They are a company that deceives its customers. There is no advantage whatsoever in paying for a membership when the price of their services is exorbitantly high. I request a service for installing a damper in my a/c, the cost of this part is $89 and they tried to billed me $1,300 for thw work. It was the worst experience. BEWARE!!!! I contacted this company after my Trane central AC blower fan failed. They were the first to respond to my after-hours call, and I paid $99 for their diagnostic service. After inspecting the unit, they quoted me $4,800 plus tax for replacement of the blower motor in the attic furnace. I refused the repair because the price was outrageous. I then called Compass Heating and Air. Their technician came out promptly, replaced the blower motor, and also performed additional services including clearing a clogged evaporator line, cleaning the outdoor compressor for efficiency, and checking refrigerant levels. The total charge for all of this work was $890. The difference of nearly $4,000 between the two quotes is unacceptable and cannot reasonably be justified. I believe this company attempted to take advantage of me during an emergency situation. THIS SHOULD BE CRIMINAL IN MY OPINION!! read more

Please please please. STAY FAR AWAY! This is by far the worst company I've ever dealt with -- outrageously overpriced, unethical, and charging for parts that are actually covered under warranty. Here's how they operate: they'll come out, service your unit, and throw out a ridiculously high number. Then the next day, they'll call back with a "much better" price to make you feel like you're getting a deal. Don't be fooled -- you're still being massively overcharged. Example: They "fixed" my unit for nearly $3,000. Just 45 days later, my fan motor went out. Their initial estimate? Around $3k-$4k. The next day, they called with "great news" -- it would only be $1,750 for the part and labor. Oh, and I'd need to wait two weeks because the part was on "back order." Then came the constant calls and texts pressuring me to pay upfront so they could "order" the part. Something felt off, so I got a second opinion. Another reputable company came out, quoted me $400, told me the motor was fully covered under warranty, and even said they could pick up the part that same day from a local warehouse. So let's be clear: this company would have happily taken $1,750 from me for something another honest contractor did for $400 -- with the part fully covered. They are ripping people off. Do yourself a favor: stay away, or at the very least, get a second opinion. And check your invoices -- their "retail prices" are completely misleading. read more

I don't believe this company truly trains employees to know everything that there is about these units. On July 5 my AC shut off. At first I thought my Google nest had died, so I charged it, put it back, but the AC was still off. I called comfort exerts to come fix, and they send out Michael. While he was a bit knowledgeable about one of the three parts of my unit, he only fixed the AC for it to turn back on. I was never told anything else about the other two parts of the AC system. On August 18, Kellen had to come out and fix it again because our AC shut off. He even told us that it was a completely fried unit and that we had to receive a new one. While this is heart wrenching, and quite expensive - I can't live without air conditioning in Texas, so we did what we had to do. Four weeks later (Sept 15), the AC system shut off again! At this point I am pissed because $6000 was just spent on getting a new AC system. Called this company to let them know that this was highly unacceptable and was told that these guys work on commission. So of course they want to give you the most amount to be spent. Y'all. I'm just sick! So calling all over, I get told the AC system or unit wasn't the issue, that it was the board that my system has. It's a shame that both Michael and Kellen didn't want to tell me, or didn't complete their job, that it was the board that was the issue because that would've cost me a whole lot less than $6000! My daughter called Comfort Experts to come look at her unit which has a condenser that is no longer working (cracked). They quoted her $1700 for the part and $3000 for freon!!! Are you serious?!?!?! The unit itself cost about $4000. She had another company come out and gave her a honest quote,$1300 TOTAL! Don't bother calling Comfort Experts. They will just try to rip you off!!! Avoid this company at any cost. I got my Furnace blower keep running and therefore I gave them a call, thought they could come and help me fix the issue. They sent Michael to my house and after looking into it he said I need a new HVAC system which is $10k. He kept rushing me to replace them and they will give me a good deal, think Im an idiot. Who the hell going to spend 10k for just a problem with the fan? I call another technician and he came and point out it was the main board issue and fixed the problem in 30 minutes then charged for $120. If I was an idiot then I already lost 10k easily. Misleading when buying service, paid extra for 10 yr warranty so I wouldn't have high expense while paying for it but after 2 years you must renew membership for it to be valid. They didn't even get the city to inspect and approve for almost a year when installed. Also tried to sell me a$400 part that "might go out" when out for check up service. Run from this place. I recently moved in and hired them based on the glowing reviews and they charged me $700 to sign up for an annual contract for all 3 units...then charged me another $1300 to install switches that stop the AC units if they start leaking water. A little pricey, considering I had them installed in Florida for my 3 units for $500. Anyhow, one of my AC units stopped working today and called them to come out and they said they couldn't because I had a home warranty and they don't work with those. Mind you, I called them regardless of a home warranty...I wasn't going to use it as I was a customer of theirs and was willing to pay out of pocket...I didn't even think about my home warranty at all! Ashley then told me they couldn't work on it because they didn't work with home warranty companies and I told her not to worry about it because I was paying out of pocket and she said NO CAN DO. What the hell??? It's going to be 108 degrees today and I bought a package with them to service my AC units and she said NO CAN DO????? Didn't ask about a home warranty when I signed up with them at first! Totally unprofessional and even though they don't "sell" services" they certainly suggest a lot. I was also suggested I get an attic tent installed for $800. Googled it and on Amazon you can pick one up for $50 and install it yourself. Before I made an appointment, I called Comfort Experts to ask what services will be performed for a heating tune up. the representative were very nice and patience, telling each service as I was writing them down. The technician came and performed his service. He told me that everything was fine with my one year old HVAC unit and he recommended a compressor saver kit. Due to the cost of part and labor he mentioned($495), we decided to put a pause to save the money to proceed with his recommendation. I addressed to him about my heater blowing cold air instead of hot. He said it could be other issue because the HVAC unit was good. When he left, I notice the filter was not changed and that was part of the service which he did not performed. The next day, we woke up to very cold house which made us search another company for a second opinion. The following day another technician came, checked the unit's wiring and within a minutes he found the ground wire was not working. He fix it and the HVAC began to blow hot air. He placed an anemometer to one of the vent to measure wind speed temperature. Do to their lack of knowledge, I will not use Comfort Experts/ Hobson air conditioning Inc. services again. read more

