Our boys, Frankie and Woody had to come in and see the doctor last week. They both ended up having some teeth removed and Frankie had an ear infection and had a large ugly growth removed. We've been coming here since Sandy opened her first location. We even went to her house when she remodeled that clinic! It's so nice to give your business to people that not only care, but they know you. Who does that anymore? We just don't see that "small town America" vibe especially here in California today. Dr. Ullman and Dr. Dvorchak are both wonderful and you'll never regret making them choice to care for your fur babies!!

Every time I leave Encinitas Animal Hospital, I am so very thankful that I have access to the outstanding professional and loving care provided for my special little dog DAISY. Dr Ullman is the "BEST" veterinarian! And her most competent staff, with their loving care for animals is simply unparalleled. 5 days ago

Just a warning... I…read morebrought my healthy French Bulldog to All Pets for a routine visit. The vet on staff confirmed this during his checkup and I scheduled his visit for vaccines the next day, we brought him in and all was well until it wasn't. Within hours of that visit he started having severe cluster seizures, one right after the other. While my dog was actively seizing I called the office asking for help. I was told it would require a new problem visit and that I would need to schedule an appointment and pay "like any other client". I asked if I could speak with a veterinarian and was told by the front staff that vaccines do not cause seizures. I rushed my dog to VEG Emergency in Encinitas. The veterinarians there told me that in some cases receiving multiple vaccines in one visit can precipitate seizures in certain dogs. My dog unfortunately continued to struggle with seizures after that. I hate having to say I was driving past All Pets on my way to VEG while he was having breakthrough seizures and ultimately passed in my passenger seat as I held his paw. I never received any follow up from All Pets. No one reached out to ask what happened, check on him, or offer condolences. I just wanted people to know what happened, so they can make an informed decision.

genuinely cannot say enough good things about Dr. Campbell and the entire team at VEG…read more Our dog, Remi, ended up needing emergency abdominal surgery for an intestinal obstruction, and it was an incredibly stressful and emotional experience. From the moment we arrived until we left, the care we received was exceptional. Dr. Campbell was incredible. I had a lot of questions and concerns, and not once did she make me feel rushed, dismissed, or like I was being difficult. She would sit down with me, explain what she was seeing, what our options were, and why she was recommending what she was recommending. She was patient, thorough, articulate, and confident without ever being condescending. I was having an extremely difficult time with the decision to put Remi through surgery, and she gave me the information I needed without ever pressuring me. I remember telling my wife that if Remi had to have surgery, I was incredibly grateful Dr. Campbell was the one taking care of her. The surgery went extremely well. Dr. Campbell found and removed the obstruction, and thankfully Remi's intestines were healthy. Afterward, she took the time to explain what she found, how Remi did, what to expect during recovery, and even discussed an unrelated finding so we could monitor it in the future. There are people who are technically excellent at what they do, and there are people who are excellent at taking care of the human being on the other side of the exam table. Dr. Campbell is both. Benji was also incredible. His focus was on making sure I was okay during an extremely difficult night. He checked on me constantly, went out of his way to ask if there was anything he could do, and always seemed to show up at the right time with a positive attitude and some reassurance. His kindness was genuine, and those small gestures made a much bigger difference than he probably realizes. Theresa took amazing care of Remi after surgery. She was incredibly patient, kind, and sweet with her. It was obvious that Remi was with someone who genuinely cared about her comfort and recovery. Theresa patiently answered all of our questions, kept us informed, and gave us a lot of peace of mind. Natalie was fantastic as well. She carefully went through the estimates with me and made sure everything was clearly explained. While I was away, she even took photos of Remi and sent them to me so I could see that she was doing okay. At the end, Natalie found a roughly $200 credit that was owed back to us and made sure it was refunded. After such a significant and unexpected veterinary bill, that level of transparency gave me a lot of confidence that Remi's care was truly the priority, not simply maximizing the bill. I also want to recognize everyone whose names I unfortunately didn't get. Especially in the beginning, I was so worried about Remi that remembering names was about the last thing on my mind. The surgical team was amazing. They kept me informed every step of the way, explained what was happening, what was normal, what to expect, and how Remi was doing. After Remi came out of surgery, they did everything they could to reassure me and make me feel better--even while immediately preparing for another surgery. Their compassion during what was obviously an incredibly busy night meant a lot. There was also a nurse who cared for Remi after surgery whose name I unfortunately didn't get. She was incredible. I had a lot of questions, and she patiently answered every one of them. She made sure Remi was constantly checked on and did everything she could to keep her comfortable while she recovered. I wish I had gotten everyone's names because there are more people who deserve to be recognized individually. Every person we encountered, from start to finish, treated Remi and our family with kindness and compassion. This was one of the hardest experiences I've had with Remi, but I never once felt like we were going through it alone. I trusted this team with a member of my family, and I would do so again without hesitation. Thank you to Dr. Campbell and everyone at VEG for taking such incredible care of our girl--and for taking care of us along the way.

