For 3 years now I have volunteer for United Way at this location. We do taxes here from January to…read moreApril and I love it. While volunteering I was able to get a tour of the facility to see what they'd offer to the students training there. I then was able to refer a client from my day job there who completed the training and returned to work able to maintain his lodging. They placed him with an employer that offer him competitive wages. If your interested in returning to work and need to brush up on a trade or even computer skills I recommend this place.

It's true this place helps people with disadvantages find work in the community. However, when I was there as a participant in 2017, there were only 3 or 4 job developers and too many participants per job developer. Because of this, it was sometimes a little difficult to get help from my job developer, as she was so busy helping other participants. One time she said she would help me with a cover letter for a job application but did not get to my cover letter before the job closed a few weeks later. Also, this place does not like for participants to take days off to take care of things like family emergencies. For example, my aunt passed away unexpectedly and I needed to go out of town for a few days for the memorial service. I was given a hard time for asking to take one and a half days off so I could get to my aunt's service. My job developer made a big deal about me needing to take time off, as if it were an unforgivable sin to have a life outside of work. It seemed a little ridiculous to me.

While as a paid, private tutor, my business is new, I am not new to tutoring and enhancing one's educational experience. Beyond knowing the subject matter, I also know how to work with kids of all ages and backgrounds, and I understand what how to experiment with different learning methods until we find the right one. Every tutoring session is a judgement-free zone where failure doesn't exist, only learning and improving! All students are welcomed regardless of language barriers or learning disabilities. Not only am I available after school hours, but I'm also available all day! So whether your student is home schooled or suspended for the day and needs someone to help keep them on track, I've got your back! I believe all students deserve an equal opportunity for education, and sometimes that can't be met in a classroom setting. At the same time, I don't believe there's such thing as a "bad student", only a student whose educational needs aren't being met. Online and in-person sessions are both available to meet your student's needs and your family's budget. "Emergency" tutoring sessions can always be arranged when the unexpected arises. Discounts for full day tutoring sessions are available and can be discussed depending on your needs. I'm always one phone call, text, or email away!

We had a 1 1/2 year old at the time and figured the parent tot class would be fun and get us out of the house. Ms. Melissa was amazing and I loved her interactions with kids and also the parenting advice when I needed it. Ive met other local mamas that have become friends, and my kiddos have also made some lasting friendships. This area is big but being a part of this school has made it feel a lot smaller; we are constantly seeing the same families at the community center and community sports. My oldest graduated from the co-op last year and is now almost done with kindergarten. The curriculum and play based learning really set him up to succeed in kindergarten. Now my youngest will have her final year at the school this Fall; which makes a total of 6 years for us at the co-op. It will be very bittersweet when the time comes for us to leave. Melissa, Megan, and Hilary are fabulous teachers and care so much for their students. I highly would recommend this school, and if you are on the fence they have open houses to meet the teachers and see what the co-op is all about!
