We returned to Complexity in Nov of 2019 to try their "The Blizzard" Room - You and your team are sent in to search for evidences made by a ground-breaking duo years ago on an important research discovery. You had no idea that a blizzard storm is approaching your team and you need to seek shelter right away. This is the time to sharpen your survival instincts so your team would be able to live through this storm and bring back the research evidence to base! HIT THE BULLSEYE -Intriguing storyline and very different from a lot of the survival and rescue themed rooms we've played so far -All the props used were relatable to the storyline and we felt like we were in a real igloo -The lighting and ambience went well with the room design -Puzzles were mostly linear but explained the story in a reasonable order to accomplish the final goal. With that said, our recommended size for this room would be a max of 3-4 people due to the size and communication factor in the room MISSED THE MARK -This is the first time we actually had to pay attention to the storyline from the game master for something we had to use in the room later. Perhaps there could be another hint in the room just in case the players missed it at the beginning, and it doesn't have to count as a hint? -One game piece might need a bit of clearer instruction of what is "on" and what is "off" from the start as it was a bit confusing to figure out on our own -The hint system utilized can be heard only in one area of the room. Perhaps a speaker that can cover all areas can be installed that would make the players experience more pleasurable -For a more immersive feel to the storyline, the outside area of the door could have a bit of a "blizzard" feel before entering -Some added on wind or lowering the AC effect can also bring in a more immersive feel to the experience. Music would definitely help as well. -The ending could use some work. Perhaps an added-on sound effect for the helicopter rescue just to signify the win as we didn't realize we had been saved until the game master came in a few minutes later saying we've already completed all the tasks TAKE A SHOT? This room reminded us of a "fantasy cartoonish world" like Disney's "Frozen". We felt that kids would really enjoy this room due to the color, props used, and the set design. Some puzzle aspects might even be easier from their perspective as the dim lighting made some clues and colors harder for us to see. We feel that kids will have no issues identifying them. We really enjoyed putting our mindset to basic survival skills and working our steps to finally being successfully rescued! read more

This place is such a great time! We had my son's birthday party here a few years ago and chose complexity bc there were rooms suitable for kids (12+ instead of 15/16+). The kids had a blast and staff was so helpful and made the party flawless. One of my neices was afraid of the dark so they turned the lights on, except for clues that we needed them off to see. I returned with my kids post-covid when things started opening up again and this time had the opportunity to really focus on the puzzles instead of the party. I did a pirate-themed escape room puzzle with some of my friends and it was a ton of fun to do! This is the perfect activity to do as a group as you have to work together to finish before time is up! We did the mall room with four adults and three kids and there was plenty of riddles for all of us to solve and feel like we all pitched in. This was an amazing experience! My daughter had not been to one of these places before and she said that this was a great first choice. We came here with her friend's family (who had a little bit of experience) and chose the room called "The Mall". The owner, Michele, who was very kind and informative, told us that this was the most challenging room that they have. And I'll tell you that is 100% true! We did not escape but our "game master", Sarah, was very nice and helped us out along the way. Sooo much fun!! The best part is that you only go into the room with the people in your party. No randos! And you can reserve online. We walked in and Michelle greeted us at the door. There were puzzles in the front room with locks you can practice on. She did an excellent job providing us with the back story and intro to the room we would be entering. Complexity is an escape room venue that excels in fantastic puzzles, wonderful attention to detail, and a booking system that can't be beat. I attended Complexity with my boyfriend and parents for my father's birthday and we played "The Pirate Ship." Below I will list three of the reasons why Complexity is such a great venue. For context, I have played over 10 local escape rooms, I have experience in helping to structure puzzles in other escape rooms, and I am a big escape room fan! 1. BOOKING The way Complexity schedules and manages their bookings is, in my opinion, is the best there is. Most escape rooms set a very high limit for the number of people who can play a room (usually 8 or 10) and unless you book all of those spots (which can be very expensive), you run the risk of playing with strangers. At Complexity, you will be guaranteed to have the room to yourself with a minimum of 2 participants. This system is very fair and accommodating to customers and I think other escape rooms should follow this model. You are also allowed to add extra members to your booking when you arrive, so adding last minute members isn't a hassle. 