Great beer & food! We came for lunch on a dreary weekday and sat on the covered patio. I had a nice light refreshing watermelon splash beer & the crispy brew pub chicken sandwich and fries. Both were great. I did realize about halfway through my sandwich that I think it was missing the mustard but I don't think I realized at first since the chicken was so good and crunchy. Another person in our party was also missing a sauce on her meal, but realized it right away and they provided it on the side. Parking doesn't seem to be the easiest since there are so many hotel/resort spaces in the area, but one of the staff did let us park in one of the spots since the street parking was full. I'm not sure what's normally allowed though so be prepared to find street parking and walk to get there. We spent our time dining outside so I didn't snap a pic, but the inside is really cool with kegs and lights covering the ceiling. read more

I've had mixed experiences here. Some have been excellent, and others just ok. There was one time the food and service were perfect but another time, I had to physically walk to the bar to get my drink b/c the waitress was too busy (my food had already arrived). The dirty martinis with blue cheese olives have been consistently excellent, and the kid's mac and cheese is amazing (more like a pasta). I've had steaks a few times and they have been good, and the pizza as well. Overall, I do recommend the restaurant, but I think the quality of the food and service is contingent on how crowded the restaurant is. read more

Started with a friendly hostess trying her best to check our reservation off while her co-hostess colleague chatted on the phone preventing her from using the reservation system while we stood there waiting for several minutes. Post Covid and the service is still challenging (terrible). Drinks took a long time to arrive. Our server never checked on us during dinner to see how the entrees were or if we wanted a second drink. The definition of inattentive. Who trains these kids at the hostess stand and servers?? Clearly no one. Atmosphere is ok but very noisy. Food was not as good as our previous visit. Started by ordering the "freshly baked cornbread with honey butter" and received cold dry cornbread with cinnamon on it. I flagged our server to tell him and it was removed from the bill. The crab cake sandwich was fine but the French fries were barely warm and seemed old. The blackened grouper sandwich had very good flavor but the fish was overcooked and seemed rubbery. I ordered a beer and was told that the menu I had was wrong and they didn't offer that drink anymore. OK...no big deal but still off-putting. Our first mistake was not reading the most recent Yelp reviews noting how horrible and inattentive the service was. I made reservations for my wife and I because we're both fans of brew pubs and Avalon looked like a decent spot to go for our first date night in over a year. We got to the hostess stand and were told the only table available was outside, which we did not want due to wind. They didn't give us how long we'd have to wait, so we grabbed seats at the bar and ordered drinks. 20 minutes go by and I go back to the hostess and ask if a table is ready or how long it would be. My latter question wasn't answered, but the supposed manager said they had a table outside, which I reiterated I did not want. I told them that we'd sit at the bar and remove us from the wait list. The bartenders were busy and overall inattentive to us at the bar. One of the two clocked out after taking our order. We waited, and waited and waited and noticed other food orders coming out and ours still nowhere to be found. After 40 minutes, my wife asked the bartender what the issue is, and he went in the back and came back to tell us there was a "technical" issue with our order (aka the other bartender never put our order in). He apologized and said they would get our food out shortly. We continued to wait and wait some more. By this time, we had been there close to two hours. We then approached the manager to have our food boxed up to go. Miraculously our food came out at the same time. My wife told the manager we wanted it boxed up with no sufficient reaction from her. Finally, fed up, we thew cash down for our drinks and left. If you're looking for attentive service, I would avoid this place at all costs. We certainly will not be back. read more

