Really great store. The staff was greeted my wife and I and asked at least twice if we needed help and/or were looking for anything specific. I'm not the biggest comic book fan nowadays, but they seemed to have a wide collection at reasonable prices. Flyers available for local events and relevant shows. Also, we loved the art along the store. I'd like it if they sold more collectibles, but that's a bit nit-picky. Rooting for the hobby to keep going with comics, collectibles and trading cards, and having a place with a friendly staff (at least every time I've been there) is definitely worth rooting for. read more

This review is for their subscription box service, comic crate. My son is a comic book nut, has been since he was little. I am too, but it is hard finding the time to go to a comic book store and then figure out which comics are appropriate for him to read....the racks can get overwhelming (for both of us!) So when I saw this subscription service on cratejoy.com I signed up right away, and got him the PG-13 box (they offer a PG box for younger kids.) Six comics showed up a few days later and the kid is extremely happy! While I just got the one box to test it out, I plan on signing him up for a monthly delivery. We also plan on visiting the store for their game days, so he can finally get someone to play Munchkin with him! read more

As a lady comics lover it can be hard to find a shop that has the right feel. My basic criteria are: 1. Don't ignore me assuming I'm not really going to buy anything. 2. Don't treat me like I know nothing about comics because I'm a lady, but also I don't know everything so be willing to help and answer questions. 3. Don't make snide comments about the comics I like or choose to buy. 4. Friendly staff So I've been to a few shops in town and ultimately this shop ticks off all the above. I come in on weekends and have mostly dealt with Mo. After my second visit, having received the same kind of service, I decided to start a pull list. On my third visit I got my pull list set up and you get 20% off your comics. Nice perk. Today I came in to collect my first batch of comics and surprise- back issues were 60% off! It's their 30th anniversary - it feels good to support a local institution. So I've knocked down a star because things are a little old school. They only way you can hear about sales/updates is through FB (which I quit) and a paper flyer at the register-which if I'm coming in once/month it's not super helpful to hear about stuff. It would be great if they had a Twitter, or even better, an eNewsletter. I would also like more staff recs, especially for female fronted comics, and that is just not a thing they do at this store. We went into this store on Christmas Eve and the sales person was so engaged in gaming with the others at the table that we were never approached and asked if we needed any help or were we looking for anything special. We spent about ten minutes wandering around looking at things and we were never approached. When we finally left the store, the guy lifted his head to see us exit and still didn't say anything! Wow! This is by-far my favorite Sacramento area comic book store. The owner, Gene, is always willing to help find something (even if it was right in front of me, and I missed it). He's willing to search backstock for me and find old issues I need, and will order anything I want that he doesn't have. Yes, this is a comic book store. Yes, I am a woman. That doesn't stop me from going there to just hang out with the crowd and have good conversation, or just enjoy the atmosphere. A mix of Rush and Tool on the stereo, a big space set aside for a very active group of gamers, and not a girl to be found within blocks of the place. Yes my friends, we're in a comic book shop! I brought my son here hoping to share a little son-dad-super hero time. This shop does a good job of supporting the rookie with a good supply of the DC and Marvel basics. I've taken my son here a few times and the staff has always been very friendly. I know nothing about comics but my kid likes them. The folks here take the time to explain the age ranges of the books, the content, and any other concerns I have. There is a ton to choose from and they also have some really cool board games that I haven't seen at retail stores. read more

Back story: I've been removed from the comic book game for over 10 years now and decided to get back into it again. I used to go to this place back in the day with my older bro. I used to love spending my brother's paycheck there. Ha! I enjoyed going there. The place looked like it did back then, but only cleaner. The Good: First let me talk about the positives about this place. This place is huge and has a huge selection to go with it. Place looks like it holds a decent size crowd for gaming and other things. Well organized. The Bad: I've been in there twice and twice I've felt like I was a bother to them. Since I've gotten back into comics, I've been going to other comic shops around the area and I've received much better customer service than I received here. The two times I've entered the store I've said hello to the staff that was there at the time and never once from the two visits have I gotten a friendly greeting from them... that's just common courtesy. No one came up to see if I needed help or anything like that, looked like I was a bothersome to them and that I was interfering with them trying to jump into a game of some sorts with the regulars that were there. They are totally lacking the basics in costumer service unless you're a regular there. I've read some of the other positive reviews about this place and how great this place is. I wish I could have written a positive review, but from my recent experience I cannot. They get the 1 star for the huge selection and they get the other 1(which should really be a half star) star for the lack of common customer service. I would like to give this place another chance maybe third time is the charm, but not in the near future. It just sucks because I used to go to this place back in the day an enjoyed going there. I really like this shop and have had a "saver box" there for over six years. The employees are very friendly and will do their best to special order things for you. There's usually some sort of gaming going on when I go in. I don't play anything myself, but I think it adds a nice element to the store and if you are into that sort of thing, you might want to go there. read more

