My cat Charlie required immediate care and ultimately surgery on 8-13-25. I was so scared that I was going to lose Charlie. He hid in a large bush but was meowing in pain. He finally came out a few hours later, with help from several neighbors. He needed urgent help and I started at my neighborhood vet, Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic. Charlie and I were offered immediate assistance. All of the staff were so kind and showed great care as we determined Charlie's injuries. They were calm, and therefore, he was calm. After X-rays and CT of his organs, he showed that he had no broken bones or punctured organs/internal bleeding! However, he did require reattachment of his skin to his bones on one of his hind legs and stitches on his other leg. A huge thanks to Dr. Halsey and her team and we were sent quickly to Tell Tail Moonlight Veterinary Center in Encinitas, where they were ready and waiting for Charlie! The office staff was also very kind and caring and the facility is very clean-I didn't even detect that it was a veterinary center with my nose. Dr. Soares was very thoughtful and thorough explaining the surgery plan, and her team successfully completed the surgery, as well as a toe amputation. They worked on him well past closing time. Veterinary angels, if you ask me! Hands down, I would give my highest recommendation to both of these businesses for your veterinary needs. I saw a lot of happy pets and happy owners that day while I waited for Charlie! I'm a huge fan!

He loved his acupuncture from Dr. Halsey

Moonlight veterinarian center became our vet for a short month and a half. We worked with Dr. Halsey with my dog for treatment of spinal issues, arthritis, issues, underlining, health concerns. My dog to give you a little bit of a background was just shy of 16 years old. He was suffering from spinal problems, arthritic, myopathy, heart murmur possible, basically was slowing down. He had been on gabapentin for years, and everything under the sun that was the new medication. Unfortunately, since it was neurology, none of it mattered. I reached out to Dr. Halsey, wanting a second opinion where we were able to come up with a plan to keep him comfortable with prednisone, gabapentin, red, light therapy, and acupuncture every week when it was time to let him go, he only showed pains/ anxiety in his breath for about 45 minutes thank god I was able to get him in on a Saturday in the evening. I was very lucky to go there and be able to let my boy go with their my family members and the caring staff at Moonlight Vets Dr. Halsey and her staff went above and beyond in this moment of exiting for my boy. The healthcare that she did provide for him during the short period that we were patient was amazing. She was compassionate. She sat on the ground and spoke with him. you could tell that she really does care about the animal. Their facility is clean. It's staff is also very compassionate, it takes time to listen to you, no matter what your question is and how long which I feel is very important to people when it comes to their loving pets I want to say thank you to them for making this transition easierand I also want to say thank you. My dog loved the therapy. I only wish I would've thought about it sooner and found Dr. Halsey I feel my dog could've had even more of a quality life. Thank you.

This morning my dog ripped his dew claw and was bleeding a lot. I called as soon as they opened and they were able to fit me in within the hour. Dr. Halsey fixed him up in 20 minutes! I was so grateful they didn't have to sedate him! I highly recommend this hospital. Dr. Halsey is the best!!!

A brief wait in a bright and airy exam room!

I am already a huge fan of Dr. Halsey and her other two veterinary practices -- Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic and Tell Tail Veterinary Urgent Care, both of which are within about 3 miles of us. When our shih tzu Zorro started limping because of a tender toe on Sunday, we decided to wait until Monday to see if he could be seen by either location because the toe wasn't terrible and we wanted to go somewhere that knew his history. But unfortunately, by Monday morning, his toe was red and angry so he had to be seen ASAP. They recommended going to Moonlight as soon as they opened at 11am so he could be seen immediately. We weren't thrilled about driving 30 miles, but wow, this facility is as good as it gets -- it even has an elevator from the parking garage to the lobby, and it has a nice outdoor courtyard where we waited for them to open. Sarai was expecting us and welcomed us in, greeting us with kindness and care as she checked us in to the spacious and bright lobby. Then vet tech Juliette took us into a sparkling clean exam room with lots of natural light. She took the time to understand what was going on with Zorro, and had clearly familiarized herself with his history before she saw us. Then we met Dr. Soares -- I mean we ADORE Dr. Halsey but Dr. Soares is very close behind Dr. Halsey in our hearts now. She is thorough, understanding, compassionate, smart, personable, and above all, an excellent communicator. Dr. Soares and her whole team took care good care of our boy during his time there -- her treatment paid off almost immediately as he wasn't limping when we left. And two days later, his bright red toe looked almost as good as new. We are THRILLED to have Moonlight as an option for urgent care. We wouldn't hesitate driving this distance again. And even more exciting, they're now expanding their services with specialist care. I really can't say enough about them, as my wordy review will attest. Thank you, Moonlight Team!!!!

