Not only is Shelby VERY knowledgeable about the body and diagnosing areas of strength/weakness/injury, she also is very passionate about helping you see and feel results. I worked out with her twice a week for about a year all the way through the final few weeks of my first pregnancy. She (and Pilates) really helped me prepare for having a baby physically and mentally. There were many days when the nausea and exhaustion that can sometimes come with pregnancy would make me want to miss a class, but I knew I would be encouraged and glad to have made it once I got to spend time with Shelby and Brooke. I couldn't imagine what I would be like without having been introduced to Pilates. If you're looking for a work out that is carefully designed for your level of experience, or even just a new way of thinking about how your body is designed to maintain proper health, then certainly I would recommend Studio Six. I've been to many other yoga studios, taken lots of gym classes, and worked out with trainers, but Shelby tops them all in terms of knowledge about the body and health. Always a good dynamic warmup followed by a single structured workout. I have traveled to many other gyms and many of them seem to lose the small gym crossfit camaraderie that ACF prides themselves on. There is no massive classes and impersonal coaching going on here. So when I found an ad in the newspaper for this place offering a free tour of the facility, I made an appointment. First impression: They were friendly and informative without being "salesy." I was offered some printed matter that disclosed all the different pricing options and how their programs work. So I made an appointment to meet with a personal trainer. Second impression: My goal was to find out if they were serious about training or just trying to sell me the program. My evaluation and background check of fitness past and current was thorough and complete and not once was I sold anything. Once the appointment was complete, I signed up for a 3 month commitment to myself. Conclusion: I've been going now for 1.5 months and my work with Lauren has been nothing but positive and slightly amazing. Not only is she working with my quirky body and it's limits, but she's empowering me to use my own equipment at home to continue there when I can't get in to use the facilities at ProActive. I look forward to workouts, even when I dread them, because I know I'm going to learn something new about what my body cannot do at this time and learn how to work toward gaining that strength or range of motion in the not-too-far-off future. I continue to get stronger and my body shape is changing. I feel muscle where there was once just cushy tissue. The fact of the matter is, this is the best gym I have been a member of. I joined Raw Fit a little over a year ago after receiving a free 7 day trial. I knew after the first day that this was the gym for me, so I disregarded the remaining 6 days on my trial and signed up for a full membership. This was one of the best decisions I have made. Raw Fit has created an environment which welcomes people of all fitness levels, shapes, and sizes. They create workout plans which enable all members to achieve their fitness goals. They do all of this with avoiding gimmicks, not selling you on diet fads or supplements, or any other "get fit quick" schemes. Basically they show you if you put in the work and eat a sensible diet, you will see the results. That's it. At this gym, no one judges. Everyone encourages each other to do their best and get better each day. Because of the mixture of great trainers and great members, this is the first time in my life where I look forward to going to the gym each day. Truly a life changing experience. Is this the right gym for you? I don't know. I've found so much healing here, not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. The classes have helped me reconnect with myself, slow down, breathe, and find a sense of peace and grounding that I really needed. The instructors and staff are incredibly caring, attentive, and genuine, and you can feel the intention and heart they bring into this space. There is something really special about the community they've created. I've met wonderful people, felt supported and welcomed, and have always felt like I could simply show up as I am. There is no judgment and no feeling that you have to fit into a certain mold. Everyone is welcome. This studio truly feels like a little gem, and I'm so grateful I found it when I did.
