While having some work done on my truck, my wife and I stopped at Common Ground for breakfast. Here's what I observed: The diner is physically small (30x40 maybe?), but well set up with a divider that avoids that warehouse ambiance that I don't like. It can easily seat about 50 people, plus an outside uncovered seating area that will accommodate another 50 in nice weather. The server took our drink order right after our arrival, but we had to send the coffee back because it was too cold. About ten minutes later, she took our order. There were 17 people in the restaurant, in two groups, so, the delay was not too bad. The prices are very reasonable. I became apprehensive about the food quality at these prices, but 17.5 minutes later my Western Omelette arrived, and it was delicious. My wife's eggs, bacon, and grits were also good (they serve a generous portion of grits in a bowl). The attentiveness of the servers needs some work. During the hour we were there, she checked on us only once, but she was close enough we could wave her over if we needed something. Overall, I would recommend "Common Ground" for a reasonably priced breakfast that meets usual expectations for breakfast fare. Don't stop here if you are in a hurry, but expect friendly servers to eventually bring you a breakfast worth waiting for. read more

Stopped in this morning for coffee. The girls working were very friendly and helpful. It's a quaint little place that has a steady stream of patrons. Hubby got a cold brew coffee which he enjoyed. The other members of our party also got beverages which were good. Overall we recommend. Stopped in for a second time and got some salads and they were delicious. Dingy and dirty looking inside. The service was rude even though we tipped. Didn't seem like they wanted customers. We were served iced lattes in hot styrofoam cups. The coffee was bad and I mean really bad. Army coffee is better, even hotel instant coffee is better. I'm not sure if they forgot to put the flavored syrups or if the coffee is just that awful. We won't be back. Seriously go to McDonalds probably less rude and less gross. read more

First, it's a great modern feel for the area. It's a cute spot. I didn't try anything in the pastry display. I did however get a sandwich on a croissant. It was very good, fresh, flakey. I told them I wanted mayo and lettuce, but they put tomatoes on it. Plus side, they were REALLY fresh so I picked them off no problem and didn't have to worry about my allergies. Coffee was pretty. It could have been more flavorful, but the coffee was smooth rather than tart. It was not overly sweet either. The French fries were on point. The chicken strips weren't dry, and they were definitely kid approved. We also had a spicy steak wrap, and they didn't hold back on the spice. The pickle fries, 10/10. Overall the food was great, coffee was possibly a 7/10, clean, and price was normal. The service was disappointing. I felt kind of uncomfortable like I was trying to make conversation with a high school clique that I had no business interacting with. I'm hoping it was just a bad day, and a return visit with extra pumps of flavor could make this a really great spot that I'd frequent more often during my visits to Baxley. read more

Rude customer service, $8 for this poor salad. Menu said it would include croutons but not a single crouton was in my salad. Very small portion compared to other places around the same price range. Coffee is also overpriced and atmosphere inside doesn't feel welcoming. I'm very dissapointed. read more

We were looking for breakfast and them. Not a coffee drinker myself but got an au lait. Hot Hot Hot I got the breakfast plate with scrambled and ham. The ham wasn't what I thought it would be but wunnerful nonetheless. The Bride got the breakfast bowl and said it was good. Stopped for breakfast, and it was great! Our family drives between Brunswick and Perry often and this is a great in between spot! We had bacon, egg, and cheese croissants. They were perfectly toasted, the bacon was well cooked, and the eggs were great! My daughter had a blueberry muffin, and it was light and fluffy. Coffee is good but I'm giving the 3 stars because the prices are ridiculously expensive. I ordered a Frappuccino with a shot of espresso and it was over $7! I like to support local business but I've never paid that much for a coffee. I was quite disappointed on the prices. Otherwise, the coffee was fine and the girl at the window was also fine. Amazing, friendly staff; welcoming, comfortable location; some of the best food I'd had in ages; and perfect drinks. I had one of their salads (I added grilled chicken, which was so delicious), and it was such a sublime blend of flavors that I didn't even add the dressing. The lemonade was full of flavor and sweet but not too sweet. The nonfat, sugar free vanilla latte was expertly made and tasted like I wasn't missing out on anything at all. I also had a fresh, homemade carrot muffin that was everything a muffin should be. If you're ever in Baxley, you have to stop by Common Ground. You'll be glad you did. read more

Common Ground is a coffee shop with an ambitious menu. Their name says it all. It may be the best coffee shop in town but that really isn't saying much. For $11.80 we got a double espresso, a medium Granny's Delight and two blueberry scones. The espresso is made with medium roasted Columbian beans that have a medium high acidity. The finished product's aroma wafts of a low quality commercially roasted coffee like you can find in any Huddle House. The flavor and color of this product is more like strong coffee than a true European espresso although it had been pressed and steamed through a commercial machine. There is little smoky taste and it is a bit tinny in flavor from the beans elevated acidity. It has no rich or buttery taste on the tongue or smoothness from the beans natural oils. The medium Granny's Delight was ordered without whipped topping. It had a very sweet taste with a heavy dose of coconut flavor of good quality syrup. But the artificial flavoring overpowered the coffee taste and therefore the drink was very light in taste of coffee. It was more like a hot coconut latte-cream drink beverage than an actual coffee. If you like sweet coconut flavored drinks it is quite suitable. The blueberry scones were commercial prep made with shortening and possibly some industrial baking margarine although no buttery flavor was apparent. They were densely doughish, almost muffin like, and not flaky or crumbly with no true scone/shortbread texture or flavor. Imitation blueberry flavor was added to enhance the flavor of the sparely added dried blueberries. For the area I would say this shop may be the best you can get and somewhat better than McCafe only because of the comfortable referb diner atmosphere. However the coffee is not as good as McDonald's and the food is definitely commercially prefab from suppliers for the most part. It is dark inside despite the large windows because of the heavy brown motif in furnishings and color scheme. The order counter is a bit cluttered with Christian literature and other "stuff". The space reminds me more of a BBQ shop because of the heavy wood seating and spacious interior. Overall the products have fair quality commercial taste. Reports from family and friends say that the lunch menu items taste of ok quality from the commercial type suppliers but nothing stands out as exceptional. The Best Restaurant in Baxley! Excellent food, excellent people, and excellent atmosphere all combine to form one amazing dining experience. I LOVE hanging out here with one of their top notch coffees and a delicious meal. The greatest thing about this place is the friendly environment that is great for hanging with friends, studying alone, or even just catching a great meal.
