Am a lil surprised I haven't reviewed this place. Been going since 2009 and it keeps getting better every year I go. First year was some weird, creepy doc who isn't with CHC any longer. Neither is the lady from my 2nd year, and thank goodness..didn't like her either. I kept coming back because this place is centrally located and the renewal rate is $80, which is comparable with (if not better than) other places. 2010-2012 I went to Dr. Hilman. While she is nice enough, she is super weight focused. Like the first year I went, I remember her being kind of preachy about it, but whatever, that's her deal. Then last year when I went in and had lost weight, she actually remembered me and gave me some props for the fat shed. I was just so shocked she remembered. Then recently, I had a friend come in and go to her and she too got the preachy lecture about weight. Listen up Dr. Hilman, we're there for weed, this ain't Jenny Craig. Women know when we're fat and when we need to take a few pounds off, no need to browbeat us. This year I got Dr. Solomon. Let me tell you, he is the best! I was in and out of there within 20 minutes, which has NEVER happened in all the years I've been going. Every single doctor before me has waited a good 15 minutes (or longer) to call me back after the illustrious Seven (Receptionist) gives them the required paperwork to begin the procedures. Can I also say that every year I go, I like Seven even more too. She's definitely one-of-a-kind and I dig her style. While I hope she always strives for greatness in her life and career, I selfishly hope she works here always and forever..I really like her a lot. There used to be some edgy lesbian chicks who worked here that always played techno.. totally random tidbit for ya there. So, there you have it. This is still the best place in town to go for your medical 420 recommendation and Dr. Solomon is no-nonsense. He's not there to candy coat shit or make you feel like you're his best friend... he's there to get you in and out and on your way to enjoying the rest of your day...which is what I shall do now. Doctors at this location are regularly clueless and careless in their approach to patients and it's because of "physicians" like this that doctors who recommend cannibis sometimes get the reputation of being 'quacks' -- which ends up tarnishing the community of medical marijuana patients, as well. Last year, I took a half-day from work to attend my appointment (which I scheduled a month in advance). I sat around for an hour waiting -- after which I was told, "Dr. Solomon forgot he had appointments scheduled here today. He's not coming." Cute. When I *did* finally get an appointment, he claimed he didn't have any of my medical records. I double checked with my primary care physician -- she had fax confirmation of having sent them. This year, a doctor (a "Dr. Phil"?) canceled my appointment on the DAY OF (despite confirming the day before), simply because he realized he had a big gap in his schedule and didn't want to be in the office so long. Wah. There are better places around where you can be treated by someone who actually behaves like an actual professional. read more

I normally look for 4+ stars when picking a place off of Yelp, so I was hesitant to go with Compassionate Health Options. However, I'd heard a couple other people recommend it, and it was the cheapest option ($80 for a renewal vs. $95+ elsewhere) so I decided to give it a go. Boy am I glad that I did. The office was nice, nicer than some regular doctor's offices I've been to. I went on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was empty save for the (very friendly) receptionist. I filled out some forms, and saw the doctor almost immediately. So that's all well and good, but what really blew me away was the consultation itself. Unlike the place I got my first recommendation, which seemed to be staffed with doctors who couldn't really care less about you, and were simply going through their required checlikst, Dr. Weiss clearly cares about his patients. Not to mention, he apparently ran an ER for 15 years before coming here, so he's got the medical chops to back it up. This place really puts the "medical" in medical marijuana. After the visit, the receptionist printed out my card, and I was on my way. This place was fast, friendly, and professional; and unless some other office is having some ridiculous sale, there's no reason to go anywhere else. read more

Yes, it is true, I have joined the ranks of those with a med card. I was greeted warmly by both the receptionist and the doctor. The doctor completed a brief, mostly verbal examination. I had medical documentation that fit one of the criteria to receive a card. The whole process was very simple and timely. read more

Took a loved one for a visit and was impressed by the professionalism by the staff and Dr. S. The doctor looked like he just stepped out of a John Wayne movie. Dr. S. could be a real cowboy. Aside from that, he was very kind and willing to explain every question in detail. While I'm not 4/20, I did learn a great deal of how herbs can support the care of a variety of ailments. I've always liked coming here and have for years. However, as I write this review I am sitting in their office and I have been waiting for over an hour. My appointment was at 1130 and it is now 1245. This is ridiculous and I don't know if it's just a bad day for them but I will no longer be returning here for my renewals. Completely unprofessional... what "doctors office" has you wait an hour and a half to be seen and you were on time to your appointment? Good bye compassionate health... I liked you for a while there. Easy on line appointments, a lovely and helpful receptionist, and a doctor that reminded me of Henry Hill's father in the TV show King of the Hill. They get the job done and it was easier than I anticipated although I didn't appreciate having to wait nearly an hour to be seen. read more

