One of my favorite places in all of Big Bear and probably my favorite sandwich place ever. I always get the roast beef and potato soup, I forget how great it is until I bite into it and realize yeah, it's even better than I remember (every. single. time.) It's all so good!! My husband always gets the pretzel too. The inside is spacious and there's plenty of room to sit and enjoy your meal. And the service is always good.

Really liked the sausages and sandwiches here. But our favorite thing was the mustard. Really unique flavor in this mustard. Really wish I would've taken some to go. Service was great! Plenty of seating inside and outside. They also have a great selection of beers. Gotta try it out!

Found Old German Deli as a unique lunch option at Big Bear. They have dedicated parking with both indoor and outdoor seating options with a bathroom. We ordered the Schinkenwurst cold cut sandwich with a side of potato soup and a Sausage Platter (two sausages: Polish Kielbasa and Currywurst) with a side of potato salad. The potato salad was excellent - a bit different from traditional salad with mustard and small chunks of sausage. Both sausages were tender and the Polish Kielbasa was snappy. My favorite was the mustard dip - it was both sweet and tangy, I wish we could purchase it! Workers were friendly and food came out quickly. Would recommend for a quick bite near Big Bear Lake!

The OGD pastrami was very tasty. I really enjoyed the avocado and onion on the sandwich. I have the Russian dressing on the side, it also came with the grainy mustard. The potato salad was very tasty, it came with the rainy mustard and little bites of sausage inside. Hubby had the two sausages and really enjoyed it. The only odd thing was if they don't have ice. So we had room temperature water.

We arrived right after they opened and were the first customers. The store was decorated with old German pictures and decor. There were European type candies and snacks available to buy. It was a homely restaurant. The service to get our food was a bit slow. Instead of ordering individual sandwiches, we ordered the Sausage Platter to share. We chose the Polish Kielbasa and a Knackwurst sausage. It came with a small pretzel bun, warm sauerkraut, a pickle spear, and potato salad. Their potato salad was not mayonnaise based and made with grain mustard and some sausage. It reminded me of cold, chunky mashed potato with sausage. Hubby preferred the kielbasa because of its deep beefy flavor. The Knackwurst (pork & beef) was lighter in flavor. The warm sauerkraut had good flavor and went well with the sausage and pretzel bun. We ordered a small pretzel to try and it was perfect after eating all of the pretzel bun. The apple streudel was served cold. Hubby took it back to our hotel room and warmed it up. It was yummy. Too bad we didn't have any ice cream. Hubby also wished he could buy the sausages in bulk to take home.

One of our must stop lunch places when visiting Big Bear. We stopped by for a to-go lunch order on a late afternoon in late December. There was no wait in line. We ordered: Schinkenwurst, Bavarian loaf, Roast Beef, and the German chocolate cake. The mustard on the side is delicious. They also sell snacks. Parking and finding seating can sometimes be a challenge during peak lunch hours, however the food is worth the visit!

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! My friend introduced this deli to me while we were camping in Big Bear! And I was sooooo amazed! I got the pepper loaf sandwich with a side of potato salad and I was so happy! The bread was toasted perfectly and the pepper loaf had such good flavor! The sandwich meat to veggie to bread ratio was perfect! Loved the mustard seeds and sausage that was in the potato salad! I love sauerkraut, and tried theirs, but thought it could be more sour :) I went back after my camping trip to try the Bavarian loaf sandwich and I liked this one better! The seasonings in the cold cut were so good! I got some to go, along with some pepper loaf and roast beef. Also grabbed some sausages to take home and grill! I tried their dried, cured sausages and they are AMAZING! Will definitely be back every time I visit Big Bear:)

The German deli in Big Bear! It was so good. Their homemade mustard tasted so good that we had to buy a jar to bring it home. I felt like I was in Germany when I entered the building. Their waiter was very friendly and even signed in ASL to our family in attempt to have a conversation with us. Nice place to be in when you're looking for a lunch at Big Bear.

UGH THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD!!!!! If I had to pick one place to eat in Big bear , this would be it. Their sauerkraut is unlike any other, it's DELICOUS. My boyfriend and I came in today and the girl was so nice and friendly , she was so knowledgeable on sauerkraut. The food is ridiculously good. I wanted to try something we couldn't get at home. Saw this place as we drove in but past it by. I then looked it up and decided we needed to stop. I'm glad we did. There was no wait. Got right in and ordered our lunch after picking the brain of the employee. He suggested the sandwich but I was also curious about the pepper loaf. So he included a sample for us. And I'm so glad he did. Soup was warm and comforting. Potato salad was delicious. Sandwich was super tasty! Even my not so adventurous boyfriend loved everything! They also had desserts but this girl has lost 50 pounds recently so I skipped it! But you should get it and report back. They also had jars of mustard for sale. Might grab one on the way home.

