Was very happy with the cleaning so I went back. The second time I went in to get my teeth cleaned, it was a newer hygienist and she was not prepared. Spent 10-15 min when I first sat down getting her things together. Then after the Dr checked me out, she spent MAYBE a total of 15 min cleaning my teeth. She had made a comment about how good my teeth look, and I think that therefore meant to her that she didn't need to spend time actually doing a deep clean. Which is absolutely not how that works. If I'm spending $300 out of pocket for you to clean my teeth, you'd better be looking in all the little nooks and crannies. I was in and out of that office in under an hour and was very upset at the cleaning I received. I tried to talk to the front desk about it but they were very uninterested and far from helpful. The practice…read moretried to pad the bill with services that we not only didn't ask for but explicitly asked to be excluded. 3 Times I received a patient plan with those services attached and asking for the money upfront in spite of having insurance and unwillingness to understand the patient just wanted the problem alleviated and that future care will result in dentures for my husband. A week into this I received the "updated" plan with those services still included, the teeth not dealt with and the pain persisting. They seem more concerned with the almighty dollar instead of taking care of the patient to prevent possible infection or abscess while they try to convince us of services we have already said no to several times!

During that time, Dr. Kerst has always treated my family with kindness and made us feel comfortable and cared for. My parents have been especially well taken care of by Dr. Kerst over the years, and my husband has also received wonderful care from him. This has truly felt like a family dental practice to us. I have had many dental issues over the years, and I have walked into his office embarrassed and anxious, only to have Dr. Kerst make me feel calm, respected, and cared for. That has meant a great deal to me. My daughter was born with congenitally missing teeth, and Dr. Kerst has taken beautiful care of her throughout all these years as well. One of the things I have always appreciated most about Latah Creek is that it felt like a family practice. We were never treated like a number. We felt like people who were known and cared about. Unfortunately, what happened on August 11,2026, completely changed that for me. My daughter, who is a college student, went in to have cavities treated. My husband and I were both working, and the office required her to pay $800--approximately half of the bill--before she could leave. I am listed as the guarantor and responsible party in their system. When my daughter called me afterward, she was extremely upset and crying, I felt so bad she was in this situation, I called my husband in tears, he works out of town and the last thing he wants to hear is that both of his girls are in tears because of a dentist office that we have trusted for years, the payment was taken from her account, essentially draining the money she had available as a college student. She said she felt like she was being detained. I know it's so hard to do any paperwork when you've been in the Dental chair and you're numb, that definitely made everything even worse. Those are the moments we need the most care when we're a little out of it. I was honestly shocked and heartbroken. After 10 years of being a patient and bringing my family there, I never expected my daughter to be put in that position. Regardless of the office's billing policies, I believe there was a much more compassionate way to handle the situation, especially when the responsible party was already on file. I want to make it clear that this is not a reflection of Dr. Kerst. He has always made me feel safe and comfortable, and he has taken wonderful care of my entire family. That is a huge reason this situation is so upsetting. Naomi and Tuesday at the front desk have also always been kind to us. Unfortunately, my experience with Audrey Collins at the front desk has damaged the trust I had in this practice. My daughter will not be returning, and I am honestly unsure whether I will continue as a patient myself. Finding a new dentist is a very difficult step for me because of how comfortable Dr. Kerst has made me feel over the years. I had $10k+ worth of dental implant work the end of 2023. Later in 2024, my husband, John, was told a second time, he didn't need to pay the $20 copay again. He asked why. They had overcharged us over $700 on my dental work from 2023 and were using it $20 at a time to cover his copay (now a total of $40 against the $700 credit). They had been using our money for most of 2024. We were shocked and asked for a refund. In November of this year, they sent us a bill for $130. The DS insurance person was snippy with him, but looked into it and not all of the proper forms were sent to our insurance company. She corrected the mistake and we owed nothing. The first of December, I saw Dr. Gaunt to get a replacement upper denture. We paid them in advance on 12-11-25. I received an EOB from the insurance company on 12-23-25 for the claim they submitted on 12-11-25. (I didn't even get the denture until 12-31-25). They had overcharged us again - by $170. The DS insurance person told John they couldn't pay us because they hadn't received payment from our insurance company yet. On 12-31-25, Dr. Gaunt fit the dentures as best as he could. I also asked him the cost of completing the implant from 2023. When checking out, although we didn't ask her, the DS insurance person felt a need to tell John again, each step of the implant procedure. She stood directly in front of me the whole time and spoke directly to John constantly referring to me as "she". She never looked at me. She never said my name. I never said a word, but it was so condescending and embarrassing. Just because I'm old and in a wheelchair, doesn't mean I am blind, deaf, and dumb. Why would she act that way to me? When she was done, John asked her if we would receive a refund. She acted so superior again and said yes and answered with the same contempt when he asked her when. A couple hours later Morris called, identified himself as the current owner of the business and said because John was rude to his insurance person, we no longer were patients at his business. And he didn't want to hear anything John might have to say. I am now left with finding another dentist to pay for finishing the fitting my dentures - for which Morris has been fully paid. Whether John was rude or not, he has sent a letter of apology to DS. Again, check your EOB's.
