I visited this store yesterday and had a great experience. I was thrilled to see so many different Brands of shoes, with many attractive styles, all to correct multiple foot problems. After 4 years of wearing black, clunky athletic shoes, it was wonderful to find a variety of shoes that actually work for me. I had a 100% positive experience with Mrs. Martha Bisher, a Certified Pedorthist. My appointment went far beyond the typical measuring: she examined my orthotics, watched my gait, observed my limited range of motion, and took detailed notes about my specific problems. She is professional and very observant. What a kind and genuine person! The other highlight of my visit was winning an in-store contest! Much to my delight, I was able to select a new pair of Aetrex walking shoes, all for free!! Yesterday.1/14/15 I was humiliated by Jesse when he first of all laughed when he repeated what I said, that I live in Missouri and my doctor was in Ohio, but then was insulted at his brisk attitude when he asked if I was ambulatory (I am in a wheelchair) and was defensive about getting shoes from Medicare, losing his license, etc. Today I spent quite a while on the phone with Medicare and they said I do qualify for the shoes under Medicare. I am not angry about the mistake so much as I am about how I was treated, like I was a vagrant trying to get something for nothing. Sarah, the receptionist, is much more qualified to deal with people than Jesse. She is extremely gentle and professional! read more

A few years ago we bought a pair of New Balance shoes for our son. We thought all was well with the shoes. Today, we went to Lauries shoes and had my son's feet measured. It was sad to find out comfort shoes sold us shoes that were too wide. Comfort shoes could have been professional and ordered a pair of shoes to fit. But they sold us what they had in stock. I am unable to speak to prior reviews of the previous owners and employees. What I do know is this: I had prior orthotics remade here in August, 2017 by an employee named Michelle. Patience, step by step, and careful adjustments made by her have led to the MOST comfortable orthotics I could have hoped for. It took Michelle and I several weeks of tweaking and trying it out to finally get it right. I cannot speak more highly of Michelle's knowledge and expertise. I will return to this store as long as she is there and will try to find her if she is not. My feet feel GREAT!!! read more

First, they have great, high quality shoes at a competitive price. I was not able to find the style and brand I purchased anywhere else for a better price, even on eBay. That said, my customer experience was not good. I did not schedule an appointment because even though it is offered on their website, it does not appear to be required and I did not know exactly what time I would be finished with a prior appointment and be in that area. It seems as an appointment IS truly required since I was treated rudely and later the staff made an aside about an apparently long time customer who was waiting because she did not have an appointment either. What I found to be most outrageous though was that I was helped by the general manager who attempted to sell me Nerium, an anti aging product. Doing even just a little basic research reveals that Nerium is part of a multilevel marketing scheme, similar to Tupperware or Cutco knives. Based on the reviews, people love it or hate it, but remember, I was at a shoe store, to buy shoes. There were several other things that rubbed me the wrong way that lead to me writing this negative review. Overall, I think there's other places in St. Louis I will go to purchase expensive, high quality shoes where I will be treated much better. read more

I am surprised that anyone would give this store a poor review!! I have been going there for about 8 years now, and they are the only ones who have been able to help me with my severe problems stemming from multiple orthopedic surgeries as a kid. Even the orthopedic sugeons and especially the podiatrists have NOT been helpful when it came to my gait issues. Comfort Shoes have made custom orthotics and custom shoe modifications for me, and have always been right on target. They helped my son who has very flat feet and has moved away, so he now mails his orthotics to their store for reconditioning or duplication. For individual service, you should MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, otherwise they may be working with other clients who were previously scheduled. Some people on here have been angry about this, and unfairly so. If you want to drop by and don't want to wait your turn, call ahead and check with them. Of course, you can always stop by to see if they can help you on the spur of the moment. Yes, the shoes and modifications are not inexpensive, but the shoes are the best quality, the CUSTOM orthotics and modifications are done in their store workshop by expert pedorthists and shoe lab technicians. I have worn one pair of Finn Comfort shoes for 3 years almost daily! Yesterday they put wedges within the soles of two pair of flat dress shoes, allowing my weak ankle to stay straight when I walk. The modifications are so well done, they are nearly invisible. Another issue is that there were prior complaints about the owner's personality. She has retired and sold the store. ALL of the people are very nice and will do their best for you. Just smile! read more

