While their clinical visit care for my cat, who had developed presumptive diabetes, was good (although I have no idea what sugar concerns there might have been about the treats they gave him in the clinic and for take-home), he was seen Friday with no particular diagnosis of concern, and was dead on Monday. Tfhere was a hard sell for a $400-500 blood panel to get a "comprehensive baseline", but I demurred to the $150 panel to get the imperative of the blood sugar level. They could have just done a simple blood sugar check with an ear or skin-prick diagnostic instrument, which they must surely have had, and we could have gotten him on insulin immediately. I received their notification of the bloodwork results the following Tuesday, the day after he died, informing me that he had elevated blood sugar and should be treated. This could have been quickly, more economically, and more therapeutically been handled in the intitial visit, and the cat might still be alive, albeit with the required sugar monitoring and insulin therapy (I'd been through that with a cat before - it's a tough decision to make). In any case, beware of a practice that tries to upsell you on lab testing. Unless there is a specific diagnostic goal to achieve, based on the physical exam, it's not likely a good financial decision to pour money into the practice (they make money on the testing) to give them a baseline to have marginal further diagnoses in office visits. Pets (unless you have parrots or tortoises) tend to have regrettably short lives, and an emotional last ditch effort in veterinary care may not be the best for them or you, but possibly could be (think orthopedic care for dogs to allow them to live with hip or leg joint problems - expensive, but possibly a better life quality investment than baseline lab tests with no immediate benefit). read more

My family had been with CCV for years for our 6 dogs, but no more! With that being said, Dr.Farrington, Please check your staff! They are always so very rude, argumentative, and seem to talk down to your customers, in person and on the phone. We have heard it first hand while sitting in your waiting room. We had to take our dog to an emergency room because when we called Compassionate Care to see if Dr. F was able to see our sick dog, we were told they had no appointments available. We felt it was urgent, and good thing we did, so like any decent and responsible owner, we brought her to an ER where she was admitted for respiratory failure. When the records were emailed to the emergency room Vet, she came in the room and read aloud the notes that were sent from your office claiming that we were "lying" about calling CCV for an emergency visit. Are you kidding me? This is what your staff does? Calls your customers liars? Even the er very was taken back by the professionalism of your staff, she mentioned that If it had been her, she would consider going elsewhere. First and foremost, We are the people who pay for you to take care of our precious animals, if you can't help us, then we are forced to go to emergency room. Then your office charges people in advance for upcoming appointments? When you ask why, the attitude comes out. (Your office claims because people are not showing up for appointments), Well, you obviously know who did not show up, so why not just charge that person who did not show? Not the person who is always on time. Yet when we do show up for the appointed time, We are forced to sit and wait in the waiting room, and then be brought into the examination room, only to wait more. Then, when you do come in, you completely rush us and when we ask you questions, you then tell us " This is not a good time, and your questions will have to wait till the next visit", Seriously? Sad and broken hearted, my precious pup passed away that night, but not that you would even know, because we never received any type of follow up phone call from your office since then. So, with that being said, This is what you have to deal with here, at a place that considers themselves "Compassionate care"Personally, I think they should really change their name. I brought my ferret there a while back and I would never go there again nor would I recommend. Here is why. 1. The people at the front desk are incredibly rude and lack empathy. My original apt was to euthanize my pet, but was on the fence. When I told her I thought I might change my eyes. She gave me an attitude and I could hear the eye roll. 2. They made it sound like it was critical for her to have lab work done when I changed my mind. Which I was fine with. They told me the results would be in within 24 hours. A week later I was still calling for the "critical results". When the vet finally called me back she was nice and professional. She actually was the whole time as was the vet tech. 3. I had to put a deposit down before I made another appointment. I have never seen this in my life. 4. When I went back the second time they had to sedate her to get blood work. They then could not wake her up because they gave her too much of the medication and then charged me to reverse it. 5. I ended up taking my ferret to another vet in CT and they were FAR more compassionate, far more professional, cheaper, and did not require a deposit. And the very first thing they said to me on the phone was "I'm sorry you're going through that" take a lesson" compassionate" care. I would give them a zero rating but the vet tech was super nice and the vet was as well. They should both work somewhere else, better read more

I have personally worked with Dr Linda Farrington in the early 2000's at Northern RI AH. I was her surgery technician . I just moved back home after living 6 years in Atlanta. I live in Somerset and work for Baystate Veterinary . My dog Khloe needed a dental. There was no-one else I trusted than Dr Farrington . I drove 45 mins each way to bring her there. I would have drove hours . My dog is 12 and my service dog and I was concerned but knowing Dr Farrington was doing the surgery I was not worried . Dr Farrington cares about her patients and does everything she can. I have known her to stay after hours and call clients on her day off. Also her prices are more than reasonable. I will never go anyway else. I have worked with many doctors in my 28 year Vet Career. Dr Farrington is the best !!!!! read more

