edit and update... still going to these guys four years later (last visit was year 2024 but we'll continue to go to them every year - we actually called Community Eye Care each year they weren't taking our insurance when it changed hoping they would start taking our insurance again until one year they did and we happily switched back to Community Eye Care right away when they said yes :) ).... and still very happy with them! Original year 2018 review follows here: (This is the same review I posted on google so it may look familiar :) ... since as far as I'm concerned the same comments apply I didn't see a problem with leaving the same review here on yelp which I have used along with google reviews to decide where to go for service. I have to admit I am amazed at the negative reviews on yelp especially given our family's years of positive experiences with them... I'm not calling the other reviewers liars but ... it's just really strange, totally not the experience we had at all.... if you check google reviews, at the time I post this you will see there are more reviews for Community Eye Care there which are pretty much all 4 and 5 star reviews.) I should start out by saying shame on me for not writing a review of Community Eye Care earlier ! We have been going to them for well over a decade now, excluding the years when we were forced to stop seeing them due to our health insurance company deciding not to include them among our list of accepted providers for some reason. Fortunately things changed after a few years and we could start seeing our favorite optometrist and his staff again :) .. while the staff working underneath the optometrist has changed over the years their commitment to excellent, caring customer service hasn't - always a pleasant experience going in there both with the optometrist and his staff and of course we're very happy with the glasses we've purchased from them over the years... My wife, daughter, son and myself all purchase our glasses from him and will continue to do so for a very long time :) read more

I am happy to be a patient of this business. Dr. Machiela and his staff are both professional and caring. I like that I can make Saturday appointments or stop by after work if I need an adjustment. They listen to my concerns, and Dr. Machiela explains my conditions in a manner that I understand. Finding suitable eyeglass frames poses some challenges. Both of the optical assistants were very helpful, and the three of us had a good time as I tried frames on. I look forward to going back when my glasses come in. read more

The Dr. is fine, but he has a n incompetent liar working for him, he never discussed bi-focals with me and I sure as hell did not tell him "I was fine with a line in my glasses. He told me we talked about bi-focals at length, and I was Ok with them. WHEN PIGS FLY I WOULD WEAR BI-FOCALS!!! My bill was $497 I waited 3 weeks for the contacts, and then they called me and said I would have to wait longer, I told them to refund my money and I would get them for 800 contacts inside of a week! I returned the bifocals as I won't wear them and I got my $180 back for a transitions charge, he has a problem using insurace for some reason. When I picked up my glasses , I was fitted for them with my contacts on so I did not realize they had given me bi-focals, everywere else would have asked you to remove your contacts to see if you could see in the new glasses, very incompetent staff there! Don't go there, they won't use your insurance!!! read more

I would not recommend them. Their customer service is horrible. They don't have to talk to people on the phone. They're rude and arrogant. They put you on hold and forget about you. They don't like the fact that you put a review about them on the Internet. So what they do is they come back and their response Is vindictive vicious and a vile lie of defamation of character and perjurious remarks. I would not recommend them I would not trust them I would not believe them. They definitely need some customer service skills big time. It's not the doctor's fault it's the people working for them. Considering that I checked their background with other sources and other people have had complaints about the customer service and their actions. Their way of getting back at you with a bad review is to make up lies and stories. I know you can do better elsewhere read more

I would NOT recommend this place to any new contact lenses user. I paid them $140.00 specifically to do a contact lenses exam and fitting for my fifteen-year-old daughter. I found the $140.00 fee pretty high considering other places in a 10-mile radius charge between $75 to $120 for the same service. I agreed to pay that amount thinking that my daughter would have a better first time experience. Nevertheless, unfortunately, it was totally the other way around. When she went for her fitting  appointment, she was told she first had to learn to touch her eyeballs with her bare fingers before they would allowed her try on the contact lenses. My daughter did as she was told. Her eyes got so irritated, watery, and much more sensitive for touching her eyeballs with her bare fingers. By the time they allowed her to try on the contact lenses, she could barely keep her eyes open. Hence, she was not successful at it. If I or her two older siblings would have been told that we had to touch our eyeballs before trying on contact lenses for the first time, none of us would have been successful either. Her two older siblings have been wearing contact lenses for over five years; thank God I took them somewhere else. My son, who has a similar prescription as my my daughter, actually lent her his contact lenses for her to practice before her next fitting appointment, but she was not able to practice because she said she was told at the eye care place to touch her eyeballs with her bare fingers before trying on the contacts and her eyes get irritated... naturally. She is so traumatized by this experience! I cancelled her next fitting appointment. In conclusion,  I paid this business $140.00 to specifically get a contact lenses prescription (not an eye glass prescription) for my daughter, and did not get a copy of the contact lenses prescription, nor a refund of the payment. Moreover, now my daughter is so traumatized that she has to touch her eyeballs if she ever wants to wear contact lenses. read more

My daughter went to her normal eye care dr this morning. Normally her insurance covers her exam. She was interested in getting contacts instead of glasses. Out 3-4 years dealing with this company we have never had a problem. Today however (now that she is 18) they told her AFTER the appointment that her exam was 125.00 and the contacts would be 300+. She asked why wasn't her insurance covering the exam. She was then told they are no longer in network with her insurance. And "refused" her to leave without payment. So she called me. I went and asked why wasn't insurance verified at the time the appointment was placed. No answer. Why when she checked in and had her ID and insurance card why was it not checked or verified. Therefore the patient can determine what services they wanted? No answer. I politely said bill us and left. Then this happened.... they called the police.how is this legal? In any capacity. HIPPA has clearly been violated. Up until now I still have not verified this sherriff officer is authentic. Called the office and they are no help. If they can file charges on her for non payment. Why cant she file charges of kidnapping? She could not leave at her own will? Community rip off. They deserve -15 stars. I'm happy with insurance not how you guys violated HIPPA laws or how you're clearly scamming people. You hold kids for Ransom. A joke!! read more

This place deserves a -5 they are extremely dishonest. These people are so money hungry, on top of their overpriced fees they charged me a hidden fees in me receipt, which they later described as a material fee (which only applies when you purchase glasses from them). I contacted my insurance provider about my concern, and they explained to me that I should not have to pay the fee since I only got contacts from them. When I contacted Community care about getting a credit for their mistake, they refused to give me a credit back and were very unresponsive about it. DO NOT GO HERE they will rip you off. THEY DO NOT CARE about their patiences. read more

"Old Fashioned Service", is on their business card but it t should read "No service"!. My mother, just had cataract surgery and according to her insurance she was entitled to one eyelass after cataract surgery. She had been going there for years. We dropped of the eyeglasses to have the lenses replaced and were assured that the new glasses would be ready in approximately 1 week. 8 days later I called to see the status only to learn that they couldn't find my mothers records at all and didn't remember her at all. I talked to salesman who helped us and he was totally clueless. Finally with a third call he located her file and eyeglass's on Doctors desk. In summary the Doctor had my mothers glasses on his desk for 8 days without a call to me or her because he could not find her name in the Healthcare System. He didn't even attempt to call the Insurance Company. What Doctor would do this-especially if the patient is a 92 yr old , walker, and in great need of her glasses. Is this the kind of service you would want? read more
