Dr Wu was very nice, patient and answered all my questions during the first appt. The nurses that helped me were also very kind and friendly. The front staff lacks empathy and for working in pain management, that should be a requirement. It took 5 weeks to get an appointment for an initial branch block, I cried after hearing this. They said they had to wait this long to allow for insurance to approve, when it actually only took 1 week for them to approve. Then after the initial branch block appt, I was advised it will be at least another 4 weeks for the second one, but I can't schedule it until it's been 2 days after having the first one to see if it worked. It is only supposed to work for 4-6 hours, why not call after that time period and see if it worked to then schedule asap for the next one???? Who knows how long it will be for the actual ablation procedure, also have to wait for prior authorization and can't schedule until it is approved. You should be able to schedule appts in advanced (should actually be a clear schedule) and if for some reason it's not necessary, you can cancel and maybe they wouldn't be booked out for a month. When you're dealing with people in pain, you would think the ultimate goal is to get them care as soon as possible, but they are very laissez faire about it, hence the lack of empathy. I was also referred to a physical therapist during my appt, then never heard back about it. 2 weeks later I called to get info, then when the PT office called, it was located 30 miles away from me!! The last issue is they sent the wrong procedure, actually a surgery, for prior authorization to my insurance! Administration department needs to get their act together; they aren't very helpful and seem like they just want you to go away. Dr's and Nurses were great, just be advised that while you may get the care you need, it will take a lot of work and time to get there. read more

Note: Regarding their "Extremely Poor Communication". I was told by all locations, the La Mesa and at the Rancho Bernardo offices. I would have to go thru the Insurance Companies Rules in which they need to see if I'm a candidate for Radiofrequency Ablation. With that, they will do the first Nerve Test. I was given as Pain Diary that I was to fill out. The paperwork I received states: Within, 1-3 business days expect a call to discuss Pain Relief. I was also told by my nurse that someone will be calling me to discuss Pain Relief if any. Once that happens that's when it will be decided If I can have the second Medial Nerve Block test done. If I do not have enough relief I will not qualify for the second testing. She told me to be sure I kept track of the pain in which I did. The Day after the Procedure I called the office, no one answered at the Rancho Bernardo. I left a message as I was having some strange side effects from the procedure, that I wasn't told could happen. I was only told to watch for and document Pain relief etc. I never received a phone call back regarding the message I left them on March 4th, 2026 @ 10:05am. In fact, I never received a phone call from them regarding my Pain Relief if any 1-3 days after my procedure. My concerns were not addressed in any way or form, and they did not follow up with their own protocol or that of my Insurance Carrier. It is now March 16th. "13 days since I had the procedure with no communication from them whatsoever regarding if the procedure helped and or I qualified to have to 2nd procedure." The only communication I have received is an automated message reminding me of my appointment tomorrow at the Bernardo Location! I didn't get the chance to speak to anyone regarding the issues I was having form the first procedure. They didn't even know if I met the criteria to even have the 2nd Procedure. They didn't care to respond that I had side effects that were not explained to me could happen. "Again, ignoring my concerns of the unusual reactions I was having, and ignoring their own protocols stated and, on their paperwork given to me when discharging me. I want to State: The Doctor performing the Bilateral Medial Nerve block was really good, as was the tech with the fluoroscopy and the nurses prior to procedure room. The one nurse in the procedure room did stay with me for while prior to the procedure as she was waiting for the room to open up. But she wasn't the ones that did the initial intake and or the release process. Please Note: I give praise to many individuals, the doctors and most staff at the Rancho Bernardo Location. I have been a patient at CPMS for over 15 years. Dr. Chisholm is a great man, and has ALWAYS helped me tremendously with back pain, and now, knee pain. In the last year, I have also been treated by Dr. Chong for my excruciating knee issues. Both doctors are very gentle and caring. The staff at CPMS are all very kind and professional. I would recommend a visit to CPMS if you are experiencing excruciating pain, as I was. They will take care of you by really listening to your issues, and then finding the best path of treatment that will serve your individual needs. As far as I'm concerned, there is no better place to help in all of San Diego county!! On another note, I wrote a negative review a few weeks ago, because I was in a lot of pain, and there was a misunderstanding about my appointment that day. I would give less stars if possible. The Rancho Bernardo office of comprehensive pain management specialist is downright terrible. The staff at the Rancho Bernardo office do not call you back, insult patients, and do not provide an expected standard of care. The staff will blame the patient's primary doctor even when a patient has a a time stamp recording of a phone call and also a copy of an Internet request sent in. All in all, I would not go to this group if I could help it. Insurance is the only reason one would be stuck having to go here and unfortunately that is the case. The treatment at their La Jolla office is much better however you have to work through the Rancho Bernardo staff to get to the La Jolla office stay away from this company if you get a referral, ask your insurance for a different company. read more