Vegetarians rejoice! A whole dedicated menu awaits. Potato soup potato soup potato SOUP. My sandwich (hummus) was good and a massive portion especially for the price, but that potato soup will live in memory as one of the best I've ever had. Husband had the hot pastrami and loved it so much he wanted to go back the next day. (But sadly for him he wasn't hungry enough and we had to drive back to LA. ) We also got a German Chocolate cheesecake and it was fantastic. 10 outta 10 would definitely come back next time we're up there. read more

I am a sucker for a German deli and was so happy to have found that Big Bear has one! The range of products available was not as extensive as some of the German deli shops I've enjoyed visiting, but there was still plenty to try and enjoy. Our family arrived for an early lunch during the week and it was pleasantly quiet. The service was incredibly friendly and efficient too. I ordered the Knackwurst sausage plate ($15). Everything was delicious, the yellow mustard and saurkraut being the "cherry on top". Wonderful German deli with good food, friendly service, comfortable and clean seating, and a nice dog friendly patio too. Highly recommend stopping by! read more

We love this place and always try to stop by for lunch when we are in town! This trip we got the Turkey pesto and the Reuben sandwich. Both were very good, I think the turkey was a little better. The Reuben was good but a little too much dressing (I guess I should have wiped it off). The potato soup is always a must! Also got a stein of beer, the wheat ale they offered, and it was great! The line can get a little long but the people are always super friendly and try their best to get the food out quickly! read more

One of my favorite parts of our yearly big Bear Bear trip is going to old German deli. As a pescatarian, they still have an array of choices for me my favorite being the veggie bratwurst that comes with a side of coleslaw and small soup. It's delicious and hearty. I'm also a big fan of the pretzel and mustard. The bread is so soft it tears with ease. There's some parking outside, but I'd say I'd rather limited. Staff is very kind, you may wait a while as their service is a little slow, but it's well worth it. read more

My husband and I appreciate German food and were excited to try this place out. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and is combined with a deli at the front. All guests order at the front and seat themselves, and the staff call your name when ready. We ordered the Currywurst, the Half Sandwich, Half Soup combo, and the Apple Strudel. Our order took quite a bit of time and at one point we thought we were either skipped or someone claimed our order, but it turns out the Currywurst was the hold-up. However, once we got our order, we were reminded of our time in Germany. The Currywurst came with sauerkraut, pickles, mustard, egg, and potato salad. It tasted delicious! The currywurst was melt-in-your mouth and tasted well with the sauerkraut. I wasn't a big fan of the potato salad as it had a kick, but my husband loved it. For the Half Sandwich, Half Soup combo, I got the Smoked Turkey (the soup was potato soup and this was the only option offered at the time). The combo came with a side of pickle and dijon mustard. The soup was delicious; full of veggies and very hot. The Smoked Turkey was also delicious; the marble rye was really good and the turkey paired well with all the veggies. And my favorite part... the Apple Strudel; the top was a semi-thick layer of dough atop apples and spices, with a soft flaky undercrust. This has to be one of the top 3 apple strudels I've ever had. Highly recommended! Everything was packed in a brown paper box, and they gave out plastic utensils even for the customers dining in. Unfortunately, they didn't have trashcans so everyone was bringing their trash to the cashier to dispose (I wonder why). Service was definitely slower than average, as our friends also waited a while for their desserts (they ordered the German Chocolate Cake and Soft Pretzel, and it took at least 10 minutes). Nonetheless, if you aren't on a tight schedule, definitely check out Old German Deli! Next time we are in Big Bear, we are definitely coming back! read more

My boss recommended this place as a must try! I was so happy we did! I got the half Black Forest ham sandwich with potato soup! And when I was done I wish I got the full sandwich. The sauerkraut was good and so was their side cucumber salad. They have inside and outside seating. The mustard everyone talks about is REALLY good! I can't wait till the next time! read more

Old German Deli was delicious, everyone in our party enjoyed their food. I got the Polish kielbasa with sauerkraut, pea soup (vegetable base with a kick) with a cold bottle of Bitburger pils. We shared a large pretzel with mustard, it was yummy! This place was super cute with indoor and outdoor seating and customer service was great! Gave this place 4 stars bc the Bathroom was pretty gross and unkept, with cardboard covering most of the bathroom floor. Check their hours. In the spring they were closed on Tuesday. read more

