Capitol Center For the Arts - Cute auditorium stage at the Chub theatre

The Chubb theater is such a great venue. The walk way in…read moreoff the side walk is very beautiful. The lobby is very very big and they have a bar, a snack stand, and sell pizzas from the restaurant across the street. There's even some tables to sit at to enjoy your concessions and lots of room for a merch table, etc. The bar had a good list of offerings - but I'm not sure I loved the magnet/washer beer draft system. I can't explain it - if you go you'll see. The auditorium itself was intimate, all the seats were good. It's a historic theater, so there is less room than you might be used to - but I didn't feel uncomfortable. I went for the two night magnetic fields event and I had such a great time. I have to give some extra praise. I thought I lose my wallet the first night, I called the box office and the person there very happily assured me they would check the lost and found and call me back. They did indeed call me back and were so kind. I really appreciated it. If you go, be prepared to park in the municipal garage and walk to the venue. Give yourself some extra time to park and walk.

The staff is top notch and very friendly. For those with mobility issues, the theatre is accessible via elevator. Exiting after the performance can take a while as the elevator is fairly small. Pro tip: if members of your party are able to take the stairs, go for that and free up more space in the elevator for those who need it. Bathrooms are located on the main (lobby) level. Accessible stalls are available.

We went to see Gregg Boggis, and friends Mike and Ken. I have a full respect that this is a co-op…read more!! Boggis greeted us at the door of a small but cozy venue...there were a number of people that had BYOB......which is ok with us... Boggis opened the show....with the same act that is seen on YOU TUBE 2011. (as I googled him to ensure that the show was appropriate for my 87 year old mother in law) I personally was disappointed in the three comedians...They seemed to be blind to today's issues....and Ken is in Boston, MA. It appeared to me that the Comics were clearly not prepared to entertain the audience of today. It is my suggestion that the comics do some work prior to their next show.....if they wish to keep the show alive....Mike's parents generator, and Ken's gay uncle ( when Ken is clearly gay) really is not funny... We paid a good amount of money to be entertained.....this missed the mark.

But Felix played it Sooo over the top as to be repulsive. Nothing like the original tv show. Why he chose this, who knows. It didn't help that the whole first act was not funny at all. His acting made it torturous. A couple people walked out before the first act was done and a few more after the close of it. We were tempted but hung in. The second act was a somewhat funny thanks to more characters, but still...we couldn't wait for it to be over. The following is not a comment on "Oscar's" weight but on the impact of it. He is very large and reminded us all of Ralph Kramden, but larger. The 6 of us were worried for him when he had to run back and forth a little bit and was then breathing Very heavy and sweating profusely even after sitting a while. I couldn't stop looking at him as he sat in a chair, to see if he was ok. Every time he crossed the stage his weight was a distraction from the his acting and from the play. Which was sad since he Can act! In the end, not funny enough to sit through.

Finding the playhouse was easy and it's a few miles from downtown Meredith. Parking was really easy considering the show was sold out and the playhouse itself is picturesque and charming. The theatre only holds a couple of hundred so it's easy to get in and out. I would highly recommend coming to see a show. The actors are professionals and each show brings a different cast. The prices were very reasonable and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We will be back!

The facility and property has been well maintained. The new ownership and staff working were very outgoing and kind and helpful. Along w Rocky Horror Picture show and other classics from the golden era of film. Horror movies like Halloween or Friday the 13th would be great as well. It's a great and perfect throwback to yesteryear with the layout and how they do things. The owner said they do trivia and Cuban dance lessons among other fun events there. It's really a great find and I wish more towns had these small local joints where it's intimate and fun and a great experience. The burlesque show was awesome.
