My cat Charlie required immediate care and ultimately surgery on 8-13-25. I was so scared that I was going to lose Charlie. He hid in a large bush but was meowing in pain. He finally came out a few hours later, with help from several neighbors. He needed urgent help and I started at my neighborhood vet, Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic. Charlie and I were offered immediate assistance. All of the staff were so kind and showed great care as we determined Charlie's injuries. They were calm, and therefore, he was calm. After X-rays and CT of his organs, he showed that he had no broken bones or punctured organs/internal bleeding! However, he did require reattachment of his skin to his bones on one of his hind legs and stitches on his other leg. A huge thanks to Dr. Halsey and her team and we were sent quickly to Tell Tail Moonlight Veterinary Center in Encinitas, where they were ready and waiting for Charlie! The office staff was also very kind and caring and the facility is very clean-I didn't even detect that it was a veterinary center with my nose. Dr. Soares was very thoughtful and thorough explaining the surgery plan, and her team successfully completed the surgery, as well as a toe amputation. They worked on him well past closing time. Veterinary angels, if you ask me! Hands down, I would give my highest recommendation to both of these businesses for your veterinary needs. I saw a lot of happy pets and happy owners that day while I waited for Charlie! I'm a huge fan!

Moonlight veterinarian center became our vet for a short month and a half. We worked with Dr. Halsey with my dog for treatment of spinal issues, arthritis, issues, underlining, health concerns. My dog to give you a little bit of a background was just shy of 16 years old. He was suffering from spinal problems, arthritic, myopathy, heart murmur possible, basically was slowing down. He had been on gabapentin for years, and everything under the sun that was the new medication. Unfortunately, since it was neurology, none of it mattered. I reached out to Dr. Halsey, wanting a second opinion where we were able to come up with a plan to keep him comfortable with prednisone, gabapentin, red, light therapy, and acupuncture every week when it was time to let him go, he only showed pains/ anxiety in his breath for about 45 minutes thank god I was able to get him in on a Saturday in the evening. I was very lucky to go there and be able to let my boy go with their my family members and the caring staff at Moonlight Vets Dr. Halsey and her staff went above and beyond in this moment of exiting for my boy. The healthcare that she did provide for him during the short period that we were patient was amazing. She was compassionate. She sat on the ground and spoke with him. you could tell that she really does care about the animal. Their facility is clean. It's staff is also very compassionate, it takes time to listen to you, no matter what your question is and how long which I feel is very important to people when it comes to their loving pets I want to say thank you to them for making this transition easierand I also want to say thank you. My dog loved the therapy. I only wish I would've thought about it sooner and found Dr. Halsey I feel my dog could've had even more of a quality life. Thank you.

This morning my dog ripped his dew claw and was bleeding a lot. I called as soon as they opened and they were able to fit me in within the hour. Dr. Halsey fixed him up in 20 minutes! I was so grateful they didn't have to sedate him! I highly recommend this hospital. Dr. Halsey is the best!!!

I am already a huge fan of Dr. Halsey and her other two veterinary practices -- Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic and Tell Tail Veterinary Urgent Care, both of which are within about 3 miles of us. When our shih tzu Zorro started limping because of a tender toe on Sunday, we decided to wait until Monday to see if he could be seen by either location because the toe wasn't terrible and we wanted to go somewhere that knew his history. But unfortunately, by Monday morning, his toe was red and angry so he had to be seen ASAP. They recommended going to Moonlight as soon as they opened at 11am so he could be seen immediately. We weren't thrilled about driving 30 miles, but wow, this facility is as good as it gets -- it even has an elevator from the parking garage to the lobby, and it has a nice outdoor courtyard where we waited for them to open. Sarai was expecting us and welcomed us in, greeting us with kindness and care as she checked us in to the spacious and bright lobby. Then vet tech Juliette took us into a sparkling clean exam room with lots of natural light. She took the time to understand what was going on with Zorro, and had clearly familiarized herself with his history before she saw us. Then we met Dr. Soares -- I mean we ADORE Dr. Halsey but Dr. Soares is very close behind Dr. Halsey in our hearts now. She is thorough, understanding, compassionate, smart, personable, and above all, an excellent communicator. Dr. Soares and her whole team took care good care of our boy during his time there -- her treatment paid off almost immediately as he wasn't limping when we left. And two days later, his bright red toe looked almost as good as new. We are THRILLED to have Moonlight as an option for urgent care. We wouldn't hesitate driving this distance again. And even more exciting, they're now expanding their services with specialist care. I really can't say enough about them, as my wordy review will attest. Thank you, Moonlight Team!!!!