I have been a patient of CPM for 2.5 years. I have read all of the reviews and the negative reviews go from one individual who cannot even use profanity in a properly structured sentence to others who articulate their sense of things quite well. My treatment at CPM has been professional and courteous at all times. As patients we have to keep in mind that pain management practices are under constant scrutiny and must be able to defend themselves from any allegation that they are inappropriately prescribing opiates. I am 69 years old and recall asking why I had to be drug tested. I was told that it was to make sure I was using the opiates and not selling them. I asked, "Do I look like someone who would do that?" Dr. Chisholm explained that every patient had to be treated the same in all respects so that CPM could accurately report the protocol they follow with every patient. I can see how someone might take offense at the protocol but CPM has to satisfy the DEA. CPM re-evaluates me as a patient every 30 days. They have recommended treatments such as radio frequency ablation to relieve some of the pain. They have recommended various forms of exercise along with various devices (such as a TENS electrical stimulation unit), all with the aim of providing as much pain relief as is possible with a given patient and with as little in the way of opiates as can be had. My experiences with the physicians, physician's assistants and office staff have all been satisfactory at the low end and excellent at the top end. I have found that me treating the physicians, physician's assistants and office staff with courtesy and respect is a good way to assure that my experience with any physician's office is a good one. It may be that some of those writing negative reviews presented at the office with levels of anxiety that may have made them more likely to be short on patience and understanding with the professionals at CPM. Again, these folks are working in a field of medicine where all the patients report with pain of various degrees. We as patients have to acknowledge that there are people out there who are trying to game the system to access opiates. For a pain management practice to stay in business, they must insist on reasonable evidence of pain and the severity of that pain. I can attest, at the 2.5 year mark, that pain management is a process that can be years long. Those at CPM are doing a good job in a tough field. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! Rude staff starting at the front desk all the way to physicians. The only thing they're consistent at is failure to follow through on the job they're paid to do (or not do). They never answer the phone and if you question anything the response is "well if you don't like it, you can go elsewhere." I would if my insurance allowed me too but when you're on medi-care you're trapped. I've been waiting four months for them to order medication to hopefully decreased my need for pain medication and it is everybody else's fault but theirs that I don't have it yet and as it turns out they have not even processed my prescription for it. I've been receiving injections at this location for a couple of years now and have developed a good relationship with Dr Chisholm and his staff. He is always the utmost professional and really listens to my concerns and offers informative alternatives. I also like the PA's who do the follow up to my injections. I know a couple of years ago there were some problems in the officer but those have been straightened out and no longer exist, those people are gone. I would recommend this medical group to anyone I met and to my friends and family. They do an excellent job and I feel totally assured that this is a safe place to be. read more

