I used to go to this place when Dr Schiable owned it and it was awesome. I wouldn't take my dog there now. I made an appointment with Dr S.B to have my punctal plugs put in as the had come out and I was in extreme pain. I had to wait a week for the appointment, waisted a couple of hours to get in with her. she told me I'd have to come back in a couple of weeks to get them. She and most of the staff were uncaring and unkind. I will never return. Dr France is fitting me in this week to get me out of pain. I will stay with Franz Eye care from now on and NEVER recommend Community Eye. They are the absolute worst! read more

The doctor & people working there seemed nice however I was trying to get contact lens. They gave me a trial & it wasn't right, Trial pair 2nd wasn't working either. The 3rd one was best but still not able to see at night. i was told they wont be perfect (which i knew) and they don't do this many tries & i would have to pay again! I had an appointment for this morning that was made 6 months ago. That's how often i have to go. I arrived and was told i didn't have an appointment, that the schedule had changed. I've had several problems with the eye center. First I went to a Dr there to get treated for droopy eye lids and he only gave me eye drops which burned my eyes. When I went back he started telling me about how he was a veternarian. I didn't go there to get wormed but eye lid surgery, so I left. Than we had an appointment and when we arrived we were informed that they dropped our insurance and never informed us, so we wasted a day. They should have contacted us. They seem more concerned about collecting insurance money than treatment, and the staff are not friendly. read more

I told their billing department about the overcharge and they agreed, promising to make a refund. But it is now over 60 days later and no refund. Worse still, the a refund wouldn't go through anyway. I and my mother have been using Community Eye Center for about 5 years. Recently they have been bought out by Quigley. And this is what has happened. There are no more racks and racks of eyeglass frames. There was a time when this place was packed and people were always trying on frames. There was a great selection of styles and prices. Now you have a choice from about three designer's frames with one of those locked up. The frames are starting at about $219.00 and go up. Maybe this is because of Covid? I'll tell you one thing that's not because of Covid is the staff's lack of interest in helping you. They make a copy of your prescription, and say bye bye. When you tell them you have insurance they act annoyed and make ONE attempt to get your information. If they can't in one attempt, they leave you standing this whole time and tell you 'I can't get in with the last 4 digits of your social so you must have a unique password and you'll have to call them.' What? That's it. My mother's insurance was treated about the same way from another employee. I remember having the help of staff to pick out the frames, a complete and thorough explanation of what your benefits will and will not pay for and explanations of what things you had to choose from with your lenses. I saw 4 employees at desks in the back and no client in the chairs. Why are they even there and what do they do? I mean you get your exam then the doctor comes in for 5 minutes and says okay then....... I'm at a loss what those other people in the back do. They aren't checking your insurance. They aren't helping you get frames and lenses. All I can say is this change is a big mistake. People like one stop shopping. Now my mother and I are going to take our prescriptions somewhere else to get our glasses. And wherever we end up will get our complete business next year when we go for another eye exam. They are only concerned about MONEY $$$$$$ They billed insurance company for an appointment that they did not have, I reported them. Was told I need cataract surgery on both eyes was told that it would be $ over $3200. per eye for the premium lens and insurance doesn't cover it. They run expensive ads on TV stating "They Care" THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY $$$$$$$ I had my surgery done at an other office Starting with a "Z" and each lens was only $1850.00 for Premium Lens. I was told by Dr. Eric Schaible that it was the industry standard on Pricing and that there was nothing he could do on the cost. read more

Just went for my yearly eye exam. I was asked if I wanted a prescription for my glasses and I said yes. Why would I want an eye exam without them writing it down?! She said that will be $42. I said for a prescription?! Yes, your insurance doesn't pay for it. You're charging me for a script for my eyeglasses. Yes, your insurance doesn't pay. WHY are charging me for a prescription? My gosh, some of the money my doctors could make for charging me for each script they write! I'm running through my head $42 for script and $32 for refraction (last time), so $74. I told her my insurances and that the one insurance covered eyes, Vision Care Affinity. Do you have insurance that pays? I repeated them four times and I admit, I was getting fed up. I asked for the office manager; no one came, it was already past time of my appointment and they were still checking me in and I arrived 15 minutes early! I left, came home, called for office manager. She told me it's refraction insurance won't pay for, which I already knew. Ok, why did she say you were charging me for a script for glasses? They are the same thing. I'm not an eye dr, so telling me you are going to charge for a prescription doesn't sound too good. I loved Dr Simoneau, but the office is run awful. It's great to grow over the years, but if you are always behind at the least 30 mins, that is way too long. I've even tried being first patient in the am and that doesn't work to keep you from waiting. Cataract consult they tell you ahead of time will take a couple hours. 45 minutes of that was waiting in waiting rooms! I was told by an employee in optical when I first started going there not to buy my glasses there because they marked them up too much, so have been going elsewhere to buy my glasses. The worst service I have ever experienced with any company bar none. I carried a tray, was followed by staff and was rushed. I tried some frames on without the benefit of clear vision (I am blind without my glasses). The staff said, "No rush, I don't have anywhere to go." Although, there clearly was a rush as there were several people waiting that she kept looking at. She stated, "My boss is trying to make a point" and she rolled her eyes. When I signed the agreement, I was unaware that I was signing a document that said, "No refunds for any reason." The glasses I chose did not fit my face. When I got up to leave, the staff said in a loud voice, "Now you can't change your mind anymore! And she used my name. A friend said, "Wow, I didn't know you were going there, I would have warned you, they are the worst". I've had to walk in their door about seven times. I have never had a more inept experience with a business in my life. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Two months later, my glasses are still not finished. I just needed an adjustment, but they were closed because they couldn't finish their work during the week, so they take a day off to do it. Disgusting. read more