    My sick fur baby

Hands down best Vet I've seen in the life of my 16 year old cockapoo. Dr. Halsey was thoughtful, thorough, cost conscious, practical and compassionate in her treatment recommendations for an acute illness in my dog. I felt totally taken care of by the staff and as an added bonus my dog didn't shiver in the treatment room . The facility is beautifully renovated, clean and comfortable. This will be my new go to veterinarian for my fur baby. .

I'm so incredibly impressed with Moonlight Veterinary Urgent Care. My dog, Holly, was a little naughty and ate something she shouldn't have so we took her right in. All of the staff were very friendly and kind. They were able to see Holly very quickly and took wonderful care of her for all of her treatments. The doctor was very personable and answered all of my questions with seemingly endless patience. I'm also very grateful they are open until 9pm since I was able to bring her in after I got off work. I appreciate their availability in that regard. Thank you for making my baby feel better

    (323 reviews)

genuinely cannot say enough good things about Dr. Campbell and the entire team at VEG…read more Our dog, Remi, ended up needing emergency abdominal surgery for an intestinal obstruction, and it was an incredibly stressful and emotional experience. From the moment we arrived until we left, the care we received was exceptional. Dr. Campbell was incredible. I had a lot of questions and concerns, and not once did she make me feel rushed, dismissed, or like I was being difficult. She would sit down with me, explain what she was seeing, what our options were, and why she was recommending what she was recommending. She was patient, thorough, articulate, and confident without ever being condescending. I was having an extremely difficult time with the decision to put Remi through surgery, and she gave me the information I needed without ever pressuring me. I remember telling my wife that if Remi had to have surgery, I was incredibly grateful Dr. Campbell was the one taking care of her. The surgery went extremely well. Dr. Campbell found and removed the obstruction, and thankfully Remi's intestines were healthy. Afterward, she took the time to explain what she found, how Remi did, what to expect during recovery, and even discussed an unrelated finding so we could monitor it in the future. There are people who are technically excellent at what they do, and there are people who are excellent at taking care of the human being on the other side of the exam table. Dr. Campbell is both. Benji was also incredible. His focus was on making sure I was okay during an extremely difficult night. He checked on me constantly, went out of his way to ask if there was anything he could do, and always seemed to show up at the right time with a positive attitude and some reassurance. His kindness was genuine, and those small gestures made a much bigger difference than he probably realizes. Theresa took amazing care of Remi after surgery. She was incredibly patient, kind, and sweet with her. It was obvious that Remi was with someone who genuinely cared about her comfort and recovery. Theresa patiently answered all of our questions, kept us informed, and gave us a lot of peace of mind. Natalie was fantastic as well. She carefully went through the estimates with me and made sure everything was clearly explained. While I was away, she even took photos of Remi and sent them to me so I could see that she was doing okay. At the end, Natalie found a roughly $200 credit that was owed back to us and made sure it was refunded. After such a significant and unexpected veterinary bill, that level of transparency gave me a lot of confidence that Remi's care was truly the priority, not simply maximizing the bill. I also want to recognize everyone whose names I unfortunately didn't get. Especially in the beginning, I was so worried about Remi that remembering names was about the last thing on my mind. The surgical team was amazing. They kept me informed every step of the way, explained what was happening, what was normal, what to expect, and how Remi was doing. After Remi came out of surgery, they did everything they could to reassure me and make me feel better--even while immediately preparing for another surgery. Their compassion during what was obviously an incredibly busy night meant a lot. There was also a nurse who cared for Remi after surgery whose name I unfortunately didn't get. She was incredible. I had a lot of questions, and she patiently answered every one of them. She made sure Remi was constantly checked on and did everything she could to keep her comfortable while she recovered. I wish I had gotten everyone's names because there are more people who deserve to be recognized individually. Every person we encountered, from start to finish, treated Remi and our family with kindness and compassion. This was one of the hardest experiences I've had with Remi, but I never once felt like we were going through it alone. I trusted this team with a member of my family, and I would do so again without hesitation. Thank you to Dr. Campbell and everyone at VEG for taking such incredible care of our girl--and for taking care of us along the way.