I was referred to this clinic by my Neurosurgeon to receive pain management through epidurals. I called them after being referred. There message and email system doesn't work I didn't get a reply or they chose not to reply. I visited the office 3 days later with my referral in hand. They copied my paperwork. The receptionist said they needed more information. That very day I had my neurosurgeon's office fax my referral. I called back a week later and the receptionist said I had to wait a week so I did. I called back two weeks later and the receptionist said they needed my referral. I give up. The staff for this office is incompetent or they have plenty of patients and can refuse new patients. read more

I want to thank San Diego Comprehensive Pain Management Specialists (SDCPMS) for their outstanding customer service. My mother was visiting San Diego, from another state, and SDCPMS immediately scheduled her for an initial appointment within one day of receiving her referral and medical records. Additionally, they scheduled her for treatment within a week, which greatly improved my mother's quality of life. This review is a follow-up to my 9/29/22 review. In which Yelp is listing below prior dated compliments of this facility for some unknown reason. Yesterday I had United Healthcare call regarding my bill. I had them call twice and both times with two different billing employees the individuals stated my bill was $300.00 despite my invoice dated 9/21/22 requesting $200.00 payment. I myself tried to call CPMSG in regards to failure to respond to my letter and the incompetent billing information being conveyed by billing staff 3 times on 9/29/22. I also tried today on 3 separate occasions no answer. Then I called United Healthcare and ask them to call CPMSG they answered and told Destiny D. of Untied Healthcare that the manager of CPMSG has instructed staff to no longer answer my calls. This is how you will be treated if you complain about anything within CPMSG. My rating is -5 stars! Go anywhere else but CPMSG! read more

I had the worst appointment with Dr. Rasekhi. My appointment was for 3:15 however I wasn't seen until 4:50. She spent 5 minutes with me, and I could tell she was in a rush to get out of the office because she didn't bother to look at my knee or my neck that I injured from a fall. Then when I got home, I looked at the prescription for an MRI on my knee, but she put the wrong knee down. She put the left knee when it was my right knee I injured. on the prescription. Also, I went in for trigger point injections on my neck, but their policy is they won't treat you, you have to come back to be treated. And since they are so busy it would be weeks later to actually be treated. What kind of doctors won't treat you with trigger point injections when you are in serious pain? I'll answer that for you, doctors without humanity and ones that only care about the money. I would not trust this company because all they care about is your money not you. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Sigmon. I did encounter a brief delay in having my previous records reviewed, but once I was seen for the initial consult things flowed smoothly. During the consult, Dr. Sigmon laid out the plan, answered questions, and gave me realistic expectations. Dr. Sigmon and staff went above and beyond to treat me prior to my relocation to another state so I could avoid restarting the process all over again. This involved several diagnostics procedures with tight scheduling and multiple calls to my insurance company. I very much appreciate the scheduling accommodations made. I also appreciate the time Dr. Sigmon took to explain what was happening during the procedures! read more

On Christmas Eve 12/24/19 I had an appointment at the Waynesville/Clyde, NC office. Something came up and I had to reschedule the original appointment from 12/17 to 12/24. I initially called on 12/15 left message that I needed to reschedule which I did. When I arrived on 12/24 I was told I wouldn't be seen until I paid the $25 no show fee. I was able to prove that I had rescheduled the appointment appropriately. No matter what proof I had the office manager Christa repeatedly said "no you didn't" call to reschedule. She insisted that I was lying, was incredibly nasty, smart mouthed, and kept rolling her eyes. I spoke up and said no patient should ever be treated this way, that she was being very rude. I had the Marion office (the office that returned my original call to reschedule) call her to prove I had appropriately rescheduled. I also showed her the phone message I received from the Marion office. But she forced me to pay a fee that was erroneously charged or I would not be seen. Adding insult to injury I received the same bill (that I paid on 12/24) in the mail this week. The incident was brought to the attention of Allison/HR On 12/24 and again on 1/7/20 and the matter was never addressed. Why? I was advised to email the CEO directly which I did today. I usually just let things slide, we all have an occasional bad day. But, I was shaking after this encounter and it's still upsetting now. Was it necessary to handle this so badly? It was an inter office internal issue, not a lying patient who owed a pound of flesh. Was it necessary to repeatedly accuse a patient of lying "no you didn't" when I had proof that I did everything correctly? Was it necessary to embarrass me? Was it necessary to treat me so offensively? As the office manager does christa think she's entitled to treat patients as she treated me or is it that she's allowed to get away with it? I don't know but I couldn't let this one slide... gosh, how hard would it have been to say I need to research this and I'll get back to you? Apparently that's not how she does things, instead she repeatedly accuses you of lying. All for the $25 they were charging incorrectly to begin with. read more