This is my second visit to Compassionate Health and both times were great experiences! I felt compelled to write this time because of how my recent visit to another doctor juxtaposed with this one. At Compassionate Health Options I was treated as if my time was important! They were exceptionally efficient and respectful at check-in. Dr. Robinson saw me right away and took the time to explain what would be the most helpful for insomnia and chronic pain. I was confused about the cannabis properties, so he patiently explained it all! Everything I experienced at this office was directly opposite to the experience I had at another medical practice I went to for the same conditions. I received 4 phone calls confirming my appointment. When I came in yesterday, I handed them my ID and the woman checked me in. The I learned that Dr. Shaun wasn't in. I rescheduled my appointment for today. So when I come in, I'm told that my non California ID wasn't enough. She informed me that it was the law to see proof of residence, even though I've been here before (very recently too.) She also said that whenever they call to confirm appointments, they always tell their patients what is required. Weird that all 4 people who called me never mentioned anything. These people need to get their crap together. I want a refund. This place sucks. read more

Gosh,.. so sorry the last reviewer had such a horrible experience. Mine was quite the opposite, however. I've been coming to Compassionate Health Options for the last three years and my last visit - just a few days ago - was my best ever. I saw a new doctor, Dr Malka, who was lovely - professional and truly helpful. And the whole process has evolved so nicely. I was called to remind me it was time to set up an appointment (a first) and now they even make the Medical Mojo cards. Sooooooo convenient. Lilly, I presume the office manager, was totally delightful. I was in and out in less than an hour with a new card in hand. I couldn't be happier read more

They give good, prompt service, especially if you actually have something wrong with you. Yes, I said it. I know that there are people who will abuse the medical marijuana system here in California, and I'm guessing that there is likely a majority of punks, gangstas and hipsters with "anxiety" and/or "migraines" who go and pay someone $150 to get a cannabis card. Yes, I see you all out there--and that isn't cool. But I have a very long and documented list of medical problems, so that's probably why I was treated with respect and promptness here at Compassionate Health. I needed a renewal because my regular primary physician 1) as a "free clinic worker" seems to never have time for me/is overworked and 2) once she does get to see me, she likes to drag her butt until I'm left begging for her to put in the paperwork she said she would months earlier. So, after many tears of frustration and my last ignored email, I called these guys on Monday morning. I got my appointment for the same day at 1. By 2:15 PM, I'd already gotten my card from them, which is good at my preferred dispensary, and was already medicating (at that point I was almost insane with insomnia). You really can't complain about that. My card is good for a year and the only complaint I might have about it is that the photo ID could be a little more professional (the photo of me has a background of the wall and a plant near the wall I think, LOL). But that's trivial considering all of the trouble I was going through with my primary care physician to get a *simple* renewal (I've had a medical cannabis card since at least 2006). Now, I came here out of desparation, even though I'd read the negative reviews of it here on Yelp. I'm on a limited income and the $90 is a bit steep for a renewal, considering that if my primary physician wasn't such a drag-@ss, I would've only had to pay $35 at the Patient ID Center to process my renewal for that card. But these guys do the same thing, so I'd rather have the card and be able to sleep than suffer for another month waiting to see my doctor and then another who knows how many months until she finally got my papers faxed to PIDC. I suffer far too much as it is (I also take daily morphine and other pain meds) to be troubled with even more suffering while waiting. Compassionate Health Options was truly compassionate that day and Dr. Hillman rocks. Again, if you have a legitimate need for medical cannabis and have the medical documentation to back your stuff up, then you should have no problem with the doctors at CHO. But if you don't, then you best be prepared to pay more money and make your case, because these doctors do need to know that you have a real need and just aren't some idiot looking to "get legit" so you can get stoned because you're an "anxious" person (come the Hell on now, people...don't insult our intelligence here). read more

