We wanted a yacht charter for scattering ashes in the San Francisco Bay, specifically departing from the Berkeley Marina. It was very easy to communicate with the owner, Eliot of Compass Rose Yacht Charter. He was willing to adjust the time of departure to our needs and it turned out perfect! Instructions were clear on where to park and our meeting place. We were greeted at the gate by a crew member and directed to the Voyager. The yacht is comfortable and clean and the cabin is spacious enough for our group of about twenty people. Captain Richard was very professional and the crew was friendly and helpful. There is a bar with coffee, tea, water and soft drinks. When we arrived at the designated scattering spot, the crew passed out flower petals to mark the site. Cheryl directed us where and how to scatter the ashes. We also brought a flower reef (created with paper tape), that was also tossed at the spot. The boat slowly circled the site several times, allowing us time for our final thoughts. Total time of our journey was about 1.5 hours, enough time for any speakers or formalities. We chartered the Voyager for a burial at sea. From my very first phone call with Captain Elliott, my experience was outstanding. He was very responsive and helpful, even with a date change on my part. On the day of the event, the crew was so hospitable and made our family feel very well taken care of. I planned a cruise for our Corporate Holiday Party and it was a blast! Everything went seamlessly thanks to Elliot handling logistics and working with me to fit our needs + Captain Ken who was a hoot! We had such a great time, the "light appetizers" were much more than I expected and filled us all + there was a full bar. I would definitely recommend a charter for your next group event. My only slight negative would be that the bar is a bit slow and caused a line up inside which got in the way of the appetizers and getting from one side to the other so maybe another bartender would be useful if you have a crowd that wants to have a few drinks. The experience started off great, I was able to view the yacht 24 hours after talking to Elliott, discussed details and a deposit was made, with less than 3 weeks before the birthday party was to the place on the yacht he sends a contract where he increased the price nearly $809!! We had SUCH a great time! We had a party of 40 people, and it could not have gone any better. The bartenders (Wanda and Lisa) were fantastic, and so fun to be with! Captain Ken was fantastic as well. Eliot was as accommodating as we could have ever hoped for - keeping us updated on the weather leading up to our event day, and even let us change our booking date last minute when we had an earlier day open up in our schedule. I booked a company event for one of our sales team of 20 people to experience life on the SF bay using Compass Rose Charters. Majority of our sales team are not from San Francisco, so I figured this is the way to go. Oh boy was I right! Everyone had a wonderful time and complimented the yacht and the crew. Wow! Where do I begin? From start to finish, Compass Rose Yacht Charter owner, Eliot, was very gracious to me. He initially was very generous with his time as I peppered him with numerous questions over the phone. Then, he continued to be extremely accommodating when I asked not once, not twice but 3 SEPARATE TIMES to visit the yacht at the Berkeley Marina. He never tired of my questions nor of my ample requests and it is largely for this reason that our special cruise to scatter the ashes of my 102 year old Great Aunt was so special. My entire family of 40 members who were present that day all left feeling that something memorable and very, very special had just occurred. Although Mother Nature must be credited with providing us with an incredibly calm and sunny day, the person most responsible for our happiness at sea was none other than Captain Ken. There are not enough characters that Yelp allows me to use to describe what an absolute joy it was to have Captain Ken guide us that day. He is kind, considerate, well mannered and packed with knowledge of all things nautical. An expert skipper, he commandeered that 80 ton, 75 foot long yacht like the Kenyan's so effortlessly sprint to the finish line at Bay to Breakers! In essence, he is all that you would hope for in a Captain and he made us all feel safe and totally thrilled all at once. So, to Eliot and Captain Ken and the assorted members of the crew who were also a tremendous help, I say Thank you! We chartered the Compass Rose for our company's holiday cruise. The owner, Eliot, was easy and pleasant to book with over the phone and answered my follow-up questions on email very promptly. Our charter was on an evening in January when the forecast called for rain, so we really weren't sure how it was going to turn out, but Eliot watched the forecast closely and advised that the conditions would be favorable. He was absolutely right and we had a very fun night taking in the lights and sites of San Francisco, Alcatraz, and the Bay and Golden Gate bridges. The food (we selected a mixed hors d'oeuvres menu) was quite good and the crew was very solicitous. The boat itself is very comfortable and well-maintained and appropriate for even more formal occasions than ours. We had around 20 in our party so we had lots of room to spread out in the main cabin, deck and flybridge. The entire experience exceeded my expectations. read more