THE WORST DOCTOR & STAFF I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED! I was referred to Dr. Chong by my primary doc, and because he's so close to home, I ignored the reviews. HUGE MISTAKE! He is without a doubt the worst doctor I've ever encountered! He expresses no emotion and won't personally engage with his patients. I had a medication regiment that was effective for the last 6 years until I suffered a traumatic injury. My primary doc referred me to Dr. Chong for treatment of the new pain. Dr. Chong prescribed new meds that were ineffective, and he didn't believe me. It sure didn't matter that I was still in excruciating pain after the change. I called his office and got nowhere. Finally, I got an appointment a couple of weeks later, but it was with Chong's PA. At my appointment, the PA excused himself from the treatment room and returned with word that Dr. Chong wouldn't let him change my meds. Two weeks later I had another appointment with Dr. Chong. He didn't even acknowledge my pain or make any effort to understand that my quality of life has significantly declined because of the new medication regiment he prescribed. He refused to switch me back to my old regiment or make any changes until he could be sure there were "no side effects"... Huh? In other words, come back in 2 weeks for a re-evaluation. My wife came back with me and pleaded with him to listen to the seriousness of my pain and get him to at least put me back on my original regiment. He wasn't interested in engaging with her. He didn't even make eye contact. I asked him if there was some reason he wouldn't help me and he answered... "I'm not emotional, see... this is purely a professional decision". He is a COLD HEARTED UNCARING individual and does not empathize with his patients or show any consideration for them as human beings. He is devoid of emotion. And to make things worse, his office staff is totally incompetent and unprofessional. DR. CHONG'S LACK OF CONCERN FOR HIS PATIENTS QUALITY OF LIFE IS DISTURBING! read more

I had an awful experience with Dr. Chong and the staff there. Firstly, after 2 requests I made to ensure they had most recent MRI before my initial consultation, they didn't have it. I had the same problem w a neurologist so I wanted to be sure they had the most recent MRI as the condition has worsened significantly since my first MRI which is about 16 months old. Therefore, the doctor was suggesting steroid injections in the wrong area as he was looking at the old MRI. After showing the doctor a picture of a much more recent MRI on my iPhone (the one I urged them to make sure they had), he then changed his mind on where to inject the steroids in my back.. seriously, good thing I was paying attention and had photos on my phone! Secondly, it may seem minor but at my initial consultation I was asked how much I weigh.. I informed them I wasn't sure as I don't weigh myself regularly and it can fluctuate so they asked me to guess. I asked if they had a scale to which they replied, "well just guess your weight, we'll weigh you later".. I was never weighed at their facility but I'm sure they put something down on my chart. This seems very lazy and unethical to me. Thirdly, I was told I'd be given literature on the steroid injections and medication prescribed.. shockingly, I didn't get anything. Fourthly, after feeling apprehensive about this practice sticking a big needle near my spine, due to their ineptness; I sent a message to the practice's owner through their website as I wanted to let the owner know of my concerns/apprehension and offer them a second chance. Over a week passed with no response to my email so I called and spoke to Anne (guessing receptionist) expressing my concerns and wanting a call back from the owner. Then in a very sarcastic and condescending manner I was told that I "didn't have to get the injections done"... You don't say!! Lastly, I filled out lots of paperwork before being seen which wasn't looked at before or during my consultation. If so, they would've seen the other, aforementioned MRI was performed. Also I provided them with 3 phone numbers, once my insurance company approved the injections, they only left a message on my home phone. I'd been staying away from home so it took me 6 days past insurance approval date to actually hear their message. Why ask for all those phone numbers if you only call one. It must be nice to have so much business that you shun it away with no concern, never mind the regard to their patients' wellbeing. I've asked to be referred to another pain management clinic to perform my injections. Their online reviews aren't good and I can see why. Now I'll have to wait another month to be treated by other facility so thanks for the great service. I hear Dr. Chisholm (owner) is good, it's unfortunate I couldn't get the time of day from them to offer a second chance. read more

