off my others with this bank to never use them again. The kicker is I had others with them but the companies have gone out of business! If this is how they treat their business' as well I can see why they are no longer in business. read more

This company is in violation of the TCPA. They need to STOP CALLING. Comenity Bank has faced several allegations of violating TCPA. Here are some examples of TCPA violations: Calling at odd hours and contacting consumers late at night and early in the morning. Calling the consumer at their workplace and leaving a message about the debt with the person who answers the call. Calling and not identifying themselves or their purpose. Not identifying the entity to whom debt is owed. Calling and talking about the debt without first verifying if the consumer owes it or not. Not honoring a consumer's wishes to not call them; not honoring the Do-Not-Call-Registry. Threatening consumers with lawsuits that are not applicable to their case. Threatening and intimidating consumers with legal action where none is intended. Leaving messages containing details of the debt with people other than the consumer. This could include their relatives, co-workers, friends, and/or neighbors. Making details of the debt public and causing undue embarrassment to the consumer who owes the debt read more

BEWARE if you are thinking about using Comenity! DON"T DO IT! I pay my bills ahead of schedule every month. Yesterday, I received several calls saying my payment was late. I went on line to check out was going on and it clearly showed on my payment schedule that my next payment was due on April 4. Today is March 21! On top of that, they had charged me $90 in late fees!!! They have charged me these late fees for the past several months! No one ever answers the phone at customer service and they just recently allowed you to use a debit or credit card to pay your bill! If you need help and want to speak with an actual person, plan on taking the day off and committing to just trying to speak with someone. When I finally reached a person today, she said that the reason I was charged a late fee was because I paid ahead of my due date and they don't apply it! WHAT??? They will not refund the late fees! I am contacting the Attorney General and have filed a complaint with the BBB. read more

This institution,(very mental, unstable company!!!!) Literally insane! Doing the same thing over & over expecting different results in finance! Really disscuting that on average call about 7 times a day, starting at am and continuing all day long. on your day off every 2 hrs. Then they try scam calls. Using different numbers saying there someone else? And I can see it's the same number. Trying to check out our intelligence? All in reality, I'm all about helping others out that need a better life. They DO NOT about nothing about customer service in my! Experience. In our broken world today, we don't need this petty nonsense especially if your bill isn't due for another month! So I made a decision and will go to the store and pay my own bill and continue to block all there numbers from around the . And Report spam and harassment. No offense but the illegals are being Illegal. Have a positive day. read more

I had a terrible experience with Comenity Bank, and I would not recommend them to anyone. Their practices feel completely misleading and borderline fraudulent. I noticed unauthorized charges on my account, and when I contacted customer service, they were unhelpful and dismissive. Instead of resolving the issue, they kept transferring me between departments with no clear answers. It felt like they were intentionally avoiding taking responsibility. Their billing system is confusing, and fees seem to appear out of nowhere. Even after making payments on time, I was hit with unexpected charges that were never properly explained. What's most frustrating is the lack of transparency and accountability. A bank should provide security and trust, but my experience with Comenity has been the opposite. I strongly advise others to think twice before opening an account with them. read more

This bank appears to be unfairly charging customers. My wife opened a credit card through Sephora and made a purchase of about $65. We never received any billing statement. Later, the bank added a $40 late fee. I contacted customer service, and they agreed to waive $25 of the fee. I then paid the original balance plus the remaining $25 late fee. This issue occurred in November, and we believed it was resolved. However, in March, we received another call from customer service demanding around $200. They claimed that the original payment was one day late and continued adding additional late fees. Now, the customer service representatives are threatening legal action, which feels unreasonable given the situation. We made a good-faith effort to resolve the issue and paid what we were told was owed. This situation feels unfair and needs to be reviewed. read more

If I could give this company a negative amount of stars -0, I would. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. I submitted a payment to them on the 12th of the month. They did not try to process the payment until approximately the 26th of the month and by that time, I thought they had already taken their money and have been paid. By the time I found out that they didn't receive the funds, I was marked late on my credit report and so I made another payment that they also didn't process in a timely manner and this time my credit report reflected that I was 60 days late ruining my credit report and my credit score. This has happened so many times that I am paying this account off next week and I will NEVER do business with Comenity Bank ever again!! read more

I got a lane Bryant credit card for my girlfriend. She bought bras from there all the time so I thought it was a good idea to save some money, boy was I wrong! I paid off my balance in December, then I was charged a $2 "finance charge" after paying off the card. Think my balance was 0, I didn't bother looking at statements until May. In May the balance was over $200 from late fees on the $2 finance charge. I paid all but one late fee and closed my account then ANOTHER $2 finance charge showed up a week after I paid off the account THE SECOND TIME. I called customer service and was transferred to the wrong people then transferred to a "manager" who didn't answer my questions and hung up on me. I am writing to express significant concern regarding recent charges applied to my account with Kay Jewelers and Comenity Bank. Specifically, I was recently subjected to unexpected interest charges. Upon switching to paperless billing, I was not notified that interest would subsequently be applied to the balance throughout the year. As a result, a full year's worth of interest was added to my statement. I am very dissatisfied with this process and the lack of clear communication regarding the financial implications of opting for paperless billing. I request an immediate review of these charges and clarification on how this interest was calculated and applied without prior notification. read more

What a terrible credit card company! This place and GE Money Bank are the worst loan sharking credit card issuers out there. DO NOT GET A CREDIT CARD FROM THEM. They issue mostly store credit cards for places like Victoria's Secret, and issue a handful of co branded cards that are impossible to obtain unless you have a 750+ credit score. They will nickel and dime you in fees, move around your billing cycles, and do whatever it takes to show you that you are nothing but a number to them. I called to close my account and they said why? I said they are the worst credit card I have, they said fine its closed. Not even a thank you for your business. Ack! read more

Comenity Bank/Wayfair is the worst credit card servicer on this planet. They regularly take over an hour to answer the phone and their website regularly requires a password change, that once completed, is not recognized. TWO attempts locks you out, and then you have to call a number nobody answers. Due to these issues and their sporadic reporting to the Credit reporting agencies, we needed an update to complete a disabled Veteran's refinance. It took 5 calls over 3 days to finally request a "Balance Letter" that is required to update their credit report. A day later the fax arrived showing the balance on the card as $XX.XX. WTF! read more

Do not trust this bank. Their products are designed in misleading ways -- burying important terms in fine print and creating blind spots through a lack of communication. Search them in consumer venues like CFPB or BBB and you'll see the same pattern of complaints. Customers are hit with thousands in surprise charges that are technically 'legal' only because they hide behind the fine print -- a classic trap. They operate under different names, such as Alphaeon Credit for medical expenses. If the product you're considering is linked to them, avoid it at all costs. read more
