I almost didn't write a review because I assumed a place with a 4.5-star rating didn't need another glowing recommendation. Then, while waiting for the check, I made the mistake of reading the one-star reviews. Now I *had* to leave one. Yes, the food isn't served at lightning speed. Ours wasn't either. And you know what? It was worth every minute. This is a small, family-run restaurant--not a corporate chain with an army of cooks hidden behind swinging kitchen doors. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, tasted homemade, and arrived hot and fresh. The staff was warm, welcoming, and working incredibly hard. As a bonus, they're genuinely dog-friendly. We were able to enjoy breakfast with our pup on the patio, and they even have a dog menu. That's not just "dogs allowed"--that's a business that goes the extra mile. Somewhere along the way we've confused "not instant" with "bad service." We expect fresh, made-to-order food from small businesses to appear with fast-food timing, then punish them when it doesn't. Patience has become a lost art. If you're in a hurry, there are plenty of drive-thrus. If you want an outstanding breakfast, friendly people, a place that welcomes your dog as warmly as it welcomes you, and food that's worth waiting for, Broadway Cafe is absolutely deserving of its reputation. In response to the owner's reply... Service isn't just serving food and tasting your food. It's a combination of your logistics and workflow of your organization. Perhaps unorganized in the kitchen or slow in production. This isn't merely just waiting but the fact that your own staff told us different wait times. We did wait. We waited according to your instructions and schedule. We were told many different wait times every time we followed up and asked. The time kept getting longer and longer when there were no other parties waiting but us. First we were told 30mins, then literally minutes later it changed. Then an additional 20mins added. Then, 30. Then we waited, and it changed again. They kept telling us it would be longer and longer. Why would the time go backwards? A small gilled cheese sandwich for an hour? One order. You can ask any business owner or any place outside of your small town that it is a ridiculous wait time for a customer to wait for that long for one small sandwich. Instead of arguing back with your customers, a decent thing to do would have been to apologize and just have accommodated the sandwich just for having us almost an hour of waiting without even getting in. A true business owner wouldn't have responded in how you did. Not only horrible service, but bad ownership practices so I see where it reflects poorly. read more

We were looking for a late lunch spot in big Bear city and this was about the only place we could find open that looked good. We stopped by on a whim and really enjoyed the quaint, small town vibe. We especially liked the champagne flight they offered, which is not something one would assume would be on the menu here, but it turned out to be one of our favorites of all time! They bring an entire bottle of champagne to the table with three choices of fruit juices so you can mix to your own taste. It seems most other places only offer premade and somewhat disappointing, so we really enjoyed this! The food was pretty standard fried items, but we enjoyed the zucchini the best and the tater tots were delicious, it's quite hard to mess that one up, lol!, the staff was very welcoming and helpful in making our selections. Our first time coming here for lunch. I had a hamburger and husband had an Avocado Bacon Cheeseburger. Portions are very generous and I had to clamp down on my burger to bite it. I found the burger to be a bit on the dry side though, even with French dressing and other condiments on the burger. I ordered a small order of fried zucchini to go with the burger, which was good. We had water to go with the lunch and it tasted a bit odd-had to ask for lemon to mask the taste. The cost was $30.55 before tax and tip. Service was good. We took a quick day trip to Big Bear Lake to catch a little snow before the big storm and asked some locals for food recommendations. First question they asked us: "Do you like burgers?" Yes. Immediate yes They sent us to Broadway Café, and it did not disappoint. It's just past the Village, right off the main road by the lake, with easy parking on site. There's a small outdoor patio (great for pets or groups) and a cozy indoor space (only like 3 or 4 tables inside). The staff was incredibly friendly, especially the girl at the register, who was such a gem. You can see the chef in the back cooking, which is always a good sign. We ordered two burgers and fries to share, and wow... the burgers were HUGE and super filling. The fries were freshly made and hit the spot with a little salt and ketchup. Best part? We spent under $30 for both of us. Affordable, delicious, and great quality. Fun Broadway-themed décor too, especially if you love theater vibes. Can't recommend Broadway Cafe enough. They have outdoor seating for dogs. My dog isn't the calmest, but we are trying to get him to adjust to new environments. We ended up leaving him in the car (shade+open trunk and windows) because of his anxiety and barking unfortunately but even with the barking, none of the staff said anything to us and were patient. The breakfast platters came out great! Good serving sizes! The outdoor patio has umbrellas and they clean the tables nicely. You can tell they take care of their restaurant- bathroom was very clean as well. They also make their own hot sauce which I thought was really cool. Next time we're in big bear we'll be coming back here 10000%. Don't you love it when the staff is friendly? The last two places we ate at had really bad customer service so please don't go there! The owners were awesome. The city had a blackout the day prior so we couldn't enjoy it when we first tried to go here but the very next day, the lovely couple welcomed me, my friend and my friends young dog in with open arms. Its a local place with a hawaiian flare. I got the loco moco and the gravy on it was pretty good. They even have a dog menu so you can order for those pups you love. Super sweet lady with a lot of hawaii stories. Will come back again when I'm back in town. read more