Be very careful with comfort experts. *Three hundred dollars to change an AC capacitor ;) *400 to change a 5 dollar kitchen sink part (tech had to drive around for 2 hours of labor charge for a part readily available to home depot) ;) *Estimate for an AC repair... $3765. Second opinion tech made minor adjustment for 154. There was no need to change the major part for 3765. I understand that people make honest mistakes. Maybe my Mom's experience isn't typical. However, I will say they were 3 for 3 on shady, overpriced service calls with her. Be careful out there. read more

What i know now that i didn't know then..... The sale was slick and smooth. The install was about the same with two young kids mucking their way through a "make it fit" circus. A 20x25 filter housing strapped to the top of a 20x24 unit. Good old mask covered up them thar holes! Then the drainage...with no means of clean-out! Cost me dearly. Had to replace the whole danged floor AND floor joists. As for the shut-off float switch - I don't think it is even hooked up..... FWIW - i doubt very much either of them kids was fully licensed for HVAC.... And when i called for a service special, I was told they no longer serviced my area. the unit is nearly 13 years old now - and coming time to probably replace it. I was told by Comfort Experts to expect my installers between 8:30 and 9:00. I got an email at 9:00 telling me Daniel C was on the way. At 10 he showed up with an assistant. I showed him where the unit was and he asked about the breakers. I showed him the breakers and he argued with me about which ones were correct. I was right. He spent the day listening to music and singing which I was fine with. Finally, about 5:30 he said he was going to test the AC system. It was 60 degrees outside. After 30 minutes I pointed out the Honeywell T4 thermostat was 4 degrees higher than the 64 degrees on my thermometer and asked him to adjust the display temperature and showed him the installation manual. He said it couldn't be changed. I said I would call his office and see if anyone else there knew how to change it. Then it got ugly. I was told Alex, the service mgr, would call me back. After 15 minutes I called again and Laura said there was nothing she could do, they had to let the AC cooling system run for an hour to check it out. I asked again for a manager to get the installers to wrap it up and by then it had been an hour my house was at 64 degrees. After a few more minutes, Daniel C came back in the house and apparently was on the phone with his service mgr who was telling him how to adjust the thermostat. He was arguing with him as well. At this point, I just told him since we were pushing 11 hours I had been tied up with this installation, to do what he needed to do and finish up. So he started arguing with me again saying I had a problem with him as soon as he got there. After more back and forth in more and more heated tones, he finally told his assistant to just "shut it off". He left the front door open, the back gate open, the attic stairs down, the light on and blocks he screwed into the attic stairs which prevent me from closing them. This review is about six years too late to help my family, but hopefully it will help yours. In 2014, my father had a problem with his A/C and called Comfort Experts. The tech arrived, told him a capacitor in the air handler needed to be replaced and did the work. That very night, my father noticed a burning smell throughout the house, emanating from the vents and called the fire department. Luckily no damage was done, but the next morning I opened the air handler to find the tech had used a capacitor that was clearly incorrect for the unit - it wouldn't even fit in the mounting bracket and was just laying loose in the handler. At this point my father made two crucial mistakes. First, he actually called Comfort Experts back, and then he let the salesman talked him into paying over $6000 for a brand-X A/C system (Goodman). For that money one can own a quality brand like Rheem or Trane. But I still don't hold it against him; he was in his 80s and not as sharp mentally as he once was. Fast forward to 2018, when the system failed. The problem was the fan motor in the air handler. Luckily, the fan motor was under warranty. Unluckily, we were dealing with Comfort Experts so the visit still cost $500. I was present that day and asked the tech to explain the charge, since the part was under warranty. He said nothing, just sort of hung his head in shame. And now the system is dead again, which is the reason for posting this info at this time. My advice to you is, treat Comfort Experts very much like COVID-19 - avoiding all contact is the safest bet. read more

