I had always thought of Zen as something…read morefound in books, or from the past, or something a few other unusual people did in far-away places. Enlightenment seemed like an esoteric, out-of-reach goal, and not one I was necessarily interested in pursuing -- not understanding, it had always struck me as an ironically self-focused pursuit. A Zen state of mind, with balance and equanimity -- that seemed interesting. But through the people at the Torrance Zen Center I found that the Zen path is not about the mind, but very much of the heart, and all the compassion the heart is capable of. The practitioners follow the Greater Path, with the intention of helping anyone and everyone through Zen to manifest a better version of themselves. And Enlightenment? It's about helping other people. Becoming in sync with the Greatest Good, however the name given by one's language culture. While the foundational practitioners natively speak Mandarin or Cantonese, they all make a dedicated and successful effort to speak English in teaching, sharing, and casual interactions, for which I am deeply and profoundly grateful. They have graciously and continuously extended a warm, including welcome. I have occasionally felt "odd man out," but: my doing. Their generosity of heart always surges back and I relax a bit more. Shortly after beginning meditation practice, I noticed, to my surprise, that many people - some I knew and some I didn't - suddenly seemed more comfortable around me, eager to talk and share whatever was on their minds. Positive feelings and experiences began to dominate my life, all while retaining and improving family relations, growing friendships, and more easily establishing new connections with people. This has been all new to me having to take classes for being a victim of DV , and she really made me feel heard and welcomed . The most important part of this is that she's made sure everything I've needed from this , I've got ! Thanks to her help . She even offered to help me after hours if needed , to fix my zoom so I could participate in a class I need. It goes to show that there are good people in this world and people who care ! After just 5 days they transferred it to a Rescue. The process was so secretive that Animal Control would not even tell me the name of the rescue service. After some serious digging I found out the cat had been transferred to Rover Rescue. They're almost 900 miles away even though we have several rescues within 50 miles. I immediately called Rover Rescue and found out they did have the cat and that it will be going to an adoption event this weekend. They REFUSED to tell me where the event was being held. I wasn't trying to get preferential treatment. I just wanted to have an equal opportunity to re-adopt this cat that has lived with me for the last year and a half and they refused to tell me where it was. Clearly they are not interested in getting animals back with loving families. I really hope it ends up with a good family but it was a stray I took off the streets. It had settled into our family very well. Now they are going to make the cat go through that again. It's also very concerning to me about how secretive the process is, even the name of the organization. Don't know anything about them except today's very inadequate interaction but that level of secrecy is not a good sign.

I can't tell you how much I hoped the rescue wouldn't pick her up and she'd be all mine. But Rover Rescue did come to her rescue. I called them minutes after finding out she had left the shelter. I had to leave a message and I figured I'd get the ball rolling and fill out the application. Kathy returned my call promptly we spoke about the dog. And several days later I picked up my girl from the Vet. Kathy was very helpful and thoughtful with her advice. Foxy came with a leash and a collar and we were given a bag of food to get us started. I love this organization, they do amazing work rescuing IMO the most adorable pooches. I want another one but I don't think Ms. Foxy is ready for a buddy quite yet. IMO the rescue fee is comparable and totally fair. You get a itemized list of all the fees they pay while the dog in their care. You don't have an obligation to pay those fees but it really did show me how much money it does take to save these animals.