If you are looking for a basic comic store to get your first comic this is nice. A very laid back bunch, not so much a comic store but more of place people come to play card games. Probably the first time I found a comic store with so many unpriced comics. The price is looked up at the register from a comic guide, I'm not personally familiar with that method so it struck me as odd. read more

Came in today found a marvel super heroes secret wars 8 in Vf grade and other comics in the backstock. I was unable to get any sort of definite pricing for the purchase. The owner was called on the phone and the sales clerk used the overstreet price guide. The shop owner wanted near mint pricing for a Vf. Found a couple of other ASM comics with no additional price tags so assumed it was normal backstock. Since I found it in the backstock area, should at least be discounted. I understand that I wouldn't be paying cover price, but it should be as graded and with pricing so I won't have to come back again. Won't be shopping here again. Left without purchasing anything. read more

I've been visiting various comic book shops within the Sacramento area and I finally decided to drop by here during my free time. I was welcomed by one of the workers, which I believe was the owner and he directed me to the new releases of the week. Their entire wall of comics was really good to see and they have a great variety. They even had a nice selection of variant covers that I haven't seen in person. They had a large wall of X-Men back issues and had tons of back issues of different types of comics. Definitely a friendly staff and a chill place to look for comics. I've known Gene for practically my whole life. His wife used to work with my mom and I remember the day very clearly when he bought Comics and Collectibles. I was in front of him in line and bought a Pokemon booster where I pulled a first edition charizard and basically had a heart attack only for him to walk up and say "I want to buy this store." From then on I was hooked. 10-12 years ago it was massively kid friendly and a very popular hangout for Warhammer or table top games. After going there a few times, it has come to my conclusion that this is a pretty basic old fashioned comic shop. They have TCG cards, comic books, and board games. I wish the comic books were much more organized as sometimes when they do have sales it is a bit confusing as to which ones qualify. Do they include the ones under the bins or the ones behind the board games? Its not really straight forward sometimes. It's not modern at all. Heck their register is manual. Just make sure they ring you up correctly as everything has to be rung up manually without scanning the barcodes. read more

I'm glad I live close to this place. Not just because it's convenient but because the staff is friendly and provide good service. I stopped by and walked to the counter and asked for Smallville:Alien. The clerk walked me over to the comic and suggested some other books that I may like. They have more than just comics here. They have a nice selection of action figures, card games and trade paper backs. There's also tables there that anyone can use. I haven't used them though. But I did see people there playing card games or reading comics they just purchased. read more

I've been bringing my 16 yr old son here since he was about 7. A trip to C&C was a reward for being good. The owner is very knowledgeable about all things comic and after all these years, he still seems happy to see us when we walk in the door and he takes the time to introduce my son to new products. The place is not the fanciest in town, but the organization seems to work. My son can always find what he wants. I always appreciated how the comics for the younger set were separate from the items for the more mature shoppers - and the owner would always engage my son and make sure he found something "cool" in the appropriate section. My review is largely from my sons' perspective. As a mom, I really don't like going inside C&C. My son and I argue that if he has to go into Ulta with me to make up shop, I have to endure C&C with him. There's often a pretty good crowd in the place, some playing board games, others are shoppers. It's a haven for the comic lovers! Fisrt off. That place is filthy. Theres a bookcase on the west wall that has landscape peices for a tabel top game shoved into it. It looks dingy.. Just seems like the dont care. The selection of comics is pretty good. But its not really worth it. I cant say what i think about the customer service, because of the 15-20 mins i was there, i was ignored.
