Place is overall good but the portion could have been bigger on the protein. This has been my overview with the place. Last two times I have ordered steak milanesa and chilaquiles steak and I have got so thin slice of steak. Other than that food and the place is good.

I'm usually one to give a fair review but unfortunately I did not have a good experience from the start. I walked in and was waiting to be seated by a waitress (who was on the phone) but was skipped over an the group behind me which were seated first. When I informed the person that we were first, he stated that the lady on the phone would seat us. Then they sat us in the very back of the restaurant, when I asked for a different seat I was given a very dry excuse. Then the waitress spilt my guests beer on the table and barely made an effort to make it right. The food took forever and I immediately cancelled my food order. I felt discriminated against and there was no effort to make the situation right.

Dos Equis. Beer from the tap flat and warm ... wasn't great.

Ambiance was nice, service ok, food was very good but there were no accoutrements- no hot sauce, no ketchup for fries.... they barely gave a half a teaspoon of sour cream for the fajitas. Like none. The beer was flat and warm from the tap. Would stick to margaritas. Overall just ok.

We came here on a Taco Tuesday as we heard these were some of the best tacos in town. We were greeted politely by staff, not super busy to plenty of tables to choose from. Although we were here for tacos, I couldn't help but get a tostada -- those are really more my jam to get that crunchiness. Al pastor tacos - seasoning on the meat was great, nice salsas and fresh cilantro and white onions - fresh, memorable, and delicious. Tostada ceviche - more muted in flavor, but nothing some hot sauce couldn't fix. Ceviche in itself it really wet with the fish and lemon juice, but it broke apart pretty quickly. I will try another tostada in the future - perhaps the chorizo!

I visited this place for the first time and I was impressed. I ordered the molcajete which is grilled steak, grilled chicken, shrimp, cactus, chives, topped with slices of queso fresco served with a side of rice, refried beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and tortillas. To drink I ordered the strawberry margarita made with Casamigos. The margarita and the molcajete were really good. The chips and red salsa were good as well. One of the best salsas I've had.

Came on very busy Cinco de Mayo. There was live music and dancing - very fun. We stood by the bar and had a few drinks. Good service and good food. My only complaint is a few of our orders were incorrect but would return.

By far one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been too in a LONG time. This gem is in the downtown area and is a MUST if you're craving some authentic Mexican style food. We sat down right away outside and were given fresh chips with mild and hot salsa. Chips were freshly fried and guacamole was made at your table. I got the steak fajita salad which was out of this world. From the guac to pico de gallo, all are fresh ingredients making the dish so much better. Also got some tacos and the cheese quesadilla and both were amazing. For dessert we got the fried ice cream, it looked so good I forgot to take a picture! This was my first time going to Compadres and certainly won't be the last. They have a 6 page menu so the options are literally endless. Every item we ordered was perfect and delicious, I'm glad we stumbled upon this place and highly recommend it!!

Service was fantastic and they were very helpful with taking our order and explaining anything on the menu. We found a table and they brought us over chips/salsa/queso. All of these were so good and it was a struggle not to eat it all... I wanted to enjoy my tacos. Everyone in our group enjoyed their food and there were absolutely zero leftovers remaining! My two pastor and one steak tacos were overflowing with yummy goodness and I was definitely full afterwards! It's so nice that you can order tacos a la carte (or you can go the full meal and get the rice and beans etc, but I never eat them) for a reasonable price. I did squeeze my limes over the tacos, but they were so good as is I didn't even sample the salsas they brought to the table. It was the start of my day so I didn't get to enjoy an adult beverage, but certainly plan to be back again.

My previous view was based hugely upon the poor customer experience that I had endured. But two weeks ago I returned because I was seriously craving a taco and the other nearby place had finally convinced me they were second rate. (I wrote a small bit, about that location, not more than a couple weeks back. I won't name it, but I rather hope these words will be taken to heart and affect change) But upon my reentry to this place I was beyond pleasantly surprised. Eduardo, the owner whom I have since met, is the reason why I have returned. An active and dedicated team needs their captain. So trying to reimagine the perfect taco place I had a fresh mindset and I think I was accurate about that choice. Today marks the 6th time in roughly 2 weeks. Basic ground beef tacos with onions, cilantro and some lime. Cheap and delicious. Absolutely not a bastardized low fat gringo taco. Not at all. Heavy on the filling and tasty. It's only missing one ingredient: spice. The orders include a pair of sauces, a green and red plastic cup with something resembling a hot sauce. Tuesday is a $1 ground beef taco. Sparse but not lacking in the meat. So glad I tried again. Eduardo has a key quality that makes a place feel welcoming. Friendly, and informative about the foods that are available. I don't speak Spanish, aside from simple jargon that every English speaker has to have as their basic vocabulary, even in regular American speak day to day situations. The place vibrates with a lot of ethnic authenticity right here in my Middleton neighborhood where I've lived now for 15 of my 25 years in Wisconsin.