2. THEME, PROPS, AND AESTHETICS Many escape room venues cut corners on their room aesthetics, but not at Complexity. The Pirate ship was beautifully crafted and had all of the props and details one would expect in such a room. It was immersive, used light and sound, and had relevant props that connected to the puzzles. Old treasure chests, fishing nets, sails, cloth, maps--it was all there, and it was used well. Furthermore, the puzzles fit into the environment. The items you find and have to use make sense in the setting and it takes an extra level of care to do that. The pictures on the website are of the rooms themselves--so use them as a reference! 3. THEMATIC PUZZLES The Pirate Ship had nautical puzzles, and they were a ton of fun. The clues given fit into the narrative of the room, the items were all nautical themed and felt like they belonged and the mechanisms in the room provided a surprise without feeling out of place. It's hard to go into details with the puzzles, but they had the two most important features: several 'A-HA!' moments and also some surprises which leave you thinking "I wasn't expecting that!" The puzzles were also diverse with some visual puzzles, spatial puzzles, logic puzzles, and even some physical puzzles! AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT I know when I read reviews I try to look for any criticism of a venue, so I like to offer some as well, despite my 5 star review. While the puzzles were a ton of fun, the overall structure of the puzzles was a bit sequential--which means one puzzle needs to be solved in order to move to the next--and so on. While this is perfectly fine for a smaller group, it could leave a larger group with less to do. That being said, there are a few puzzles available from the start, but their 'resolution' won't come until later. Despite this, the room forced us to work together more than other rooms as we all had to focus our attention on one puzzle at a time--which was cool! I highly recommend checking out Complexity escape. Their booking system leaves no risk in reserving a room, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the space is comfortable and easy to find. Our daughter asked to visit an escape room to celebrate her 21st and everyone had a great time! I was impressed to discover that the owner is also the creator of the challenges. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we asked for a hint. I would recommend waiting until you are about 30 minutes in before asking for a hint, and only doing so if you REALLY are ALL stuck. Some of my friends and I decided to try out this new escape the room in CT and found it to be on the much easier side. We had a total of 8 people for the pirate ship room and found the whole finding treasure and "escaping" to be not so difficult. Don't get me wrong, we still had a blast, we just finished a lot faster than we did at the other escape rooms. Onto the next review. If you follow me then you will see my avid enthusiasm for escape rooms. I have completed over 12 rooms in my first year and am now starting my second year of escaping the rooms all over the country. Normally, I'd talk about the evolution of this hobby. I'll spare you that and just say go visit Complexity Games. In fact go right now and book it. Especially, if your a first time puzzler. This needs to be your first trip and the standard to which you measure other rooms. I recently completed the Pirate room and will be back to take on the Burglar one. This room had some of the most interesting theme, story, mechanisms, and puzzles of any room I've visited. Elegant does not adequately meet the definition of how beautiful and well run this room is. I will say that we cleared this room a little quickly and normally that kind of balancing is a huge issue. However, none of my party of of 4 was judgmental about the time spent in the room. That's a testament to how good this place is. It is something to be wary of though if you usually like to race through rooms. A difficulty scale might be helpful as the company develops. I really appreciated another company that offered one. Complexity has great introductions and debriefs. It's a family owned work of art. Please make this your next stop you won't be disappointed. Keep up the amazing work. Pros - Smart, beautiful and amazing puzzles with terrifically themed rooms and an amazing experience. Wonderful staff that cares. Cons - No sets of difficulty levels. This is a REALLY fun way to spend about 90 minutes with a group of people. A friend and I took our boys (two older ones aged 13 & 14, two younger, both age 11) today and we did the "Pirate Ship" puzzle. Michelle, the owner/operator, explained everything we needed to know in great detail before we got started. Although we wanted no hints, she provided just enough information when we began to get frustrated or were overthinking something for too long. Especially for the kids, this was PERFECT and made it a great experience for all of us. The puzzles in the room are really clever. The kids all worked together well to make progress. They were literally jumping up and down when each clue was figured out. (Even the older two who prefer to show no emotion these days.) Let me say that without Michelle's well-timed and perfectly played hints, we wouldn't have figured out the puzzle, and our kids would've felt defeated. She knew exactly how to make this an excellent first time experience, yet she never gave us too much information (we never felt like we "cheated"!). We all left feeling like it was a great thing to do and we can't wait to go back and do it again. The dads would have loved it, so they'll need to be part of it next time. This is a great option for a kids' party, but not for those who are too young. Depending on the group, probably no younger than 10-11. You do have to listen to each other and work cooperatively to figure out the clues. So if you have a bunch of kids in there who won't listen to each