My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing Sweeney Todd on the closing night. Our daughter was the wardrobe supervisor for the playhouse and we booked coming to visit back in May. Finding the playhouse was easy and it's a few miles from downtown Meredith. Parking was really easy considering the show was sold out and the playhouse itself is picturesque and charming. The theatre only holds a couple of hundred so it's easy to get in and out. I would highly recommend coming to see a show. The actors are professionals and each show brings a different cast. The prices were very reasonable and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We will be back! read more

We love the Winnie. But last night was the first awful experience suffering through The Odd Couple. "Oscar" was a very good actor. But Felix played it Sooo over the top as to be repulsive. Nothing like the original tv show. Why he chose this, who knows. It didn't help that the whole first act was not funny at all. His acting made it torturous. A couple people walked out before the first act was done and a few more after the close of it. We were tempted but hung in. The second act was a somewhat funny thanks to more characters, but still...we couldn't wait for it to be over. The following is not a comment on "Oscar's" weight but on the impact of it. He is very large and reminded us all of Ralph Kramden, but larger. The 6 of us were worried for him when he had to run back and forth a little bit and was then breathing Very heavy and sweating profusely even after sitting a while. I couldn't stop looking at him as he sat in a chair, to see if he was ok. Every time he crossed the stage his weight was a distraction from the his acting and from the play. Which was sad since he Can act! In the end, not funny enough to sit through. read more

I've seen several shows in this theater, and I really enjoy going. I like the variety of shows that they perform. The music is usually live, which is a bonus. If you sit further up, the temperature gets quite warm. Down by the stage can be very cold. There are adequate bathrooms, though the lines at intermission tend to be long. You can preorder your intermission snack/beverage to ensure you get everything consumed in time. The greeters are always helpful and friendly. read more

LAKES REGION THEATRE Bought a 2021 season subscription. The initial plays/musicals were at their outside theatre. They were very creative with the sets. Could be warm in the late afternoon sun. Their indoor barn theater is very nice and pristine. The director gives a warm welcomes to everyone at the beginning of each play. Very nice. The acting and musical vocals have been fine, not spectacular. It's a nice place for a date night at a reasonable price. read more

Attended a matinee performance of Sleuth and it was a great play that was well acted. The set design was nicely done and the staging of the performance was effective and dramatic. Quite an enjoyable afternoon of entertainment! The theatre itself is a treasure to have in the Winnipesaukee area allowing for performances for visiting guests and locals. The intimate size of the theatre provides for good views of the stage. The theatre itself is nicely renovated with comfortable seating and modern sound and lighting equipment. Any concessions purchased in the lobby must be enjoyed in the lobby and check out masking requirements in advance. They also had social distancing in place to give a break in seats between you and other parties at the time of this performance. Consider a donation to help cover those empty seats! I truly enjoyed my time at this establishment. I came on July 12th and saw Charlie's Aunt. The actors were phenomenal! They truly bring in great talent. I had never seen this play before and knew nothing about it, but it is now one of my favorites. The place itself is extremely clean and the staff very pleasant. The seating map online makes this place look bigger than it is. You really can't go wrong with any of the seats. We opted for the balcony and were very happy. We did notice that people in the seats below used looked a bit squished so if you're not afraid of heights I recommend the balcony. I also like how they offer you the opportunity to order a bbq dinner before the show. I highly recommend this place if visiting the area for a weekend getaway and looking for something to do at night. read more

My wife and I have attended 2 shows in the last 2 months and absolutely loves them both. Inside or out, both venues are spectacular.