Overall, I was disappointed. The atmosphere and service was great, however the quality of the food was generally low. The complimentary basket of chips with salsa was not finished since the salsa itself lacked flavor. The horchata was clearly not homemade, but was still good as it was sweet. The real source of disappointment came with the main dish. At a glance, I could see neither the rice nor the beans was fresh. A forkful of both confirmed it. The enchiladas themselves were a bit better, as the chicken inside had a great flavor and the salsa offered a nice spike of acidity. But overall the flavors in the meal fell flat. There are far better options in Madison for Mexican and I will not be returning to this location.

After trying different variations from other restaurants in Chicago and Madison, I have to say they have the best carne asada fries (titled Loaded Fries under the shareable section). The fries are wedged with an assortment of quac, sour cream, their own cheese sauce, and pico de gallo. What made it so good was the ratios of the ingredients and the cheese sauce. The portions are enough for two people to share, though you may leave with clogged arteries. Although at times there may be a language barrier with staff, they were attentive to our needs and checked on us regularly. A fun fact is that they are located behind the grocery store aspect of the place. Vibes were great.

The lengua was not cleaned well or seared so it was just gray meat with veins and other sclera in it. Cauliflower was typical bar food "deep fried buffalo" style, but on a taco. Guac was decent. I think the gal making margaritas mixed up sugar and salt and our drinks were salty. Poor service - total of 3 people attended our table but nobody returned to check on us. Total experience $45.

I tried calling for about 40 minutes (starting at home, then for my drive there). Nothing but a busy signal. Odd. I got there, and there was a new sign up for "La Casa Del Marisco". Okay, still Mexican food - so we'll try it. I go in and ask if it's the same place (just a new name) or completely different. He says it's all different. I grab a menu and it's the CAMINO REAL menu. Huh?Well, at least I know what I'm getting! The downside - all the prices were adjusted (like, our two entres were $5 and $6 more each - a considerable hike, imho). So, about that dropped star... the food was okay. Perhaps I was expecting more from the "new" place. But it just didn't hit me right. Plus, paying more for it all didn't help. We spent $57 for two entrees, a (smallish) side of cheese dip, and tip. For that money, it should be exceptional. It was not exceptional. At this point, we'll probably drop this place off of our "go-to list".

The coupon wasn't really feasible for one person, so we made a ladies' night of it and came as a group. It wasn't a super busy night and our service was very attentive! We started with a round of lime house margaritas. They came in a nice sized glass but I was not the only one who mentioned that they seemed a bit easy on the alcohol and watered down. Still not bad, though. Everybody raved about their food. Collectively we had the fish tacos, farmhouse quesadilla, shrimp/chicken/steak fajitas, and maybe a burrito? All around delicious food with generous portion sizes for the price. I got the chicken fajitas, used up all of my tortillas, and still had a good-sized amount for leftovers. I threw my leftovers over rice for lunch the next day and it was divine. Next time I'll struggle between choosing the steak fajitas or trying out some of the tacos. It is a bit annoying in this day and age that they won't split checks, but they do at least state if up front on the menu so there's no surprise. And after all that, I forgot to bring my coupon!!! We had such a pleasant experience that we all decided it was an excuse to come back in early December so we can all try something new on the menu :) Next time I'll remember to take photos of our fantastic food!

When I stopped in a few weeks ago, I ordered my old tried and true - the chicken quesadilla. This used to be my favorite quesadilla around, because cubed meat disgusts me, and Pasqual's is one of the few places I've ever found that uses pulled chicken. The flavor just wasn't what I remembered, it was rather bland, despite the peppers and the hot salsa. The rice was pretty dry, and also lacked flavor. The chips are still fire though - that seasoning dust on them just really kicks it up a notch! Huge fan of those, and I'm glad you can buy them in the store.