We had a nice experience here upon arrival into Avalon! We were staying across the street at the Desert Sands Resort and popped over for some beers and dinner. There was a bit of wait so we posted up at the bar. Shoutout to the bartender who was on, as she was hustling. I really enjoyed my flight - especially the shandy and the pumpkin brew. I went with the crab cake sam for my dinner and it was quite tasty. Tomato on top with a bun toasted to perfection. Their fries were great and the perfect accompaniment to my beers. Made a reservation through their website and received a confirmation. Arrived 15 minutes prior. Hostess insisted thay we did not have a reservation even afyer showing confirmation. Place was 80% empty inside and 100% empty outside. We weren't overly impressed by our dining experience at the Avalon Brew Pub. It wasn't BAD but it wasn't stellar. While they were relatively busy, they didn't seemed to be swamped. However, service was pretty painfully slow. It seemed they had a good bit of personnel but some people seemed entirely overloaded (wait staff) while they seemed to have other people mostly standing around. Service was good, just slow. We had the calamari which was fresh and crispy but just way too salty. We had the sausage flatbread, also tasty but rather soggy in the middle. So you couldn't really pick up a slice without either folding, cutting or using something to keep it from falling apart on your way to a bite. Very tasty. Just soggy. My spouse really liked the fish and chips. She thought the batter was flaky and the fluke was light and tasty. The fries with old bay were crispy and hot. The slaw was tangy and not overly sweet, though we did have to ask for it since it was left behind-- once we found someone to ask. It was a bit odd the fish and chips came with a side of ketchup and a side of Mayo. Ketchup for fries, I get. But was the Mayo for the fries too? Or was it just tartar sauce without other ingredients? Anyway.... I wouldn't avoid the place but given we are on vacation... On a recent off-season vacation, my family and I decided to stop in here for some brews and food. It was an okay experience. Food - hit or miss. Nothing was bad, but our crabby cheese fries were a strange combo of nacho-style cheese that sharply contrasted with the lump crab meat. The cheese steak dumplings basically captured the essence of a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich but overall left me underwhelmed. My wife loves a good burger and theirs wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. I decided to spring for the bouillabaisse. It was very tasty with big chunks of scallops, lobster, shrimp, as well as clams and mussels. A big boule bread was a nice accompaniment. My only complaint would be that I wish there were more broth to mop up; it was very flavorful. Drinks - not bad. They brew about 5 beers plus a seasonal. They also offer a number of other craft beers. You can get a flight to sample a few at a time. Most were good while others were just okay. The service was very slow. The interior is not that large, though it is large if you are the *one* waitress trying to take care of everybody. While we don't fault her for that, there was at least two other people on staff (I'm guessing manager and host) who helped a bit, but really should have stepped in a lot more because this woman was stretched to the brink. We waited a long time to order, receive our food, etc. We had been tempted to order dessert, but realized that would add another half hour to our evening. The interior is beautiful and despite the slow service, service was quite friendly. Prices are high, but I guess that's to be expected in a beach town like this one. Food, beer, and service were all very good. Prices were high, but it's a resort tourist town. However, the owner assesses a 2.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. For a $5 hamburger joint, I could tolerate this, but not for a place serving a $50 steak. Credit cards are a fixed cost for doing business and should be incorporated in the price of each item. The Good: Actually the great, customer service is some of the best I've ever experienced. We were waited on very attentively and wait staff was very polite and courteous. Prices were decent and there were a good selection of Items from seafood to your typical pub food. Tried the Margherita pizza which was very tasty. Thin crusted and personal pie size, enough to snack between two people. The black bean burger although fresh was ok. It could've used just a hint of seasoning but again was fresh and you can tell it was house made. The Buffalo shrimp was really tasty. Strong Buffalo flavor and nice side shrimp (6). They were cooked really well and every bite was enjoyable. Lastly the wings (ordered Thai Chili) were also great. Although I had to send them back and ask that they get cooked a little more, there was no hesitancy in providing this request and they in fact came out just as expected. The bad: None really. The lava cake I ordered was just a warm cake with some ice cream, not so much lava. Was a bit disappointed but it didn't ruin my experience. This was not our favorite spot. The restaurant was nice inside however at capacity and we were led to an outside , however fully covered area that was heated. It resembled a party space that was set up for overflow. We started