Olives after photo of tarter free clean teeth

As a new resident of Encinitas I was looking for a good veterinarian for my pups. My dog Olive needed a teeth cleaning and Companion Pet Care did a great job. I like that they are a small vet office that really takes pride in caring for my pets.

Dr Ted and staff took such great care of all three of my babies, Sunshine and Kingsley when they both had to go in for spay, Kingsley for a growth on her front leg and newest foster failure Rio for all her baby care . Great communication throughout and great care - we felt our pups were in the best hands and all of them recovered with less stress and are in good health. Thanks Companion Pet Care!

We are new clients and I have never been more impressed by a veterinary team. Everyone is focused on the well-being of the dog, and their follow-through is kind and caring. Both Pippi and Graciela enjoyed their visits.

We are forever grateful for Dr. Ted Burghardt and his team at Companion Pet Care in Encinitas, CA. They have once again exceeded our expectations with the neuter surgery on our beloved rescue pup Kaipo! We have brought our own pets and referred family and friends to Dr. Burghardt for many years, long before his work at Companion Pet Care. He is a superb veterinarian, surgeon, has a fantastic bedside manner and has high morals. Companion Pet Care is close to the 5, right off the 101- there's always parking in their lot and the clinic is warm and inviting. The staff is knowledgeable, kind, and professional. They have a clinic cat and dog who act as the welcoming committee and make the hospital feel like the mom-pop clinics of the past. The hospital has all the modern equipment and they text/email and call with care reminders. In 2019 Dr. Burghardt and the Companion Pet Care team took care of our 9 year old Maltipoo's dental cleaning with extractions, our King Charles Cavalier Spaniel's complicated dental, extractions, and oral surgery, and our Dobie mix rescue pup's spay/microchip. We've had dogs all of our lives and never have they recovered so beautifully after complex procedures as they have after seeing Dr. Burghardt. We trust him and his team with our fur family members and feel blessed to have found him!

Our two elderly dachshunds (age 14) have received excellent care from Dr. B and his team of caring nurses and assistants for many years now. I cannot recommend this practice enough.

    Thank you!

Doctor Ted is the best. He and his staff work very hard to make our rescue Sandy feel comfortable. Nugget is the sweetest host! Sandy loves her. Thanks for everything!

genuinely cannot say enough good things about Dr. Campbell and the entire team at VEG…read more Our dog, Remi, ended up needing emergency abdominal surgery for an intestinal obstruction, and it was an incredibly stressful and emotional experience. From the moment we arrived until we left, the care we received was exceptional. Dr. Campbell was incredible. I had a lot of questions and concerns, and not once did she make me feel rushed, dismissed, or like I was being difficult. She would sit down with me, explain what she was seeing, what our options were, and why she was recommending what she was recommending. She was patient, thorough, articulate, and confident without ever being condescending. I was having an extremely difficult time with the decision to put Remi through surgery, and she gave me the information I needed without ever pressuring me. I remember telling my wife that if Remi had to have surgery, I was incredibly grateful Dr. Campbell was the one taking care of her. The surgery went extremely well. Dr. Campbell found and removed the obstruction, and thankfully Remi's intestines were healthy. Afterward, she took the time to explain what she found, how Remi did, what to expect during recovery, and even discussed an unrelated finding so we could monitor it in the future. There are people who are technically excellent at what they do, and there are people who are excellent at taking care of the human being on the other side of the exam table. Dr. Campbell is both. Benji was also incredible. His focus was on making sure I was okay during an extremely difficult night. He checked on me constantly, went out of his way to ask if there was anything he could do, and always seemed to show up at the right time with a positive attitude and some reassurance. His kindness was genuine, and those small gestures made a much bigger difference than he probably realizes. Theresa took amazing care of Remi after surgery. She was incredibly patient, kind, and sweet with her. It was obvious that Remi was with someone who genuinely cared about her comfort and recovery. Theresa patiently answered all of our questions, kept us informed, and gave us a lot of peace of mind. Natalie was fantastic as well. She carefully went through the estimates with me and made sure everything was clearly explained. While I was away, she even took photos of Remi and sent them to me so I could see that she was doing okay. At the end, Natalie found a roughly $200 credit that was owed back to us and made sure it was refunded. After such a significant and unexpected veterinary bill, that level of transparency gave me a lot of confidence that Remi's care was truly the priority, not simply maximizing the bill. I also want to recognize everyone whose names I unfortunately didn't get. Especially in the beginning, I was so worried about Remi that remembering names was about the last thing on my mind. The surgical team was amazing. They kept me informed every step of the way, explained what was happening, what was normal, what to expect, and how Remi was doing. After Remi came out of surgery, they did everything they could to reassure me and make me feel better--even while immediately preparing for another surgery. Their compassion during what was obviously an incredibly busy night meant a lot. There was also a nurse who cared for Remi after surgery whose name I unfortunately didn't get. She was incredible. I had a lot of questions, and she patiently answered every one of them. She made sure Remi was constantly checked on and did everything she could to keep her comfortable while she recovered. I wish I had gotten everyone's names because there are more people who deserve to be recognized individually. Every person we encountered, from start to finish, treated Remi and our family with kindness and compassion. This was one of the hardest experiences I've had with Remi, but I never once felt like we were going through it alone. I trusted this team with a member of my family, and I would do so again without hesitation. Thank you to Dr. Campbell and everyone at VEG for taking such incredible care of our girl--and for taking care of us along the way.

