I have not been in about 6-8 months. The last time, and first time, I went was with a church group. There was about 15 of us. The service was fair. Once the drink order was served we didn't see the waitresses until the food arrived. We had to get up and get extra napkins, more drink and clean utensils. When the food was served it was cold. A few of us had to return our order because of it. This could have been due to the size of our group. Although, we have eaten other places and not experienced the unpleasantness of our cold food. The restaurant was about 45 minutes from our house and we weren't given any incentive to return. The building and decor was very nice. Was like a log cabin/wood type structure. It was rather crowded and we had a wait. I guess I would go back with perhaps a smaller group, maybe 3-4 and try it again because the ones in our group who received their food at proper temp said it was good. I came here for the first time on Valentine's Day after their grand re-opening -- we had such a great night. There was piano and guitar playing which was peaceful. Although very busy, our server was great & the food was delicious! Their salad bar could fill you up alone... will definitely be back! read more

Our first time to this rustic culinary heaven, I enjoyed the daily special, a 14 ounce T-bone with sweet potato fries, mac-n-cheese, and an incredible soup and salad bar. Small things like an incredible glob of hot garlic butter on the T-bone, and fresh hot bread loaves, made the meal that much more delicious. Wonderful service by a marvelous college student named McKala made a lovely meal that much better. read more

Wonderful steaks! Best I've had and we are full time RVers who have been all over the bottom half of the U.S. Husband loves burgers and he said the burger here beat the 50.00 burger he had on his birthday few years ago at a fancy Charlotte restaurant. The hot bread and cheese spread were delicious! Salad bar was good. This place would make a great farm to table restaurant being surrounded by all the farms. To source local fresh vegetables and offer them would up their game even more. We would definitely drive an hour to go here again! read more

After hearing what a great place this was, Hubs and I tried. I must say, not terribly impressed. Very pricey. I get the "Historic" atmosphere but seriously needs some basic TLC. Salad bar wasn't impressive. Steak was decent but had an odd, sweet marinade. I will say the bread was very good. Soup I tried was Chicken noodle(I think) and even in the soup kettle, it was lukewarm. This place was MORE expensive than Longhorn and just not that great at all. I did think the service was good. Waitress attentive and sweet. Please be aware NO CREDIT OR DEBIT and it's way out of the way on a dirt road. read more

This restaurant is a good place to eat if you are ever in the area. The steaks are phenomenal and rank right up there with those I have eaten in New York City. Only these are cheaper and served with better service. The salad bar is good as well and the lettuce is fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone. Only CON: the restaurant can be dark in places so ask the lady up front to put you under a light else it can sometimes be hard to see. read more

Been over 20 years since last time we visited , extremely disappointed. Shrimp was frozen not fresh probably could've done better to get it at captain Ds and the fish was Alaskan polluck .We were a party of 12 so everyone got something different. the Delmonico was tuff the filet was dry and why I will say the marinated sirloin was tender as it was but the marinade taste itself was Awful. As for the sides the potatoes were dry and discolored brown and hard on the inside and the salad bar was just shredded iceberg like for tacos . Sonny's has a better salad bar . If you like overpriced below average food and unleveled floors and dim lighting this is your place but Save your $ and head just about anywhere else B&Js in Darien for steaks or blueberry hill in Hoboken for the atmosphere you can think me later. read more

If you have a taste for country, from the decor to the food this is the place. It's in the middle of nowhere but it is worth the ride. The restaurant is set on a small fishing pond in what looks like a sharecropper's shack decorated with old tools and broken down wagons. Went with a party of 8. Everyone ordered something a little different and all the food we got was outstanding. Steak, seafood, and even fried quail. All of it was delicious and cooked well. Salad bar was full and fresh, and the staff seemed very attentive and courteous. One thing to note...it's all "old school" so no credit/debit cards of any kind. Only cash or check. This was not a first time visit. We were with a group of 24 and I was very pleased with the promptness of drinks being served and orders taken. Soups of the day were vegetable and crab. I tried the crab soup, it was delicious! Salad bar had several tasty salads. I ordered the fried seafood platter, it was a big disappointment. I cut into the fish, I've never seen the likes of it, cannot explain it, except that it didn't appear cooked. The waitress took my plate to the kitchen, later returned with my food without the fish, told me they were cooking me another piece of fish. By this time, the scallops, oysters, and shrimp were no longer Edible. The waitress brought out my piece of fish, I cut into it, it was worse than the first piece. I looked at the waitress, nodded my head 'no'. She said something about cook being new. She was very nice asked what else I would like to order in it's place. I just told her 'no thanks'. She left, returned to say they weren't charging me for my food, I told her I had eaten a small portion from the salad bar and a taste of the crab soup. They did not charge me. We ate there on a Friday evening around 6:00. I got the shrimp which my husband also got.. The salad bar was included. Within 10 minutes of leaving, I was throwing up on the side of the road - food poisoning. Had to be something off the salad bar that I had different from my husband since the entree and sides were the same. Would I ever eat there again ? NO! read more