other and cooperate, might not work well. My husband and I stopped to complete Complexity Games' Pirate Ship room while passing through on our way to Philadelphia. We try and incorporate escape rooms in all of our travels as a way to break up the ride and exercise our minds while moving around a bit. We have completed over 40 rooms in all of our travels. I would say that this experience in particular falls somewhere in the middle of the pack for us. The room is clearly constructed and the staff is incredibly welcoming and personable. Our game master, Wendy, did a great job with her clues and orientation to the room. Nothing particularly novel in the room and the puzzles weren't anything out of the ordinary. That being said - a very solid room. I would recommend the Pirate room for any folks new to escape rooms that happens to be in the area. An incredible experience for a group of four work friends. The first room we completed, "The Pirate Ship," was extremely immersive as you felt like you were in an actual ship. The story told to us before we entered the room really helped to make the adventure complete as we were given a specific mission. Other rooms we have tried were a jumble of puzzles in several different rooms without a unifying theme. After enjoying our time so much, we immediately booked the second room, "Cat Burglar," for the following week. The concept and puzzles are completely different from the first room so there is no chance of getting bored. We worked with Michelle both times and she is a delight. She was very welcoming and explained the process thoroughly. This is a great place for first timers and veterans alike. We can't wait to try the new "Mall" room when it becomes available. My teenage daughter and three friends went to Complexity the other day, and it was awesome! Because they are all under 18, I sat in the room with them. (It was free for me to sit there as long as I didn't do any "clue solving".) The kids chose "The Mall" and I don't want to give anything away - it was really fun to watch them work together to solve the puzzle. Why it's awesome: My daughter sourced this as an MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE alternative to a different/much more expensive escape room. Complexity is right near the Wood'n Tap in Farmington, so close by. Two of the four kids had never been to an escape room before. Michelle spent a fair amount of time explaining how it works and gave them really good tips for being successful. When the kids got into the room, there was a count-down clock that also serves as a "tip board" for the players. Michelle was watching the kids over a video camera the whole time and would type clues that would appear on the top board right as they were needed The room itself was decorated really nicely as compared to other escape rooms I've been to. (I've been to a different escape room that was an hour drive away and there are black garbage bags pinned to the wall - really cheesy for the money we spent.) There were a lot of cool surprises the kids uncovered along the way. I highly recommend Complexity!!! read more

We went 6/20/20 and our party of 5 had a great time! One newbie, one person with one game under there belt, the other three of us had 5-8 rooms of experience. I'd put this in the moderate difficulty category with a better than average theme/puzzle variety. The really outstanding part of our experience was our game master Kelly! She rocked it. Those of you who've had the experience of an inattentive game master know what I'm talking about. Terrific experience for three 15 year olds girls on a Friday night! They did the Pirate Room puzzle in 60 minutes (with lots of hints from Kyle their puzzle master)! I waited outside the puzzle room and heard nonstop laughter and squealing from the girls. They said the time went really fast and was more fun than they have had in a long time! We just finished doing the Pirate Ship room and had a great time. The themeing in this room is incredible- it really makes you feel like you're on a pirate ship. Every part of the room, down to the locks themselves, felt authentic. While the room itself is fairly low-tech, that doesn't mean there weren't a few things in the room that totally surprised us and gave us those fun 'wow' moments. We hit some roadblocks, but the hints given led us in the right direction without giving too much away. This was our first experience with an escape room and it was a blast! It was just two of us doing the cat burglar room and we had it to ourselves which was a big plus because we didn't want to be in there with strangers. Michelle the game master was great, gave us all the info and clues when we needed them. It was challenging (in a good way), especially with only two people, but We did solve it with 30 seconds left thanks to a few last min clues. Love that it is family owned and operated as Michelle said she and her family come up with ideas and puzzles themselves. Definitely a must with family or friends! My family had an awesome time trying to figure out the clues. They were well hidden and challenging! All ages will be entertained...my 9 yr old to my 15 yr old enjoyed it as well as the parents! Went to complexity 12/29/18 with 3 adults and 3 kids ages 8,10,13. The owner was so accommodating and kind and very helpful. We had a blast. We did the cat burglar room and it was so challenging and clever and just an amazing experience. We all had a blast. Definitely needed help from Michele and with our teamwork and her help we were able to escape with 9 min left. We had so much fun. It was the first escape room for 4 of the people we were with and they just loved it. I would highly recommend going here and trying out the rooms.
