I'm close to this golf course and I honestly enjoy it in all seasons (The city grooms cross country trails in the winter.). Sure the greens and fairways can be a little rough but for the most part, they play really well. It's not as expensive as other courses so that is going to increase you getting paired up with other golfers. That Peter dude complaining about "paying extra" just didn't happen. Unless you pay for 4, you're gonna get paired up. My wife worked there for a couple of summers. I'm personally a fan of the clubhouse though. They offer drink specials and like others have said, it's a great spot to sit in the shade on the deck and watch other people shooting on to the green. We both have cheered when people have made nice shots. The food, nothing really to write home about but that is more about staffing issues. I've always enjoyed Como golf course. It's an interesting course with a good deal of variety. First there are some wide and forgiving holes for golfers like me who play Army golf. (That's when you hit the ball left, left, left, right, left.) Then there are some elevation changes (hills) to test your skill getting the ball up off the grass. And the back nine has some narrow holes with tricky water hazards and narrow approaches that will test the most experienced golfer. Hole 18 ends on a wavy green if you survive the hidden approach and the perfectly placed and largely hidden creek water hazard. Holes 18 and 15 are my favs because in Classic golf form, these are picturesque holes that can be mastered only when you know what's coming (played at least once previously) and you bring your A game. They have a large clubhouse. Lots of standard fare and presently a solid tap selection not surprisingly featuring Saint Paul's own Summit beer and a few others too. Terrible golf course, we paid for a 2 person tee time and they made us play with another group, we told them to play ahead of us so we could separate and they course worker came over and told us to pick up our balls and catch up with the strangers they stuck us with, never coming here again absolutely terrible. read more

We were here for a simple ski race and wanted to warm up and eat bagels(that we brought) after our race. We were kicked out of the chalet and left in the cold to eat our bagels. The workers were rude and disrespectful to kids. We do not recommend this place for any sort of activity. The chalet has an odor of cigarettes and it has the feel of an old persons home with the decor and had trash everywhere. We do not recommend. read more

Bring a helmet. Or some hockey gear. They really should have made this a nine hole course, but instead they decided to cram eighteen holes on to very limited acreage; which means you'll be hearing 'FORE' on every other hole. The one thing Como has going for it is price (especially if you use Ezlinks or Golfnow). Unfortunately, this also draws in a lot of people that don't play much, which increases your chances of getting plugged by an errant shot. This would be a good course for the beginning golfer since it's fairly short tee to green, but be forewarned about aforementioned potential for bodily harm and slow pace of play. read more

I have to say that these reviews are funny to say the least. Apparently the signs that point you directly to the next tee box, most of which are visible from the preceding greens, is the same thing as aimless wandering? The only spot where you even have to walk for more than 20 feet to the net tee box is between the third and fourth holes, and even then, there's 5 arrows poiting you to the tee box along the cart path. If you can read, aimless wandering is simply not something you do here. As for an unusual layout being a bad thing, that's also funny. If you want perfectly straight holes with huge wide fairways and no landscape, go to a driving range. The 11th hole teebox overlooking the valley and the 3rd hole is still one of my favorite spots on any golf course in the metro. Regarding the comment about other players' balls landing in your fairway from other holes, show me one course in the metro where that never happens. Also, it would seem that if this is the case and the holes are close together, then it shouldn't really make sense that you aimlessly wander from hole to hole, now would it? Ball thiefs? I've been playing metro courses for about 20 years, and I've never had a ball stolen from here or anywhere else. course neglect? come on... Como has some of the best maintained fairways and greens in the metro. Though, I'd say Keller is usually better kept. I'm about a 14 handicap, and Como is without a doubt one of the easiest courses you'll find within 25 miles of where it is. Last Itime I played there I shot a 77. Complaining about difficulty is hillarious on a course that has 4 par 4s (2, 4, 5, 11) reachable from the tee, and 4 more (1, 3, 12, 14) where it's possible to hit it within about 15 feet off the tee, is absolutely ridiculous. The only thing I loathe about Como is the return policy. Anyone who's ever had to deal with it knows what I mean. Anyway, please do not listen to this one person (who I can only assume is a young child due to complaining about como being difficult) who has only seen half of the course, one time; or this other person who has only seen the course once, probably during a time where the airation made it look like there was goose poop everywhere. Listen to someone who's actually played every course in the metro at least 20 times. Como is fun, easy, cheap, and well kept. read more

