"Concentric circles Wider and wider From the stones that you threw" (Fatboy Slim) Located pretty much under the Arrigoni Bridge connecting Portland to Middletown lies the Concentric Brewing Company. When you walk in, you'll notice two big attention grabbers -a big circular bar in front of you and big silver brewing tanks to your right. The tanks are key, because all of their beers are made right here at the brewery. Fourteen of them were on tap, with representatives from the IPA, Stout, Fruit Sour, Pilsner, Irish Red, Witbier, Brown Ale, Saison, and Stout branches of beer's family tree. The non-beer drinkers won't go home thirsty, because Concentric offers them cocktails, wine and ciders on the menu. A professional organization I belong to met there last night for beers, food, and a charity collection. I enjoyed a pint of their Portland Lite Pilsner (5.1% ABV) - it was refreshing and quite tasty. Concentric has a pretty nice bargain on four-beer flights for just $12. Our group bought quite a few of them and I also enjoyed a short pour of their Forever Red Irish Ale (5% ABV) and Quarry Brown American Ale (6.2% ABV). I enjoyed both and as a non-IPA guy, I was struck by how many non-IPA's they had. Now we all know that a good beer goes best with some good food, right? Well, we had big serving trays of Chicken skewers, French fries and excellent Firecracker Braised Pork and Beef Meatballs, cooked with Concentric Beer and a Smoked Ancho Glaze. The chicken was served over an incredible bed of spicy cabbage chunks that a friend described as "vegetable crack". That serving tray should have been classified as a controlled substance! It was cold last night, so we didn't have the chance to wander around outside and take advantage of the outdoor beer garden and lawn areas. I went for New Years Eve for about an hour because they closed early :(. I really enjoyed the flight, specifically the Donut stout or porter was well made, and actually tasted like a DONUT. Stopped in recently for some beers on the patio. it sees the food vendor has switched for the better from the previous food vendors. Had a flight of beers and a chicken sandwich - the service was a 5, the beers were a 3.5 and the food was a 3 but based on no half points had to go with a 3. the chicken sandwich was a little tough and possibly undercooked a bit and the fries wee limp. The flavor was good but they need to work on execution Will go again because everyone has a bad day occasionally read more

Concentric Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Portland, Connecticut in February 2021. It was founded by partners Dave Peichert, Drew France and head brewer Brian Aida. Peichert works as a financial planner while France is a Middletown firefighter and Aida is a physical therapist. All three live in Portland and bonded over their shared love of homebrewing. They showcased their beer at various brew festivals around the state. After seeing the positive reception it got, they decided to open their own brewery. The partners chose the name "Concentric" (meaning "having a common center") to reflect their love for brewing good beer and having a fun place that customers will keep wanting to come back to. In April 2022, they introduced their on-site kitchen "Graze". The name refers to the menu's shareable food and fresh, local farm-to-table ingredients. I recently visited Concentric for the first time after going for a long bike ride on the nearby Air Line State Park Trail. I was greeted by co-owner Dave Peichert who was nice enough to sit down with me and tell me all about the brewery. The taproom (which features the largest circular bar in the state) always has at least 14 beers on tap as well as two guest ciders. All beer is brewed on the premises and they have a 50 bbl fermentation capability. Their outdoor beer garden (which features a fire pit) always has live music on the weekends. I ordered a sampler flight which featured "Agave Barrel-Aged Raspberry Lime Ripple" (Sour), "Awkward Family Photos" (IPA), "Triple Core" (Triple New England IPA), and 2022 "Bourbon Barrel-Aged Breakfast in the Caribbean" (Imperial Stout). The latter two were my favorites! From the food menu, I ordered the "Fig + Duck Bacon Pizza" (fig & tomato spread, feta, arugula, balsamic, mushroom, duck bacon) and the "Tomato + Pepper Pizza" (tomato & roasted pepper ragu, whipped lemon ricotta, basil). Both pies were excellent and paired well with the beers. I brought the leftovers home for my appreciative family. I had a great experience at Concentric and I look forward to returning! read more