(I brought along Skyler's sister Scarlet who is a 2 year old dachshund mix.) They generously offered water and snacks to parents in addition to a blanket for Scarlet after noticing she was cold. In total, the visit took 3 hours, since Sky needed to be sedated. We returned 3 days after to remove his drain, which was done gently and at no extra charge. I never felt rushed which was appreciated and he had a very gentle demeanor about him. Unfortunately, our last visit didn't go well. I brought my dog in because his gums had started bleeding the night prior and there was blood in his stool. Dr. Burghardt diagnosed him with ITP, meaning he had low blood platelets, as was confirmed with blood testing that day. I was sent home with him that Friday afternoon with steroids. After reading more about the disease online, I called back later that day with follow up questions, but Dr. Burghardt had already stepped out for the weekend. We ended up taking our dog to the emergency vet later that evening and I'm so glad we did. Upon arrival, they said his platelet level was so low (essentially zero) that he was at risk for spontaneous bleeding - with potential to occur in his brain or lungs - and needed close monitoring and additional immune support. He ultimately died the next day after not responding quickly enough to the steroids and the identification of a tumor on his spleen (the likely culprit sending his immune system into a spiral). I'm mostly disappointed that we were sent home from Companion Pet Care on a Friday afternoon with little information, knowing that they were closed through the weekend. I don't think the severity of this condition was taken seriously enough or relayed to us in an appropriate manner. The office manager did call on Sunday to check in on him, at which time I shared that he had passed. I called back on Monday to see if they had received the ER records and to ask if Dr. Burghardt could call back at some point to summarize what had happened based on the medical records. At that point we were in shock and still confused since everything had happened so fast. We never got a call back or email which was really unfortunate. I would have thought he'd at least want to connect with us once since our dog was his patient and had died over the weekend. Ultimately, no one is to blame here but I don't feel like the situation was handled appropriately. I'm just so thankful we did our research and listened to our gut and brought him to the ER that evening so that he could be kept on fluids and oxygen support until it was his time to go. Apparently, ITP can develop and worsen VERY quickly. Keeping him at home would have been an awful experience and I'm sure the guilt we would have carried would have been unimaginable. More than anything, this is a warning to other pet owners that if you see those signs, please go to the ER immediately. This is not something you want to treat at home. Even if they seem fine in that moment, they could worsen within a matter or hours as our little guy did.

On my last visit I brought Sage in because her regular flea medication had stopped working and she needed a worm pill and an antibiotic since she got infected. Fast forward to this morning when my Chewy Autoship informed me that "Your veterinary clinic, Santa Fe Animal Clinic - CA, has opted not to support online prescription approvals through Chewy". So on the day before Thanksgiving I now have one additional errand of running to their office, picking up the prescription and mailing it in. To make things worse, they are holding my cat Pepper Jack's flea prescription hostage because he is healthy and has not seen the vet recently. I feel like they are using the prescriptions as leverage to force people to make unnecessary appointments and that they know some people will just pay for the flea medication when they arrive at the clinic out of convenience. I will not support a business that resort to withholding medications for my pets to get more of my money. I declined to schedule an appointment and am picking a new vet that cares for my fur babies. I asked her how many customers they have lost due to this policy she replied "I am not taking a tally".

During our visit with Dr. Hackett, I felt like I was unnecessarily alarmed and pushed toward additional testing that turned out to be completely unnecessary. I brought in my two dogs, including my Border Collie, whose heart rate Dr. Hackett immediately treated as a serious concern. She made it sound like something could be very wrong and suggested multiple tests to rule out an emergency situation. My border collie also gets seizures which I told Dr. Hackett about and she told me she thought they are fainting spells due to his low heart rate, not seizures. Which I also got confirmations he definitely has seizures and nothing else like she suggested. After leaving very worried, I sought second opinions from other veterinarians. They all reassured me that my Border Collie's heart rate was completely normal for the breed and that they have seen even lower heart rates in athletic dogs like him despite his seizures. What was presented to me as potentially alarming was actually very typical. The same thing happened with my senior dog. Dr. Hackett told me her kidney and liver values were elevated and strongly pushed further testing, making it sound urgent. When I had another vet review the labs, they explained the values were only slightly elevated and extremely common in older dogs. They even told me she is far more likely to pass from old age before those numbers would ever reach liver failure levels. They also mentioned the slight elevation could simply be due to her high-protein diet. The experience left me feeling like fear was used to push unnecessary testing rather than providing balanced, knowledgeable guidance. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and extra expense. Because of this, I would personally recommend seeking care elsewhere and getting a second opinion if you are ever told something is urgently wrong here.