with drinks trying the 4 different drink all were good and garnished nicely . The four beer flight was also good. We had the pretzel , calamari , and the cheesesteak dumplings. The sauces for the pretzel we're very savory and good. The cheesesteak dumplings definitely had more of an Addison flavor than expected. The calamari was just OK. The purée it was placed on was the least favorite part. For entrees we had burger , 2 Cobb salads and the blackened chicken sandwich. We made requests for things to be left off.... simple things no tomato on chicken sandwich, no egg on one salad and no blue cheese on the other salad. Each item came out wrong. All were taken back to the kitchen. The blackened chicken sandwich was underwhelming. The blackening seasoning lacked spice and the bottom bun was wet....blah. The salads were just ok fairly standard. The burger same... standard stamp out just because you serve on nice roll doesn't make it better. Fries that came with sandwiches were hot and crispy. We opted out of dessert. Sue our waitress was gracious and accommodating... also the reason for the third star instead of 2. 200 all in for 4 with drinks and gratuity. It's really cool that this place is the only beachfront micro brewery on the East coast -- and that we get to have our wedding here!! We were so excited to try out the food since the brew pub shares a kitchen and caters the events for the ICONA Avalon. Future husband got a blackened chicken sandwich and it was perfectly juicy - honestly the best blackened chicken I've had in awhile. He loved the fries too! I myself had the Crab Louis salad which was just filling enough for a light lunch and really hit the spot with the champagne vinaigrette. We were treated with care and generosity, especially during COVID, even moving tables as our meals got delivered because we were initially positioned in the sweltering sun. The waitress was extremely accommodating and helped us move into the shade. Since this is a brewery, naturally it was in future husband's cards to test out the beer and he enjoyed it. My tequila cocktail was made just as I requested. The interior atmosphere of this restaurant really makes it next level, but even for not having been able to sit inside, the restaurant can be appreciated for the food alone -- and that will make me want to come back (and recommend the spot to wedding guests who have traveled far for our upcoming ceremony). If there's one thing to change, I will say that the staff could have better advised us about the current food/drink plan enforced at the resort due to COVID. You can't order a drink at the beach bar unless you have food in front of you. There should be a way that, if you've eaten at the brewery, you can show a receipt for already having ordered food - that way you can get a post meal beverage at the beach bar afterwards. read more

Stunning interior. In late April, they were still doing a lot of work on exterior, so that is likely to be nice too. Inside ceiling is kegs! Cool textured walls. Lovely modern and dark vibe. Beer signage. Right by beach. One of the most interesting designs for a gastro pub. Could easily be 5 stars for the unique look and the promise of this place. Food is decent as is, but they could notch up a few specialties. Management was great, and really checked up to make sure we were enjoying. A group of six of us went for lunch to celebrate two of us finishing a half marathon. Celebration mood! Shared Brussel Sprouts, Chicken Wings, Artichoke Dip. First two good. Dip just so-so. For main meal, great burgers, little pizza, salads. All very acceptable bar food. Good. Nothing exceptionally creative. This place should think about developing a few signature creative apps and mains. But can you ever beat reliable burgers? Bloody Mary was adequate. I prefer mine kicked up. Mango wheat beer was terrific. So were the IPAs. Forgot something on table and management was very helpful after we called. Thanks for that too. A great edition to the Avalon scene. I have dined at this establishment a couple years ago and was very satisfied with my dining experience. Unfortunately, I cannot claim that Avalon Brew Pub has stayed consistent over those two years after my prior visit. This is a huge shame since the pub is beachside--an ideal location for an upscale dining spot. For the most part, the food faced mixed impressions from my entourage. For one, the calamari appetizer we got was hard as a rock, like it was frozen and then shoved into the microwave for way too much time. We brought up this issue to our waiter, who was steps away from hand-waiving our grievance aside by saying "that's how the chef cooks it." I'm sorry, but NO ONE cooks fried calamari to the extent of inedibility. When we got a new plate of the calamari, it was only slightly better, but remained somewhat hard and bland. This was a bitter disappointment alongside the average