I always love when I find a fun new local brewery to frequent and I was so happy to stumble upon Concentric a few months ago when I was in the area with some friends. The space itself is so cool and I love the wrap around bar as a lot of breweries don't give you the option to sit right at the bar and chat with the beer tenders. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming and they are always eager to answer our questions about the large number of beers that they offer. They always seem to have events going on as the first time we were there was a market with a bunch of local vendors and most recently we were able to enjoy some great live music as well. The beer is fantastic and I've started out with a flight both times that I've gone so I could try as many options as possible. My favorite beer so far has been the Helles Yeah which is a delicious and easy drinking lager. I also love the Portland Pilsner which is also light and refreshing. read more

Came here during a day trip to Middletown to explore the area and have some drinks. Felt safe entering the brewery as they asked us questions, made us sanitize and we had a table distant away from everyone which put my mom and dad at ease. My sister, Dad and I enjoyed a flight while having a pretzel because of the requirements of the state. Ordering was easy at the bar and it was prepared at the counter. As you can see from my picture it was a little crowded by the line to order but we had masks on and kept a distance as best as we can. Cold beer served with a smile at the 360 degree bar. Brews: I ordered a flight to get to know their selection. My guess is in a year+ more their beers and flavor profiles are more developed. The apricot is a light sour so a good intro beer for those who are new to sours. Beach Traffic has notes of vanilla and clove. Their best is the Awkward family photo, imo. Even the name is fun. It's a subtle ipa and pairs well with the nachos! Food: Share it all! These appetizer portion bites are great for a snack between rounds of cornhole outside. The mushroom tacos were delicious! Admittedly I was bummed because they were small but what they lacked in size they made up for in flavor. Nachos had a nice spice from the jalapeños. Sliders were different, leaning to more pork in the mixture. Atmosphere: Stand out round bar with moody blue glows. We experienced live music (bluesy rock folk) on Saturday. Games inside and outside. I stopped in here while in the area with my husband to try some beer and a new spot. The inside was very fun, clean and well decorated. It was also great to see that they had food onsight to go with the beer. They had 14 beers available and everything but the ciders were made by the brewery. I liked how they had a wide variety and it wasn't all just IPAs. You could get 5oz pours which was great to try out a few. I'd recommend their mouthful of nuts stout and their pale ale. Came here in 2021 for a trivia night with some friends. It was a lot of fun, I enjoyed the overall atmosphere. Parking was ample and the outside was very attractive as well as inside. Service was prompt as it was head up the bar to get your drinks, though they did provide some limited food that night. While I do not recall what we all drank I do recall everyone loving what they had! I'd love to come back here sometime! read more

During a visit back to my home state, I wanted to check out a few breweries in the area. My sis and her husband suggested Concentric, as they've gotten a couple of growlers to go but never got a chance to actually sit down and enjoy a beer there. Yay vacation! LOL. Concentric is located near the Arrigoni bridge, just right underneath it by the Connecticut River. If you are not familiar with the area, you will definitely miss the exit for it, so I highly suggest using a GPS. There is plenty of parking, and I love the space inside. The bar is circular (very fitting) and the menu of the current beers they have on tap is easily displayed at the order area and throughout the brewery on large flat screen TVs. There is even a patio outside for the warmer months if you want to enjoy your beer or flights out in the sun. I decided to get a flight consisting of Udderly Whimsical (stout), Breakfast in the Caribbean (porter), Pineapple Sunset (fruit) and Love Shouldn't Hurt (cider). Yes it was a very interesting flight LOL, but I like to try a wide range of beers. I liked all, but I would have to say my favorite was the Udderly Whimsical; it was very smooth and I loved the rich flavor. The service was great; there was a gentleman walking around the brewery, checking on everyone and seeing if folks were ok or needed a refill. If you have the munchies, there is also "Hot Dogs in the Hallway" located within the brewery with some loaded dogs and apps. I'm glad to have stopped at Concentric during my time back in my home state. It is a must if you are a craft beer connoisseur. read more