    My sick fur baby

Hands down best Vet I've seen in the life of my 16 year old cockapoo. Dr. Halsey was thoughtful, thorough, cost conscious, practical and compassionate in her treatment recommendations for an acute illness in my dog. I felt totally taken care of by the staff and as an added bonus my dog didn't shiver in the treatment room . The facility is beautifully renovated, clean and comfortable. This will be my new go to veterinarian for my fur baby. .

I'm so incredibly impressed with Moonlight Veterinary Urgent Care. My dog, Holly, was a little naughty and ate something she shouldn't have so we took her right in. All of the staff were very friendly and kind. They were able to see Holly very quickly and took wonderful care of her for all of her treatments. The doctor was very personable and answered all of my questions with seemingly endless patience. I'm also very grateful they are open until 9pm since I was able to bring her in after I got off work. I appreciate their availability in that regard. Thank you for making my baby feel better

I've never gotten to watch them work like this or for this length of time. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is something that I've never seen before and I am so impressed. It's open concept so everyone being treated is all in the same room and they let you stay with your pet the entire time, even during surgery. They even have rooms that you can sleep in! They let you lay on the floor and hold your baby, they get on the floor to help your baby. I couldn't stay with Mei touching her or even letting her see me because of the spaz attack she has when she sees me which causes her to gasp for air, but they got me a padded bench to sit next to her chamber, close but out of sight. I watched them do a surgery on a cat, a surgery on a dog, leap tables to get to a dog who was seizing, to hold him safe while another tech skidded across the floor with meds like out of a movie, I saw them sprint across the room to stop a large dog from hurting himself, deal with sobbing pet parents (me), carry a massive pig in, x ray that massive pig, treat a ferret, treat a dog for rattlesnake bite, and all the other stuff- it was non. Stop. all with calm yet fierce professionalism and kindness and caring. It takes some special people to work in this field! Competent af. These people know what they are doing. I came flying through their door at 9am with Mei in significant breathing distress like a bat out of hell. I practically fell through the door. I thought she would die in the car on the way over there. I called to let them know I was on my way and they were ready for me when I got there. They shouted "triage!" And 4 people rushed over and immediately put Mei on oxygen and went to work troubleshooting. They put her in the oxygen chamber right away. They noticed that when she saw me she lost her shit and started gasping like crazy so they told me to hide to keep her calmer; and they were right. When I laid down on a bench and closed my eyes I awoke to the doctor putting a blanket on me and the nurse had left a pillow. The open concept allows drs and nurses to move quickly and freely and see everything and communicate things that they need. There were not curtains to block what was happening, no doors to get in the way, you see it all. I appreciated it because I like to KNOW. I want to SEE, otherwise how can you know they are doing it right? I highly, highly recommend them! Blessings on all the heir houses! Truly angels on earth. I owe them a debt I can never repay- they saved my Mei Dr Romy was our doctor and she even stayed late to make sure that Mei didn't get lost in the shuffle during shift change- and I'm talking hours late. If there was ever a vet that deserves donations and volunteers to help it's them. Donate! Volunteer! I am so grateful to them I can't recommend them enough!

Walking into an emergency vet is always stressful, but the staff here immediately made things feel calmer. Everyone at the front desk and the techs were kind, patient, and never made me feel rushed or silly for being worried. We saw Dr. Leah Sauerwein, and she was amazing. She explained everything in a way that actually made sense, talked through options, and made sure I felt comfortable with the plan. You can tell she really cares, not just about the pets, but about the owners too. That level of trust is huge when you are dealing with something unexpected. Both visits were smooth, professional, and compassionate from start to finish. I left feeling informed, supported, and confident in the care my pet received. I would absolutely come back if I ever needed emergency care again, and I would recommend this location to anyone in the area.

