A Life Was Saved -- And We Will Never Forget It…read more There are moments in life when you meet a physician who is not just practicing medicine -- but answering a calling. That is who Dr. Jay Rathod is. My sister's condition shifted rapidly from stable to life-and-death. In those terrifying hours at Woodland Memorial Hospital, Dr. Rathod did something extraordinary. He did not simply follow protocol. He fought. He pushed relentlessly for her transfer to Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto when others might have stopped. He advocated, escalated, persisted, and refused to accept "no" when her life literally depended on it. Because of his urgency and determination, she was airlifted to Stanford -- something we were told had never been accomplished before from Woodland Memorial. This wasn't routine care. This was someone fighting for my sister when it mattered most. I saw it in his eyes. I felt it in the room. That kind of advocacy changes outcomes, families, and lives. You cannot pay someone to care the way he cared. You could see it in his eyes -- his soul was invested. He did not treat her like a case. He treated her like a human being whose life mattered deeply. In my heart, I believe he is truly an angel. I also want to recognize Julie (RN). In the middle of chaos and uncertainty, she remained calm, attentive, and compassionate. As my family watched conditions change rapidly from bad to extremely worse and terrifying, she grounded us. She explained. She reassured. She moved with competence and grace. Her heart is gold, and her presence made an unbearable situation feel so much lighter in those moments of pure chaos. Sam and the entire nursing staff also showed care and professionalism that we will never forget. Every small act -- every check-in, every word, every adjustment -- mattered more than they know. This review is written with deep hope that ICU Manager Adrion Gudino and Director of Inpatient Services Celeste Sontoni see it, because leadership should know the caliber of professionals they have on their teams. Dr. Rathod saved my sister's life and Julie and the nursing team held our family together while he did. There are no words big enough for our gratitude -- but please know that what they did will echo through our family for the rest of our lives. With profound thanks and eternal gratitude, Gurveer Kandola

I truly wish I could rate NVIH Medical and NVIH Behavioral separately because I'd give Medical 5…read morestars - but Behavioral, well, ONE star would be too generous. NVIH medical has progressed into an excellent facility. The current medical staff, although clearly very busy, is extremely caring, takes time with patients, and is surprisingly efficient. Everyone I've encountered is friendly and I've had a couple of doctors and nurses go far above and beyond to assist me in various ways. If you're looking for solid medical care, I strongly recommend NVIH. A big plus, btw, is that if you need blood labs done, you can do it right at at NVIH - no making an appointment with Quest and all that hassle. Unfortunately, I have nothing positive to say about Behavioral Health. It seems that good therapists don't stay and the not-good therapists don't leave. I will come right out and say that there are at least a couple of therapists at NVIH who should not be practicing, because they do more harm than good. Seriously: look elsewhere if you need professional mental health help.

He listens to every problems and pain you're having. But Behavioral front desk staffs are very unfriendly and rude! We walked in and this girl named Wendy are unhappy with her Job! She gave us look like she doesn't want to assist us. Another worker walked in just to gossip with the worker Wendy. Both whispering. Lisa is just doing her own thing. People like them you don't want to come back to this place. They don't care they only care about their job and getting paid, not their patient. But Medical are the best! Highly recommended.

Okay, so I'm going to write this up because I feel like crisis centers and homes and mental health…read moreare just as important to the community as pizza is. When I tried looking up these things I found little personal accounts - so if this helps one random person find a place and realize they're not alone, I'd be glad. Safe Harbor was my direct spot after being the mental hospital for a few days. The whole idea of the crisis home is extremely helpful. It's a place you can go to get away for a little bit to clear your head, but to do so in a home like environment. It's a 100 times better idea than a psych ward. You get the space to think, reflect, and relax without feeling like a patient. At Safe Harbor the rooms are really spacious, with decently comfortable twin beds in double rooms. There is a living area with a big TV, a kitchen, a dining area, a space for doing crafts, and a bunch of board games. The little garden in the center outside with a bench swing is really peaceful, as well as the patio in the backyard. Most residents spend their time sitting out there or laying in the grass, there is a basketball hoop too. Most of the staff is made up of young adults from UC Davis. Some of them are extremely helpful and kind, they are always available to just talk or check in. A few of them seem to not really get it, or to have an understanding of how to help, but it's cool. Their personalities might connect with different people. The main complaint I have is they wouldn't give me caffeine because some people in the house couldn't have it due to their medications. Keeping everything fair, alright - but then all the workers got coffee EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Good Gawsh Golly, give a girl some coffee. But yet like every other place ... why the hell can I chainsmoke cigarettes but not have some espresso? It doesn't make sense, but whatever - just don't do something directly in front of me that you're restricting me from. Overall, I can see how this would be helpful if you need a few days to stay somewhere safe and clear your head.

What is the point of an app if it doesn't show all appointments? Third, the NP didn't look at my labs before she came into the room. She said they looked good, but there was a concern that I, myself, had to point out! Fourth, I was told in a blasé way that I probably have a certain condition. I was told there was no link between this and something else I have going on, but with my own research I easily found the two are FREQUENTLY RELATED! Did she not know this? I was left without answers. Fifth, I apparently needed follow up about an another issue, but no one told me. I found out after imaging contacted me to schedule a follow up. This is unacceptable. No one offered any explanation or cared to think this could be scary for a patient. Finally, my results do not show on the app despite the fact that they have been interpreted already and raised a question. This is awful patient care. Where is the dignity in that?