She addressed his abscess, which had burst, causing blood and pus to flow down his chest area. The staff were professional, friendly and kind. I appreciated that they were attentive not only to the patient, but also to parents and other dogs present for emotional support. (I brought along Skyler's sister Scarlet who is a 2 year old dachshund mix.) They generously offered water and snacks to parents in addition to a blanket for Scarlet after noticing she was cold. In total, the visit took 3 hours, since Sky needed to be sedated. We returned 3 days after to remove his drain, which was done gently and at no extra charge. There was no problem submitting invoices to pet insurance, and the reimbursement was even expedited, since the insurance company found zero issues with the paperwork. Thank you

I've never gotten to watch them work like this or for this length of time. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is something that I've never seen before and I am so impressed. It's open concept so everyone being treated is all in the same room and they let you stay with your pet the entire time, even during surgery. They even have rooms that you can sleep in! They let you lay on the floor and hold your baby, they get on the floor to help your baby. I couldn't stay with Mei touching her or even letting her see me because of the spaz attack she has when she sees me which causes her to gasp for air, but they got me a padded bench to sit next to her chamber, close but out of sight. I watched them do a surgery on a cat, a surgery on a dog, leap tables to get to a dog who was seizing, to hold him safe while another tech skidded across the floor with meds like out of a movie, I saw them sprint across the room to stop a large dog from hurting himself, deal with sobbing pet parents (me), carry a massive pig in, x ray that massive pig, treat a ferret, treat a dog for rattlesnake bite, and all the other stuff- it was non. Stop. all with calm yet fierce professionalism and kindness and caring. It takes some special people to work in this field! Competent af. These people know what they are doing. I came flying through their door at 9am with Mei in significant breathing distress like a bat out of hell. I practically fell through the door. I thought she would die in the car on the way over there. I called to let them know I was on my way and they were ready for me when I got there. They shouted "triage!" And 4 people rushed over and immediately put Mei on oxygen and went to work troubleshooting. They put her in the oxygen chamber right away. They noticed that when she saw me she lost her shit and started gasping like crazy so they told me to hide to keep her calmer; and they were right. When I laid down on a bench and closed my eyes I awoke to the doctor putting a blanket on me and the nurse had left a pillow. The open concept allows drs and nurses to move quickly and freely and see everything and communicate things that they need. There were not curtains to block what was happening, no doors to get in the way, you see it all. I appreciated it because I like to KNOW. I want to SEE, otherwise how can you know they are doing it right? I highly, highly recommend them! Blessings on all the heir houses! Truly angels on earth. I owe them a debt I can never repay- they saved my Mei Dr Romy was our doctor and she even stayed late to make sure that Mei didn't get lost in the shuffle during shift change- and I'm talking hours late. If there was ever a vet that deserves donations and volunteers to help it's them. Donate! Volunteer! I am so grateful to them I can't recommend them enough!

Today, I brought in my 10 year old German Shepherd (Grady) to be seen after a few days of worsening…read morediarrhea and GI symptoms following anesthesia. The main reasons I am rating this as a 2 star visit are the levels of stress Grady encountered during the experience and that, in the end, I felt the visit was counterproductive. I'll start by saying a few things. I understand the high-stress nature of emergency medical services and given that Grady has a mildly reactive temperament, I would expect that on a relatively busy day managing his stress in an ER will be a challenge. That's a challenge I own every single day - and anyone who owns a reactive dog will understand the difficulty of keeping a reactive dog calm in a high-stress environment. I did the best I could - keeping Grady engaged on me rather than his surroundings and advocating for him throughout the visit. With that being said, I felt the accommodations for my dog were lacking. They did provide us a curtain like barrier to help Grady, but they also put us right next to another dog that was in a kennel and we were surrounded on all sides by other dogs in an open area, which was too much for Grady to handle. His rate of breathing, panting, shaking, whining, and overall fearfulness increased significantly as we waited to be seen. I articulated this to the staff, and I felt my concerns were not adequately addressed. Grady's vitals were checked twice over the course of about an hour, but that was the extent of care provided within the first hour. After that, they gave me an estimate of $453 for exam, a probiotic, fluids, and an additional fiber supplement. I would have considered it if Grady wasn't in such a state of stress, but at that point, I didn't know how long it was going to take for the fluids to be administered and in my estimation, Grady was already past his limit. I decided to reject the estimate and pay the $200 exam fee, which I don't have any qualms with. The positive result of the experience was that I did confirm Grady's vitals were OK. The negatives were that Grady's stress levels rose considerably throughout the visit, which were already heightened due to his diarrhea. I'm rating this overall experience 2 stars because, in hindsight, I would not have brought him in to be seen if I knew how much stress the overall experience induced on him. In my opinion, the extent of treatment was simply not worth the amount of stress incurred. With that being said and taking into consideration the nature of emergency medical services and the staff's overall standard of care, I would say that this group provides satisfactory emergency care for most dogs, in most situations, on most days. Today just wasn't that day, for reasons that aren't entirely in my or their control. Still, to improve their service standard, I would recommend that staff is trained to check in with owners on the stress levels of reactive dogs who are placed in an open area with other dogs in close proximity. If they had done that at least once during this visit, I would have given them 3 stars.