I ordered a Hui Hui chicken sammy & got flack for going for pick up not eating in then old lady seemed flustered and short with me for an unknown reason she probably thought was a tourist but Gus's what I'm local and will never go back here then she spilled a whole tray of drinks on some customer, I'm standing there waiting for my order So trying to be nice I help her pick up the cups off the ground, got no thank you or anything except a scowl the other customers just sat there staring at her like a bunch of jokers...I over hear them say don't answer the phones, I guess they were completely overwhelmed with the 6 customers they had...Then they call my order I pay $20 and a leave, turns out I get home and it's a hamburger!!! We visited with a party of 9 and were seated right away, which was a great start. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. When we arrived, we saw people ordering at the front register, so we assumed that was how ordering worked. One person from our group ordered and paid at the register, and the woman working there told us someone would come to our table to take the rest of our order. Unfortunately, no one came for about 30 minutes. Once our order was finally taken, service continued to be extremely slow. It seemed like other tables were receiving their food and drinks while we continued waiting. Our drinks didn't arrive until about 30 minutes after ordering, and one of them was forgotten entirely. The food came out gradually rather than together, and the quality was disappointing. I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich, and the croissant seemed like it had been microwaved because it became hard as a rock within minutes. Several meals were missing bacon that had been ordered, and one person's entire meal was never made because it wasn't written down in the first place. We ended up spending nearly two hours at the restaurant. To make matters worse, when I went to pay, I noticed we had been charged for multiple items that we never received. The only item I pointed out that should remain on the bill was a coffee that I did consume. Overall, the service was disorganized, the food was mediocre at best, several items were forgotten or prepared incorrectly, and we were charged for food we never received. they did make it write and took it iff the bill ! Most of our group left their food untouched. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. read more

5 stars across the board ! Best shakes we've ever had - we tried to rnraspberr and the key lime . The bloody mar was also outstanding . The angus burgers were so fresh and perfectly cooked and my sister and I split a traditional turkey and tuna salad sandwiches , bread toasted well and well said so we . - it's our new favorite place in Big Bear and I'm looking forward to exploring more of the menu. read more

Staff is super friendly. Came originally for the lattes... the house made syrups are the best, but they are seasonal! Comes in a huge cup. Breakfast burrito was sopo good esp with the green salsa it comes with. The pancakes are also really fluffy and tasty with the butter, didn't even need all the strawberry sauce, but good if you're a sweet tooth. Will be back read more

Felt like chili and tater tots. This seemed to be the only place in Big Bear that had both options. So away we went. It didn't dawn on us until we got there that it's called "Broadway" because the entire place is decked in with old Playbills! So cool. They had an original one from what looks like the original production of Oliver! as well as a ton of other original productions from NYC, and others from LA. Chili was great, but would prefer it to be hotter. Tots were great. Service is slow, but it's ok. There's also this pinball machine thing that spews out small bouncy balls for 25 cents a piece. Totally cute. It's COLD inside (maybe we weren't used to the cold, but it was cold). But they were super accommodating when I asked if we could turn off the ceiling fan. Had a bad experience here, regardless of all the good reviews. We ordered coffee and hot chocolate which both came out cold. French fries were also served cold. Chicken tenders were served with mayo even though we requested ranch. Burger was just okay nothing special. Server brought over one of our orders wrong. Zero competency. All the employees looked like deer in headlights. It seems like this establishment has been around for awhile, yet when I came up to the counter asking if seating outside was first come first served or if there was a waitlist, I received a blank expression. Finally after some time they asked for my name and number (of which they didn't use) and I proceeded to wait 40 minutes for a seat outside. I was okay waiting, but noticed the reason why it was taking so long was because 1. The staff were slow to get orders out 2. I saw multiple customers have to go inside to the front and ask for things like straws, napkins, utensils, etc. 3. At least two tables has issues with being overcharged for their meals I was getting pretty tired of waiting at this point, so when a table finally opened (knowing I was first on the waitlist as they had said), I sat down. Another customer then came up to me saying she was first in line, and when I clarified that I actually was, an employee looked at her and said "I didn't know she wanted to take that table". Umm, why wouldn't I want to take the first table if I'm the next on the waitlist? If you're writing down everyone's names and numbers on the same sheet, how does that happen? I felt bed for that misinformed customer but after 45 minutes of waiting I had enough. Food was fine. Nothing impressive. I'd skip getting an iced latte. I'd skip coming here if you don't feel like having to be on top if you're entire dining experience. read more