What horrible customer service. Went in this past Saturday to look at Birkenstock shoes for my daughter. The person who ended up helping us was sitting at the desk when we walked in and took forever to greet or help us. When she did, she got upset we were looking on our phones at colors of Birkenstocks because my daughter wanted a specific color. She also didn't mind telling us she did not like us being on our phones. We tried some on and then my daughter wanted to think about it and decide what color she wants. The person boxed up the shoes and just walked away, no thank you, we hope you come back, just rudeness. Now, I do not mind paying more to shop local, but not this store. I will take my business where it is appreciated. Worst experience ever! read more

Comfort shoe was awful when I went there before a trip to South America. I was not given any kind of 'fitting' that they advertise (although I watched someone else- also a walk in- get that done). I was told it wasn't necessary for me. I have problem feet and went there for that reason. I was there two hours and the salesman was perfectly nice but was more interested in telling me about his military service in Peru than he was in finding me shoes. He brought out one pair at a time (with a 5 min wait time in between- what was he doing?) and although I was super upfront about needing a waterproof hiking shoe, he started bringing out sandals, heels and boots?? Apparently they didn't have much in my size in the store- why not just tell me that instead of wasting my time!? I love shopping local, but I will never go back. read more

I am a huge fan of Comfort Shoe Specialists. The custom orthotics they make are so good. They have kept my feet happy for over 20 years. I am a hiker, backpacker, rock climber. My feet take a beating. Comfort Shoe keeps my feet from making me cry during intense activity. I have tried a lot of pre-made inserts and they don't work for me no matter how much I wish they did. I live in fear of this wonderful place going out of business. Yes, yes, yes, make an appointment. An appointment will respect your time and theirs. They really do try to help and without an appointment, they can't spend the time with you that your feet deserve. OK, I sound like a marketing person. I am not. Where do I start? Pushing, really hard, to sell me face cream (Nerium). Being rude, disrespectful, mean and just plain old unprofessional. Arguing with other customers. Cussing and throwing a fit, yes like a child, throwing things in the back room. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful to their staff. I sincerely hope someone from that place reads these. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS. The owner, Edith, is the most unprofessional person I have ever met. I have been going here for years and am extremely disappointed. When I told her I could not afford to get a pair of shoes built up with an orthotic therefore needed only the orthotic itself, she asked what my profession was then said "You should be more than able to afford this." She does not know a thing about my finances and this was a presumptuous and extremely rude thing to say to a customer, not to mention unprofessional. When giving me the price for my orthotic, which went up $60 from the last time I got one, I stated that was too expensive and not the amount I was used to paying. She then said in a snide tone "Well, you were getting quite a little deal back then, weren't you?". Her information about the orthotic itself was also less than accurate, when compared with multiple orthopedic surgeons I've consulted over the years, so not only is she a disrespectful and rude person, but not necessarily the best at her trade. Like another reviewer, on my first visit II did not know an appointment was mandatory and was read the riot act. They did some kind of foot imprint test but failed to tell me I would have to pay for it unless I bought a pair of their expensive shoes. The shoes I purchased were comfortable for a while but started rubbing the side of my foot. When I took them back this week, the specialist said he would "modify" the insole to make the shoe more stable. AFTER he did that, he advised me there was a $60 charge for this! During my exam, he told me I needed orthotics; when I asked how much they charged, he replied around $400. I told him that was very pricey, and I didn't know if I could afford it. He bluntly stated, "well, it's your feet". When I shared this with my podiatrist, he was not surprised at their obnoxious attitude and doesn't refer patients there. He stated he has heard they never allow returns. After going to Laurie's Shoes today, I purchased orthotics for $125 and was thoroughly evaluated and treated professionally and respectfully. The specialist said for me to come back if anything needed adjusting (no charge, no appointment), and they would make it right. In addition to orthotics, I purchased a nice pair of shoes. The atmosphere at Laurie's is totally different - people are nice (not uppity) and value their customers. They have bottled water for customers to drink while they are there, and a part of their motto is to smile at their customers so they leave with a smile on their face. read more