This place was a little hard to find. It almost seems like it's on Lower Main Street. I like the way this place looks. There is a hotdog place inside the brewery and I should probably do a separate review because I don't want that to reflect on my review of this brewery (a little pricey for what you get). I ordered a couple IPA's, a Saison and a stout in a flight and I liked them all, especially the Moving Target which was an imperial double IPA. It was made with mosaic hops and it tasted great. The circular bar was cool too. I recommend everyone try it out. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It has such a cool vibe. Unfortunately the food is inedible. If you're going for drinks you'll be fine. The food, however, is awful. Went for the third time last night. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The burger was gross. We couldn't eat it but thought maybe it was a one time thing. Second time we had the pretzel which was so-so but the dipping sauces were awful. Last night We had to send our chicken sandwich back because it was pink in the middle. The cook was actually quite rude and argued that it was fine. A pink chicken sandwich! The hamburgers have such a weird taste, they are awful. How do you mess up a burger?? Even the fries are awful. The ketchup is nasty too. It just tastes like straight up tomato paste To top it off, they couldn't find my bill to refund me the chicken sandwich! Turns out they put it on someone else's tab and blamed me for it!! Great ambiance. Cool vibe. If you are going for drinks and hanging out, you'll be fine. Just don't order the food!! read more

I discovered this hidden gem only because one of my favorite local chefs, the wizard known as Chef Chris (formerly making magic at Conspiracy on Main Street in Middletown, CT), popped up there. He's now running the kitchen. One of the shortcomings for me of too many breweries and wine bars is that they do not commit to food, or if they do it's an afterthought (or worse, garbage). Not so the owners of Concentric: they are determined to make their already excellent craft brewery something of a gastropub destination. The menu now has something for everyone, including on my recent visit a few days ago (December, 2022) a superb caramelized brussels sprouts dish with a romesco-inspired sauce called romanesco on the menu (Spanish romesco, well-done--especially favoring almonds, pine nuts, hazelnuts, peppers, and garlic more than tomato--is a good excuse for anything!) and an inventive fig and duck bacon pizza. The even better news is that Chris is being given free rein and will soon be featuring international street-food-themed offerings on the menu. Chris has the gastronomic Midas touch so anything he does will instantly elevate it. Let me say, too, the space itself was a pleasant surprise: ample, high-ceilinged, well-lit, with a round-bar in the center, lots of space between tables, cheerful, friendly, and inviting, with the beer-brewing machinery on view for atmosphere. The owners have plans to open a roof-top deck, which will probably offer views of the nearby Connecticut river. There's already an inviting outdoor patio. Oh, and the beer! I tried a flight of the Core (IPA), Mouthful of Nuts (Stout), Moving Target (DIPA), and Forever Red Ale. Superb! The citrusy Core, full-bodied Mouthful, and refreshing Moving Target were especially satisfying and inventive. The staff is friendly, eager, and knowledgeable with a welcome commitment to quality and inclusiveness and prices that are hard to believe given the quality. The brewery just past the bridge, the exit is easy to miss but definitely worth the backtrack if you are in the mood for a good beer. Had the quarry brown ale, some nice roasted malt notes that leave the impression of coffee. The food service wasn't the greatest, decent quality got dog's but the toppings need some love and I would love to see some improvement on the variety of what food they serve. Will definitely be going back soon as these crowlers are going to make for some great stocking stuffers(socks in the fridge?) I had a a few flights to try everything on tap and try as I might I really couldn't find much in the way of flaws in the beer solid sours and probably something for everyone(if you like beer) But all and all the personable service and high quality of the beer outweigh the food issues in my opinion. Beer was good food horrible. Make sure you eat before going. Had crab fritters, barely any crab until the last one and they were cold. Fish and chips 2 were cooked 3rd one unedible it was raw. Ketchup for fries were watered down and didn't taste right. I told the bartender the pretzel sucked it was clearly not even 1/2 eaten. Said sorry but no compensation or care. Had a great time at Concentric this afternoon. Everything inside is clean and bright. I really liked that there was someone to greet you as you walk in the door, to answer any questions, especially since it was our first time there. There was a good selection of beer and cider for the 4 glass flight. I ended up going back for a glass of the honey crisp cider. State law requires a food purchase and there is a hot dog "stand" in the brewery called Hot Dogs in the Hallway, with some of the best hog dogs I've had, although a little pricey. The patio was comfortable and sunny, there were a few propane heaters, but weren't needed today. We will definitely return! read more

The beer and cider is good but you can't bring food in. The food that they do have is only fair. Hot dogs, pretzel bites etc. The issue is that they make you think that you're gettings side orders with the hot dogs but they do charge, $1.00 for mack & cheese less for coleslaw.
