Overall not a bad place. I am not a big fan of the restaurant scene in Avalon. So for a reasonably priced, decent meal, I will come to the Concord. Pizza and sandwiches aren't too bad and prices are kept under control. I have heard good things about their burgers. I plan on trying one when I return this summer. read more

Went to the Concord Cafe last weekend and had the best chicken cheese steak on the island!! Our waitress, a tall brunette, was super friendly and attentive! It is busy, with good reason I think. I didn't think it was cheap, $11.50 for a cheesesteak, $6 for wings, $9 for Jalepeno poppers (yes, very healthy eating) but the drinks were weirdly priced - $4.50 for a gin and tonic, $5 for a Blue Moon. But everything was really good. Pizza's looked good. Bartenders friendly and efficient even though they could have used another set of hands it was so busy. People waiting outside for a table even tho it looked as though there were some avbl. I would def go back. Esp since I agree with Jeff D - not a big fan of restaurants in Avalon either. And - what is it with the summer work crowd in Avalon? Privileged kids being MADE to work? I dunno. read more

I want to start this review by saying our server was super friendly and attentive! We were seated instantly and the wait time on refills and our food was perfect for the occasion! We've been coming here since this place sold package goods. Always a great spot for great bar food. But something's happened...we visited twice this week and earlier this summer...horrible pizza (our go to item), don't even think about the calamari, except for my grandaughters who had plain pasta with butter no one had a decent entree. The wait staff seemed to be all...well just kids with zero wait experience. If I could give zero stars, I would! The owner, Nancy Barnaby should be ashamed of herself and her staff. The waitress, Katey, clearly does not like her job. She did not write our dinner order down (party of 6), and predictably, over half of the order was wrong. Katey walked away from the table, rather than taking the meals served in error back to the kitchen. She then picked up 5 water glasses for refill, confident that she would return them to their rightful owner. Adopted an attitude when I called her out on her egregious error. The owner checked back to our table, slapping me on the back twice asking "Are you always this pleasant when you go out to dinner?" The owners also moved their Wildwood Crest success "Marie Nicole" to the opposite corner at 79th and Ocean. Marie Nicole changed their menu and, after our experience at the Concord, we summarily cancelled our reservations. Skip both venues. Go to Fred's or the Princeton for upscale bar food and go to Union Park in Cape May for date night. Appreciate the quick table and service on a Saturday night in August. The calamari was not the best (rather chewy) but the salad I had as an entree (with almonds and cranberries) was very very good. The kids enjoyed their pizza too. It is a simple place but they were friendly and quick and helpful. Oh and the wine was pretty good for only $6 a glass. read more

We ordered four pizzas for take out at 5:30 and were told it would be one hour. When we went to pick up the pizzas they had no record of our order. Have been here a lot. Service is hit or miss. Bar is basic so can't go wrong . Food is usually pretty good. Service can be unpredictable due to seasonal staffing. Prices are reasonable for this type of a shore venue. read more

Have eaten at Concord for years and always had a decent meal. Not so tonight. I had the absolute worst cheesesteak I have ever had!! It was tasteless and the chicken was mushy. Onion rings were no better. Think I'll be going to Bradley's from now on to get cheesesteaks to go read more