Several years back, we had a terrible experience with this company. When called for seasonal maintenance, the tech diagnosed multiple "failures" within the system. After rattling off a bunch of technical jargon and telling us how much it would be to repair everything (several thousand dollars), he pulls out a chart and showed us that we were in that area between where repair is suggested but really near where replacement is recommended. He said he "Honestly" would suggest total replacement- of the system we had replaced six years earlier for around $10K. When asked about the warranty on our current system, he said he had called it into the office to check but it "looks like it was never registered". We pay $100 for the service call and he sets up an appointment with someone in sales to come talk to us about our options. That guy, Mr. Slick, came out with his binder full of laminated pages with all kinds of pretty colors. The options given: 1. Replace it with the most cost effective system for $8- $9K 2. Replace it with a more efficient system for $16K 3. Rplace it with the top of the line system that had a lifetime warranty (parts only) for $22K As the unit was working just fine, we told him we were going to have to think about it. Then I scheduled a service call for "seasonal maintenance" with two other companies, just like I had with Comfort Experts. Imagine our shock when BOTH of them found only minor issues. Repair was a couple of hundred dollars. The next month, I notice a $50 charge on to our debit card. I call the office, the lady tells me that we had signed up for their gold level maintenance agreement and that is the monthly charge for the next two years. She explains that is the reason the service call was "ONLY" $100. We had never agreed to any such agreement and It took MULTIPLE calls to finally get that fraud stopped, but there was no refund for the months that had been charged by that point. So, here we are several years later. The same system is still working very well with regular maintenance. Needless to say, someone else is doing that for us. So why leave a review now? Because this company still has my phone number and is leaving me pre-recorded messages "reminding me of the importance of maintaining my system for optimal performance." If this were the last remaining AC repair company in the state of Texas, I would sell my house and move to another state to avoid doing business with them again. read more

Couldn't they have at least made sure we wouldn't be left in the horrible heat until the stupid part arrived and the situation was settled? WHAT COMPANY DOES THAT?! I have a 3 year old to worry about. How did they expect me to sleep? Careless and inattentive are perfect words to describe this company. To say I am aggravated and pissed off is an understatement. Not once was I able to speak with a manager, and they had a trainee deal with our problem and then the dispatch supervisor. Why the crap would you leave a trainee 'alone'? What's the dispatch supervisor going to do other than play the Messenger? We have yet to speak with a manager or supervisor (even though the technician from earlier today claimed that his supervisor would give us a call later this evening, we'll see if THAT happens). That is ridiculous and horrible customer service. I did some googling on this company, and they are now listed as a 'D' in the Better Business Bureau site and I found mountains of horrible reviews. Turns out we're not the only customers they have done this too. I wish I could give NO STARS, because they are not worthy of even one star. We are now seeking legal action. I called Comfort Experts about 5 days ago to come service my AC unit. They arrived on time and as scheduled. I have waited a few days to write this post because I wanted to make sure my AC would continue to stay cold and it has!!! The customer service I received was great, she was able to answer every question and even returned my call as she said she would. One of the things I worry about with HVAC companies is that they will try to say things are wrong that aren't really wrong just to make an extra buck, and I was worried this would happen to me, but the service guy came in and fixed all of my issues in one trip and after a few days it is still working so I am very satisfied . This company does NOT try to make an extra buck. They seem like a great company that is very honest and they have awesome customer service! Any negative reviews on here must have been a one-off because the guys that come to my house are always courteous and professional. Joseph is no exception. He has been the technician here for the last year at my home and is always in a good mood, very honest about what's going on, explains everything to me in detail and always addresses me with "ma'am"... He has never tried to push any service on me but has explained things that could potentially go wrong in the future and how to avoid it. Don't use this company! They tried to goad me into a new system by saying my compressor was fried. The tech, Phillip Olden stated a replacement compressor would cost $4000-$6000 and it would be cheaper to install a new system. Talking to the office they said their system run $8000-$12000. I got a second opinion and found that the soft start was fried and nothing was wrong with the compressor! The system is operating fine now for FREE! Buyer beware! read more