My dog Mousse suddenly lost the use of his back legs (IVDD), and time was critical. I spent last week calling dozens of vets for pricing. On Thursday afternoon, I called this hospital and was quoted $5,000-$9,000 for the MRI and surgery. I asked specifically whether that price included both the MRI and the surgery, because every hospital in LA had quoted me $14,000-$15,000, and I was told yes. I also asked, explicitly, if a neurologist could see him that night if I arrived before 8pm. I was told yes, they were on call until 8. So I took a three-hour Uber with my paralyzed dog, trusting he'd be cared for on arrival. I got there at 7pm. They checked him in. Fifteen minutes later I was told the neurologist was NOT coming that night, he'd be seen "in the morning." Then I was told the actual cost would be $15,000, not the $5,000-$9,000 I was quoted hours earlier. No reasonable person drives three hours each way with a paralyzed dog to pay the same price quoted at home, the only reason I made that trip was the quote they gave me. When I asked them to pull the recorded call to verify what I'd been told, I was informed no one could access the recording until Monday, and that someone would follow up. No one ever did. I had to call them myself a full week later (today) at which point I was told the call "wasn't recorded," despite their phone system announcing that calls may be recorded. When I escalated, the supervisor admitted that the front desk should never have quoted me prices at all and that she could not confirm what I was actually told on that call. To make it worse: the only thing offered that night was an ER exam I didn't need, my dog had already been evaluated by two ER vets that week. I came for a neurologist. During that exam, when I expressed concern that Mousse was in obvious pain I had to ask for pain medication for my suffering dog. I took another three-hour Uber home with nothing resolved. Between the inaccurate quote, the neurologist who was promised and never showed, the "unrecorded" call, and the complete lack of follow-up, this was one of the most emotionally draining experiences of an already devastating week. I would never recommend this place to anyone who loves their animal. Imani and Mousse

When we arrived, Sarah greeted my scared pup so gently that she willingly went with her to the back--something she almost never does. After the procedure, Carla thoroughly explained the aftercare, healing timeline, and the importance of keeping the cone on. She made sure I felt confident caring for my dog at home. Sarah and Carla were compassionate, professional, and made a stressful emergency much easier. I'm very grateful for the excellent care my dog received and highly recommend Escondido Veterinary Emergency.

I was just getting off a plane when I got the message, so I wasn't present from the beginning but what I loved about this place was that they were extremely communicative. They called a few times and were super helpful when it came to my questions. They kept him overnight and decided they didn't need to give him the second vile of antibiotics / venom. Services was amazing. Thank you. When you enter, there's not much to look at. There's the front desk, chairs and bathrooms. The examination room is also pretty barren. But when I got a chance to go into the back to see my dog, there were a ton of machines and staff despite it being the overnight shift. I immediately felt better after seeing the amount of machines there to take care of all the sick animals. The overnight staff were phenomenal. Plenty of parking too. Even in the busy hours.

We didn't even have to make an appointment, they said to come in anytime 24/7, whenever we were ready. The company they work with that handled his cremation was in contact within an hour so I barely had to do anything. That was very much appreciated. I received everything about a week later and I liked the different options offered. We went with a paw print.

The specialists take the time to thoroughly answer questions and never make you feel rushed. Our appointment lasted nearly two hours because we had so many questions about our dog's medical condition, and the entire team remained attentive and supportive throughout the visit. We did experience a small issue with a prescription that was sent to Costco. Since it was a Friday, it took several phone calls to get everything clarified. What truly impressed us was the level of accountability and customer service. The doctor personally called us on a Saturday to apologize for the prescription error and ensure everything had been resolved. This was our second visit, and based on the compassionate care, professionalism, and dedication of the staff, we will absolutely be returning. I highly recommend this hospital to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care for their pet.