Dr. Sigmon has been great but the front and back office is the worst I've ever encountered! Not responsive, not organized and just not patient oriented. Been waiting for an MRI referral for 2 months. Told them at the start my insurance doesn't require. Called in Monday and they couldn't even find where they requested from insurance till they dug thru my medical records while I was on hold. Finally found it as I was told (who knows the truth?). They said they would follow up. I hung up called my insurance and right off the bat, the referral message said there was no need for a referral approval for an MRI. What else did the doctors office need? I called them and gave them the info so I asked them what's next....after all I'm in pain and I need help here! They told me I had to find an MRI company that takes my insurance. I then asked, "don't i need a doctors order ?" And the front desk said no which I knew enough that that wasn't true. So on first call I found an MRI company who said they accepted my insurance and they said they needed a doctors order. I politely asked them to call the doctors office direct for the order, which they kindly did and to this day they left a voicemail but have not heard back. I just got off the phone with CPM and they basically went back to what they told me that they needed a referral from my insurance. So I proceeded to tell the receptionist again my frustration to no avail ! I told her maybe it's time to look for another doctor. And she basically agreed! Too bad Dr. Sigmon, your staff needs more patient-relation training! I need to find another doctor. read more

Dr. Chong is a fantastic pain specialist! I switched over to him at the beginning of the year because I was not happy with my prior doctor. Dr. Chong seems to really care about his patients, and actually spens time with you and listens. It is a welcome change from my previous experiences. He is not about just prescribing meds, he does a treatment PLAN, and offers different types of procedures. The staff there is also great! I am so happy I found him! read more

Its funny, because except for Dr. Wagner, all the docs and PA's are good, it is the horrible, unprofessional, and absurd office staff that is ridiculous. They will not help you, will hang up on you numerous times and not try to find any solution for you, and will give you the run around many times over because apparently, they are in charge, not Dr. Chisolm. One of them even told me that. Another one of them cussed and raised her voice at me and Christine in the billing department is the most worthless person in the world. She is unprofessional, unaccommodating and refuses to help w2uth billing, even though she messed up and its her fault I was billed over 300 dollars when I have insurance. I called to see if she would take care of it and she says its my job??? Wtf??? Isn't that your job as the biller at the office? All I have to say is run from this office. Worst medical staff I have ever experienced. Basically be prepared to do all the work. You will have to monitor your own insurance approvals and call CPM on a weekly basis to make sure they are doing the right paperwork and well as scheduling. I went here for over a year and have never gotten a single call back when leaving a message, never got a single call from them letting me know of any approvals and or to schedule an appointment / procedure. As stated, you basically have to be prepared to do all this on your own. They keep telling me they are understaffed and can't keep any new hires for very long. Bottom line is it sometimes takes them 4-6 weeks to do the basic paperwork items. There is no organizational process here. Good luck getting someone to answer the phone, and most of the time if you go to voice mail it ends up cutting you off. Overall, the people are nice in person, just as a whole this business should not be open, or someone needs to come in and clean house and structure this like a real business. Bottom line, the customer is in pain and shouldn't have to be doing there job for them. Advice: If your doctor recommends them and you read this review or the other negative reviews on them, do yourself a favor and request your procedures to be done with a different company. read more

