The movers were great, but the customer service was a mess. When I made my appointment, they gave me the impression my movers would come at 9, not within a window of time starting at 9. When they didn't arrive at 9, I started calling. No one answered either extension at one number. At another number, someone answered and said she'd call back with information, but never did. At 10, they started answering the first number and someone there did get me the information, and said he'd have the manager call me, but he didn't. The movers thought my appointment was between 9 and 11 and the customer service guy thought it was between 9 and 10:30. The movers arrived at 11:30 because they got lost. They also had no idea that they couldn't get their truck under the town's bridges and that driving to a place a mile away would therefore take half an hour. They also had not been informed of the deal the customer service people had given me, so they would have charged me too much had I not noticed. Fortunately, I noticed and their supervisor okayed the changes. Even without transportation, the move took an hour longer than they estimated even though I think I had less stuff to move than they expected. It was all furniture, and furniture takes forever because they have to wrap it in blankets to protect it. Just FYI. The movers did not charge me for the unexpectedly long transportation time, and they were cheerful and sympathetic. But I called the company and asked to speak to a manager again - explaining that I was moving again in a month and would not use them again if I didn't get to speak with someone - and they said he'd call me back, and he didn't. I cannot comment on the movers themselves because we never got to that! We did however, have terrible customer service. Complete waste of time and energy. We had to reschedule the move from a Wednesday to a Friday because of an unexpected hospitalization. I called and set it all up on behalf of my mother, spoke with Keith. He assured me we were all set for Friday, he did not need my contact information, we were confirmed and the first appointment of the day. Friday appointment time came and went, we called at quarter past 10 and were told they rescheduled the move to Sunday because they were unable to contact my mother. Her phone was already disconnected/reconnected at new residence, she'd been hospitalized and I spoke with him and received confirmation of Friday's 10am appt. He said they still needed to confirm 24 hours prior (which was not explained when we spoke earlier in the week). They could not help us as the moving team was already on the next job. I found the customer service extremely unhelpful, we were told there would be no refund of the deposit and there was no manager to speak with regarding the entire debacle. Keith informed me the soonest they could do the move would be Sunday, but that was not acceptable to us as she had to be moved out Saturday. Keith's response was "that's the best we can do". If given the option, I prefer to give my business to small, family owned companies, but in this case, I am frustrated and disappointed. Regretfully, would not recommend this company. read more

I have never had such a horrible experience as I did with this company. First off, they were very difficult to get a hold of, but I persevered as I had used them before and was very pleased. My bf and I we moving in together and so we hired them to come to both of our separate apts. and move us to one. We gave them a full itemized list and warned them that there were a lot of stairs involved, they quoted us at 3.5-4.5 hours for the move. Moving day arrived, they were 4 hours late with one experienced mover, and one whose FIRST day on the job. They spent 3.5 hours just on the first apt which consisted of 7 boxes and 3 pieces of furniture. The rest of the day only got worse. The guys frequently made trips with one hand full (I.e. a small lamp, or a half full laundry basket) and spent upwards of 30min in the truck at the tome. We called the company 6 times to explain the issue and see if they could send someone else,but no one returned our calls. The move ended up taking 9 HOURS! Double what we were estimated, AND both me and my bf helped the entire time, sometimes taking 2 trips for everyone one of theirs. Yes it was hot, yes there were a lot of stairs, but they were supposed to be the professionals. Later, when we finally got in touch with someone to see if they could help us, they refused to compensate us for the issue (in any way) and continued to leave threatening messages on our phones for weeks. I cannot explain enough how unprofessional certain members of this company were. They ruined what was supposed to be one of the happiest days of our lives and we ended up paying more than double what we were quoted. Whatever you do, don't make the same mistake we did. read more

I was originally very satisfied with the service provided. They worked very quickly and efficiently and made sure to consult with me on where to put my items within the apartment. They made sure somebody was down near the truck at all times to make sure things weren't stolen. At this point they would have been an EASY FIVE STARS, as I was absolutely satisfied. The problem occurred in the post-service customer service. They had told me everything was unloaded, thrown my packing blankets in the back, and closed the door to my U-Haul. I proceeded to drive the UHaul and they had not taken everything out, they had left the three glass portions to my desk in back. At a stop sign I heard a loud crash and they all shattered. This happens, however, and I could have been reimbursed, as they state in the form they give you that they are covered for liability. I called *Name Withheld-(owner)* and he was very nice and said to simply send what it would be to replace it and they would immediately send me a check. I emailed him the information and he replied saying it would be taken care of. Then I didn't hear from him for a week. I emailed again and he asked for the same information I'd already sent, and again no reply. This was six months ago. Since then there have been easily over a dozen emails/phone calls and yet no reimbursement. For this reason I cannot recommend using Competitive Relocation, and instead recommend that you stay away. They will definitely move your stuff in and do a great job doing so. But if damages occur (as can easily happen) you will not be reimbursed and are on your own. read more