For my 70th birthday, my wife had taken me to see the play version of On Golden Pond at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse in Meredith, NH. This was the first time either of us had been here, and we had just the best time. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. And so much care had gone into the set that the author of the play, Earnest Thompson who actually played the part of Norman, had said that it was one of the finest he had seen in all of his world travels. A spectacular time, and we've already earmarked several upcoming plays to come back here to see. Wonderful campus. It just doesn't get much better than this for a small town community theater experience. read more

The roar of the crowd, bright lights, and most importantly, a story to tell...the small theater with a big heart, has done it again. Last night, I witnessed a wonderful performance at the Winnie Playhouse...Sherlock Holmes, The Final Adventure. The acting was very good, the set creative, and the feeling...intimate. The actor who portrays Sherlock captured that annoying, but amusing and likeable character, dreamed up by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to a tee. Watson is both a character and the narrator, he is funny, and tells the story seamlessly between roles, Irene Adler is beautiful and lives up to her role, testing the great Sherlock Holmes to be more than just a great detective. The actor who played Moriarty made me believe in evil incarnate...the whole production was nicely done...and great fun! As for complaints...they are still working on the theater. The back row of the orchestra seating has little or no legroom. I am sure they will remedy this problem. I would also like to know the names of the actors on the web site...petty complaints to be sure. My recommendation is to get on line and schedule a visit to this wonderful gem in Meredith New Hampshire...why...Elementary my dear Watson! read more

Attended one of their professional shows this week and it was a terrific experience. The staging was fantastic to go with a very talented cast. There is not a bad seat in this state of the art Playhouse creating a very intimate setting in a beautiful Theatre with first rate productions at a very reasonable price. It is located on a lovely campus with plenty of free parking. They also have a nice patio for pre-show light dining and offer up some sandwiches & salads at their lobby cafe. Had the Lobster Roll that night and it was very tasty. The bottom line is that this is a first rate Professional Playhouse which represents one of the best entertainment values around. I took my family to see Cabaret. What a waste of money. The Playbill was such a biased piece of garbage that tried to equate America with Nazi Germany. I don't need to be lectured to by some half you not what director. In addition the production was poor, in that the band played too loud and you could not hear the rather weak voices of the cast. Save your self money and time. If you want a enjoyable evening go to the Interlakes theater ,where they actually entertain rather than preach politics. read more

This theatre never disappoints! I have seen both professional and community plays here The technical aspects of theater - lighting, sound, scenery - are always professional. The theater has comfortable seating and there are no obstructed views. Lobby is spacious and snacks are available at the concession stand. There is ample parking. Winnipesaukee Playhouse is a year round theater in Meredith. Every show I've seen has paired talented actors and directors to tell the audience a great story. read more

The staff is simply amazing; professional, patient educators with a flare for the dramatic. The Winnipesaukee Playhouse Education Department may not have specific "autism" classes, workshops or camps, instead our autistic son is fully integrated into their programs; classes, camps and performances. Here is a sampling of what we've seen in the 4 years of our son's (14) involvement in theater: increased eye contact, better able to identify his own emotions and talk about them with us, increased focus and memory skills, increased social skills and developed friendships. Drama has been such a gift and blessing to our whole family, but especially to our special needs son and we are forever grateful to the staff (past and present) of The Winnipesaukee Playhouse for their instruction, patience, and encouragement. Our son has never been treated as "less than" for his disabilities, instead, he's been given the tools to shine! I don't have enough good things to say about theater education and it's benefits for all children, especially those who struggle with social anxiety and alexithymia (inability to identify and describe emotions). This season was the first time my family and I attended any productions at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse. Their musical, High Society, from earlier this season was outstanding-- the music was terrific, the players were talented, and the set pieces were lovely. It was very professional and beautifully done. We expected that other professional productions at this venue would be of comparable quality, so we bought tickets to another show here. The Hound of the Baskervilles was truly terrible, though. There were only a handful of actors, each playing multiple parts. It got confusing after awhile, figuring out who each player was supposed to be in each scene. We left after the first half because it was rather unbearable. We would definitely give this venue another chance, as one of the two productions we saw there was truly exemplary; however, I hope that in the future, productions billed as 'professional' won't be as ramshackle as The Hound of the Baskervilles was. Our second experience was a waste of money and time. read more