I finally have an appointment after months of dealing with Susie. She clearly doesn't care about her job or the patients. If people are suffering in pain, one would think that they should be seen as soon as possible. Susie doesn't seem to think so. She never returned my phone calls and I had to have my referring physicians' office call the pain office. The pain office didn't return her calls either. Susie, shame on you for not caring about patients or their pain. Seriously, how do you sleep at night?! I hope you never suffer from chronic pain and need help from somebody like you. read more

I have been going to CPM for several years for various procedures and am very satisfied. The entire staff is wonderful...all very kind and professional. Dr. Chisholm is the doctor who has taken care of me ...he has all the qualities of a provider that I really appreciate. I have complete confidence in him. He is very professional, down-to-earth and charismatic. He explains various options to me and is honest and forthcoming with regard to expectations of the outcome of the recommended procedures. I feel better just speaking with him and I've heard positive comments from other patients that match my feelings. Thanks again to the entire staff! read more

This place does not even deserve 1 star. I think Dr Sigmund is probably a good doctor, but you can't get treated there because of the staff. This is the worst i have ever been treated by anyone in my life. It took 3 months for the referral coordinator to do her job and get my approvals. I spoke to her on the phone and she was very rude. She pretty much told me that they understaffed and she didn't have time to put my approval through. Unacceptable behavior from her. Trust me, It was not the insurance company on this one. It was the referral coordinator. I finally got the approvals and got a test block for RFA scheduled. Four hours before my procedure, I get a call that they need $1600 up front. They couldn't tell me why. I asked to get someone on the phone who could. The person knew a little more and told me that their surgery center didn't have a ppo contract with the insurance company. You wait until now to tell me. I have to have 2 test blocks and then RFA. Each time I would have to pay $1600. Unbelievable that they call themselves Pain Management. They manage it alright. They should have a slogan that says 'Your pain will get worse with us because we don't care about you. It's not even the $1600 that bothers me. It's the fact that they have someone call you who knows nothing and can't give you any information as to why and why would I pay that kind of money for incompetency. Why didn't a doctor call me or someone who can explain it better. Now I have to start over with a new pain management. I would stay away from this one. Never again will I step foot in this place. I care about my health and I don't want a doctor who doesn't. There is a reason that your reviews are 2.4. That is not good. Avoid this place at all cost. read more

Dr Chong and his team at CPMS have been a great help with my chronic pain. The physician is fair and has good practice habits. If there is ever anything that I need or if I am having an urgent situation, he and his staff do the very best they can to help. I am thankful for Dr. Chong and his treatment plan which helps me enjoy life with my condition and allows me to be with my wife and six children in a better state of well being. Dr. Chong was definitely not the best pain management doctor I have ever seen. While his nurse is very kind, and he appears to be kind and caring he was completely unrealistic in my treatment. We tried several treatments for my lower back pain that didn't help. When I finally got a MRI that showed I had a collapsed disc L4-L5 and needed to have spinal fusion surgery I thought that this would finally make him treat my pain seriously. First they do not answer the telephone , if you try to get information for a appointment, hey screen everyone, and will call you back when they feel like it The entire office staff has a very poor attitude for customer relations, from the front desk to the Manager Nicki. . If you have a appointment, you are wasting your time. Dr. Chong showed up 4o minutes late for our appointment, no one notified us of the Doctor was running late. When he arrived he had no explanation, or concern never had a word why he was late. He prescribed a pain patch that cost $305.00. Later at the Pharmacy, the Pharmacist pointed out that there is a over the counter patch with 1% less efficiency for $9.00. In a industry that is dealing with patients in pain, you might think they would have some level of compassion. They do not care and they prove it with how this organization operates from the Doctors, to management to the receptionist. Don't cause yourself any more pain. Go somewhere else, (anywhere), this level of service is not reasonable or acceptable. read more