Within 5mins a verdict on how to address the issue found was provided. ( that one appointment from this vet assessing everything was $100 for 45mins of the dr time along with 2 vaccines) 9) No one has ever been bitten by my pet but Dr. F insisted he be muzzled because he's a "biter" and had it written all over his files shaming every experience ( the other vet had no issue with the dog, nor need to muzzle) 10) The office is still mandating masks even in a segregated exam room. I decided to switch to a more closer vet also my English bulldog has been suffering from dry eye so I decided to come here to CCVC. Can't say anything bad about the Vets or technicians or even staff. Heres where everything goes down hill. The vet put my dog on a eye med 2x a day for Life the Vet insisted. Okay that's fine BTW cost $50+ every 3-4 weeks. So to save on cost and convenience I get all my pet rx meds online. It's been about a year with no problem until I recieve an email from the pet pharmacy stating it was denied because you need to take your dog to the vet! So if my dog "Dozer" doesnt have the medicine for even 1 day his eyes start to get badly infected. And yes I should've planned better accordingly and not waiting until last minute to order his rxbut it wouldn't have been a problem if it was for them. So what your telling me is your denying my dog his importance medicine because he needs a check up? They also said hes behind on his rabies vaccine and its state law. Um no I brought him to petco and he got it but still that still gives them no right wether or not he did or didn't get it yet!! How if I'm financially unable at the time so because you can't drain me for more money my dog suffers? At least fill his RX then call me and say this has to be the last RX until you can bring him in, instead causing him to lapse the medication. So now Dozer's eyes are badly infected and they want me to make an emergency visit 'extra $' I'm sorry but I wont be paying a dime since it's their malpractice their fault for being so despicable! I'm definitely changing vets but I want them to look him in the eyes and I want to confront them this in person about how ridiculous and absurd they are. Now that I think of it, theres another experience I didnt like. The first vet who diagnosed my dogs eyes was very knowledgeable and I liked her. So when it came time to make another appointment For some reason I couldn't request her. At first I tried to fit it into my schedule but I was so eager to keep.the same vet that I was willing to take any appointment with Dr Abraham but for whatever reason it wasnt possible.Receptionist making all kinds of excuses. This is absolutely the worst veterinary operation I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. The are completely unorganized, one technician does not talk to the next, the Dr. is on the verge of incompetent, and they are a danger to your pets. They have screwed up a regularly scheduled prescription for our dog on multiple occasions. The Dr. gave our 15 year old dog 3 vaccines in one visit nearly killing him (all competent vets know not to do this) then they charged us for the treatment to save his life after this malpractice. As he nears his passing they refuse to let us in to be with him and blame a lack of technician vaccinations on this disrespectful policy. Masks can be worn, people can go to events, restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, bars, etc. but this operation can't find it within themselves to allow owners the last few moments with their beloved pet. Let me start of this way....Dr.Brown is amazing! However, my dog was supposed to have surgery. Booked the appointment 3 weeks ago, blood work done last week. It took me almost 2 months to take time out of work. I expressed this to the team at CCVC. I work in healthcare, I know the challenges during COVID. Two days ago, vml was left on my phone to confirm my dog's appointment, it went as far as..." call if you need anything or have questions" I call today, to confirm my arrival for TOMORROW'S surgery. Appointment was cancelled and they claim, they called me to inform me of changes. Luckily I saved the conformation vml, they did not believe me. I had to email the vml. The office manager said to me, " last week they knew, they would be short staffed" Then, why in the world, you didn't say that when I dropped the dog off for blood work? She tried to schedule me for the end of next week!!! Wanting to know, who contacted me and that she would talk to the person who called me. Do I truly care? What disciplinary actions you are about to take? No, that's your job to figure it out! Perhaps, saying things to me, that truly make no sense. The right approach would have been...let me help you, I'll call some places that we work with and get you an appointment since, it was our mistake and we want to make it right! Going above and beyond to correct the mistake and acknowledging it. But, she was more concerned about who conformed my appointment. I simply asked for my records. Two of my dogs see a vet there, she only emailed one record. It is so easy to blame everything on COVID! As a professional, health care worker.... I would not have been able to even say that. We will never go anywhere else again. The vets here are unlike any other. I have had so many terrible experiences with vets, most rely on customers ignorance to make a quick buck, not here! vets are no frills, to the point and very much in love with the dogs and cats they work with. It's so critical to a pet lover to have a vet who truly loves their jobs and isn't motivated by money only. The best part is, they give discounts to familes with rescue animals! We really didn't want to go down this road , but we felt like this is by far one of our worst experiences ever with any business , and by far the worst ever with a veterinarian . With that being said we also feel that anyone looking for a reputable vet should read what we have to say ..... quite alarming to say the least . We recently started fostering dogs. We currently have 3 dogs of our own and our very first foster came to us with kennel cough and conjunctivitis which we did not know . Shortly after, each of our dogs got sick . Our 7 year old boxer developed a very bad cough and needed to be seen right away . She was very sick , bloody right eye with heavy drainage , a loud barking type cough and extremely low on energy . We rushed her in on March 7th, where she was seen by Dr Laura Roman who was our vet to begin with . My wife explained in detail what was going on and was sure to bring up her eye problem as well as her exposure to kennel cough. She showed every symptom of kennel cough and it was quite clear to everyone that she needed treatment for that . She then HIGHLY recommended a very expensive PCR test for various types of respiratory diseases . She told us that this test was a must because her treatment would change if her condition was worse then she thought she was . At this point we felt that we had to go with her suggestion. She then looked right past the eye problem and got the PCR test done immediately . She was so focused on the test that she never made mention or concern about her eyes, nor did she ever even check them . Being that this was a Saturday she said she would call us personally and give us her results and with that being said her treatment may change as well as her medications . The results would be in by Wednesday. The following day her condition worsened so badly that we were forced to get her into Bay State emergency services because they couldn't see her at compassionate care . Bay state said that she clearly had kennel cough and that the test was never warranted as her signs were quite clear and that the meds they gave her were not strong enough for the condition she actually had which was definitely kennel cough and conjunctivitis that had now spread to both eyes because they never treated her right eye nor looked at it . The end result was NO phone call from Dr Roman as promised , 3 messages left for her , and a $400 bill that consisted of a misdiagnosis , a bottle of pills that were of no use nor strong enough for her condition , and a $275 panel test that was never needed and didn't matter ! read more