We've been to the Broadway Cafe before, and it was very good. This time it was just ok. Our server was great. We sat on the patio. We had our puppy with us and she was so kind to him. We ordered our food and she told us about the doggy menu. We ordered a burger patty for our dog and a Pup Cup. I ordered the BBBBQ burger with fries, my wife ordered the Loco Moco and chili tots. The drinks came out quickly, but the food took a while. My wife really liked her Loco Moco. Runny egg, well seasoned patty and lots of gravy. The tots were half covered in a dry chili with beans, and their oil was old or dirty. The tots had the lingering taste of bad oil. My burger was large, but very dry. The patty was over cooked and dry. The bun was toasted and dry. There was an onion ring in it that didn't help. I wound up ripping off the edges of the buns and eating the center of my burger. They were having an off day in the kitchen. We'll be back to have a burger another time. read more

We were recommended here by a family friend. In all our years coming up to Big Bear we had never tried it, so we decided to give it a shot & I am so glad we did!! The food was good & hearty (we ordered eggs & pancakes & French toast with bacon & sausage), but the family running the place was what truly made our experience so special. The Broadway Cafe is one of the best lunch stops in the Big Bear area. This place really shines on cool sunny days with patio seating. In inclement weather, inside seating is available, but is limited. Today I had the Blue Cheese Burger, Fries and Fried Pickles, and all were at the top of the game. The burger was nicely topped with blue cheese, just the right amount to hit the tang button but not so much to make a mess. The fries were better than perfect. I suspect a double fry is the trick. Anyway, the fries are crispy and crunchy on the ourside and tender on the inside. These were possibly the best fries I've ever had and I have had fries at hundreds of places, from dives to fancy restaurants. The fried pickles were terriffic...nice dill chips that were battered and deep fried. Yum is about all there is to be said. I ate mine plain to enjoy the crispy outside and tangy inside. Our waitress was fantastic, bringing a lot of friendly banter to the cafe, and she seemed to know many customers by name. Even though I was not a regular, I was treated as if I'd been coming in for years. Prices are very fair, and quanties are spot on. read more

The interior decorations visualize the restaurant name with Broadway Playbills at each table; they made some great conversation starters.  Indoor & amd outdoor dining is available. There are just three tables inside, but nearly about a dozen more on the patio. The Bloody Mary was great, very fresh, and horseradish forward. It was a robust flavor with a great heat that lingers just the right length. Why is it so good? Well, they'll tell you it's because this personal recipe was made with love. I always wonder when someone claims award winning. But their award winning chili truly was great. Pour that over some fries-yum! Although, I would be very happy simply having a bowl of it with some cheese and onions. The Butler's Peak Chicken sandwich was what it claims to be: spicy.  Heat tolerance is subjective, and I love heat; do know what your going into. It's not spicy for spice sake; it is an overall balanced heat with flavor. I appreciate the pickles that act as a counterbalance to the heat.  I don't want the heat to overshadow the fry on the chicken; it was a fantastic crunch without a lingering grease. Well done! This small, homey cafe is what you'd expect when you step into a small town eatery. The menu spans classic American to Midwest to Hawaiian, essentially has something for everyone. The staff were welcoming and very accommodating. Our table ordered cheeseburgers and a loco moco. While I wasn't able to try the loco moco, I do agree their burgers is probably one of the best burgers I've had. It wasn't the best because it was overly complicated. It was the best because it kept the classic, backyard structure. Each bite was a flood of football tailgates, 4th of July parties and the Star Spangled Banner. The bun was nicely toasted, the patty was thick and juicy while the sauce was saucing. The sides were also great. I suggest getting the fried zucchinis. They're addictive, a balance of crunch and healthy freshness. The onion rings were the perfect level of breading and onion, not the usual compromise between a sliver of onion and a thick batter. You can tell they have pride in their food and if you're ever hitting the slopes, grab some food to-go rather than buying at the resort. read more

Just finished lunch here. First time at this restaurant. My wife and I had the Southwestern Burger and the Bacon Avocado burger. We both had combos, one with Fries and one with Tater Tots. Tater Tots were better than the Fries. Both burgers were cooked to medium as requested and were good but not 5 star good. Portion sizes were a little to the larger size but not overly so. Service was friendly and attentive. We sat on the patio and enjoyed the pleasant summer day. They also serve other sandwiches besides burgers. We haven't had the opportunity to try these. read more
