That loss imprinted itself deep in my body and mind, and for the last 15 years of my adulthood I've been committed to healing: therapeutic retreats, DBT, EMDR, pharmaceuticals, somatic therapies, nutrition, exercise, and faith-based practices. Each pursuit offered some measure of relief from depression, anxiety, and mood disorders, but nothing touched the core. I discovered Satya Therapeutics through a friend who said, "If I did psilocybin therapy in Oregon, I'd go to Ashland -- that town has the vibe." I reached out and was connected to Bern. From our first conversation, Bern carried a presence that immediately put my mind at ease. Within a week, I was on a flight from Texas to Oregon. Bern brought a compassionate courage to the room that words can't fully measure. Leading up to the session, he spent hours guiding me to clarify my intentions -- work that proved invaluable once the medicine took effect. My first journey was epic and indescribable; in short, it became a Lord of the Rings-like pilgrimage through my life. I experienced deep forgiveness for people and parts of myself that hadn't measured up, and I began to see myself as strong and courageous rather than a victim. The ending of that journey was heavenly -- a visceral, living knowledge of a perfect eternal spiritual realm existing alongside my physical life. It felt complete and lacking nothing, with no more fear of living -- or of death, for that matter. Over the next few months, Bern and I spoke often about integrating the first experience into my life and came to realize another journey was needed. For the intentions that were emerging, we felt called to include a woman facilitator, and Meixa joined the team. Meixa brought a warm, compassionate embrace that was profoundly special. My second journey with Bern and Meixa was nothing short of miraculous. For about four hours I was able to deeply remember my brother -- his life, the significance of his loss, and the grief that had lodged itself throughout my entire body. Waves of anguish and pain surged through me, and Bern and Meixa guided me gently but firmly through releasing it all. Coming out of the session felt like a dam of love and wholeness had finally broken open -- the kind of love I hadn't felt since before my brother's death. I'm only a few days out, but everyone close to me notices the change: my demeanor, my energy, my very presence. I even went surfing this weekend, and my longtime surf partner said he hadn't seen me surf with such soul before. I'd agree -- the barrier of pain and anguish between me and the world is gone. At 34 weeks pregnant and only 6 weeks to go, you would think I could manage to ignore the pain and…read moresuffering I was experiencing since around 22 weeks just a little longer...but I finally listened to my doctor after every other obvious treatment (tylenol, staying off my feet, support belts) to eliminate the Severe Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD) and Belly pains (from what ended up being 5 finger ab separation-"diastasis recti") failed to suffice....and check out acupuncture for the first time in my life. What did I have to lose? I was desperate for any improvement as 6 more weeks seemed like an eternity! I went to the first available acupuncturist I could find within my insurance network and after 1 visit, I didn't feel any improvement, nor did I expect to after 1 session, but since I was desperate, I thought I might as double down and try another acupuncturist the same week that a friend recommended and up my chances. This visit was with the incredible Jeremy Rothenberg. On our first meeting, he allowed ample time to listen to my concerns and issues and was genuinely anxious to do everything he could to rid me of my ailments right then and there. After that first session with him, it was like "MAGIC!" I exclaimed as I got up from his acupuncture table and felt NO pain instantly. It seemed impossible since my pain was so severe, I was mystified and amazed at the same time. The pain reappeared later that day but to have been relieved of it for even hours, was simply a miracle. I quickly booked up Jeremy's calendar and returned as often as I could for these miraculous sessions and with each session, the absence of pain grew longer and before I knew it, I delivered my healthy baby boy (with a much easier delivery than my first which I wouldn't be surprised is also a result of my acupuncture treatments with Jeremy). Thankfully, after the birth, my SPD and belly aches disappeared immediately and entirely, but once I am out of the newborn phase and more independent, I plan to return to Jeremy's office to maintain my overall good health and I recommend him to everyone I can in the meantime! Another time I went in for a queasy stomach that wouldn't go away. He gave me some Chinese herbs to drink and while I think most people would be challenged by the taste, I actually liked the way it tasted like earth. In any case it fixed me up completely. The latest thing was my left shoulder had been oddly impinged when trying to raise it up (like when you put on a coat). Once again, a few needles and it improved greatly. Of course I went in a few more times to make sure the channel stayed open. I like to combine the acupuncture session with a cranio-sacral session. David is so calm and thoughtful. I know I can count on him to really pay attention to what I need. I cannot recommend him more highly. If you schedule an appointment you might want to schedule two or three a few days apart because he is super busy and tends to be booked out a long ways. Absolutely worth the wait!