My wife called this company out, Knew before ever talking to the guy that a new unit was going to be pushed. Didn't argue because I figured if I buy a new one wouldn't have to worry for a while. Guy sold me A 13k dollar unit. said it might take a couple days might not. Wife asked if they would give us emergency ac, guy said yes if we cant install tomorrow we will bring you an ac. We bought the "gold service" package. Get up one morning heat pump is clicking and not working, call them and am told will be the next day. I figure out it is the flood switch, dry it off and get my ac working again, they come out cant find a leak, and leave (The Tech I feel was really trying to find the problem) week later does it again. this time I see water leaking down the pipe, again gonna be another day. I dry out sensor and get ac working again, happens again see water is leaking from seam at coil unit, again another call another day. I get angry because I cant get my unit to start back, explain to the lady on the phone, want to know if she can have a tech call me so we are not sleeping in the heat, She tells me NO we don't do that. Now I am very angry, express that. They do get a tech out that night and he says " we have never seen one do that, coils are probably bad, we are going to order new coils and if that doesn't fix it we will have a supervisor come talk to you" Now my ac is freezing up my wife has to thaw it out every couple hours, she calls back only to be told "You know its summer, it might take a week or so to get parts" I am very aware it is summer because my house is not cool like it should be. Thing that gets me, is on my invoice for my "gold service" it says 24/7 when wife ask about that, she is told that just means we will answer the phone 24/7 and put you in line. These people have no clue what customer service is, when I asked to talk to a supervisor the lady on the phone tried to talk over me, I am your customer paying you a lot of money, and I want you to listen to my complaint. Unreal. I will tell everyone I know to stay away from this place. You know worst part is I knew the guys was BS'ing me about my old unit just didn't feel like messing with it anymore, and I wish I had researched this company better and read the reviews. I will not make that mistake again. I feel like with a brand new unit I should not have to be fighting, and while I know they are not manf of the unit, if they are not going to stand behind what they sell, then why are they selling it. I am on the Platinum Plan and have been for years. Whenever I have a problem with my HVAC system they come out right away and get it fixed (Weekends and Evening too). I especially like that they come out twice a year to service my unit. The only reason for the 4 stars is I felt sales pressure in the past from technicians. This seems to have gotten better over the last several visits. A technician came out last night and fixed a mistake a contractor made. At no charge to me, I assume because I am on the Platinum Plan. So word to the wise, have a licensed technician / company always work on your unit. I now won't let just any contractor near my HVAC unit. AC Genius Comfort Experts is a legit company. These people are terrible. I have already filed a complaint once on here and BBB. They contacted me and said they wanted to resolve it. I erased my poor review to give benefit of the doubt. Instead of coming out and assesing the damage the first service guy caused to my home they sent out another to fix the original issue they could not fix the first time. Charged me again but promised a service manager would be out to examine damage and make it right. I waited a week and nothing. I called last friday and they promised me that a service manager would be out the first of the week to finally resolve all the out-of-pocket money and problems I've dealt with but yet it is the end of that week and nobody has called. Do not try to contact me on here and do not even come out to my house now this is the most piss-poor service I have ever dealt with and nothing you can do will stop me from making sure every publication in this area has it on record. Do NOT use these people. Dishonest and overcharging is the name of their game. A service tech came out to check one of my units that wasn't cooling. He said the coil needed to be replaced and the system recharged. The lower unit was a "little low on freon" and would need to be "topped off". He quoted a price of $3,000 for the coil and $599 for each unit to be charged. So $599 for ONE pound of freon...that's what they consider a fair price. He said that was "standard for the industry". I called a different company the next day..same findings but they said the price on the coil was $1,900 and they charge $65 for ONE pound of freon. So $1965 vs. $3,599....yea. The tech arrived and greeted me with, "what's the problem?". I explained the issue and had to ask his name to know who was working on my HVAC. Pricing was parts and labor $477. I asked the parts cost and he said about $100. Minus the service fee of $50, that left a little over $300 for labor. I asked the time it would take and he said, "about 30 minutes". So I asked him to confirm if their rate was $600 an hour for labor. "We don't charge by the hour but have lots of overhead so that's the price", he replied. He also suggested I pay $300 for a 2"x4" plastic connector board as it is "loose and could be a fire hazard". I declined.. The tech explained nothing of the work he was doing or completed. He wrote up the bill and asked how I would be paying. When I asked for a review of the service he acted frustrated that I didn't just pay $500+ no questions asked... He gave me short answers to each question and then misquoted the company's labor warranty at 2 years where the back of the receipt said 1 yr. I called the service manager and got apologies, but no offer to discount such service. I wasn't really looking for one, but I would expect some kind of suggestion that I did not get what I paid for. Will not use them again obviously. They were quick to respond and seemed well priced compared to others, but their techs have no people skills, respect or understanding of their business from my experience. read more