I'll begin with the caveat that I have never felt compelled to write a negative review for a company before this. This was beyond bad. Wow, what a nightmare. Avoid this company at all cost. They were supposed to arrive between 7am and 9am. They called to say they would be late, and ended up arriving at 12:50 pm. The entire move - with three guys - took EIGHT hours. Mind you we're talking about a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. Granted - there was a lot of stuff to move, from a second floor apartment to a third floor apartment. Regardless, I've never seen movers as slow, inefficient, and unprofessional as these three. They complained the entire time, cursed, took numerous phone breaks, blocked stairwells and doors to other units, and blamed everything else under the sun for their mistakes. Then came the breaks: they banged up furniture, shattered a glass door in a curio cabinet (that they wrapped), and one guy TWICE toppled over several boxes of glass and crystal because he piled them too high without strapping them down. We repeatedly asked that they clean up the broken glass but they never did. They looked exhausted, and sure enough their boss was overworking them. They had been up late the night before because of a broken down truck, and were up early that morning to finish the previous day's move. I honestly felt bad for them, and wouldn't have complained if they were just late or just slow. But ultimately this is a problem of management, staffing, and scheduling. So here's the best part, I call the company to explain what had gone wrong, and the person I spoke with (the "boss" according to the movers) was patronizing, rude, and spoke to me in an accusatory and condescending voice. Serious, worst customer service ever. She's then talking to one of the movers and through the phone I hear her call me a bitch and curse me out. Wow. Just, wow. read more

We moved from Mansfield to Acton in April 2011. Unfortunately, we had to put our stuff in storage for a few weeks until we closed on our new place. They were great to begin with. They were very cooperative and patient when they emptied us out from Mansfield..... They shrink wrapped and protected quite a bit of stuff. And we weren't well prepared when it came to the basement, but they hung in there with us. But when they moved our stuff from storage to Acton, it was a nightmare.... They did do a good job getting some big furniture up the stairs to the second floor, despite some wall damage. But aside from that, so much of our furniture was damaged that we couldn't understand it. Our mattress had water stains on it..... there were gouges in our leather sofa and much of our wooden pieces. They were in such a hurry when they brought our stuff to Acton from storage and didn't seem to care much about where most of it ended up. We had checked with a number of moving companies and unfortunately took the lowest bid (which they said was underestimated).... And my husband had used them for a small move in his office and was satisfied. And we were very short on cash..... So we went with them. The worst move of my life. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY Where do I begin, I had a scheduled move for a Saturday at 3pm. The movers didn't show up until 9pm (6 HOURS LATE), when they showed up the manager asked me if they could do my move the following day. I told him "no" because I needed to be out of the apartment by that day. They didn't complete my move until midnight. Once they completed my move, i had 3 DAMAGED ITEMS. All of my furniture is fairly new. The leather headboard on my bed had a tear, one of the movers broke the bottom drawer on my nightstand, and they broke the 2 pieces of wood holding up my mirror on my bureau (snapped and dinged the corner of my mirror pretty good. I made the manager sign a document telling me they would have everything fixed in 15 business days. Overall, VERY CARELESS. I have spoken to 3 different individuals. First person asked if she could call me back in 30 minutes never heard from her. Few days later I finally get her back on the phone, she again promised to call me back, and once again, I NEVER HEARD BACK. Next day after I called numerous times and finally got a guy on the phone. I told him how frustrated I was, he gave me the person's cell phone number who "has my replacement parts". I spoke with the person who is going to fix my parts, we scheduled a time for him to come to my house Wednesday afternoon. I took a half day off of work and he never showed, that was last Wednesday, I STILL HAVENT HEARD FROM HIM. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