chips and guacamole. You can find better chips & guac elsewhere in Avalon/Stone Harbor. The chips were partially stale and the guacamole tasted like plain avocado without lime, cilantro, onion, etc. On a more positive tune, the large Bavarian pretzel and the cheesesteak egg rolls were really good and were swiftly devoured. The entrées faced even more inconsistency. The servers swapped two diners' burgers, who both requested different cooks. In other words, two diners were given burgers that weren't theirs. It seemed like a careless oversight to mess up such an important detail. This, unfortunately, wasn't the worst of it. The fish tacos were flavorless--an absolute shock for a restaurant so close to the shore. The fish was hard and the tacos were simply underwhelming. The fish & chips were average: nothing special but also nothing egregious. We simply expected better. The only well-received entrée was the crispy chicken sandwich. To their credit, this is one of the best crispy chicken sandwiches I have ever had. The chicken was satisfyingly crispy, and the mustard made for a really nice flavor combination. The pickles were very much appreciated, too. The chicken could've perhaps been a bit less dry, but the other ingredients made up for the lack of moisture. The fries were crispy and not greasy at all, which was a nice surprise considering the low status assigned to the appetizers. I suppose I ordered the right item, much unlike my fellow diners. The inconsistency with the food would have been more easily forgivable had it not been for the disastrous service we received. Our waiter was negligent, possibly to a gross extent, on numerous facets of our dinner. We requested that we receive two separate checks--our party was two families, so one check per family--but by the time we started ordering entrées, the waiter told us he had lost track. Check-splitting is an uncomplicated matter for the mass majority of restaurants, so blundering that early was unsettling. This is especially true considering each diner said which family they were part of before even blurting an order. We made it as easy as possible to keep track. The waiter's apology didn't seem sincere whatsoever, to top it all off. On top of this blunder, and the whole "the chef cooks calamari that [rock hard] way" debacle, our waiter didn't take our menus after we ordered our entrées, so they just stayed on our tables in wide-open vision for him to see; yet he didn't notice, even when our entrées were being placed on our table, and as everyone struggled to find space on our table to put all the plates. We were left with no other choice but to stack 10+ menus on the floor - as if we were in one of those stereotypical scenes in movies where someone at a library starts stacking papers on the floor because all the desk space is occupied by more papers. I have never experienced service like that up to this point. To add to our waiter-induced frustration, our waiter was placing his thumb far into the top of everyone's plates, practically touching our food. Again, this level of negligence is bordering at a gross level. Lastly, the waiter took my fries while I was away to the bathroom, and didn't bother asking me if I was done with my meal. I cannot determine who to assign blame for the quality, or lack thereof, of the service.. As for the beer, it was good and everyone liked what they ordered. The only issue was that anyone who ordered beer flights received four beer glasses that were unlabeled. Hence, no one could identify which beer was which. It's hard for me to review this location favorably keeping in mind everything I've noted above. There are several places in the area that have disappointed and have failed to maintain high-performing years. This is one of them. And for such a high price point, not even the chicken sandwich will save this place from feeling like a rip-off. I will probably not be coming back. There was way too much that had gone wrong, so I sincerely hope this establishment sets itself straight soon. read more

For appetizer the giant pretzel is a must get and entrees I went with the fish and chips and their version was among the best I've ever had. With all that being said the reason I'm only giving three stars is, when our meal was finished one of the staff came to clear our plates she was not our waitress but was kind enough to offer to bring us dessert menus. Our waitress came by shortly after and we told her we were waiting on the dessert menus. She told us no need and rattled off the dessert offerings. We went with the carrot cake and it was good, but when our bill came we found that one slice of carrot cake was $14. Had we seen the menu and that price we would not have gotten the dish. Felt like this might have been intentional on the part of the waitress and left a sour taste in our mouth that would lead us not to come back in the future. read more