I was not pleased with my visit. I went into this store looking for comfortable shoes. I just wanted to find nice shoes nothing else. Instead I was pushed to buy orthotics. When I said I wasn't interested I was scolded by the salesperson (Jesse). He told me that I am harming myself and I should take his word for it and will regret it. Because I turned down his offer for "3D" orthotics which cost $435.00 the rest of my "service" was horrible. Besides being pushed to buy orthotics I had to listen to Jesse talk about his recent experience with kidney stones and how they put a stint in his urethra and how he had to pass kidney stones and other personal details that I could go my whole life without hearing. I did not go there to listen to his disgusting health issues. I have problems and j don't announce them to the world, especially a place of business. Speaking of pushing things, NERIUM. The store is called Comfort Shoe Specialists, nowhere in the name is there a mention of skincare. I found out the business isn't doing too good in sales so the owner pushes her workers to sell Nerium skincare. They push that more than they do orthotics. It is quite displeasing if you ask me. Also, the salespeople do not care for the concerns of their customers after they have been seen. The receptionist got a few calls when I was in from previous customers asking to speak with the person who helped them. Instead of picking up the phone and seeing what the concern was they told the receptionist to schedule an appointment and scolded her just for mentioning that a customer was on the phone. I felt sorry for the receptionist because she was sweet and also pregnant. And last but not least, don't bother scheduling an appt. They will be late coming out to see you. I overheard a customer say she waited 20 minutes after her scheduled appointment time to be seen by the owner. Turns out the owner was on her computer doing Nerium stuff on facebook. That goes to show how important her customers are. So to get to the point, I do not recommend going to Comfort Shoe Specialists. They have horrible customer service and are way overpriced. I would prefer going to Laurie's or anywhere else. read more

I bought two pairs of shoes here. Birkenstocks and they added height to the soul as I have one leg a bit longer than the other, just enough to cause hip pain. The shoe brand is comforatble, but there are some gaps in the seal of cut of whatever they use to give the shoe a thicker sole. I was burned by a pair of $300+ pair of Finn shoes. The person waiting on me said he wasn't sure they could add to height in the sole but they would try. They apparently cut through part of the sole by accident then tried to glue it on. The majority of the sole started to come unglued the 1st time I wore them so I took them back. They should have been replaced, but they reglued them, the same thing happened the 2nd time. I came back, a 3rd time, asked for a manager, and when I returned to pick up the shoes they look like a small child smeared glue all over the shoe to make the sole stay on. They looked terrible and they were for me to wear to work. It look like dried paste, smeared and lumpy on the sides of the soles that was very visible. I complained and they took them to the back and filed it off so now the soles had flat edges where the curves used to be. I complained that these were very expensive shoes and the should replace them but I guess the responsibilty was on me, I their eyes, since I bought them. Guess what? I wore them a 4th time and was too angry to go back again because I couldn't get them to properly repair or replace the shoes. They kept saying they could fix them, yet each time the sole came of. They sat in my closet for a few months because I was so upset with their service. They weren't kind enough to refund my money or offer a different pair of shoes so I threw them away. I just couldn't do business with them and can't imagine they would send that "quality" out the door. I wanted to take photos and post them on Facebook or just leave them at their shop. But, they frustrated me so much, I threw them away. Never again will I go back there! read more