I used competitive relocation for my move about a year ago and I had such a positive experience I decided to use them again for my latest move. I know now I will never use them again.This is what happened on the day of my move; They arrived 3 hours 45 minutes later than scheduled.One mover was clearly inexperienced and unable to keep pace during the move. He was overheard being given instructions: "When we lift boxes, this is how we lift them." and "We always put boxes in the truck first." His colleague also asked several times if he "was goingto make it." I thought I had hired professional movers! Repeated observations were made of movers making trips withonly 1 hand full, carrying for instance, a lamp and this really hindered progress. We pleaded with them to pick up the pace but got nowhere. 5phone calls and 3 text messages were made toCompetitive Relocations. None were answered or returned. Two itemswere damaged during the move including an antique dresser that had been in my family for 120 years. An additional item was forgotten on the street and left behind in Fenway. I had to retrieve it personally. I was quoted 4 hours for my move. With my help and my boyfriend the job took 8 hours!!!! Competitive Relocations estimates were wildly inaccurate and their men were just not motivated or able to keep pace.Competitive Relocation told me I wasfinancially responsible for the extra hours and demanded $540 extra on top of the $324 I had already paid them for this horrible service! We didn't have this kind of money in our pockets so Lindsey (the owner of Competitive Relocation) told us her men would follow us to an ATM and Lindsey told us if we didn't pay she would call the cops. In hindsight we probably should have let her do that. Eventually we came to an agreement with her that she would give us 24hours to pay but she refused to give us any kind of discount despite bringing to her attention all the items listed above. The next day Lamar called me demanding payment again and also saying they wanted a cardboard box back because it was worth $160. We kept the box for a full week for them to collect but they never did. Competitive Relocation continued to harass me for payment threatening legal action over the next 48 hours. We ended up paying 2 days after the move for fear of being pursued legally. I submitted an insurance claim with Competitive Relocation (per our contract) for damages to my sofa and my antique dresser but they never responded.I submitted a complaint with the better business bureau who sent 2 letters asking for their response and they failed to respond to that too. It was a nightmare move that cost me $864 and left me with costly furniture repair bills. I tell all my friends now that I'll never use Competitive Relocation again and I hope for your sake you don't either. read more

I hired competitive relocation services for my recent move on December 10, 2012. I moved from a 2 bedroom, 2nd floor condo with no elevator to a 3rd floor condo with no elevator. My movers were Jared, Eric and Cory. They were all very professional and courteous. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet they were when moving all of my furniture. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because it wasn't until the end of the move one of the movers informed me that they could not take credit cards that day and that I would have to pay in cash. This was a problem since I did not have $500 in cash to give them. I told him that he should have mentioned this first thing in the morning. At least I would have had a chance to go to the bank. He said he would call management and see if they could take my card over the phone. They were able to do it. I would hire them again. read more

Don't Do It. The movers arrived over 3 hours late, had a truck that was too small and lost one of our boxes. Oh, and they went 4 hours over the estimated time. Each time I called the office to complain, they were dismissive and said they would call back after reviewing the issues. I am positive they did nothing to review issues because when I called back they acted like they had no idea. The movers themselves were nice guys and worked their tails off. I appreciated that, which is why I paid them on that day. They probably could have covered some of the items better. I wish I knew then there was a box missing. We didn't find out about it until the end of unpacking. The customer service is 3rd rate and disrespectful. Seek out a referral on a mover from someone you know who has used them or someone local with a strong reputation. These guys claim to do moving all over the northeast and mid-atlantic, but they don't seem to even know the crews they hire and don't care about their customers. read more

Broke things, were not professional in the least, the owner was the "crew chief" on our move and when there was an issue he had to call his "manager" who happens to be the same person who is the receptionist when I called. Refused to be at all helpful. Was 2 hours late and did not even call to let us know. Took an hour longer than they were supposed to (which we had to pay for) because they dilly dallied at their truck. This company will be reported to BBB and the AG. He committed to come and did not show up even after 4 hrs. will not pick up my phone or respond to emails. also took 100 dollars non refundable deposit. We booked with them, put down a booking fee. The day before our booked date they called in the late afternoon to cancel and push us back a day, and said they couldn't refund the booking fee because it was within 48 ours of our booking time (which was not what they said it was at all, they said it was to guarantee that date and time). Then, on the day they bumped us to, they no-showed with no warning or call. When I tried contacting them to see where they were, nobody was in the office. Over a span of several hours nobody contacted us or was available to be contacted to see if the crew was indeed ever coming. Had to rent a U-haul last minute and do it myself. Finally got in touch with them a few days later for a refund, which they promised to give us, but then didn't follow through. It's been a few weeks since then and I'm still trying to get ahold of anyone to see what the status of my refund is. Avoid at all costs. read more