Ordered takeout for the family. I order a balsamic chicken sandwich & chicken parm dinner to go. When ordering my sandwich, I asked for sweet potato fries as my side. The phone person repeated my order, and he was very nice and pleasant. I got home and realized I was given regular fries. I wouldn't have minded if they weren't $1.99 extra. Was told if I came back now I could get my fries replaced which was ridiculous considering it took 30 minutes to get there and was already home. Didn't anyone look at the ticket order? Asked if they could credit me next time, left my name and number, never received a call back. Oh well. Last straw. They can keep the $1.99 because I'm not going back. Food was just barely mediocre, sandwich's chicken breasts were very chewy tasting possibly old leftover chicken and the chicken parm was fair at best. Sauce/gravy was very bland. Pouring rain all day. Was looking forward to a cup of soup and a sandwich. Seated by hostess who immediately went back to paying attention to her phone. Couple next to us had water (so I deduced there was a server around somewhere) and looked as though they were patiently waiting for their food to arrive. One other four top seated in dining room besides some bar patrons, so not terribly busy. After approximately fifteen minutes hostess seated another couple. Waited another few minutes and sure enough couple seated after us was approached by the server before we were. Clearly there is no supervision nor communication. Did I mention it is now off season and restaurants should be fighting for every customer dollar being spent here? Hostess ignoring her responsibilities is the face of your business Concord Cafe. Should have read the reviews before ordering from here. Called about the special of any burger, ff and soda before 6:00 for $9.99. Called and asked if it was any burger on the menu and was told yes. Although if we were ordering takeout, we wouldn't be getting the sodas because they don't have lids. Wonder what they do for children ordering off the menu, but ok I can get over not getting the drinks. So, after being told again it was any burger for the special, we placed our takeout order. Now 4 burgers at $9.99 + tax does not add up to over $49.00 . I told the young employee that my bill couldn't be right so he said well you ordered the most expensive burgers on the menu. When I said I was told twice it was any burger on the menu, he didn't seem to know what to do. I asked for the manager. After showing her the special, she did ring me up for the special price. Stick to the pizza if you are ordering from the Concord. Ate in tonight and ordered the special "Taco Tuesday". Received unseasoned ground beef in a soft tortilla with tomato and onions. Side of sour cream, chips and salsa. No lettuce, no cheese. As simple as tacos are, this was lacking. read more

For years we use to go to this place all the time, but than prices started going up every summer and yet we still went back, heck it's Avalon, but tonight was the last straw. I don't think I have ever written a bad review but I almost feel compelled to do it, the food is bad, don't know how else to say it. We ordered the egg plant and chicken parm special, my wife is still looking for the chicken. I found mine and I told her she was better off for not finding it. My chicken was chewy and tasted like it was a couple days old. The eggplant had zero taste. The spaghetti sauce/gravy, just terrible. Since I didn't like my entree I tried the roll that accompanied it, it had to be 2 days old. Good luck finding the parmigiana cheese, does not exist. I know it's September but the place was crowded, so you would think at least the rolls would be fresh. We did order pizza last year and it was not bad but I will never ever order an entree from this place again, what the hell happened to this place. When a place has a commercial on TV and they show mussels yet they don't have them on the menu, what the fudge. I hope they bring back the old Concord but I'll never know because I am done. read more

Just left the restaurant after over a hour. The waitress took our order and provided drinks and disappeared for over 30 minutes. No refill no explanation on why the food was taking so long. At one point I walked around the restaurant and every employee was missing including the bar tender. When the waitress finally returned (with no food) we asked for at least refills, which she didn't bring but the host brought 10 minutes later. When the food arrived it did not arrive at the same time (took 10 minutes in between delivery to our table by 2 different people), 2 of the orders were wrong, and the food was very dry and barely warm. Food is defiantly over priced for the quality. Once we received our food, our waitress never returned to the table. To pay the check I had to go find the waitress and wait while she rang it up. As a side note, the man seated at the table next to me said he knew the owner and the service was terrible because she wasn't there. I don't recommend anyone to go to this restaurant unless they have a lot of time to spare. read more

Stopped in here at about 3:30 this afternoon for a bite before heading home and the food was good. The service was not so good. Not because the server was inefficient,quite the contrary, she was excellent. The place was very understaffed. Ashley was our hostess, server and busboy,not only for us but for the entire restaurant, and while I understand that times are tough for business owners, I do not understand why a business owner would hurt his business by cutting staff to the point that people are walking out because they can't be seated. I watched people wait ten minutes at the door waiting to be seated then leave while Ashley was picking up orders from the kitchen and waiting tables, bussing tables, answering the phone and cashing out checks all alone. She was a one man band and that only works onstage. She never even saw the people at the door because she was so busy waiting tables and picking up orders from the kitchen. She had a great attitude through it all and the Concord is lucky to have her. read more
