Her grades and her confidence have both improved. She likes going, which is saying a lot for a moody junior higher. My high schooler ASKED to go because she saw how much it helped her sister. Yatin is an amazing director who is empathetic and smart. You can't go wrong here. And remember, yes it costs a freakin' lot, but it is an investment in your child's education and their self-esteem. The teachers are incredibly dedicated, passionate, and selfless in the work they do each day. The principal has clear goals and vision for the school and works tirelessly alongside the staff to continue making OLF the best it can be. Upon arrival for our school tour, I saw someone I knew and my husband saw someone he went to high school with nearly 20 years ago, who happened to both be teaching at the school. They greeted us and gave us their perspectives and it immediately felt like home. The children themselves were friendly and eager to say hello to my then-4-year-old and as soon as our tour ended, I knew this was the place for us. Now that we're nearing the end of our first year at OLF, I can confidently say our instincts were correct -- the teachers are caring and competent and the community is cohesive, but most importantly, there is a strong emphasis on education, fellowship, and safety. The new principal has done a great job making us feel reassured that our children are in the best hands possible. So happy to be a part of this OLF family.

We have NEVER had a teacher we did not appreciate. As for the posts regarding bullying. . .I wonder if they are reaching out? Is the school aware of what is going on? I have had bullying issues with my child being on both ends and the school has not only contacted me immediately but helped resolve the issues, whether is be a meeting with teacher/principal, a phone call, or a sit down with other parents. They do have high turn over for principals but it has never really caused us any issues. And they do stress attendance but I cannot imagine any school not. Regular attendance helps the teacher & student build a relationship. Attendance is important!!

The staff think the kids can't remember or won't repeat what's being done at school. My son has went to this school for 2 years & since day 1 he has experience different treatment than the "white kids" receive. He complained about being yelled at, asked "why you can't do it & the other kids can!" & being forced to complete his lunch after stating his full!!! Without a doubt, one of the best schools here in the La Palma/ Cypress area. Of course, I could…read moresound biased because our kids go here and my wife attended the same school years ago. *Cough Cough* I mean, a few years ago. :) After being here a few years now, I can tell you this school is really well run. There are a lot of components to this success. Let me explain. Jacki Teschke the principle is a hands on mentor here. She knows every kids name (Amazing!) and of course always recognize parents and makes the time to say Hi. She has always been there after school with the kids from McTeacher's night, MovieNight, CareerNight, Bingo....I can't remember them all but she was always there at Every. Single. Event. She makes the best Cotton Candy hands down! In addition, the success of this school follows from the secretary (who is always available), to the staff, to the Janitors (Martin and Rosa), the awesome PTA staff that raises the money to these great events and buses (Thank you) , to the crossing guards (Frank), and of course the teachers here. They are caring and nurturing. I haven't been exposed to some of the upper grades but I can tell you: Ms. Pruitt-Great TK teacher, organized and always at the school after hours Ms. Moore-Loves and nurtures kids and brings out their full potential Ms. Alkers-Creative and exposes the kids to multiple learning arenas Ms. Weiss-Full balance teacher with PE/Learning/Collaborate with other teachers. Ms. Robledo-Always finding ways to expose more ways to teach the kids We did originally wanted the kids to attend Landell since we live right in the middle. My daughter was struggling to read (1st grade and in an IEP) and wanted to boost her confidence and wow honestly within a month we saw big improvement.