I was referred to a Dr At Community Eye Care for cataracts by Quigley(nasty front desk clerk- she yelled as if I was across the street). I don't know if it was because my complexion is dark. Very nasty. Anyway before I could get to Community 45 minutes before the appointment I got a call telling me that their system was down and that they were not able to access anything. The employee offered me the option of rescheduling. She said that she'd call me back when the system came back up. A day later I'm still waiting. Later that day I got a text message from Quigley informing me that I missed my appointment. I had to explain to Diana that Community called me to inform me that their system was down and would call me back to reschedule when the system was back up. I had been having doubts about continuing with Quigley & Community Care due to the foul attitude at Quigley. I went to CEC Port Charlotte to have my prescription filled for new eyeglasses/frames after my eye exam 2 days ago. I walked in, signed in, was shown where to sit, but my husband could not join me. I was then asked what I was there for. My response: New glasses (ie. frames, etc.). I was then shown to another side of the room and given a number. My number was called and I was shown to a cubicle and asked what I was there for. My response: New glasses (I had a RX in my hand). Again, I was in the wrong area and taken to yet another section. My name was called and I was AGAIN asked what I was there for. New glasses. I was then told well its going to be a while b/c there are 3 people in front of you and "unfortunately we don't take appointments." Geesh! What a nightmare. They are so disorganized that I left and went to Eyeglass World where I had a great experience. read more

I'm going back to Frantz Eyecare. My annual exam was scheduled this morning for 8AM at Community Eye Center with Dr. Schaible. I was seen by the first tech at 8:35. After her exam, she dilated my eyes for Dr. Schaible's exam which didn't happen until 9:35. I think the care that I received was very good. But the time it took from being there on time before 8AM and walking out of Dr. Schaible's exam at 9:35 was ridiculous. At least when compared to my previous experiences at Frantz in Punta Gorda. After finishing with Dr. Schaible, I was supposed to go to the appointments desk to set up my appointment for next year, then to the Optical department for new glasses. I did neither and I won't be back. I switched to Dr. Schaible at the recommendation of a friend. Not because I was dissatisfied at Frantz. Lesson learned. read more

They are constantly 30 minutes or more late for their own appointments. My time doesn't matter to them. It is a money pit for patients. They schedule unnecessary appointments and even use an F & I man like a car dealership to upsell their goods and services. After cataract surgery, I now have two different color lenses. My profile still says I live in Henderson, NV but I moved to Port Charlotte on 9/9/18. I just went to Community Eye Center the other day for my annual eye exam. I love this place. Pam greets you as soon as you walk in the door and signs you in. I never have a long wait time and everyone is so friendly. Michelle took care of me at the beginning and end of my visit and Brian was very efficient and answered all of my questions. Dr Simoneau greeted me like I was an old friend. I always feel comfortable and well taken care of and never feel rushed. Everyone is friendly and all had a smile on there face. I am so glad I chose Community Eye Center for my eye care. I had my cataract surgery at St Lucy's next door and they were the same way. This had been a real blessing to me. Can't say enough good about this place. I would highly recommend it. read more

these people are scam artists. My wife used her newly achieved insurance and set up an appointment for an eye exam and a pair of reading glasses. The total cost to her....$430.00. Of course we are fighting it. She paid 185.00 the day of and thought it was final, 2 weeks later we received another bill for 240.00. What she did was used her own frames to try to save money but as we found out later it actually cost more to use your own frames(go figure). Went there for my once a year exam against my better judgement. I was told costs are covered by my insurance. Paid my $45 copay and received the exam. Was told they could do a laser correction to one eye and insurance would cover all except $150. I said Ok and came back for the appointment where they wanted me to sign a statement saying I was responsible for cost of $1500 if my insurance did not pay. I refused to sign, I've been bit by that before. They said my insurance would pay. So, no laser. Couple of months later I get a bill in the mail for $32.00 for refraction on the date of my exam. My insurance paid them $103 for a comprehensive exam and I paid them a $45 copay. In my opinion this place is nothing but a rip off with sleazy business practices. Dr. Spaulding and Dr. Spadafore have me seeing 20/20 again after an eye infection. All the staff from billing to the gals at the front desk are so kind. As for the doctors they're were so patient and gentle explaining my issue. I'm so happy to have found Community Eye Center. I feel genuinely cared for and that they genuinely enjoy their jobs!!! Not enough staff to cover the over scheduling. Customer service not very desirable. Don't waste your time/money go someplace else. Even Walmart for better service & better prices and heck of less wait times. After being there for an hour and a half I walked out and went to Walmart and got seen within 30 minutes. As a walk in. Again don't waste your time scheduling an appointment. They over-schedule BIG time. Your wait time will be at least an 1 1/2 to 2 hours if not longer before you decide to leave as well. The optical department for the Port Charlotte Community Eye Center does not coordinate with their offices in North Port or Venice. i returned a pair of glasses because the lens kept falling out. That was three weeks ago. I just found out that it took them two weeks to send my frame to their North Port office and from there it was sent to the lab. It is still in process. I get different stories from each office. The Port Charlotte optometrist told me that they have an interoffice mail service each day. The North Port optometrist told me there was no such thing. What I would like to know was where were my glasses floating around for over two weeks? ? Sitting in someones desk drawer? I would definitely NOT recommend this company. I also had to have my eyes examined two times. The first eye exam resulted in a pair of glasses that made my stomach sick. The second eye exam turned out to be completely different and was acceptable except for the fact that the lens was not fitted properly. read more