She addressed his abscess, which had burst, causing blood and pus to flow down his chest area. The staff were professional, friendly and kind. I appreciated that they were attentive not only to the patient, but also to parents and other dogs present for emotional support. (I brought along Skyler's sister Scarlet who is a 2 year old dachshund mix.) They generously offered water and snacks to parents in addition to a blanket for Scarlet after noticing she was cold. In total, the visit took 3 hours, since Sky needed to be sedated. We returned 3 days after to remove his drain, which was done gently and at no extra charge. There was no problem submitting invoices to pet insurance, and the reimbursement was even expedited, since the insurance company found zero issues with the paperwork. Thank you

After a lot of research, we decided the LOVE spay was the best option for our girl. I came across Dr. Ryan Tedder at Coastal Animal Hospital. I was nervous about the procedure, but wow, this doctor is an absolute GEM. If only everyone was like him! He took the time to fully explain the LOVE spay procedure, answered all of our questions, and eased every doubt we had. The day came, and it was a successful surgery. Dr. Tedder called afterward, walked us through exactly how everything went, and when we picked her up, he went through everything again with us and explained her recovery. This is a far drive for us, but we will absolutely make it every single time if it means receiving this level of care for our girl. If you're worried about the LOVE spay or are thinking about this clinic, I promise you this is the right place. The staff is great, with the all-star Dr. Tedder manning the helm. On my last visit I brought Sage in because her regular flea medication had stopped working and she needed a worm pill and an antibiotic since she got infected. The initial estimate was about $800 but I did not do the tests they wanted so I paid a little less. Fast forward to this morning when my Chewy Autoship informed me that "Your veterinary clinic, Santa Fe Animal Clinic - CA, has opted not to support online prescription approvals through Chewy". So on the day before Thanksgiving I now have one additional errand of running to their office, picking up the prescription and mailing it in. To make things worse, they are holding my cat Pepper Jack's flea prescription hostage because he is healthy and has not seen the vet recently. I feel like they are using the prescriptions as leverage to force people to make unnecessary appointments and that they know some people will just pay for the flea medication when they arrive at the clinic out of convenience. I will not support a business that resort to withholding medications for my pets to get more of my money. I declined to schedule an appointment and am picking a new vet that cares for my fur babies. I asked her how many customers they have lost due to this policy she replied "I am not taking a tally".

During our visit with Dr. Hackett, I felt like I was unnecessarily alarmed and pushed toward additional testing that turned out to be completely unnecessary. I brought in my two dogs, including my Border Collie, whose heart rate Dr. Hackett immediately treated as a serious concern. She made it sound like something could be very wrong and suggested multiple tests to rule out an emergency situation. My border collie also gets seizures which I told Dr. Hackett about and she told me she thought they are fainting spells due to his low heart rate, not seizures. Which I also got confirmations he definitely has seizures and nothing else like she suggested. After leaving very worried, I sought second opinions from other veterinarians. They all reassured me that my Border Collie's heart rate was completely normal for the breed and that they have seen even lower heart rates in athletic dogs like him despite his seizures. What was presented to me as potentially alarming was actually very typical. The same thing happened with my senior dog. Dr. Hackett told me her kidney and liver values were elevated and strongly pushed further testing, making it sound urgent. When I had another vet review the labs, they explained the values were only slightly elevated and extremely common in older dogs. They even told me she is far more likely to pass from old age before those numbers would ever reach liver failure levels. They also mentioned the slight elevation could simply be due to her high-protein diet. The experience left me feeling like fear was used to push unnecessary testing rather than providing balanced, knowledgeable guidance. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and extra expense. Because of this, I would personally recommend seeking care elsewhere and getting a second opinion if you are ever told something is urgently wrong here.