I have been a patient for about 3 years now, and I have had recommendations from 2 other doctors. I have never had an experience as good as this doctor. The doctor took the time to ask me questions about my various conditions and how they might be best helped. The other doctors I have been to have been somewhat shady, and I left feeling like the rec I got was also somewhat shady. When i went to this doc, that was not the case at all. I got my rec after multiple questions regarding my health, and talked over several options for how best my ailings could be fixed. He wanted to also have copies of my earlier medical records to lend more legitimacy to my rec due to previous conditions, which I provided. With my conditions and physical evidence of said conditions, he gave me my rec on the spot and did not require a follow-up visit. It was VERY reasonably priced for their service, and the staff was very professional, caring, and best of all, responsible! I can't say enough to let others know these guys are the real deal! In the future I will be getting all my rec's through Compassionate Health Options. And I will also be giving my personal recommendations to friends, family, and associates to get their recommendations there! Thanks guys! Dr Stephen Robinson spent a lot of time going over my physical exam and helping me with questions about methods of ingestion for fibromyalgia and other medical conditions. Their receptionist was extremely helpful and friendly, the intake was well organized and easy and Dr Robinson made me feel like I was his only patient that day. I cannot stress enough how helpful Jazmin was in helping me. She went above and beyond to accommodate me and make sure I received the care I needed. The process was quick and all done in one office visit. I left with all the documentation I needed to start using cannabis for my medical conditions. The doctor answered all my questions and provided me with a treatment plan based on my diagnoses and the recommendations of my physicians. I left with all the information I needed. I felt like I was a priority. Jazmin made sure I understood absolutely everything. I went here last year and they were very good, and the doctor (Hillman) helpful. PLUS, I got good price, for being a first-timer there. They did everything, PLUS a card, for about $49.00. This year, they wanted $95.00 for my renewal + card. I pointed out that I had referred someone to them, so they gave me $20. 00 off, but no senior discount or discounted renewal price. Most places charge on $39.00 for that. Like an idiot, I paid. Later I banged my head against the wall for not just walking out. I'm on Social Security and paying twice as much really hurt. THE TRICK, IS TO BRING A COMPARATIVE PRICE AD FROM E. BAY EXPRESS, THAT OFFER RENEWALS FOR $39.00, AND THEY WILL MATCH IT. Jazmin the office guru was warm, knowledgeable and very helpful. I've been a member for years; this was my first time at the Oakland location. They have gotten better at facilitating the process in a professional manner in the time that I've been going. They now will take care of your ID as well which makes live easier. They've got great software which helps to keep track of your history. I give them 4 out of 5 because the office is so tiny. However, it is in a relatively safe area with meter parking available out front. read more

It's easy to make appointments online and they always call and remind you when your card is about to expire. The process is very simple and straightforward if you have all your medical records ready and print and fill out the form ahead of time which you can print from their website. Almost worth 5 stars. Only negative is the location, which doesn't have much in the way of parking. Street parking is limited to one hour, which can be a problem. I arrived on time for my appointment, but had to wait for another patient ahead of me. After that, everything was very pleasant and professional. I had the required medical information. The doctor suggested several things I could to relieve pain, showed me a vaporizer that I subsequently ordered, and signed my letter. An extra $20 gets you a card, which seems like a good option. read more

I came by some time ago to get my rec. What i remember most was the service. The receptionist was so helpful and knowledgeable and went above and beyond to address my concerns (types of cannabis,how to consume) I think her name was Jasmine. It seemed super busy but everything seemed to flow in a timely consistent manner and the young lady never changed her loving demeanor despite being obviously swamped. She handles it all by herself! I know I'd be overwhelmed. My doctor was also very knowledgeable and gave me great advice on my condition that doesn't involve cannabis. I felt that was good to see someone concerned over overall health. Overall I was most impressed by my receptionist who dealt with my inherit neediness professionally and gave me great recommendations for nearby dispensaries and such. Although I was really interested in getting the card he took the time to advise me on an ongoing knee pain condition for which I really needed to treat with topicals instead of my pain pills. Don't book an appointment online for the Oakland Webster address! I showed up for my appointment there today and found the buzz-in box to get inside the building not working. I called the main office number to let them know I was waiting outside for an appointment with Dr. Nima and was told, 'Oh, no there's no one even in that office now. There was a fire in the building a few weeks ago. Dr. Nima's in San Francisco today.' WHAT? I received an email AND phone CONFIRMATION the day before -- and both confirmations gave me a Webster St. address. The phone receptionist was grudgingly apologetic but only because I kept her on the phone complaining, letting her know that others are probably in this situation. AND no help from her in rescheduling or anything. A bad business practice from folks who clearly have their automated systems working to bring in loads of people and charge them money -- little else. This was my first experience getting an evaluation and it was really great. Both the receptionist and the doctor were very professional, the place is friendly and clean. You can feel good about going here. I got up do date, clear information for my health issues, and I can't think of a way this could be better! I had walked into another evaluation center, it was so seedy I walked straight out again and was dreading this visit, No need! wow this was a great experience i wish my primary doctor's office treated me this well!!! from the moment I came in I was greeted and asked questions, and told what to do, I was reassured that I would been seen soon, I was there for less then an hour between filling out paper work, going thru the paper work, being explained what to expect from the doctor, then my visit with the doctor, that went very well also, we discussed my history and what would help me with my pain.... the receptionist is very informative, after you see the doctor you go back to the receptionist who I feel is like a doctors asst..I saw Dr. Hillman... all I can say is that my primary doctors need to be as attentive as these people are. read more