Every time I call, I immediately get put on hold, and then a different person picks up and mentions someone else's pet's name! Compassionate care is the best veterinarian clinic I have experienced. I have had Dr Farington and Dr Abraham. Both have been kind, caring for my pup(old man). He had several issues over the years, but both doctors took care of him very well. They explained each recommendation, did not push tests on us, listened to my concerns and helped decide on treatment. They made me feel as though I knew my pup best and took my concerns to heart. The techs and office staff were kind and helpful. Amy(Aimee, sorry forget spelling) as part of the staff in the office knew My boy by name, always greeted him and myself like family. TERRIBLE! Vet techs do not pass messages to the vet. Our cat left in trauma. We had gone to them for years. They are terrible during the pandemic. No compassion at all. We had to switch vets. Still a very sad diagnosis but we were treated with respect. They hang up when I call because we complained to the owner. They saved his life when he was a kitten. I call and made appointment to get my dogs nail clipped and they charged 62 dollars and did a bad job and they could careless. They said if I wanted grinded it cost more. I will never bring my dogs there again for anything. When I called they did not tell me what that would charge me for and office visit just to have the nails clipped. read more

My almost 13 year old dog has been a patient at Compassionate Care Veterinary Clinic for the past 7 years. He recently needed a refill on his heart worm preventative and this terrible clinic REFUSED to fill his prescription. They claimed that my dog has not been seen in over a year and that he has not been on heart guard medication in the same amount of time. Even after providing a receipt of his most recent visit to Compassionate Care (6 months ago), the receipt that showed they charged us for his negative heart guard test this year, as well as proof in which they authorized his 6 month prescription 6 months ago- they are still denying my dog his much needed heart guard medicine. Our dogs are family to us and we are absolutely disgusted by the way this clinic has treated our pets and our family. If you consider "compassion" as denying a senior dog heart guard preventatives even after PROVING that they have tested negative and have been consistently on it for years, then this is your spot. If not, look elsewhere. The sad thing is that this clinic used to be great several years ago and was one I had recommended to many. There are other vets in the area- don't trust yours with one that thinks about lining their pockets more than they do about the care of your loved animals. read more

Worst vet I have ever interacted with (dr a). Condescending, tried to give me antibacterial med for a viral infection. Then tried to give me antibacterial antibiotic for an uninfected skin cyst. Basically just tried to throw antibiotics at every problem, no matter that they aren't diseases associated with bacteria. Complete lack of clinical judgment. Couldn't even inject a vaccine, half of it sprayed to ground. She left it there as a puddle. it's a vets office any animal could just lick it up. Very unsafe. Also after biopsy left my dog to bleed on the couch that my dog sat on during the biopsy. A soft couch for humans and pets. Totally disgusting for next person to sit on. This vet Asked me why I didn't just biopsy my dog myself. What kind of person asks that question. I'm not a veterinarian. Also I have more complaints (didn't even introduce herself or ask me who I was). read more

I love bringing my pup here (well I don't like the reasons but if I had to bring him anywhere it would be here!). They are super friendly and compassionate and loving for the animals AND the owners. While my pup was in their hospital care they called to see how I was holding up through the whole thing. They're very willing to answer any and all questions and take your worried parent phone calls when your animal child is in their care. Called to make an appointment for my baby hedge hog and got an appointment for the same day. And hour and a half before the appointment after getting my baby ready for the appointment and into her travel cage and comfortable I received a phone call to cancel the appointment because the "doctor did not feel comfortable" well in my opinion this should of been checked with the doctor before letting me waste all day waiting for an appointment when I could have found another vet to take care of her already. Do not take your furry family members to compassionate care in Cumberland RI. Despite their name they care more about money than they do their patients and they will misdiagnose your animals so you can come back for a "follow up" when their "treatment" doesn't work so they can get another 100 dollars out of you plus whatever other meds they give you. The physical exams are more than stressful for my little animals and it breaks my heart to see my animals condition to continue to worsen even though the vet scoffs and tells me they'll be "fine" but definitely come back for the follow up...don't put your animals through this suffering.
