I ordered pick up through doordash since it was within walking distance and it told me at 2:55pm that my food was ready. I get there and they told me "there are 8 tickets ahead of you. I will be 15 minutes." WHAT?! I don't get my order until 3:30pm... which is later than 15 minutes not to mention 2:55. I am going to mostly blame whoever is in charge of running this place... there were only two people making food on a holiday weekend. I got the potato soup... jk they didn't put the lid on securely so all of the liquid was gone when we arrived back at the hotel. I ordered a side of horseradish that wasn't in there. My sandwich (hummus) was good and a massive portion especially for the price, but that potato soup will live in memory as one of the best I've ever had. Husband had the hot pastrami and loved it so much he wanted to go back the next day. Always a must when we go to big bear. The food is soo good. They don't have too many vegetarian options. More just a soup and maybe a vegetable sandwich. But the sausages are worth it ! The range of products available was not as extensive as some of the German deli shops I've enjoyed visiting, but there was still plenty to try and enjoy. Our family arrived for an early lunch during the week and it was pleasantly quiet. The service was incredibly friendly and efficient too. I ordered the Knackwurst sausage plate ($15). Everything was delicious, the yellow mustard and saurkraut being the "cherry on top". Absolutely amazing! The food was so delicious that I'm anticipating coming back again. The sausage platter had the perfect amount of food and the sausages were tender and juicy. Amber, who was running the counter was so kind and patient. She waited while we took a look at the menu and was more than happy to answer any of our questions. 10/10 service, 10/10 food! We ordered the Schinkenwurst cold cut sandwich with a side of potato soup and a Sausage Platter (two sausages: Polish Kielbasa and Currywurst) with a side of potato salad. The potato salad was excellent - a bit different from traditional salad with mustard and small chunks of sausage. Both sausages were tender and the Polish Kielbasa was snappy. My favorite was the mustard dip - it was both sweet and tangy, I wish we could purchase it! Workers were friendly and food came out quickly. We arrived right after they opened and were the first customers. The store was decorated with old German pictures and decor. There were European type candies and snacks available to buy. It was a homely restaurant. The service to get our food was a bit slow. Instead of ordering individual sandwiches, we ordered the Sausage Platter to share. We chose the Polish Kielbasa and a Knackwurst sausage. It came with a small pretzel bun, warm sauerkraut, a pickle spear, and potato salad. Their potato salad was not mayonnaise based and made with grain mustard and some sausage. It reminded me of cold, chunky mashed potato with sausage. Hubby preferred the kielbasa because of its deep beefy flavor. The Knackwurst (pork & beef) was lighter in flavor. The warm sauerkraut had good flavor and went well with the sausage and pretzel bun. We ordered a small pretzel to try and it was perfect after eating all of the pretzel bun. The apple streudel was served cold. Hubby took it back to our hotel room and warmed it up. It was yummy. To start the lady taking our order was rude, offered no help, and was not warming at all... very easy thing to do. We got a few different items. The turkey chicken pesto was good i will say that, but all their sides (potato soup, cucumber salad) were horrific (excessively salty and watery along with no flavor). Their pickle spears were small. Their portion size for the sandwiches was i'd estimate was around half a regular sandwich. Their pretzel which they were supposed to "specialize" in was dry, no flavor and an utter disappointment. The place was also not very clean. Don't expect ice or water or anything a normal place would have. 90+ for a meal that's supposed to feed 4 that could at most feed 2. This should have been 50 max! Maybe it was a bad day, let's hope so due to the good reviews. Forgot to add, took a very, very long time. read more

One of my favorite parts of our yearly big Bear Bear trip is going to old German deli. As a pescatarian, they still have an array of choices for me my favorite being the veggie bratwurst that comes with a side of coleslaw and small soup. It's delicious and hearty. I'm also a big fan of the pretzel and mustard. The bread is so soft it tears with ease. There's some parking outside, but I'd say I'd rather limited. I got the pepper loaf sandwich with a side of potato salad and I was so happy! The bread was toasted perfectly and the pepper loaf had such good flavor! My husband and I appreciate German food and were excited to try this place out. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and is combined with a deli at the front. All guests order at the front and seat themselves, and the staff call your name when ready. We ordered the Currywurst, the Half Sandwich, Half Soup combo, and the Apple Strudel. Our order took quite a bit of time and at one point we thought we were either skipped or someone claimed our order, but it turns out the Currywurst was the hold-up. However, once we got our order, we were reminded of our time in Germany. The Currywurst came with sauerkraut, pickles, mustard, egg, and potato salad. It tasted delicious! The currywurst was melt-in-your mouth and tasted well with the sauerkraut. I wasn't a big fan of the potato salad as it had a kick, but my husband loved it. For the Half Sandwich, Half Soup combo, I got the Smoked Turkey (the soup was potato soup and this was the only option offered at the time). The combo came with a side of pickle and dijon mustard. The soup was delicious; full of veggies and very hot. The Smoked Turkey was also delicious; the marble rye was really good and the turkey paired well with all the veggies. And my favorite part... the Apple Strudel; the top was a semi-thick layer of dough atop apples and spices, with a soft flaky undercrust. This has to be one of the top 3 apple strudels I've ever had. Highly recommended! Everything was packed in a brown paper box, and they gave out plastic utensils even for the customers dining in. Unfortunately, they didn't have trashcans so everyone was bringing their trash to the cashier to dispose (I wonder why). Service was definitely slower than average, as our friends also waited a while for their desserts (they ordered the German Chocolate Cake and Soft Pretzel, and it took at least 10 minutes).