Good food and Live music on a Saturday. I got the sausage platter. It came with my choice of 2 sausages, side, pretzel bun, spear of pickle and kraut. I picked Cheddar and Polish sausage and it was good. My entire set was very delicious. Perfectly cooked and not too dry. This place might me my go-to place in Big Bear now. read more

We got here right as it opened and got our order in first. Thank goodness...because by the time we got our order to go this place was hopping! We got the sausage plate and the roast beef cold cut sandwich. On the sausage plate i got the cheddar bratwurst and the Polish kielbasa. Both were very delicious. The sausage plate also came with a pickle spear, mustard, potato salad, and sauerkraut. I loved everything. I would definitely get it again. The roast beef sandwich was very flavorful and also came with a pickle spear and choice of side. We foot the potatoe salad as the side. It also came with a quarter of a hard boiled egg. We both liked the flavors and food. The potato salad is different as it has chucks of sausage in it, but i thoroughly enjoyed it! Definitely give it a try! read more

From the moment we pulled into the parking lot, we knew we were in for something special. There's plenty of parking, and the rustic exterior is impossible to miss. The building has incredible character and almost feels like you're about to board a pirate ship. Walking inside immediately sets the tone. The restaurant has a dark, warm, cozy atmosphere with a glowing bar, beautiful wood finishes, and unique hallways that make the entire place feel full of history and personality. You can hear families laughing, glasses clinking, and everyone genuinely enjoying themselves. Since the upstairs dining room is closed during the summer, we sat on the back patio, which was absolutely beautiful. The waterfall feature, the pine trees, and the warm evening sun created the perfect mountain dining experience. The service was exceptional from beginning to end. We were greeted immediately, seated quickly, and our server, Carey, introduced herself right away. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, answered every question, and made outstanding recommendations. Another server also assisted us throughout the meal, and together they made us feel truly welcome. Carey recommended the Bison Short Ribs, and they were phenomenal, tender enough to fall off the bone, covered in a rich, flavorful sauce, and served with perfectly buttery garlic mashed potatoes. The clam chowder was one of the best I've ever had: rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. My son ordered the King Crab Combo, cracked every leg open, dipped it in melted butter, and gave it an enthusiastic A+. My 12-year-old loved the mac and cheese and perfectly cooked sweet potato fries. I was surprised to find a German restaurant in Big Bear, and a legit one! We came after a long hike and were absolutely famished. I shared a Reuben sandwich with potato soup and a currywurst sandwich with garden salad. The Reuben sandwich was thick with a wonderfully-crusted and toasted rye bread: the meat itself was flavorful, although a tad dry. The currywurst was the highlight, though: a beautiful, thin snap on the outside casing and a juicy inside: the curry flavor was mild, but just enough to add some flavor to it. I'd definitely recommend Old German Deli: the sausages are a must-get and the quality is spot-on. I enjoyed it! read more

Wow! How do you say "delicious" in German? "Lecker"! My husband ordered the German salami, and I opted for the Black Forest. Each bite was a delightful flavor discovery! The prices were definitely worth it, even considering the wait time. As for the ice cream, I'm not sure about it. However, I'll definitely return. Oh, and there was this enormous, freshly baked pretzel! was delectable! The only two things I would suggest improvements for are the mayonnaise they add. It's not excessive, but I personally don't enjoy mayonnaise. Additionally, I believe the lettuce should be made up of leafy greens. Can't wait to come back: read more

The Old German Deli was the first place we stopped when we got into Big Bear, and it truly set the tone for the entire trip. From the moment we walked in, everything felt authentic and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing and full of rich, traditional flavor from the very first bite. Everything tasted fresh and clearly made with care. The sausages were perfectly cooked, the sides were hearty and satisfying, and the portions were generous. The warm atmosphere and friendly service made the experience even better. Where do I begin. The food was authentic and tasted just like the Brats I had in Germany. Everything was fresh and made to order. The owners were amazing. The beer was awesome. The owner even took the time out of his day to come and talk to us. This is definitely the place to stop by when in a Big Bear. I will definitely be stopping by again. The Old German Deli in Big Bear was great. The food tasted super fresh, the sandwiches were big, and the pretzel with the spicy mustard was perfect. The people working there were really friendly, and the place has a cozy, old-school feel. They have a little shop inside with German snacks too. It does get a little busy and seating is small, but it's definitely a solid lunch stop. I'd go back for sure. read more

Excellent!!!! The variety of deli meats and sausages were amazing, the sauerkraut is hands down the best I've had in a long time, if the sauerkraut is this amazing then I can't wait for the red cabbage. Reminds me of the homeland! ALMOST as good as mama's, God rest her soul. When I smell the cheddar brats and kielbasa, I can almost see and hear mama in the kitchen. Danke for the memories!