Dog was kept in the facility for the following 3 days. Went for a visit and was asked if he had anything wrong with his paw. Answer was of course "NO". They explained he had swelling on his paw and that rinsing with warm water would take care of it. They made no mention of embolisms, clots, restraints etc. When we took him back 5 days later with his skin falling off, they tried blaming it on some random "embolism" event. Nothing mentioned of this previously and they obviously didnt bother evaluating or treating for this? In my opinon the injury was from restricting blood flow "tourniquet effect "to the limb based on the circular mark on his paw with damage and swelling below that line. An external pressure injury. In any case, he was in their care when the injury happened. There is nothing showing anyone checked bandages for pressure, ties for being applied appropriately, or that anyone checked his extremities for proper circulation. I believe the "embolism" was nothing but an excuse for their own failures inserted into the record 5 days later. Many months of care, cleaning, changing bandages and preventing him from licking his wound. A full time job. My poor dog still has difficulty walking almost a year later. Sent a demand letter to VCA requesting refund of money I paid for the surgery and other medical treatment. Letter went unanswered. Their insurance company contacted me asking for receipts, which I provided. They then did nothing. I finally filed suit in small claims court. No answer from VCA. Court date pending. nothing explaining their role in this. Filed complaint with licensing board for investigation into their actions and ethics. I brought my dog in because he was panting heavily and seemed restless. At that time, he was still active and able to walk and run normally. After the examination, the hospital performed X-rays, blood work, and an ultrasound, and I was charged about $1,700. Despite all of these tests, they said they could not determine what was wrong with him. Even so, they prescribed antibiotics and discharged us. When we returned home, my dog's condition became dramatically worse. He stopped eating and drinking, became extremely lethargic, and within 24 hours he could barely move and was unable to walk on his own. I called the hospital and was told this was not normal, so I brought him back immediately. However, instead of trying to investigate what might have gone wrong, the hospital insisted that I would need to pay again just for bringing my dog back . The veterinarian suggested they could prescribe painkillers if I wanted. I explained that my dog had been walking and active when I first brought him in, and that the only symptom he had was panting. After all the tests and procedures performed at this hospital, he left unable to walk. Yet the staff still could not explain what had happened and continued suggesting additional medications. The most concerning part of this experience was the veterinarian's unprofessional conduct. When I expressed that I did not think it was fair to pay for another recheck under these circumstances, her attitude immediately changed. She insisted that my dog's current condition had nothing to do with their treatment. Feeling frustrated and unheard, I decided to take my dog home and seek another opinion instead of continuing treatment there. Later, my second veterinarian requested my dog's medical report from Escondido Veterinary Emergency. I learned that the report included details of the argument I had with the hospital and quoted my words. Including personal disputes with a pet owner in a medical record is highly unprofessional. Medical reports should document only the patient's medical condition, findings, and treatment. Recording and sharing personal arguments in a professional report can unfairly influence other veterinarians reviewing the case. As of today, Escondido Veterinary Emergency has not yet sent me a copy of this report, despite having paid $1,700 for the tests and procedures. I strongly encourage other pet owners to think carefully before bringing their animals here.

The dr explained what was the recommendation (surgery) but answered all my questions, even ones about what would happen if I did not do surgery (it is expensive). The dr was kind and understanding and said it was ok if I chose to do nothing. He gave me signs to look out for if my pet was in distress or decline as quality of life would need to be assessed. I got the actual quote for the surgery and it was $1500 less than the Dr had estimated (which was appreciated) and the vet tech went over some of the charges I may not incur if they are not needed (blood transfusion, extra night in hospital). I appreciated that they were willing to have some flexibility in what is a cost prohibitive procedure. They did not pressure me to make a decision, stated I could call back after having time to think or explore finances (it would require some kind of financial assistance to be able to do the surgery, the vet tech gave us some options she had utilized in the past). The Dr also wrote a rx for essentially dog Tylenol and called it in to Costco to further save money. I understand that Dr's expertise (and the vet tech) needs to be compensated but $265 for talking for less than 30 minutes seems excessive. For about a 45 minute appt with the vet tech/Dr (surgeon) it was about $6 a minute. If you spread it out over the time we were waiting in the lobby not interacting with anyone if brings the cost down to $5 a minute for the hour long consultation. I feel it would have been more reasonable to have a fee of around $150. Parking is very impacted in this area due to many businesses sharing one lot. The spots are also small and people do not park well so you may not be able to get in or out of your car. Overall it was a good experience but an expensive one.
