Directly up the street from our Airbnb was the Community Market that was the most quaint and perfect little neighborhood spot that had seemingly everything you needed...no need to venture into town. The shop is small and packed with anything and everything; fresh fruits, veggies, meats, eggs, cheeses, drinks, laundry and cleaning supplies, liquor, snacks, and fun little treats scattered throughout. The staff are friendly neighborhood folk who know lots of their clientele and just what they want. Prices are high but this is for convenience not the deal. During our stay in Big Bear we got many of our groceries and some sweet treats from the Community Market, and I'm sure we will be back when we return again someday. read more

Grew up in the area so well aquatinted with the history and what used to be. The remodel and money invested in the community market makes for a spacious well stocked store. The fresh meat and vegetables are top of the line. Not sure what all the negative reviews are from but this store is way better than what it was 25 years ago. This community market in Big Bear (outside of the main area) is the clear winner of all convenience stores. It's setup like a convenience store, but with excellent selection. And while the prices for some items may be a bit higher than the Vons in the main area of Big Bear, the convenience of its location serves a community need. I came here for some ice cream and was impressed to see a variety of steaks (the meat seemed reasonably priced), salmon, shrimp, and more. The ice cream itself had a bit of freezer burn, but overall; I was so impressed with the items offered here, it didn't bother me that I picked the wrong ice cream container. I went here to pick up some groceries and witnessed the owner of the store YELLING at one of his employees, heard it from all the way across the store. The owner was threatening him saying "you don't want to see my bad side". All that because his employee wasn't stocking the shelves correctly. Wildly inappropriate in any situation, but especially with an employer/ business owner. I don't care how "bad" an employee may be- grow up and handle conflict like an adult. If you're from the area or staying around this area I recommend coming here instead of vons or stater brothers to save you the trip. They have everything! Shit I didn't even think I needed. Well, it took the new owners nearly a year to revamp this little market. For a while it had no produce, which kept me away. I'm not always in this end of the valley, but today I thought I would roll the dice and see if they had completed their makeover. Yes! New flooring, new taller, fuller, cleaner racks, expanded meat and vegetable cases, expanded liquor department, plenty of wine and beer, even a new coffee station. Great job Community Market! I am hoping fellow community members will stop using this market. It has been under new management and ownership for about six months. The new owner refuses to post prices on anything. He recognizes that community members would rather walk to the store than drive to the grocery, and he is capitalizing on us. Anything you buy you will be shocked at the price when he finally rings it up at the register. There is nothing 'community' about the new owner. He is all about making money off of us. Please make double sure you get everything you need one at the regular, grocery, and do what we can to avoid providing business to the community market until he is willing to ask reasonable prices, and to post all his prices. *Overall 3.5 Stars* The community market is a good place for last minute items food items, supplies, and alcohol. If you are visiting or live on the East Side of Big Bear this is the place to go when you do not feel like driving across town to a real supermarket. There is also a hot food counter and they have an in house butcher set up where they package their own meat. That being said, expect to pay much higher prices and limited items for the convenience of not going across town. There is usually ample parking and there is a Mountain Transit trolly stop outside that picks up and drops off every 30 minutes. Ive npticed they never stray from the current inventory of items, do not expect different products from here. The new owners have expressed a desire to cut out their tiny produce selection which has both locals and employees up in arms. Also There is a stench that never goes away in here. I'm not sure where it originates but it is very noticeable. Overall it's central location makes it feesable for people grab things and go quickly. read more

Great little market. When at all possible, we prefer going here rather than Vons/Stater Bros. (which can get real busy and always have long lines). Community Market has a nice selection of your normal necessities and pantry items. Plus, their meats are great cuts at super reasonable prices. Also there's a ton of fresh produce. Hot deli has some good ready-to-go foods - but of course, the supply wanes throughout the day. When the Big Bear Vons and the Stater Bros each have hour-long waits for the check-out lines, Community Market is an absolute godsend. The space is small and minimalist with some great fresh, local staples woven into the mix. The produce is gorgeous. The meat / dairy selection is surprisingly high-quality and expansive. Even the pantry items have some interesting additions that kick this spot up above "mere convenient store" status. The wine selection is also surprising, and includes bottles from wineries that are featured on some of the tours around Big Bear. If you're staying on top of the mountain and find yourself in need of some basics to make a meal out of, Community Market is your saving grace. They're so kind here! Came into town for a long weekend, but completely spaced on bringing a phone charger. After 2 days I realized I was in trouble, I trekked out early before my cabin mates awoke to pick up a charger and I stopped at 2 smoke shops and 1 gas station before stumbling upon the Community Market. Before I spoke with anyone I was really impressed with their selection of hot food, convenience, groceries and even toiletries items. It was warm and bright as well, which is very inviting at 27*F outside! The store owner, or front desk clerk I'm unsure, was very kind to me and had a bunch of Apple chargers- jackpot! The price was also very reasonable at about $9.97 for the cord alone, where other stores in the area were charging $12.99 and up. I would like to report that the Community Market does not comply with the ADA (Handicap) Parking requirements in California. This business does not display properly marked handicapped spaces. There is no handicapped parking sign and/ or line markings on the pavement. The only display is a single blue curb. Customers regularly park there unknowing it is reserved for the handicapped, based on numerous conversations I have had with them as I enter or exit the store. My husband is handicapped and this is a reoccurring problem, of which I have spoken to the owner about. He was rude and dismissive. I have filed a complaint with the San Bernardino Code Enforcement. However, in the meanwhile please complain about this issue if you should choose to shop there. read more

Place is rated as having the best meat in Big Bear. So I went in for some steaks and was NOT impressed. I bought (4) fairly small Ribeye's that were well priced. The steaks did not appear to look very good but it was all they had. We prepared them and cooked them. They tasted great. Thus, the steak was much better than it looked. I would shop here again and suggest their meat to others! No other shop in Big Bear can beat their meat! read more