Key words for this review: Short, cheap Really that's all you need to know. The course is average and has quite a few hills actually. It plays as a par 70 with one par 5 and two par 3s on each nine. There's leagues at night so it can sometimes be hard to get a quick round in towards sun down if you get stuck behind them-if that's the case I'll sometimes skip around on holes, no one has ever seemed to mind as long as you don't interrupt anyone else's pace of play. There's a few locals that live nearby we've played a few holes with and they all seem like really cool people. They also offer student discounts just like all the other St. Paul public municipal courses. The course could be groomed a little nicer, the rough is often long and the greens are sometimes slow. Like another reviewer said, the course is laid out goofy in parts so if you're walking you will definitely get your exercise. In all reality this should have probably just been a nice long 9 hole course but shortened it down and through in 18. This results in people playing in each other's fairways from sliced drives and what not. But hey, don't take my word for it. Check this course out for yourself. read more

The Good... --It's cheap. Only $27/person. --For a public course, the fairways were remarkably well-maintained. --I love Como Park. --The goslings and ducklings were adorable. The Bad... --Goose poop. --Unusual layout, you do a lot of back-tracking and aimless wandering to get from one hole to another -- The holes are too narrow and are very close together. I lost count of how many times someone from another hole would pop up to play a ball from our hole because they hit it too far left or right from their own. --Ball thiefs golf here!!! On the first hole, my fiance's ball was stolen by a man with a paunch who was wearing a Twins hat. I KNOW he stole it because he was standing about five feet from where I saw it land. But when we got over there, the ball was nowhere in sight. So for the second hole I marched with determination to where I saw the ball land. I caught a young man wearing a Ping hat picking up balls. If life had a soundtrack, Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" would have immediately been cued because I kept rushing towards him with my hair flying all over the place (it was really windy the day we came here) and as soon as he saw me coming towards him, he dropped two balls and then took off at a fast lope in the opposite direction. Loser. The Amusing... --local Minnesota wildlife galore! This includes: ducks, geese, squirrels and AFRICAN LIONS. African lions, wha?!?!? From the seventh and eighth holes, the Como Zoo is visible and while we were on those holes, the lion was exhibiting his authority and roared loudly the entire time I was trying to putt. The plan here seems to be to let it go to the point of justifying closure. Maintenance is terrible, service is non-existent and none of it appears to be the fault of the staff. Apparently the city has decided to allow it to flounder so they can close it and use its area to expand the park. Sad for a course that at one time drew a good crowd. read more

This is by far the worst course I have ever played. The pace of play can be described as slow at best. At one point there were 5 groups playing two holes and one of the groups had 6 players. Also, the danger level of this course is a 10. The fairways are on top of each other causing people from othr holes to hit at you on a regular basis, I would highly recommend wearing a helmet while playing. If you would like to stand around wating on a tee box for a few hours, have golf balls play at you from multiple holes, and occasionally hit golf shot, then this is your course! read more

So let me start by saying that Ive been playing Como for more than 20 years and it is a quaint little golf course; probably one of the better 'city' courses in the area and fun to play. My biggest issue with the course currently is the staff. The cost cutting is significantly more evident in the poor customer service than it is in the condition of the course, from the young guys working the desk who just don't give a... to the afternoon starter who rules the course like her own personal kingdom, they effectively take much of the fun out of it. This is especially true if you want to bring kids to learn how to play. I absolutely wouldn't bother as it was made very clear to me they weren't welcome. This is very unfortunate because Como has the potential to be a great family course to introduce kids to the sport and get a whole new generation involved. Instead the staff makes it nearly impossible to enjoy as they try to run it like you were playing in a PGA tournament. Funny thing is....I had better acceptance of my kids playing at TPC than I did Como which I would have never expected. read more
