Nice rooms, nicer receptionists. Nice hot breakfast, nicer hot spa. Would stay there again if I happen to be strolling through Kansas.

They are pet friendly and have been able to get me on the first floor near a door no problem.

We then checked out a Super 8 across the street that was listed as pet-friendly but was so scary and poorly lit from the outside that it gave Bates Motel vibes. Cue Sleep Inn Colby, whose upcharge for our two dogs was a reasonable $20. There's abundant parking in a well-lit lot, the lobby is nice, the clerk was pleasant (and gave us a first-floor room at the end of a long, quiet hall), the wifi worked, the bed was blessedly comfortable, the room was clean, the luggage carts worked, the breakfast was solid, and I got a long and restful night's sleep prior to another 700+ miles of driving the following day. Chain hotels are usually poorly reviewed on Yelp, often for things beyond the hotel's control, because people have different travelling styles, schedules, and habits, and the other guests often end up annoying you. So maybe I'm grading up a little here, but I can say that I would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is right off of I-70; it's clean and well-maintained; conveneient to a number of restaurants and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and helpful; the beds are comfortbable and we got an excellent night's sleep. And the complimentary HOT breakfast was very good.

So, I book the M6 Colby less than an hour away from my travels on I70. I get there and realize that…read morethe walk-up price is $18 less than I paid online. Well, whatever, so I go in and tell the desk clerk (who I'm pretty sure is also the owner) that I made a reservation. He interoogates me about pets (which were alreay on the reservation) and then says that I didn't list a second guest, and that would be an additional $15. This is absurd, of course, and I haven't heard on any M6 doing this for a long time, and it was usually like $3 or $5 back when they did. I ask him what if I just take the walkup rate and then add a guest instead, and he tells me that would be the same price, even though of course it would not and he's simply lying to me at that point. So I go outside to talk to my spouse and then come back to begrudgingly agree to this shakedown. I'm then told that dogs are not allowed on the bed and that there would be a cleaning fee if they were. This is, of course, both beyond insane and a clear viloation of the "pets stay free" policy that the company stands behind overall--there's nothing in the fine print about keeping them locked in a crate while in the room with their people, or anything like that. At least--and this is important--he did agree to cancel my reservation and let me walk at that point when I was like, no deal. If you want to be nickel and dimed until a budget motel costs the same as a better brand with more services, please by all means come here and be cheated by this deeply dishonest and unpleasant man.