Update time 2025. Rabbit Rescue Inc is permanently closed…read more Their bunnos went to foster homes, or with the volunteers they had to the new Sunshine Rabbit Center in Long Beach. Since my last review, Luke Skyhopper crossed the rainbow bridge (it felt like I lost a part of my heart losing that kiddo, but 13?ish years was a good life bubs). I think he was one of the last Petco featured buns RRI had, and my goodness am I glad I found him. After his passing my home felt quiet, and the same week I of course went to "just look" and ended up taking home two new bunnos now named Mulder and Scully. Their names were originally Tobias and Locke? *She was part of a litter in the rescue so if you have a bunno from here that's approximately 4/5 I may have their sibling! They were dumped or so I was told, by a family that loved them dearly (Scully was carried around by a little girl). Mulder (the lop) was from a breeder and bonded to Scully in the previous owner's home. They were supposed to have their belongings dropped off at the rescue, they did not. Thankfully I have a fully set free-roam bunno home so they settled in easily. Scully was petrified of dogs or even hearing them. Mulder was urine scalded. It's been a few years and they're thriving now. I've uploaded photos in case they were yours and you'd love to see an update on them. They're gonna live their best lives with me forever. I promise. Everything said above. I boarded the kids here and took a shot. They were okay and didn't have any issues besides it being insanely hot. *This was also summer of last year though. When the fires broke out in January, I immediately thought of air quality knowing their location and what they were working with. I confirmed and sent two air purifiers because I understand not just human health, but also bunny health and my goodness they are sensitive little loves. When I called to be sure they got there/were received, I was made to feel like the two HEPA air purifiers were not good enough because they were "so tiny." When I run a single one in my home just fine. =/ I don't have the world, but I'll give what I can, especially to those who I care about the best I can first. This was also in the midst of me volunteering daily to collect for victims and first responders. But I bit my tongue. This rescue has had its issues of bunnies being abandoned out front and being eaten by the roofing company's dogs. It wasn't fair to the buns and they deserved a chance but my goodness that could have been prevented. I notice the difference between their social media stirring right now so here's some more perspective. I have immense gratitude for those who have lovingly cared for the buns I've adopted, and those who came into this rescue. The 3* is for you.

This is simply such an AAAAAMAZING RABBIT RESCUE I learned so much from them about rabbit care and how special these precious little animals are! I've learned that rabbits are like cats, each with its own individual characteristics. Having a pet is a huge responsibilities from cradle to grave! Sadly there are irresponsible owners who don't follow through with their commitments and abandon these precious babies,that is why it's so precious to have these loving, giving, selfless organization, around to help pick up the pieces where humans fall short! The rescue has these two sweet kind and loving ladies who took the time out of their busy schedule to show me around and educate me about rabbit care. Unbeknownst to me I was there 2 hours before the opening bc the door was opened and they just walked me around spending time with me explaining to me even letting me feed them and hold them! WOW! Who does that any more! Love these rabbits and love these two sweet and lovely ladies who are truly the unsung heroes who gave their all to take care of these voiceless helpless little creatures! And they keep the place so clean and spotless! They do it with their heart and love and you can feel that. They make me want to donate, and donate more if I can! I was afraid going in after reading some reviews about the people there might be rude. Never been…read moreto a shelter except donating beds and stuff. I saw a 15yr old being surrendered online and went next day. Couldn't not do anything after seeing a senior seeem so confused and scared. The shelter didn't seem too dirty. Looks like they did the best they can to maintain cleanliness. When I went in and the person helping me was nice and friendly. Not like they're excited which I don't expect them to or anything but they were polite and nice, and spoke softly. She gave me instructions and went to see the senior dog. A volunteer who was really nice as well and provided info and didn't rush me while being in the playpen meeting the senior. Helped me with questions I had and provided me extra info. The volunteer I let has a lot of love for the animals. It's not Disneyland or anything so I don't expect the workers to be overly excited or being extra happy. I don't think I could be happy working there but I do appreciate the people working there. The whole process probably took me an hour and that includes meeting the dog in the playpen.

They gave me a 6 week old kitten they claimed was healthy, even with an exit exam by a veterinarian, and when I got her home, she was visibly sick and had to be rushed to the emergency hospital. Now I'm typing this review after spending $5000 to save her life. I am beyond upset as I got this cat to help me with my mental health and now I am completely stressed out and disgusted with this shelter. UPDATE: The cat died. Thanks for lying to my face that the cat was healthy and ready to go home and be around other cats. What she had is contagious and now I'm worried about the wellbeing of my two other cats. Carson animal shelter are crooks who pray on and manipulate people.
